what is best battery life - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S Questions & Answers

What ROM or combination of ROM and kernel have the best battery life? I dont have the time to test every single one myself

Anyone useful here?

looks like most people have abandoned xda in favour of telegram, which imo is a worse platform. anyway, ive not tried android 10 roms much, but for pie roms, any rom will do so long as u pair it with canting kernel. the default kernel on most pie aosp roms drain way too much battery on idle.

Thank you for your suggestion. I'm trying pixel rom with canting kernel

LineageOS pie based is for me the best regarding battery

If anyone is interested I tested a bunch and found evolution x rom with twisted kernel to be the best for Android 10. It's got a bunch of customization and twisted kernel with fk manager makes it the best imo

[Q]Nexus 5 Best rom , kernel for battery life without losing performance[CAF VS AOSP]

Hi ,
I have tried allot of roms and i have tried franco kernel. im trying the latest 'stable' version of nougat from today (AOSP)
My question is, and i know it has be asked before and it usually is preferences. What rom that is VERY STABLE, gives the best battery life without it crashing any apps?
The stock is OK but i don't get good battery life or stability of it atm (4.4.2). have tried 6.0 but it didn't run like i wanted it to run, felt a little slow, and i will probably feel the same about nougat definatly because its a little bit beta ish atm.
The roms that i like the best are the once that are almost completely empty with PICO Gapps + Google maps. no bloatware, no extra features, no special customization just stable, smooth, good battery life aosp lovelyness.
Will i get any benefits in trying a CAF rom? and how do i go to CAF? is it just installing a CAF kernel, rom and TWRP version?
are their any CAF roms that are truly empty (aosp like) ?
and is CAF still a thing because i notice CM left it behind a while ago.
Will playing around with stuff like smart launcher, which are a little bit more basic give me what i want? and Ram managing and phone cleaning software like Cleaner master? because it feels like it helps a little but i have read that it might not be very healthy for ur performance yet the 2GB seems a little bit of a bottleneck atm and it seems to give me a slight boost that i require from time to time when clearing the ram.
also will xposed give me addons etc that might help or is it the same thing as the cleaner master story?
Franco kernel did give me a better battery life. but still not 100% what i wanted (yet i am beginning to think that i might have hit the maximum battery life ,that my battery might be slightly worn out and might need a replacement)
Sorry if this question annoys people because i know there is allot of info to be found and people ask this allot but i can't really seem to find a 100% answers as i want em to be.
Thanks in advance
Tell me what options do i have to get the Lightweight, long battery life, fast simple phone that i desire (Mobile Data needs to be on 24/7)
Pure Nexus with Franco Kernel is a really great setup, especially if you use FKUpdater. Use the Battery Saver profile and the battery life is perfect, with decent enough performance. I've tried multiple CM13 CAF builds, but I don't think I could live without Franco Kernel.
what about security patches?

I agree, this setup is really great.... except. How do you apply the monthly security patches? Automatic OTA doesn't like SU or custom kernel or custom recovery. I can't seem to find the OTA images to sideload. So a full adb load of _everything_ followed by reinstallation and rerooting? I've looked all over the forum and couldn't find a good way to get those pesky security updates.
Hi, I'm using stock AOSP with ElementalX kernel and I find this team really good. Battery life is decent with a normal usage without games (I usually arrive at the end of the day) also with T2W features active, my nexus have more than 2 years so battery is not so young. The only problem is that the official ElementalX app is not free but doesn't cost so much. I've never tried franco but I've heard great things about it.
About the monthly update I followed this procedure and everything went fine: http://elementalx.org/how-to-install-android-monthly-security-updates/ I'm not 100% sure that it works with every kernel because you will reflash the stock kernel and ramdisk.

The best battery life I've ever had has been with Pure Nexus and Franco Kernel r89. But a CAF CM14 build should give good results too.
Use CM13 CAF builds. You never come back to AOSP again. Amazing performance and battery backup.

Or use Dirty Unicorns for best battery backup. 6hr SOT

I don't use franco kernal. I recommend ElementalX
If u want u can use franco. No problem
CandySix with HellsCore Kernel is also a awesome kit. One of the best ROMs in both (performance and battery) categories. The same about Mark Rom
DU + ElementalX personally given me 4h in use screent DU + Franco has also given me 4h

Most Stable Nexus 5 Nougat (Android 7) Custom ROM?

