Unable to make phone ring - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello
I just bought this phone, and despite navigating the entire settings menu, I am unable to turn up the volume for the ringer. The vibrate icon shows on the status bar,and a notification on the quick settings shows that I'm on vibrate mode.
What have I overlooked??
Edit..disregard.i found the little sound rocker volume above the power button. What is the purpose of it since that's what settings are for ?

When your in a meeting or someplace where your attention is required and you don't want your phone blaring out it's downright disrespectful. And pulling out your phone to unlock and put in silence mode, says a lot to people. Now pulling it out, and hitting the slider makes people curious about the phone, it's just convenient. And with heptic feedback, you can feel what mode your on without even pulling it out.

Thank you. That makes sense. You sound like an expert on this device. I've received a few texts, but there's no light to blink. How can I get notified when the screen is off?
Also, where can I start looking to upgrade it to Android 10 and rooting?

Please understand my respectful reply...but it seems to me that you know very little about this phone...and you want to root it? My serious recommendation is that you stick with stock, go to the Play Store and install Oxygen Updater as this app will get you the latest available updates for the 7 Pro. Stay away from root, and boot loader unlocking as this will wipe the phone and several people have problems doing this. Just stick with stock.

I would agree with you on that, about sticking with stock in OOS. But, Root gives you access to tweak your device to your liking, and add extra security features. Android isn't Android unless your running at Root level. If your new, then I'd suggest you read first, and it helps if you know Linux.

Can you elaborate? What features?
I just upgraded to 10.0.2, and I will root it tonight following arden144's guide. I may not know all the technical details of this device yet, bit I've rooted every phone that I've owned.

Vibrate When Plugging In For Charge?

I'm new to Android and I can't seem to find the answer to this question.
When you plug in an iPhone for charging, it vibrates briefly to let you know it's charging?
Is there a similar setting for the Nexus 5? I can't seem to find it in Settings and as I searched Xposed modules and Play Store widgets, none of them seemed to have this exact setting or feature.
When I search the forums here, all I find are people who seem to be suffering from a defect and don't want their phone or tablet vibrating when they're plugged in.
To be clear, I just want a short vibration and a short screen wake when I plug into a micro USB cord for charging. This would confirm to me that the phone is actually charging.
Thanks in advance!

I can't remember if the stock software updated to do this but for example, I'm on SlimKat ROM and I can set to vibrate, play a sound, and wake up the screen. Some ROMs may have other options as well.
I'm not sure if an app would do this but mostly I've always seen it built into the ROM itself.

For SlimKat:
Settings > Display > Wake up on charge
Settings > Sound > Advanced options > (Enable, Vibrate, Notification sound). The sub menu in Advanced options is called "Power Connectivity Alert".

I am using 4.4.2 Kit Kat stock. I don't have the "Wake up on charge" setting under the Display settings.
Under Sound, I do not have "Advanced Options" under Sound.
Thank you for helping. I'm relatively new to Android; I'm not to the point where I'm considering flashing modified ROMs onto my Nexus 5 yet. I like that I'm able to root stock Android relatively easily and use the latest version of Android essentially when it becomes available. It's something I took for granted using iOS. It's nice to be able to go to the latest and greatest on the Nexus 5 essentially as soon as it's out.
Is there another way to do what I want to do without installing SlimKat?

It is possible to do it without SlimKat but I'm not sure. Stock Android is rather lousy even with root. Custom ROM's are the only way to go with the exception of losing proprietary features. So you won't have the options I've told you, it would be on SlimKat ROM. I recommend you read sticky threads on XDA to beef up your knowledge. You may also want to search the Play Store and see if apps are available to do these functions until you decide you wish to use custom ROMs.

I set it to vibrate most of time as I'm in meetings most days and coming from iOS, I'm not in the habit of switching the volume back up when I'm done. When set to silent, the iPhone vibrates when I plug it in to charge. That's the functionality I'm looking for really as I try to sneak a charge whenever I can, i.e. in the car, etc. It's nice to get the confirmation vibrate that it's charging without having to turn the volume back up.
Maybe it's not possible on stock or a widget or via Xposed. Just wondered if someone knew if I could get that functionality on stock but rooted Android.
Thanks!

II guess you could just change the build.prop to make it do this.
Also I just realised it only chimes when placed on a wireless charger lol.

There's an Xposed module that will let you get a lot more granular if you're WIRELESS charging,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2587431
LOL, but nothing it seems, for basic Micro USB cable chargers.
Have you seen my mobile app which does exactly the same.

