Hello, hopefully this easy an easy question but I just rooted and installed CM6 last night, loving Chrome to Phone and some of the other froyo goodness. Just not feeling the off white status bar/ notifications area. Is there a simple way to change this, not really interested in a full theme with icons and all that if it isnt necessary.
Thanks
If you just want a solid black background, go to Settings>CyanogenMod settings>User Interface>Notifications colors and scroll down to "Custom notification bar". From there you can choose any color you want. It may require a reboot to take effect.
Exactly what I was needing, thank you
Haven't used cyanogen since I had my g1, second android phone since then lol

I've tried this, set it for black and rebooted, but the status bar is still white. The Bar Color setting shows a solid black circle in the middle with a hex value of #ff00000, but the status bar is still black characters on a white bar. Am I doing this wrong?
Black is
#000000
White is
#ffffff
what you posted above is nothing.... but you might have typed a few too many 0 on it... if so then ff0000 is red.
Black bar and Sense Icons
If you are interested and are running CM6 test 8. and have s-off. Here is a metamorph I made today for the sense status bar and icons, and the sense app icons.

Sorry for the necropost, but would this work on a Hero running CM6?

After you get hte color you want you have to press the cirle in the center, if you hit back it wont apply. but it will remember hte selection you made. I had that same problem

most unlikely because the frameworks could be diff. hit me up.
I've had the phone for one day and it's a sexy phone. However I was encountering an annoyance with the navigation bar (the bottom strip with the home button and back button.) There is an option to change the navigation bar background color (settings > display > navigation bar > background color) but the issue is that it only applies when the keyboard is not present. I set my color to black, but everytime I would send a text or type anything the bottom navigation bar would switch to default white. I like my dark theme and this was a YUGE issue for me, but some people may enjoy the contrast or be fine with white.
The fix I found is a program called "NavBar Apps"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.damianpiwowarski.navbarapps
It works without root (which is not yet possible) and allows a user to set a static color for the navigation bar, plus other options like battery or dynamic nav bar color from current application. I don't use these features as I enjoy my solid black, but they are interesting to try.
In my opinion static color for the nav bar is the best as I strongly dislike the changing of solid colors between open and closed keyboard.
Hopefully this is helpful, peace

This was great. Thank for sharing. ?
Great! Thanks! Anything we can do about notifications background being white even if I have a black theme?

Make an exception in your app killers
Thank you so much! I realized, however, that the app does need to be running in the background for the color fix to work. Which is fine as long as my nav bar matches my black keyboard
Awesome, it works perfectly!
That's all well and good, but a reminder: static images burn in on AMOLED screens. Perhaps Sammy set it to change as a preventative measure.
I just got the s8+ and I am wondering if there is a way to make the keyboard larger on the screen. Thanks!

This isn't quite the place to post your question.
However
While the Samsung Keyboard is open, press the key that looks like a gear, and select "Keyboard size and layout."
Make sure to always thoroughly check app settings!

I'm using SwiftKey. Wonderful app.
Hi, I got my s8+ a couple of days ago and I am using a black theme from Samsung which indeed doesn't theme the nav bar when the keyboard is open.
I am afraid to root it right away and if this works then I am all for it.
Question: themes from the Samsung store only change the color of the built-in apps but not the 3rd party apps like whatsapp.
Even the color of the notifications are still white. Any ideas?

Then just go for black navigation bar. No burn in with shut down pixels.

I was thinking more of the navigation buttons themselves. The image of the keys inverts when the bar is white.

There are actually many people reporting burn in on the navigation buttons, sadly. I was looking for a way to keep the bar fully functional but invisible. Do you guys know anyway to do it? Thanks

I use All In One Gestures to activate immersive mode. Unfortunately the keyboard (and a few other random things) don't work while in immersive mode, so I set an edge gesture at the bottom of the screen to deactivate it if I need to use the keyboard.
I also set navigation to edge gestures so I don't need to exit immersive mode often.

I think all of this is a lot o hassle. Mine's coming today and I'll try some immersive mode options, but will keep looking for the invisible icons idea as this would change absolutely nothing on my daily use of the device.

I know it's the gradient fading in of the notification bar, and it's just on the home screen...is there anyway to disable it?
Change your theme or wallpaper. Problem solved.

Obviously, but I would like to keep a dark wallpaper and stock theme. That's why I'm asking.
I've had the same issue! It's horrible as the gradient isn't even that smooth.
I tried Nova Launcher and it still did it. Changing theme didn't seem to fix it.
The fact that it goes away on every other screen makes me think it should be able to be disabled...maybe with package disabler, but I don't want to blindly disable stuff and mess something up.
I've only found a few similar things online for this, but it seems Samsung dump some stupid fade effect on the notification bar. I wish I could turn it off. Or force a proper transparent bar on the home screen

It happened to me also. I am using nova launcher. Apply the theme again, than apply the wallpaper and choose to apply on both scrern and lockscreen. Then you can choose whatever you want for the lockscreen again.
I have just updated the firmware on the SM-G955F and used the hide option for the Nav bar.
I now have a burn in for the Nav bar. Definitely obvious on any whitish background.
Anyone with the same issue?
Nope.

You dont have burn in on the nav bar, you have burn in on the rest of the screen. the nav bar is the non burnt bit, assuming your nav bar was black of course.
Get AMOLED Burn-In Fixer from the play store. I occasionally runnitnon my Pixel XL to reduce/eliminate burn in. Works really well. I turn my brightness up all the way, and either set the screen timeout to 30 minutes, or use developer options to keep the screen on while charging, then I just run the app overnight while I'm asleep. Screen down so it doesn't light up my room.
I'm sure it will work on the S8+ as well.

I don't know where you got that information, but that is not correct.
I took my phone to a Service Center and they replaced the screen on account of burn in.

That's impossible. The navbar buttons more around over time slightly so there isn't any burn in. If burn in was an issue then your status bar would be F'd.

Do you already have it back and is your screen better overall? No red tint anymore when tilted?
when in doubt throw it out, meaning warranty exchange or refund. end the pain before it continues

no option to hide unless you got adb and fastboot command lines to do so. here in the usa no one has that update yet. im using abd and fastboot PC app to use commands. ive had bar hidden for 48 days.

Hi,
Can someone please help me permanently blackened the status bar around the notch on LG - LMG710AWM (Canadian). It is not rooted and I just hate the dreaded notch so much, I will send the phone back if I can not turn that s*** off. natcho notch or whatever did not work. :-| :crying:
...and just to clarify, I am not trying to be racist or discriminatory against status bar, black or any other colors or things...heck, I will be fine if I can get it all white all the time. I just can't stand the status bar changing itself with the apps background colors. That is absolutely the worst UI oversight if it is not manageable by the users in Android.
