bricked: a confession, - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

1) stuck in bootloader
2) changed to B slot thru terminal . following a thread I guess
3) got into recovery (.IMG) but couldn't flash zip
4) seen "edl" and thought, what's that? So I clicked it
5) screen now blank
6) buttons have no response
7) I've owned the phone for 2 days (new)
Am I out a lot of $ or is there a hope for me

does your computer detect the phone at all when you plug it in? I know it isn't responsive, but try powering it on when you plug it in via USB and see if your PC detects anything.

Seems like you stuck at edl mode. Try holding vol down (or up) + power buttons for at least 30 seconds. Than you can try flashing stock rom from fastboot mode.

Everytine I plug it in (windows8: test mode) the PC makes a sound but can't seem t find the device in the device manager.
Msmdownload tool finds nothing

Hold volume up + power button together for 10 to 30 seconds. Then release. Wait a few seconds. Now press and hold power button until it vibrates to see if it boots

OnePlus 7pro bought directly from OnePlus
( i think its GM1915)
windows 10 pc
device manager lists phone as Kedacom USB Device ---> Android Bootloader Interface
i downloaded "10.0.3-GLOBAL-OnePlus7ProOxygen_21.O.23_OTA_023_all_1912032357_76b445-FASTBOOT"
ran the "flash-all" batch file
when it's done, phone reboots into "Qualcomm: CrashDump"
I can press the up+down volume buttons w/ the power button and get back to Fastboot mode
I can also get into the Chinese mode.. with that, i click ENGLISH then WIPE EVERYTHING
still no luck.... truly is an interesting BRICK

Well, you can try flashing using "TOOL ALL IN ONE".

Did you try the MSMtool?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/how-to/msm-tool-guac-t3934691/amp/

I also bricked mine a couple days ago , restored it by using MNSTOOL , you can find threads or youtube videos how to use it , it will finish it in around 5 minutes and also it will lock the bootloader.

so many times i've tried the msmdownload tool
my device is not recognized... so i figure it's the driver
i followed the instructions.. it says with phone off ,hold the vol up+down for 5 secs then plug in to usb on pc
the drivers should auto download into the pc
it did.. i see in Device Manager under PORTS the qualcomm driver appear when phone is plugged in
but phone is in Qualcomm CrashDump mode
when i reboot to FASTBOOT MODE (by holding volume up+down and power button) the Device Manager
recognizes the phone as Kedacom USB Device/Android Bootloader Interface
(not Qualcomm)
and of course MSMDownload tool does not recognize phone... i'll keep trying

I will tell you the full guide.
1. Extract msm(whatever).zip
2. Turn off your phone
3. Open msm.exe (green icon) as admin
5. Hold vol+ and vol- for 30 (no less)
5. Connect usb while holding both volume buttons and release after connecting the usb
6. As soon as you connect the usb hit start.

i figure it's the driver.. windows keeps installing a specific driver for the phone.
but i think it's the wrong driver
(doesnt say QUALCOMM in the device manager)
so now i have to force install the driver
by right clicking on the phone in the device manager and working thru the menu to get to 'HAVE DISK'
so i have to be in windows as an admin
https://www.technipages.com/windows-administrator-account-login-screen
then after downloading the Qualcomm driver in a .cab file as admin i can right click and choose install .cab file
***AAAAAND nope can't right click to have "install" appear in the menu
FUDGE FUDGE FUDGE
all because windows says the driver is already installed... and has a kaed???? driver instead of the Qualcomm
can my life with this phone be any more difficult??

You can just use the drivers which are provided in the msm archive.

tried manually install a .cab with a terminal command as admin
but i get error "An error occurred trying to open - c:\usb.cab Error: 0x80070003
maybe i have to rename it KB(+number).cab in order for it to work (instead of usb.cab)
NOPE THAT DIDNT WORK

Try a different USB cable. With both volume buttons held when you plug in the phone with battery out system should recognize it and ask to install drivers. Post again if that does not happen.

to get into download mode yes you must unplug all connected media to the P-999, this includes your microSD and battery, wait 5 - 10 seconds before plugging in the power cord to the computer to ensure no electrical currents are running through the device, hold Vol +/- and plug in the device, WinXP should have a pop-up in the taskbar at this point stating that it's recognized as APX device, once it says that you've entered download mode. The screen should remain to look like it's still off during this process.
If WinXP isn't recognizing the device as APX, then double check to make sure you have extracted the ZIP's respectively, should be NvFlash, and APX. If you've already done that, then go into device manager. Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Device Manager.
Within the Device Manager you will notice APX with a yellow question mark next to it, double click on APX in Device Manager and re-install the driver. AFTER you have disconnected your device, then try and enter download mode again.