Hi there,
What is the Most Stable Nexus 5 Nougat (Android 7) Custom ROM?
I try to read the latest post messages, but I don't know.
Thanks
Hey
I've been using Nitrogen OS for the past two months and can tell you that it's a stable ROM.
I've been using Fake Nexus for a while now after going through a few of the available Nougat roms and it's my favourite so far. Comes with Google apps pre-installed plus the new Pixel Launcher, the installation method is similar to flashing a stock image instead of a custom ROM as a zip and an upgrade from Android 6.0.1 worked for me without losing my data, like upgrading a nexus 5x from Android 6.0.1 to Android 7.0.
Also after experimenting a bit and getting the kernel settings right (I am using the blu.spark kernel) I got Multirom working correctly and I have CM13 and NetHunter as secondary roms, fully functional with their own kernels.
I'm pretty sure all the Android 7.0 roms use the same AOSP repo for the main build and only a small handful of customisations. It's a mater of personal preference really, all roms I tested seemed equally stable and had the same bugs (camera video issue etc). I chose Fake Nexus because it's the closest to a factory image and the only one I got working with Multirom side by side with android 6.
My advice, if your Nexus 5 is your daily driver don't use an android 7 rom as your primary rom, the video recording bug alone can be a pain.
Good luck!
Thanks for your feedback.
The video recording bug is still present in all rom ?
What settings did you use for Blu spark
Try Pure Nexus
As far as I know the Camera bug is there for all ROMS when using the stock Google Camera app. A few ROMS claim that using a different app works but personally I haven't tested them. My nexus 5 is not my main device (I have a 5x as well) so I don't use it's camera that much. Also I believe the original android 7 port came from Santhosh M as found on this rom here so if he manages to resolve this then it will be implemented in all other ROMS.
About the blu.spark kernel I installed with all default choices through the Aroma installer except the addition of DT2W. I'm also using kernel adiutor for in-ROM customisations but so far I didn't need to change anything from the defaults.
I was thinking about installing Pure Nexus as well but now that I finally have all 3 ROMS I wanted working I'm afraid I'm going to mess it up. When I added Miui from this thread it messed up all secondary ROMS. I could boot into the main ROM which for me is Android 7.0 but all secondary ROMs would get stuck on the google screen and after about a minute the phone would reboot and go straight into recovery. I think it had something to do with the Miui kernel but I never actually managed to figure it out.
So it's October 23rd, is the video and Camera bug still present on all ROMs?
I use this https://plus.google.com/109509643115521921407/posts/1R42n7pzfbP
It may look sketchy because it's not on XDA but I've been using it and believe me, everything works including Google Camera's video recording.
Previously I was on Nitrogen OS and I loved it because of the OTA updates but I don't like to have to find workarounds for my camera needs.
I've tested most of Nougat ROMs for N5:
Santosh, FakeNexus, PureNexus, NitrogenOS, BOKROM and itigr.
The only real daily driver as of today, Oct 23th is FakeNexus.
The others are good, lots of customization, but too many bugs here and there.
FakeNexus is stable, very battery friendly (some of the list above had battery drain issues) and is the easiest to install and configure, but lacks the customizations of the others.
Nitrogen is the one if you want a ROM with many features with that stock feeling, customization options are integrated on Android configuration menu.
PureNexus also has lots of customization, but on a different approach, it's more like AOSP and customization features are on their app.
Fake Nexus all the way. I used it for 1 day it is very stable rom. NO FC, noticeable lags, etc.
But I need to go back to MM stock because of the battery. Battery drain too fast average use only can hold for 5-6 hours.

I've tried most of these ROMs on my phone and have settled on Fake Nexus. It is very similar to what the Google Pixel set up is and I just love it. I've found it to be very stable on my phone.

I haven't noticed the battery drain on the Fake Nexus ROM at all. In fact, I'm staying with the Nougat ROM because it doesn't have the battery drain that I was experiencing on any of the Marshmallow ones.

hmm odd. some ppl on fake nexus thread say the same (battery drain). maybe not all experiencing it. will try again when have free time
I agree with the Fake Nexus is the most stable one. I do get 3:45min SOT most of the time from 100% down to 1%. I only get 3->3:15 SOT on stock marshmallow. The phone is aggressively used for online gaming via Data using VPN lol
What about the Octo N ROM? So far I've found it to be really good for me with the elemental x kernel, battery life is great, I love my customization options and the ROM is smooth, I typically use lower CPU frequencies max is like 1574 so I don't worry too much about my phone dying. Here's some screenshots of my setup. I'd like to try the fake ROM tho, it's getting really good reviews and I like that.

Fake Nexus doesn't have root option and if you love customization, you will be out of luck.
how about Euclidean OS?
and which roms is odex?
I was just on Fake Nexus, loved the Stock Google feel with all the Pixel gimmicks, but I just went back to Pure Nexus as I love some customization options and want to use Substratum.. Can't stand all the white ui on 7.1 and substratum wasn't working on it yet

'Best' is a highly misused term. There is no 'best' ROM. You'll have to try out a couple of them and then stick to the one you like best. As far as a suggestion is concerned, all the ROMs out there right now are pretty stable and have good performance and you shouldn't face any major problems. From my side, I'll suggest AOSP extended v4.0 or Official LineageOS.

