I bough my first android phone (SE x10 mini pro) yesterday, and I still have a right to return it.
Things that bug me
* Amount of "**** you SE" post that I seen in this site.
* When I press the ">>" button of the music player it takes 3 seconds for the player to skip to next track(tested with both vbr0 and 320 mp3 files)
* Wifi sucks!, disconnects alot and the device does not even notices that it have been disconnected
* Google wants to anonymously record every freaking thing I do
* ****ty camera and even ****tier camera software. My 4 years old phone takes way better pictures with its 3.2mp camera than 5mp camera of mini pro
* It does not allow me to really customize the interface, it allows only one widget for desktop(As a long time linux user I'm incredibly disappointed)
I'm guessing most of this problems can be solved by rooting
questions:
* I know small screen size makes some application disappear from the market. How many applications I'm missing? What is the estimated percent of apps that does not support small screens
* Is this a good phone to root? Even though I enjoy a nice technical challenge, I don't really have time to work on getting my phone to work
notes;
I do not care about flash support,
I do not care about small battery.
*** I wish get that linux feeling get from openzaurus. I wish to be the driver not the passenger
so; should I return it?, should I keep it? or should I root it?
All advice is welcomed
Thanks.
last day until my right to return fades and I will be stuck with this phone, forever...
i would go with another android phone just my personal opinion
if you aren't sure i'd return it, wait a few days and see if you find something better and then go buy it again.... sure you may lose the restocking fee, but it's better than two years with a phone you don't like

+1...................
preferably to anyone that has had the Cubot one for longer than a month.
does the phone still work as you had hoped? its everything fine with it?
i have read alot of good things about this phone, and am interested in getting it, i currently have the iphone 4.
this will be my first 'clone phone'
just want to know if it still holds up after a while
thanks.
Hi, I've been using the cubot one for about 4 months.
It's a good phone but, to be honest, I don't know if new next phone will be a Chinese one again.
First of all you can appreciate a big difference in performance as compared to a branded phone with similar specs (the branded one performs better), which can may consider acceptable seen the huge difference in the price.
Problem is that the lack of performance has a big impact on the way you'll use the phone (compared to the way you wanted to use it)
Do you use your phone as alarm clock? Well tell your boss you may be late sometimes becuase the cubot one happens to switch off overnight (even with fully charged battery) time by time. It happenwd to me probably 5 times in 4 months!
Do you use to take pictures with your phone? Well, its probably best you get a pocket camera always with you. Resolution of photos with the cubot one is not bad (it's a reasonable 7Mpix)...when you can see them!!! If you use the flash, the result is a completely white photo, due, I guess, to a wrong timing shutter-flash. So no night photos. If you take pictures with plenty of natual light, well 4 out of 5 will be corrupeted in zero time and the result is "no thumbnail available". I've missed a lot of shots in this way.
I still have stock 4.2.1 rom (august 2013) and time by time phone freezes or goes to deep stand by (remove battery necessary), also periodically I find new apps installed without my permission!!!
My room uses embedded GOlauncher, it does not use stock android!
From reviews it seems you can use it to play heavy games, but I can't even play temple run, it becomes a stop motion like game.
I'm currently looking for a better rom, hoping that usage experience will improve.
My partner has the same phone with june 2014 4.2.1 rom, in her case it's stock android, and she has a bit less issues than I do, but she doesn't use the phone as "intensively" as I do either.
Who else upgraded to the z3 from a galaxy s3?

(I went from S3 -> Z3. Considered waiting for the Z4 but what's the point? It's still all just rumours and when that's out you'll be waiting for the Z5!)
Z3 is the first Android I've had where I don't want to get rid of the UI for stock/CM/Slimroms etc. I need root fairly badly for development reasons, and there's no way of doing that without losing some Sony software, but between the sensible Sony UI and the ability to use adb pm to remove unwanted bloat I have no other complaints at all.

Thanks
Coming from S3 i'll receive my Z3 thursday
I made the switch from my S3 to the Z3 yesterday. I am still using my S3 at present because I still need to set it all up and realised (after upgrading) I couldn't root it without unlocking bootloader, which isn't too helpful.
I am thinking of changing my S5 for the Z3
Not had an xperia phone since the first Z, so could be a mistake

I wouldn't. You'd be downgrading the camera, probably a bit of speed and maybe even battery life depending on how you use your phone. Also the S5 is much more comfortable to hold and has a better screen.
I am coming from the S3 and it is a major upgrade! I did install Nova Prime but I do not miss root. It is so fast!

The sony have a better camera overall . The Samsung have a very shaky camera
I came from an S3 to the Z3v. And I never look back on it because of all the attention grabbing how I have one completely unique phone from the rest that's an army of Samsung and Apple.
S3 to Z3.. Not Everyone is in with my Choice. but I've never been happier with an Android Device yet..
Z3 Rocks!
I came from an S3. Write up of my quick thoughts and discussion here on Reddit:

Edit: Still happy with it, but my biggest complaint has to do with SMS/MMS: Sometimes it just flat out fails. Have to go into airplane mode and back to get it working again. (I don't use WiFi calling, so that's not it.) Have tried turning off auto date/time as a possible fix as reported by others. Too soon to tell.
It depends person to person but if you are going to be in a 2 year contract and use your phone "extensively", you will more than likely see screen burn on the S5. Its the nature of organic LEDs. Also the Z3 on manual takes good pics Im sure they will fix auto mode in the new update.
As for battery life the Z3 will have better battery-life every review I have seen says the same, especially in web surfing because on white back grounds AMOLED uses a lot more power than LCD's.
In the audio department Z3 has stereo speakers which the S5 does not. As for the audio jack output both are good.
GSM Arena battery life test results on bottom of each page.