Amy feedback is welcome. If you dont happen to like the app, I will be happy to refund

[Q] Newbie help with sound issue

Hi everyone, and thanks in advance if you can help. I need my phone to be silent during daytime meetings and at night. I've installed an app which should take care of this. However I still get sound notifications. I'm assuming it's the "interruptions" feature over riding the app as I see the star icon displayed. Is there anything I can do to stop this? It's really annoying me. Thank you so much for your assistance.

Hit the volume button one so the sounds mode dialogue pops up onto your screen. You'll see three options, All, Priority, and None. Select None.

Hello Heisenberg and thank you for getting back to me. I've seen the option you describe, but I wanted something that would work with my calendar and automatically mute during events - plus at night time and then revert back to normal. Every time the app I'm using modifies the sound profiles, the star icon appears and lets notifications through. I think I'd prefer to disable "interruptions" and use the app full time as it's far more efficient and versatile. Do you know if it's possible? Sadly, I can't find a way to make the phone work in the way I want it to - do you have any other thoughts please?

I don't understand why you need an app. I just use profiles and adjust the sound mode manually, it's easy enough.

Ah - I tried that and couldn't find a way to make it happen using my location, an app will do it all automatically during the day based on my calendar and also at night. Am I missing something here?? Forgive me if I sound dim but I'm getting very fed up having to constantly mess around with the phone settings because it seems to override the app settings. What happened to "quiet hours"??

Marshamallow piece of crap

Hi,
I have a moto g 3 and updated to marshamallow.
it was the first time i ever upgraded an android phone.
little did i know the troubles this would cause.
-phone is now considerably slower.... **noticeable SLOWER!**
- I used to shake my phone and lit up the flashlight. now that works 1 out of 20 tries. its bugged.
- at lollipop i would click the volume key and it would show an option to silence the phone.
they removed that feature and moved it to the slide menu. so now i have touch screen, unlock it, slide down,
click the silence button, click ok.... thats 3 more clicks, and even more if you use an unlock passwd or pattern.
its stooopid. at lollipop it didnt matter if ur phone was locked, volume key would be accesible and silence it.
thats a 2click procedure.
/rant off
I want to downgrade to lollipop.
Can anyone point me to a how to link procedure?
i need some foolproof very in detail.procedure, im a guy with general computer knowledge, but not a die hard.
have not rooted a phone ever. but if theres a procedure for downgrading that is detailed thoroughly & foolproof id appreciate the link so I can study it.

Have you done a factory reset? that solves most problems.

Being a fellow who uses the phone as a phone, I immediately noticed that thing after upgrading from a CM12.1 based rom to a CM13 based one... It was one of the functions I used more during the day.
Some other things that makes me want to come back to CM12.1...? yes.
-The fact that the Contact tab inside the dialer doesn't filters out contacts I decided to not show on the Contact app.
-(Not really a MM issue, but instead related to Cyanogenmod.) No call recording (another essential feature for me)!
The phone part of our "smart" devices is becoming worse and even more worse every update . Maybe it's time to come back to a Nokia 3310 or a Qtek 9090 like in the good old days

i haven´t but i read somewhere else that a factory reset would not downgrade android version. since it also changed its firmware..
dont know if thats true or false.. did you or anyone reading this has actually done a factory reset and their android device downgraded itself? need to be sure, dont want to waste time, backing **** up, doing factory reset
only to notice it still marshmallow and then redownload and restore everything so i can use the phone and still have the problem.
thanks

I think downgrading will be a more difficult task than a factory reset. A factory reset should clear all your issues.

soyes 7s mini phone- How to disable "assist touch" ? gets turned on each boot
I got a cheap mini phone for dog walks,
soyes 7s
got it rooted and works fine, but there is an assist touch settings that enables a floating button after each boot. I can disable it in accessibility settings, but it is enabled again after a restart.
I have looked in the files in root, but have not found anything yet that might enable this setting each boot.
Now created a task in macrodroid with autoinput that disables it with a button.
Any slight chance of any help regarding a setting that is activated each boot?
I’d like to know this too. I’d love to see someone create a custom rom for this cool little phone. I love it.
have not found a solution, but with macrodroid and autoinput made it toggle the setting. So after unlock the settings screen is opened then toggled. Not pretty.
Also installed xposed on it.
Very cool little phone. Perfect with a bt earpiece and audify that reads incoming sms-email and caller name. Used Vphone S8 before, but this android thing is better and not much bigger.
Thanks for that. It’s fun with angry birds too lol. I’m really surprised the geeks haven’t jumped all over this. Low cost of entry and super cool and useful toy. You wanna meet girls, take this out on an elevator when they are all messing with their phones lol. I have mine set up to look like an iphone and it’s ace. Even found a silver Apple logo for the back on eBay. It’s a conversation starter. Way more capable than an Apple Watch lol

Awesome! Now it is working. Thanks a lot! I just installed xposed and now i am going to change some things and see if i can improve my battery. I will come back latter!
I installed the xposed installer and just installed the framework it suggested. arm7I.
OK My device is rooted. What is xposed? How does it work? I’m new to android. I’ve downloaded it from the App Store but can’t make it do anything. What tweaks work best and how do I get them installed?
I'd like to be able to tweak the home button functionality to be able to mimic iOS and activate voice search etc.

