32bit kernal and the broken source and no developers
finally hate this xiaomi
As a developer, I agreed with you and very freaking hate this device :/
This is my first post and sorry for the ramble!
I am venturing off of iPhones and onto Androids because I have a big issue with spending $1000 on an iPhone XS Max unlocked phone and not being "allowed" to play with root. iOS 12.2 and up is not jailbreak-able... yet. Secondly, I have made some mistakes on my choice of Android phones too. I did not study up enough and have now bought 3 Androids and now have the 4th one on order (OnePlus 7 Pro). I should have looked at ROMs and MODs before deciding which to buy.
In the past two months I have purchased a Samsung Galaxy S8 because the price was decent... Now I am ready to give it to a xda developer for research and development. I am on my 4th 7 day wait period for oem lock to show up. I was almost there and didn't realize auto updates was on and 9.0 Pie installed overnight! Uggggh.
Then I bought a Moto G7 not realizing there wasn't much work being done with kernels and roms. I did root it and I do use it, but I wan't more.
Then I went back to Best Buy to grab a Pixel 3 XL only to find that they were out of stock. So, I made mistake 3... I bought a Pixel 3a XL. I rooted it, but not finding too much else being developed on it like the 3 XL.
I am a Linux fan and run 3 different Distros (Linux Mint, Kali Linux, and Fedora) and what I really want is a GOOGLE FREE Linux phone. I wanted to "Google Free" the Google Pixel 3 XL, but now all my efforts will be spent on the OnePlus 7 Pro making it a Google Free Linux phone.
So now I have two iPhones, (XS Max and XR), iPad, and three Android phones that I will have to do something with. LOL.
Anyways, I will be on here from time to time studying and hope to get to know some of you guys.

That's one plan as soon as a get a phone that they support, lol. There is great options like LineageOS available for the OnePlus that I ordered. Google was great back when they were the new search engine with new algorithm... Now they have grown into a world controlling monster and are in everything.
I downloaded the data they had on me.... 9.8 gigs of everything, everywhere and who with and how. Way too much data collection.
I'm trying to figure out why screw Samsung when you left auto update on.
Sounds like your trying to justify not studying before you buy a major purchase like this most of these devices have been out long enough. Not like you bought one on release day then was blasted with a locked bootloader. I have a us locked bootloader s8 and have had my share of issues with Samsung in general and I still laugh at posts such as these

Yes Mr. Obvious, I did. As I posted, I am moving off of Apple to Android and have a lot to learn. Maybe I should change the topic title to "Screw Samsung, Apple, Timers on bootloaders, Unlockable bootloaders in general, and Forum trolls." :silly:

Yes again you are correct, however, I clearly admitted "I did not study up enough" and have now bought 3 Androids and now have the 4th one on order (OnePlus 7 Pro). "I should have looked at ROMs and MODs before deciding which to buy." in case you missed it... :good: The Samsung S8 has been out since April 21st 2017 in the US with the Snapdragon processor, so it could be a lack of interest in the S8 that is the problem. The Moto G7 was released on March 20, 2019 but I rooted it the day same day I bought it without time delays etc. The Pixel 3a XL was release on May 8, 2019 and I was also able to root it on the day I bought it. These phone manufacturers should realize that there would be a nice increase in sales if they would make unlocking the bootloader easier like OnePlus and Google has. They have Knox and fuses that protect them from warrantying rooted phones anyways. OnePlus will soar in sales this year with theirs with encouraging aftermarket dev work and their OxygenOS. Google Dev is close in this developer programs. SO, screw Samsung. But in their defense... they make some awesome products.

Well, laugh away big boy. These forums always seem to have people that like to ridicule newbies. I'm 56 years old and own a Ethical Hacking and Penetration Testing company that also has a vBulletin information and development forums site, so I am aware of the games. To me, my post sounds funny, not *****y, but I also understand that it can be difficult to convey emotions and feelings by typing words.
I run into a lot of these technical roadblocks too when attempting to help a major corporations secure their systems from cyber threats. It's one of the reasons I have three different Linux OS distributions on my laptop with grub handling the multi-boot. Each distro has it's own great qualities.... just as these Android phone makes and models.
Have a good day young man.