When you're installing the APX driver, if it comes up with an error saying something similiar to "INF is not digitally signed", then you have to disable windows security features in order to install the software.

I had that exact problem and on windows 8 it was a pain to do. It had to be done from the reboot screen and the first time I did it my computer's screen went black and would not turn on after rebooting for a few hours. Still have no idea why it did that lol. Looks like he's running an earlier version of windows which is better for everything we do here anyway lol

[Q] Bricked : Flashing sbl1

I was trying to flash BlissPop. It didn't flash. So, I decided to flash fastboot image of CM11s 44.
I issued this command :
Code:
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash sbl1 sbl1.mbn
fastboot reboot-bootloader
The flash sbl1 command gave an error.
I rebooted bootloader. The phone turned off, but it never turned on.
I don't know how could it brick my phone, because I've done it a few times without any error.
My battery was on 65% when I was doing all this. So, I don't suspect battery has died.
But, I'm charging the phone anyway. There is no lead, but the power bank shows that battery is taking charge.
When I connect the phone to PC, it shows no signs of any device connected. Device manager doesn't show any thing/any refresh.
I've tried to push the power button for about a minute for 5 times, as 1+1 site says.
I've tried vol up + power and vol down + power buttons. It doesn't boot it.
I've no access to fastboot, recovery, OS, anything.
Please, suggest me solutions.
Did you flash the firmware updates before you flashed bliss? There is a toolkit out there, linked in bliss thread, on how to unbrick. I'll see if I can't find it.

Thanks. I looked at it.
But, as you said I can't do anything till the phone turns on even once.
BTW, I highly suspect battery drain, because I was in TWRP for long to take backup, flashing MultiROM, etc. TWRP is known to not allow charging, as reported by some people.
Can you tell me whether flashing sbl1 could have bricked it or not? It didn't fail to flash in past and it never caused problem.
I had flashed CM12 firmware update before flashing BlissPop. Could reflashing CM11s fastboot image over it cause problem. I think it should not, because fastboot image replace all things. What's your opinion?
Had the same problem. Try first leave it charging for 12 hours after that plug it in. Then get into fastboot this is not easy. Just hold vol up and power together for atv least 5 Sec.

I guess its possible. But I would do what falastine said. Charge it for some time. With a soft brick it may not show anything on the screen but could actually be on. So be patient trying to get the toolkit to find the phone. I've heard in another thread someone's phone did in fact connect but nothing was on the screen

any progress on this? i think the exact same thing happened to me. was trying to flash back to CM11s using fastboot, but it died. now i dont get anything at all. no response to the chrager, or the computer or anything.
ive tried holding the power button, holding the vol keys with the pwr button, but no avail.
let me know if you figured it out!

I left the phone in charge for 24 hours using original charger and wire.
Tried long presses for multiple times - nothing happens.
Tried vol up/ vol down combinations with power button for long nothing happens.
I am now waiting for 12 hours and then will plug it again, as some thread said.
In between I'm trying to download a tool from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/tool-oneplusrecovery-tool-v1-0-restore-t2991851

So this is how i did it.
1. install the drivers from OPO (located in the .zip file from this tool https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/t...ks-etc.237827/ )
2. Open your device manager (Start - right click on computer - properties - devices manager)
3. Press on power + vol up for like 10 sec until you see a device showing up (called QHSUSB_BULK)
4. Download the qualcomdriver ( https://www.dropbox.com/s/vgujdut93m341qm/Qualcomm 2012.rar?dl=0 ). Right click on this devices and click on "Update Driver Software" -> "Browse my computer for driver software" -> locate the Qualcomm 2012\fre\Windows7 8 or vista folder depending on your setup. Update the driver.
5. Now the OPO tool should recognize your device. I turn off all my network connections so the usb device can't find other drivers. (in case windows overwrite the driver).