I agree AOSP extended is best. Also best developer does this rom.
I find LineageOS to be sweet. It's the only rom I've flashed on the MG3, but I had a pretty good idea what I wanted as I have flashed many roms on many phones in the past. If you don't have such experience then I definitely agree with the idea of trying a few different ones to get a sense of what's out there in terms of stability, reliability, and support. But most of all, HAVE FUN!!!
You can use resurrection remix rom it's awesome
Aosp extended
Hello everyone
I tried many ROM : RR, AICP, LOS, AOSP Extended.... Now I'm trying Pure Nexus with BeansGapps Mini. This one have the essential, light, stable, good performance. I like RR a lot : many settings, stable and good performance too.
Try and choose
Lineage 14.1 with Greenify

Favorite Kernel and why?

We have plenty of options for kernel, lets get a discussion going on what we like/prefer and why
Currently i switch between Radioactive and Franken as they seem to give me the best performance and battery life i have yet to come to a conclusion on which i prefer or will use as my DD so i constantly switch between the two.
I've tried them all as well. I'm currently on Havoc with Smurf kernel and it has been solid. When I was running Franken ROM with the stock kernel is was also solid. Most of these kernels give me around the same battery life. I switch between Franken and Havoc. I like Havoc because there are more options and it has Android P toggles which are way nicer.

They are the ones I like the most but franken seems to no longer update. the last one is 3.2 true?
Smurf because:
+ "Smurfutil" CPU governor
+ "Westwood" TCP congestion algorithm available
+ "Maple" I/O scheduler available
+ Works well and is included with HavocOS (currently my favorite ROM)
+ Extremely responsive dev
The last two are probably the most important.

was released a couple weeks ago, i think dev is focused on the rom now, not to say the kernel isnt good or supported.

[Discussion] When do you think the custom roms will surpass miui?

i think right now there's no real custom rom that surpasses miui in performance or battery life, i honestly hate miui but every other rom i go to is worse in (only) these two category's,
do you think custom roms will surpass miui eventually?
also this is from my experiences so far so if you have a suggestion for a rom or a rom+kernel combo i'd like to hear them (and try them).
really ????????????
Yeah same like me .. i unlocked bootloader and rooted my poco
And i downloaded all custom roms .. but all have problems .. and i hope rom one ui complete cus .. just this rom will be good like miui .. cus i already trying the miui one ui . But not finished... And i try all kernels .. all charge battery very slowly.. not like miui .. fast charge real ..and i trying the mod XASP and this not working on miui 9.5.23 .. please if u found something new or good like charge faster .. and keeping battery .. will be good ... Thanks... And i sorry for my language
Mi-globe's ROM Builder is great for putting together a fairly debloated MIUI. I get the best performance and battery life with this rom, hands down.
As far as non-miui custom ROMs, PE CAF + Stock MIUI kernel, and the latest vendor/firmware is the best combo that I've found.
Next to PE CAF I like Havoc + Canting Kernel as well.

You are right about the battery and it's understandable that it wouldn't be that great on many custom ROMs due to the nature of MIUI to kill/restrict background apps or don't let them autostart by default.
But performance wise, I played PUBG on MIUI and I was devastated by how it performs, forget the benchmarks, they are all pumped on MIUI, but still getting better benchmark score and very very smooth gameplay on OxygenOS+eXtremeKernel. I tried going back to Stock MIUI after GameBoost was said to be improved, but it was not up to the mark in any way.
I used to run Official LOS and had fluid performance and decent battery combo on FrancoKernel before this and would get back as soon as I stop playing games
Edit: LOS+FK is more stable if you are not into games, and you should definitely give it a try. You can use Performance Profiles of FK Kernel Manager(paid app, worth it) to get more battery when needed.
Edit2: Just read the original developer's tweet in eXtreme Kernel thread, going to ditch this, OOS default kernel is also better.

If you like the MIUI flavor, you can stick to stock and debloat it. If you liked PE, you would love LOS along with Pix3lify Magisk Module and some other mods, as this makes it the same with greater performance.

i'll try, so far i did an antutu benchmark and got a score of 280000 which is decent tbh, i'll try to update about battery life tomorrow, im using this kernel - kernel-beryllium_global_9.5.20-ak2.zip.
I have the same feeling. I have tried almost all custom ROMs on Poco F1, but never got the same level of performance that I get from Miui. And no, I am not a Miui fanboy. Infact this is the first time I am using miui and I just hate it for the amount of bloatware it comes with. I am saving money and as soon as I have enough, I will ditch this device and go for Samsung Galaxy S10e or OnePlus 7 pro.

well i plan to use this device for around 2-3 years so i hope custom roms will get better.
well after using it for a bit the stock kernel doesn't work well for me at PE, idk why but im assuming it just works better with MIUI, im on MALAKAS KERNEL for now.
In my case, the performance only went up, when I'm using custom ROMs. I'm using CrDroid now, which is a hella lot smoother and performs way better than MIUI ever did, I didn't notice a huge battery impact. On MIUI I was using my phone for 2 days before charging, same goes for this custom ROM. My main concern with MIUI were it's features, like the hide notch function was removed in pie, and little things like that, that pi*sed me off.

It is not removed. Just a missing function in 10.2.3. Update to the global latest stable of MIUI, you'll get that option.