Ahhhhhh it's not on you. I've in my time seen several of the posts and love to stir the pot. I've been in the same situation myself buying used devices. Thinking surely there would be something for it and plenty of times not.
I'm not opposed to having someone mail me phones for development if that's what you mean lol.

BTW, tomorrow at 3:00 I am picking up a OnePlus 6T McLaren that I located. Then on the 9th, the OnePlus 7 Pro should be here. I'm going to be in hog heaven playing with these gadgets.

Xiaomi Redmi 8A the phone cheaper than Mi A2 Lite. Spotted on Geekbench with Android 10.
I guess Xiaomi didnt even started to develop Android 10 update for Mi A2 Lite. But theyre working hard for cheaper and Non-Android One device.
Well done Xiaomi!

I believe they have separate teams for AndroidOne and MIUI softwares, so this is not unexpected. Don't yell at me though, I know Xiaomi is late with their update. We're just gonna have to be a bit more patient.

It would be.
Mi UI much harder to implement than Android One. They have resources for harder one but not easy one. There is dead silence about it on Xiaomi side.
Clearly theyre following a policy called 'sell and forget'
I don't think Mi A2 Lite will get Android 10. All the signs from Xiaomi do not give many hopes.

They have many MIUI devices, so MIUI team is probably way more crowded and better funded than AndroidOne team. This is not exactly a matter of easy/hard. I'm not defending Xiaomi here by the way, just saying.

I don't know if I am wrong. It's a feeling I have because the signs sent do not look positive. Knowing it's up to the manufacturer to provide the update (to 10 because security patches they will provide while in the program) I wouldn't be surprised if there's no update to 10. At the end of the day, we know nothing, so you cannot say I am wrong and you right (or vice-versa). Fact is you do not know as well, right?

Their job is easy after Project Treble and Mi A2 Lite supports it. Also there is no customized UI. This is exactly a matter of easy/hard.
Xiaomi promised Android 10 update for Mi A2 Lite and we still waiting. There is no excuse!
This is my last Xiaomi phone btw. I'll never ever gonna experience this type of things again.
I bought my phone because of the Aluminum chasis. Not for Android One. I dont like plastic/glass phones.

I know that Xiaomi has to provide us an upgrade to Android 10, whether it is late or early, because our phone hasn't received 2 years of guaranteed Android updates yet. These are Google's words, not Xiaomi's and I happen to trust Google :

This is also my first and last Xiaomi smartphone. I also expected more from Xiaomi and AndroidOne program, I hate to admit though, that Xiaomi hasn't broken any rules yet. They've given us an update every month, whether it was stable or not, or whether it was early or pretty late in the month. I'm sharing the same feelings with you guys, I am frustrated. But there's nothing we can do but wait. Cheers.

As a manufacturer of phones you obviously have to evaluate a number of things in the design, capability, performance, marketing and support of any new product.
Users however, once they've bought their device, only care about one thing and that's support.
It seems clear, that some bean counters within Xiaomi have looked at the disappointing sales for the product, then have made a determination that providing ongoing support is not cost effective, that is a mistake and I'll explain why.
There maybe only a million users of this device worldwide, but turning a flagship phone into an abandonware device, within a year, is just not good business practice for a fledgling manufacturer trying to carve a niche out for for itself in a ridiculously competitive market. Not because of the million customers you'll upset, frankly in the big scheme of things that doesn't matter, but every new product you launch from here on forward has to get reviews and many of those reviews will make reference to your disdain for your paying customers, so it's not the million current users that are impacted, it's the hundreds of millions of future potential users who will read reviews that point out your happy to dump them if it suits you. That's just not good practice.
A companies reputation is the singularly most valuable intellectual property it owns, if you're happy to have a corporate mentality that will just p*ss that up against the wall you're certain to fail in the long term.
Make a commitment to at least deliver Android 10 to the platform, it'll pay you back in spades in the long term.
I can understand where you are going with this, but two things. First, Android 10 is available for perseus, not sure about andromeda. Second, Xiaomi will almost certainly never read this. If you are going to post this, I suggest putting it on their bulletin boards. I am a beta tester for Xiaomi, and I can tell you the frustration in the communication groups from users of Mix devices is obvious. Redmi "value" devices get more frequent and sooner updates, which is irritating. There are users in the communication groups used for this, almost always from India or the Middle East that demand updates, spam PM admins (including Xiaomi employees) via these tools, and the forums, asking repeatedly every week or more often for updates for their Redmi devices, and why Android 11 isn't available etc. The company is having to deal with that, and the same level of spam on the boards. Unfortunately, it seems the squeaky wheel gets the grease from Xiaomi.
I agree the Mix 3 flagship that I paid almost $700 for, not including a month shipping wait and the shipping cost, feels more like a bargain Motorola device on update frequency and speed. I hear you. This may be my last Xioami device.