The hard part is that I could not get the phone detected by PC as anything.
I followed the same key combination which you mentioned. It doesn't help.
Can you tell me if battery is totally depleted, will it be possible for phone to be detected?
I've tried to charge my phone with various chargers and power banks. The battery stays cold, the charger stays cold, power bank blinks and get depleted, but phone is not vibrating even on long press.
I've tried on virtual PC, a XP machine. And on other real XP PC.
Thanks for your help.

Even if your battery is depleted it should get detected in your machine when u press volume up and power while its connected to your pc.hold it for a minute this combination should show something also keep your pc volume up to hear any port connect discconect sounds. If this doesnt happen then your hardware is dead no other option but try to give it to opo for service.
So, nothing ever comes on the screen? Does the phone vibrate if you hold the power button for 20 seconds? If so, this might be of help, if it sounds like it's bricked: http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/help/guide-unbrick-oneplus-one-t3013732

I think the steps should be clear. It's always the same since OnePlus 3/T. There is only one little different thing.

Hi friend, what is that different thing you say? Some is the first time we have a OnePlus, so we do not know.
Another question I have is that my OnePlus 7 works fine, but I wanted to see if this program recognizes me my OnePlus in case I ever need it, how can I enter the necessary mode to be detected by this program?
I press volume up and volume down and then I connect the cable, at that moment the program makes me "connected" (see attached image, left side), but after a few seconds it appears that "disconnected" and the phone restarts and OSS starts .
When I connect it, the images "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM3) appear in the device manager.
I do not understand why my mobile when I connect it by pressing the volume buttons and without touching anything of the program it appears that connected and after a few seconds it disconnects itself and OOS restarts.
Regards, and thank you very much.

The different part is you need to press volume up and volume down. With the older phones there was only one button. Don't remember volume up or down.
Not sure why your phone disconnecting automatically.

Hi friend, could you try if the same thing happens to you?
Made the mistake of locking my bootloader directly and bricked the hell out of my standard 7. I kept getting "Your device is corrupt and it can't be trusted". No Recovery accessible, only bootloader.
Followed the steps here and everything is back to normal now!

Hello friend, could you help me to know why when I connect my device appears as connected and after 10 seconds it automatically restarts the OOS operating system? My phone works well, it's just a test to know if one day I have a brick to know that this program works in my case.
I would need (now that your device works, like mine) to start in a way that the program detects and looks "connected", then wait a moment and without pressing any button on the program or phone to see if it restarts alone. I am thinking that if the phone works well, the program when connected only starts the system automatically.
Read some messages above in case I have not explained myself well.
Could someone who has a good phone confirm this? Can the program attempt to automatically restart the device if the "Start" button of MsmDownloadTool is not pressed within 10 seconds?
Thanks greetings.

Yep, same here. Maybe it's because device isn't bricked. I'm not sure about that. Never tried MSMTool when my device wasn't bricked.

hello, thanks for trying it, then that happens, if it is not locked it restarts, or maybe the EDL mode restarts for security if you don't press Start on the Msm tool.
---------- Post added at 12:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:10 PM ----------
Indeed we have already resolved the doubt about why EDL mode is disconnected after 10 seconds. It is a security system, you have 10 seconds to press Start. here another partner who has tried it and that happened to him, until he hit start and flashed everything well.

I see that you sent a private message to me also and mentioned that you got into the Bootloader. That is not what you need.
First of all, you will need to install the qualcom drivers from here: https://www.androidjungles.com/qualcomm-hs-usb-qdloader-9008-driver-64-bit-windows/
Afterwards, you will need to hold both volume buttons, and after a few seconds connect your phone to the computer via cable (while still holding the volume buttons).
The phone will be detected as a Qualcom device and you cand start following the tutorial that was provided earlier.

