How to get Moto 8 plus to format sd card as internal memory? As I could with my moto 7.
Noted here, This phone doesn't allow the SD card to be formatted to internal storage, only portable storage, which means you can't store apps on it. Apps can only be stored on the phone's internal memory. Confirmed by Motorola.

So I managed to get a ROM going on my tab that came today, and all is pretty good so far. One question tho; I went to my settings --> SD card usage or whatever its called and my internal memory is showing 1.79GB total space.
My SD card is 16GB and that's showing up fine as 14 or whatever FREE, since I partitioned at 2048/0.
I don't get why the internal storage is 1.79. Shoudn't it be 16GB or whatever since that's how much this tablet has? I'm confused.
Thanks!
I may be wrong on this (Developers, please correct me if I am wrong) but I think the 2GB is reserved for the Android system and the remaining space is what you can use for apps, etc.

Click to collapse
if thats the case, why won't it show the remaining 14G or whatever hmmm
The 16gig is divided as 2gig for apps and 14gig for storage (/sdcard). After format and overhead you get what you see.

So how do i mount my internal? Im only able to mount my microsd card..
Actually I take that back. I can only mount my internal storage to my computer but not my microsd card. I have no idea how to do that...
That's normal behavior for the gtablet. There is no built in method for mounting the external SD to your computer.
Hi,
I'm running an Alcatel One Touch Mini with Jellybean. I have over 1gb of internal storage space not in use and have the option checked for apps to save to the internal storage, however, apps such as whatsapp still seem to save data on my SD card.
Why is this, and how do I rectify it? I prefer the space on my SD card to be saved for music.
Thanks
I have a gold tmobile LG g5 that I just got second hand. Not rooted or modified in any way, and I have a Samsung micro sd 32gb class 10. Normally you can go to storage, format, and format as internal, but here it just says format as portable. And I can't move apps to it. Is this normal
If you're still following this thread, Most apps (due to the way they're written) won't run from the SD card, so the developers turn that option off (so that they don't have to answer all the "how come your app stopped working after I moved it to my SD card?" questions). Besides, you don't move the app, you move small pieces of it, and there's a link left in internal storage pointing to each piece. Many times that results in the links taking up more total space than the app, so you actually lose storage space.
Adoptable storage (using the SD card as internal storage) was actually developed for those little 8GB phones. (After loading the OS, the recovery partition and the download partition, there's not much space left for apps.) I've been running a 32GB phone for over 4 years now, I'm a software develop, a software junky and I help people with app problems [so I install a lot of apps just to see what the problem is, then I forget to uninstall them] and at the moment, I have 20.88GB available in internal storage - Of course I don't keep a lot of 6GB movies on the phone, but if you do, you can store over 40 full-length movies on one 256GB card - and that's what should be on the SD card - videos, music, documents, etc - anything that's not an app [oe widget, which is the same thing]).
I just have noticed that after update to android 10 I have all my app on internal memory and can not move them to the external SD card like before in Android 9. Is there any way to save apps on external SD card?
I am wondering the same thing
You just want to save a copy of the app?
The SD card data bus is slower than the internal memory one. You don't want the OS to need to access the SD card constantly when running an app.
Q is already hamstrung by its scoped storage as it is...
how do i get my sd card to my internal storage or make it so i can atleast move apps to sd card. 64gb just doesnt cut it for storage, need atleast 128gb internal. i cant believe that they made this new model with low storage! you cant even format it to internal or external. i have been reading and trying all can find with no luck considering i dont have access to a windows os, only chromebook with mfg date 2014 and know nothing of linux or any coding. can anyone PLEASE lay it out in terms i can follow and understand....i just got the phone a week or so ago and already wanna smash it!!!!!!Thank you......
You can create a new partition and choose how much of your SD card you want to use as internal storage and all it takes is an adb command. You'll have to do a search for the tutorial but it shouldn't be too hard to find. The main issue is that you need to get the best quality SD card you can afford, or you'll have issues with speed. I did this with my Stylo 5 when I first purchased it.