Thanks for the reply, but honestly, I have better things to do then chase a company who seem intent on self destruction, if they need me to nag them into understanding what a sheeeet sandwich this is then some very senior management are just really stupido dumb frucks.
That said, they've got a lot of 'The product' end well sorted out, but haven't yet worked out reviewers remember.
Stay safe
As a blogger and as a part of the Xiaomi Staff, i must say that you're right: awful support for "Andromeda". I wish to be sincere with you, as a long time xda user. We had an internal Zoom Live Conference three days ago, i cannot reveal about what it was, but i can say you that we also talked A LOT about the Mi Mix 3 5G version. Has been said that the MIUI 11 + Android 10 update (that was supposed to come) have been pushed into very few devices but as soon as they pushed it, they just stopped it. That happened "because we found problems that may irreparably harm the device". So the missing update was because they found problems...anyway the low sales of the devices probably made them lose interest in trying to fix that problems because a lot of orher devices were launching, and nowadays they sold a lot well compared to Mix 5G. The same things happens with MIUI 12. First some rumors said that the device would receive the update, then other rumors said not...but the truth is in the middle for Xiaomi. In the Zoom call we heard that developers didn't abandoned at all the possibility to update the device and they're trying to fix problems, it may come very late...but at least it may come. I don't have any other news about that. I've seen a petition around so you all made all you can do. Me, as user, i'm really angry too because before buying a Mix 3 (4G version) i was so tented in buying the 5G version instead, and seeing that as now it has little to none suoport...well makes me feel very angry and i underatand you all for that reason. I can say that something is moving, so don't give up.
Last thing. Take this as confidential for obvious reasons. Thank you
For anyone that is interested here is my reply from Xiaomi customer support:
EDIT: See following post
Screenshot (original reply from Xiaomi 15 May)
If they are struggling with MIUI I'm sure a fair few of us on here would appreciate a stock android 10
An update would be very nice indeed but let's not forget the phone in my opinion is amazing I do love a fresh update though

Wow!!
That's just appalling.
Everyone who reads this should make sure that every YouTube or Online review for any Xiaomi product going forward reminds people about this abandonware policy, really is a terrible decision by a company trying to make a name for themselves in this crowded marketplace, looks like they may end up making the wrong kind of name.
This is what happens when you release 74892746729 models. You can't take care of them. I want to get back to the mi4-mi5 era where we had so many updates.

Which has caused me to sometimes create a second "Very old news from the OP" reserved post, but it's already a pain moving the chunks of news as it is, and I'm not sure if it's really worth the trouble.
I have probably only referenced the old news a couple of times, and a rolling solution such as purging the oldest news and keeping the newest would be a further pain.

I usually go to your threads from a notification and read the newest posts from there. I seldom go back to the OP. I never even knew you updated them until now.
In the past, I'd go back to the OP in custom ROM threads when there was an update, but I haven't used custom ROMs since I got the Pixel 2XL. I don't find them necessary anymore. I am planning on keeping my Pixel 5 for a while though, so when updates for that are over I'll probably go back to trying them. I meant to with my 2XL as well, but I never got around to it before I didn't own it anymore.

I hear you. Even by 2015 I usually regretted trying custom ROMs. And no disrespect intended towards developers. I think you're all awesome. I installed Lineage on my HTC 10 in the last year and that phone would run so hot, plus the battery was definitely lasting significantly less time than on stock, even for an old Android version on an old phone.
Admittedly, I haven't played around with others like Graphene, et cetera, but I'm not about to, either.

Except for the update versions (which may still be useful for those interested in getting a Pixel 7 in 2/3 years, everything else was deleted after 6 months to 1 year because you could find the information on the internet and a former member can always answer it.