Hello friend, I already managed to enter the EDL mode correctly, the doubt is that when I connected it after 10 seconds, the phone disconnected and relapsed. That's why I said that if I could test now that your phone works, it also automatically restarts without touching any Msm program button once connected in EDL mode.
Something with EDL mode in OP7 is currently wrong.
As the predecessors wrote, after connecting, it is interrupted after a few seconds and the phone reboots.
I also have OP3, OP6 in them after the EDL mode is switched on the connection is maintained all the time.

That's what @Thelargeportion wrote at OP7Pro thread:
"Yes, it did on mine. I've just used this tool to recover from root to stock.
Noted that if the program isn't started within 10 seconds, the phone rebooted automatically, I'm guessing as some sort of security lock. Restarted in EDL, connected to the MSMDownloadtool and executed the program as soon as it was connected and it flashed absolutely fine.
Note that after the phone is restarted after a successful flash, it takes about 1-2 minutes to boot again having stuck on the OnePlus boot logo."
Could be true. But nevermind... It works and that's important.
Yes, it is the most important thing that it flashes the system image.
However, it does not maintain a permanent session in EDL as
in previous OnePlus models, and that may be worrying.

Hello friend, yes, that happens to all of us, it is not an isolated case, but if once you enter EDL mode and connect the phone to the PC and it appears "connected", you press start and everything works. You must press start in 10 seconds since entering EDL mode, once you press start, it no longer restarts and blinks correctly.
This of the 10 seconds occurs in all OnePlus 7 series (normal and PRO).
Comment where I ask about 10 seconds and colleagues confirm that they used the tool: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79997414&postcount=54

Pixel 2 brick after Uninstall Magisk

Hello,
My Pixel 2 was unlocked bootloader and Rooted.
I went to Magisk app then pressed Uninstall All, then my phone rebooted and brick at boot (Screenshot "No command").
I tried to flash back to stock rom but computer cannot reconize the phone. (I supposed USB debugging was not turned on yet).
Please advise how I can make my Pixel 2 back to work?
Many thanks in advance.

Download and extract the latest version of Platform Tools to a folder, then run all ADB and fastboot commands in command prompt or powershell within that folder. Don't rely on Windows drivers for ADB.

Forget about ADB, you need Fastboot access. While in the bootloader interface, connect your phone, look for it in the Device Manager and change its driver to Android Bootloader Interface, or something of the sort. Next try "fastboot devices" on the command line, see if it detects your device.
I brought my phone to repair shop and they detected that the hard disk was dead.
Just bought another Pixel 2 to have more awesome photos
You have no fastboot I guess.
Boot into fastboot, plug in the usb cable and press and hold the volume down button for like 15 seconds, and then it will be recognized by the PC. You can flash back the stock rom after that.
Hey I had the same problem. Just stuck in bootloader mode. In my case, the boot slot changed itself from b to a (access denied, same as your problem). What I did:
1. I boot my phone, then it'll be in bootloader mode (same as the first picture when it says 'operation denied')
2. I kept pressing the power button, then my phone boot into bootloader again (bootloop). I kept holding my power button until my phone boot into right boot slot. (It took me 10 bootloop to boot into right boot slot, I just keep holding my power button when in the bootloader mode)
You can add my telegram : (@)Djkuns if you're confused. Hope I can help! Goodluck!

(Solved) Oneplus 8T Qualcomm logo blinking

Hi!
I have tried to install a custom rom, but there was an error. When I tried to boot back to bootloader mode, the qualcomm logo started blinking and the device is vibrating.
Tried to connect to pc, but I don't see any device in COM Ports in the device manager, also MSM tools says waiting for the device.
If I connect the cable while I am pressing the both volume button, I hear the sound from the pc that something is connected, but after a few seconds the device disconnects.
Can you help me?
Got the same problem installing a wrong firmware, probably. I'm hoping for someone knowing how to solve...
That was easy. Unfortunately I had to format the phone entirely (MSMTool), but it's back with the living.
Install Qualcomm EDL drivers
Download an MSMTool release for OnePlus 8T
Enter in EDL Mode. With the phone connected to a computer running Windows, press volUp + volDown right when you see the Snapdragon logo. The phone will stay with screen off
Follow the usual flashing procedure with MSMTool
Thanks, I just had to install the Qualcomm drivers exe file. After that it appeared in device manager.
