Bluetooth crackling - Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Questions & Answers

Every device I've tried with my note 10 has had awful bluetooth crackle unless I really turn down the volume. For some devices (car etc) this is fine, but for something like headphones they become unusable, either being too quiet or sounding awful.
Anyone run into this problem, or have a fix for it? I'm going to try factory resetting the phone and if that doesn't work I will get rid of it and buy something else.

I use my Mi Note 10 with Global rom with my Mondeo mk4 (FL). Full volume, zero crackle/issues.
Check Developer Options, as far as I know you can specify like codecs and whatnot. You might have to set that on your car.

Figured it out. The crackle for me happens when I'm connected to a weak 2.4GHz WiFi access point. Connecting to a 5GHz WiFi or a strong 2.4GHz signal solves the problem completely
It's co channel interference between WiFi and Bluetooth. Hopefully Xiaomi can make some improvements in updates (changing modulation, etc)

[TIP] Improve Audio Quality of Calls or Music Over Bluetooth on the Captivate

I have been having intermittent issues with Bluetooth audio cutting out on my Captivate while I am on a phone call over Bluetooth. I believe the problem stems from Samsung's inability to do anything right and their implementation of Bluetooth 3.0. A new feature of Bluetooth 3.0 is the ability for a Bluetooth connection to transfer data over Wifi if both Bluetooth devices support 3.0 and have compatible Wifi chips. Samsung implemented this poorly, not a real surprise, and now Wifi is causing the Bluetooth data transfers to be spotty causing streaming data, voice calls or audio streaming, to to be adversely affected.
I was able to finally narrow down the problem. I received a phone call yesterday on my cell phone and I picked up the call on my Bluetooth enabled home phone. The call sounded horrible, noise and the other caller was cutting out, but not enough that I couldn't understand the other person, so I continued the call. The person on the other end did not seem to have any idea that the call sounded so badly, so it seemed to be something limited to my end. During the call, I went over to my Captivate and turned off Wifi. Instantly, the call cleared up and the quality was good to excellent.
I use Wifi all of the time especially at home, so I wasn't going to be turning off Wifi all of the time, so I needed a workaround. Using an App called Setting Profiles, I am able to have Wifi automatically turn off anytime I am on a call and then when the call is completed it turns Wifi back on. What's even better is that the app will note the state of Wifi before a call, so if Wifi is already off before a call, it will not turn Wifi on when the call is ended. The Tasker app will allow you to do the same thing, so if you already have Tasker you won't need Setting Profiles.
This tip will probably only work on the Samsung Galaxy S line because these phones use Bluetooth 3.0, where most Android phones use 2.1 or earlier and do not support Bluetooth file transfers over Wifi. I have only experienced it on the Captivate so I can't say if it will work for any other Galaxy S phone.
Since both wi-fi and BT uses the same 2.4Ghz frequency, interference maybe anticipated although new BT hardwares are pretty good at reduce such interferences.
Did you try change your wi-fi router frequency/channel so that it won't interfere with your BT? Try that so that you may not need to turn off wi-fi on the phone at all.
I have had the issue occur in my car while not near any Wifi router. Also, the router was still on when the call quality improved. It's not like the radio waves from the router and three other Wifi devices in my house disappeared around my phone just because I turned off the Wifi on my phone.

Thanks for the tip

WiFi performance while using Bluetooth

Issue on my HOX. 1.85, rooted. When streaming via BT to and A2DP speaker or headphones, the WiFi becomes unmanageably slow. Meaning I sometimes can't even get enough wifi speed to stream a 192k file. If I go to speedtest while playing music through BT I get less than 500kbps. Turn the BT off, and bam ~20-30mbps. This is all when sitting within 10 feet of my router.
I know that BT and wifi conflict due to same frequency, etc....but is there any setting hiding anywhere in a DB or something that can help?
I had the same issue with my HTC Titan (Windows Phone 7) but I never found a solution for it (except to disable the bluetooth when I needed good wireless but that is not really a solution).
At least I can confirm the issue on the HOX. I tried making a phone call using my bluetooth headset and then while on the phone ran a speed test over the wireless. It jumped around (very erratically) under 100k then failed due to a communication issue. Immediately disabled the bluetooth on the HOX and then ran the same speed test and I got 7277kbps down and 5229kbps up on the phone using wireless and the speed was much smoother.
After running the test multiple times, the best that I got with the bluetooth enabled and in use was 374kbps down and 819kbps up...and again the speeds are very up and down with the bluetooth enabled and in use.
If I find any kind of solution I'll post back here.
Bt and WiFi run on the same2.4 GHz band. Typically, Bt chip set has circuit too detect WiFi and use a frequency less interference with WiFi. Sounds like this is not the case with the bt 4.0 chip inside HOX. Try change the WiFi channel on your router to see if it helps.