I don’t know about that because it does a good job at standby time something seems to be draining it when in use may be some app or background process.I am sure we have plenty of people here with the know how to get it running better. I know this phone has been selling like hot cakes and a growing interest in the phone because it so well built and does not look so cheap and decent performance for that crazy size of it.Also i have been testing hotspot on this phone and the battery life is amazing when using hotspot to my ipad very impressed definitely a very handy feature of this phone.
Mine is also changed to 130dpi, looks much better now. That sim tray is a work of art lol.
yes, this phone is very snappy for the size. Feels faster than the two android watches I have, that are not used. Needed something that can be tucked away connected with bt and a voice notifier.
The xposed module "app settings" is good to tweak certain apps dpi and font size. I think my overall dpi is 120-130.
Also setcpu profiles to save when screen off and 900mhz screen on, only max cpu with incoming calls. Then greenify and amplify.
For me it last 2 days of dog walks, or 4-5 hours on connected to bt with a few short calls.
Do you have any issues with app icons moving around changing locations? I’m using an IPhone X launcher.
no, but i use Nova launcher. Not paid much attention, mainly for accepting incoming calls

Phone vibrates when I pick it up.

Well, as the title says, everytime I pick up my phone I feel a little vibration (and no, I don't have the "smart alert" thing turned on). I tried not to be worried about it but I can't not notice it. Any ideas?

May be you guys should try turning off the setting and restart, if that doesnt solve the problem go to recovery mode and clear cache. Let us know if any of that works.
On a side note: I have been facing weird ass issues with this phone just today my phone wont go to mute by using volume key while receiving a call. Like someone calls you and your phone is ringing, you just want to silence the ringtone you can use volume key (Press once), Flip the phone or put your palm over it (If you have the settings on). I tried multiple restarts and switched on and off the settings many times. It was fixed when i restarted my phone to download mode (This happened by mistake i wanted to go to recovery) anyhow that fixed it.

That's the trick.
Figuring out which app is responsible.

There are apps that log notifications so you can just check the log and quickly determine what is causing the notification even if nothing is showing on-screen

If they catch it. Consider which sensors and operation triggers it, cause and effect, to narrow it down.
Playing with Android is fun... Android witch hunts are how you really learn about Android's gooey layer tricks.
Google searches on older Notes and parallel Samsung models can turn up answers many times.
This model is too recent; so not near as much online troubleshooting info. Google searches encompass threads on this forum as well so it can be a good way to find the needle in the Android stack. Do not time limit searches.
On my 10+ with it's baffling bt poor audio I found the answer with something written about the N9.
Many of these issues are long standing.
Samsung finally fixed the bt settings issue in a Wearables update. That took years.
Only persistence is omnipotent...
I figured that out by chance..
It's the edge-compass app
Just delete it from edge apps and it'll go away.. cheers

Well, I've checked all that and nothing, I don't even have the compass edge panel. But I think I'm able to replicate the issue, it mostly happens when my phone is face down on a surface and I pick it up and turn it to me, I don't have a case on it yet and I'm starting to think that it might have something to do with the edge screen but so far no luck
Use good lock. It has a module to detect vibrations and tell you what they are
Nice catch

Yeah, I installed it yesterday. But no vibrations are registered there so honestly I don't even know what to think now.
On the other hand when I switched from my note 10 plus I used smart switch, and now I'm thinking I should do a fresh start on my n20U.

Exactly check if you have Notistar from good lock switched on. That cache might need clearing.
I just go with it lol. I'm nutz. I'll feel my **** vibrate in my pocket when its sitting on the table. So I don't pay much mind to phantom vibrations. ???

It does suck some battery life though. It's one of the features I disable on my 10+ mostly because I find it annoying.
It's cool though how much you can customize notification behavior; one of the biggest reasons to go with Samsung is customization.
I play around with Settings a lot.. never crashed a load doing it. It's just occasionally gets time consuming to sort it out.