At the end of the day both are good phones though. Try each one and see which suits you as our opinions may not match yours.
I consider my self fairly neutral when comes to phones. I used to tell people to avoid Sony (only the phones) in the mid 2000s (Symbian era) as most of my friends/relatives phones had issues in less than a year but Sony has come a long way and this is my first Sony phone and I am happy.

Hello all,
I've recently bought an Xperia XA and have been satisfied with the device itself, i know its a new phone and we could await some updates, but what i encountered last night made me create an account here and ask.
I was low on battery, basically 1% and attached it to the charger i received with the phone itself, thus the phone goes into normal mode no battery saving or stamina, nothing and no third party apps installed for it. I started browsing Instagram, through google chrome, and even though the phone was charging it couldn't get up even 1% for the time I was on it, basically 30mins almost.
Now, your thoughts, I see on the forums the battery drains fast, cannot basically use it without stamina mode, but do you think that this is 'normal' or should I go back and ask for a different device?
Do you think the updates to the system itself will solve the problems in the future? I was on an Xperia M2 before and was really satisfied, battery lasted whole day no stamina mode, no problem. And from the specifications I read its supposed to have a good battery(XA).
Thank you,
Friction

Not sure about the charging but one thing I never do is use a device whilst charging, there is a known wifi bug that doesn't let the device reach deap sleep on the original firmware are you on the latest firmware version as the wifi bug is fixed and there's a new kernel aswell apparently I also recommend either a factory reset or software repair once latest firmware is available. How is it compared to the m2 as I'm making the same upgrade next week all being well and I'm following everything closely it's a stunning looking device only had a few brief goes with one don't know whether to get black/charcoal one or lime gold one

The current build number is 33.2.A.2.35 and I did do a factory reset since the update but didn't help much. For eg I've taken it off the charger this morning @ 6.00 and haven't been using it much, a couple of viber messages and pictures taken, one short call (under 1 min) basically its on my desk while I'm at work, only chatting with my gf a bit. And it dropped right now to 40% . And it is in Stamina mode, with optimization disabled for viber and whatsapp.
*edit call quality way better than m2 forgot that*
Now compared to the M2, hands down like going from a zastava car(serbian) to a benz i'd say, works flawlessly, the camera both front and back is better than expected, zoom is nice, design and aluminium body are perfect with slight screen curvature. It says mid range but certainly doesn't feel like it. Only issue beside the battery is finding accessories for it, screen protection or casing, at least in Serbia, as it is brand new, most people in shops haven't even heard of it.

Hi all,
I'm planning on getting my wife a brand new S7, but I'm not sure if the phone still performs well compared to most modern smarphones in 2018. She needs nothing special - just a good camera & overall smooth experience.
I'll be happy to read our thoughts on this.
Cheers!
yes, the S7 is still a good phone and has as well the latest software available.

If I wasn't a sucker for new phones and latest tech I would have no need to upgrade my S7 to anything newer, still super quick with amazing camera, and after almost 2 years still getting good battery life
Your wife would be happy with an S7
go on the s7. I can't find a replacement at less than 400 euros : camera As good as a s8 or recent smartphones under 600€.
Good battery life and very smooth
Depends on the pricing.
For this money u get a 2016 flagship, not to compare with a midrange 2018 phone which cost the same.
The hardware of the s7 will be much better.

Hi Detection,
I know this is out of this topic, but wanted to ask you. I believe you are on Oreo right now, what do you find better than on Nougat. Jumped into nougat only a couple of months ago, and really getting more battery life than on MM, and other things are much better and smooth.
Is Oreo really worth it for our S7?

Pros:
Better battery life (but could be from the factory reset)
While out away from WiFi, 4G/LTE uses next to no battery now, I can go out with 100% battery, listen to music for my 30 min walk to the gym, 2-3 hours there, then another 30 mins walk back listing to music, and still have 92% when I get home
Slightly better performance of the OS
If an SMS has a link, it shows a thumbnail of the site without becoming MMS
PiP able to watch videos/YT while using the phone for other things
Dual Messenger (Use two separate accounts for the same app such as WhatsApp, only just discovered this, not sure if it was in Nougat)
Some others that I can't remember off hand
Cons:
Keep screen off while in a dark place such as bag/pocket is gone, now it just stops touch working but allows the screen to remain on say if you get an SMS (dumb)
Charging sound now part of System volume level, so no charge connect sound if you lower system volume to kill shutter sound
When downloading an APK via the browser or other app, the notification saying it has completed downloading no longer allows you to start the install by pressing it, it just clears the notification forcing you to go find it via a file explorer (This could be a bug as it has worked one time only since upgrading)
--
Would I go back to Nougat?
No not really, wouldn't take the chance on the battery life again, and I can live with the cons which I'm guessing could be improved / fixed over time, for a first release (re-release) it's a good update for me
It's not a massive update to Nougat, could really easily have been just a normal update to Nougat itself, more like a service pack than a full OS update IMO, nothing like MM > N
If you've just moved to N then I'd just wait until O is pushed to your phone via OTA, not really anything worth shouting about