Good idea! My router was on channel 7 and I changed it to channel 1. My test results are much better...2000+kbps down and 3000+kbps up - but still not very smooth (much up and down and stuttering). My results are still much higher with the bluetooth off but changing the wifi channel made a difference for me. Thanks again.

Is the V10 also experiencing bluetooth problems?

Is anyone else here having a problem where bluetooth switches to loudspeaker when playing music?
I want to find out if this a general EMUI 8 Android 8 problem or if it is specific to the Mate 10/Pro.
For more details, here is the original issue thread for the Mate 10 Pro:

No Problems,Bluetooth works with headphones as long as you hear
Yes, there is such problem.
Wifi and connectivity speed drops even when Bluetooth module is on, without any devices connected, and becomes hardly usable.
Thus if you intend to use any Bluetooth devices together with WiFi, this is hardly a device for you. This is especially the case if you intend to use any of the smart watches of fitness trackers, that become hardly usable due to the repeated disconnections.
I don't know if this is a EMUI related problem, or not (installing Lineage may void my warranty, and i intend to return the phone), but the problem is quite persistent.

I was looking for some answers to my problem and I think this could be related... As you mentioned, when I have bluetooth connected to my earphones, the wifi connection speed drops a lot. It depends on the router though... I have a Virgin SuperHub 2 (UK) and it drops to 4-10 Mbit/s or so... I have done some test at work with a Netgear 6800 and it something like:
No bluetooth: 90 Mbit/s down / 90 Mbit/s up
Bluetooth connected to earphones but not playing anything: 67 Mbit/s / 90 Mbit/s
Bluetooth connected and reproducing music: 27 Mbit/s / 80 Mbit/s
Just checking the speed tests on my phone with the superHub 2 at home, it drops to 7 Mbit/s if it's connected to bluetooth and at around 100 Mbit/s if it's not...
Is there any software fix for this problem or is it a hardware problem?
Thanks!
I've ended up returning the phone, as I use a pebble watch and a fitbit m the time, and a headset in the gym, and then WiFi became intolerable.
I really liked this phone, but after 10 days of looking for a solution I've ended up returning it.
bluetooth phone calls not working
The problem is bluetooth audio for phone calls isnt working, i tested this
in 3-4 vehicles as initially thought this could be problem in the vehicle.
However i noticed the same issue in all vehicles. So this is definitely not
a vehicle issue. the phone audio on calls isnt routed via the vehicles (pairing is fine) -
however if play a song through a music player on phone, it works fine.
i have tried restarting phone several times and also deleted all pairing
and re-pairing the devices, i deleted the bluetooth data/cache as well but
no success..
Anybody have this issue on the honor view 10 ?

I further tried resetting the network settings, still same problem, hi care diagnostics tell me bluetooth is fine..strange!
I am on B160 and no Problems with Bluetooth or Wifi at same time enabled.I test on 2 Vehicles calls works and play Music with the View 10.I test with Youtube over Wifi with Bose Headset over Bluetooth, all working without any Problem!
Hm, I use BLK-L09 and I didn't notice either of those problems. Bluetooth calls work beautifully with my car's built-in bluetooth thingie and I can use WiFi with no problems while using my Mi Band 3. I use Carbon ROM though
I'm on a BKL-L04. I have not experienced any issue at all with bluetooth. I have an LG Urbane connected all the time. I stream music in home and in my vehicle and bluetooth has never caused me any issue - even with wifi on (and wifi does not slow, at least to my perception). Times when I've used my bluetooth headset, I still haven't had any bluetooth issues. (I came from, and still own, an Honor 8. I could barely leave the room with my headset connected to the Honor 8 before the signal would start dropping. No such problem with the View10. In fact, I have much more range in my house on my headset on the View10 than I did on the 8). My View10 is completely stock, no root.

Hi my problem with bluetooth started all of the sudden , it was working fine all the while - it isnt anything to do with using with wifi.
The problem simply put is bluetooth pairing and song streaming works fine, but through bluetooth phone calls audio isnt working - very strange!

Bluetooth audio choppy on wifi connection

Guys I have a Gionee A1 phone working flawlessly as my secondary phone.
Phone isn't rooted.
Since few months it is acting weird.
When I play Youtube or any online videos on phone connected to a Wifi and audio connected to a BT speaker or BT earphones, the voice is very choppy, skipping, stuttering and disturbing.
Earlier it used to work simply great.
The same earphones and BT speaker works flawlessly on my other phones.
But this doesn't happen when I do the above things on Mobile data connection.
I tried various tricks and solutions as below but none worked...
Factory reset
I upgraded the firmware and also downgraded but the issue still remains.
In Battery optimization do not optimize BT ad YT.
Clear data for both BT and YT and Wifi.
Battery saver mode is disabled.
Browser upgrade/ YT app upgrade etc.
Apart from this, there are no other issues with the phone at all. even calls etc work fine on BT earphones. The camera, battery wifi etc all wok flawlessly.
Is there any conflict arising between BT and Wifi connection within the phone?
I dont have any other wireless devices in my house at all.
Kindly help to resolve this minor looking big issue..
I think there is not much you can do.
From my experience with Bluetooth I can say it always failed for some reason. Like when bt mouse becomes unresponsive/skips when laptop is under load, or bt speakers (in home or in car) having choppy playback for no apparent reason.
The bt connection is so sensitive and it can be disturbed by other radio operated devices.
What you can try is using vlc player for music playback when connected to bt speakers.
I found this most useful, as it uses buffer in best way to prevent skipping/choppy playback.
Second idea is to unpair/pair your device and it should work fine, for some time at least...
Third thing you could experiment on is in Android settings, go to Developer options and change settings in the bt section (bt codec, bt sample rate, channel mode) to see if there are any improvements.

Question BT audio trouble?

Anyone else finding that the Bluetooth audio can be a bit hit and miss, the audio has just fully cut out on me, but it displays as if it's still connected and playing via the headphones. I had no audio through either headphones, switching BT off and on, and rebooting headsets didn't solve it. Rebooting the phone brought the audio back, phew!
Out of the two headsets I have, My cheap Sony WI-C310's seem to work better, Using my jabra halo smart headset, it doesn't seem to connect media audio if it's also allowed to handle calls. I have to toggle calls off and just media to use Spotify with the headset (this could just be that headset being weird, think it got discontinued for not being great)
Anyone else having BT audio issues?
I've got a Huawei smart band 6 connected at the same time if that's a factor, it wasn't a problem on my original Nord though.
I have been facing the same issue for a while now, it's pretty random. There are times where it works perfectly and other times it either doesn't connect at all, or has a very weird delay, where it's fine in the beginning of say a video and gets a delay mid way through it. There are times where it only connects to one earphone, just issues all around. Also am using the oneplus buds z2, so honestly would expect it to work flawlessly with a oneplus device. The earphones work fine with other devices.
I've been getting random drop outs.
Both with connectivity with my car infotainment system and my cycle computer.
When I had my OP7Pro, never experienced anything of the sort when connected to these two same devices.
I've also tried enabling Bluetooth Gabeldorsche in the developer settings, and that didn't make a difference.
Will try changing the Bluetooth AVRCP version to see if that improves anything (currently set to the default of 1.5).
Has anyone else played with those settings and tested the impact?
Tested with 3-4 Bluetooth devices and no drop outs.
I notice that when I put the device in aereo mode the Bluetooth remain active, but in the latest days this problem doesn't happen anymore, maybe was a bug of the first fw, and after last update they have fixed?
