im stumped.
All i want to do is move over a video and some music files from my pc to my Transformer tablet using the USB charging cable. My pc is running XP.
I dont have dock/keyboard or an sd card. Just my tablet. I figure i could do this with the usb charging cable. My tablet should show up as a mass storage drive on the pc right?
went to the site to install drivers. Asus sync works, so does my Splashtop remote. I also downloaded a zip file called "ASUS Android USB drivers for windows" and a RAR file called "pc suite_v1_0_18".
asus usb driver i got some MTP error
pc suite i got error "application failed to initalize properly (0xc0000135)
I figure this would be simple. I figure "Pc Suite" should help me move files? I dont know what it is since it wont install. or maybe i could use splashtop? I really dont know.lol All i want to do is move over some files through the usb cable. 15+ experience with computers and I'm embarresed asking all this.
You rebooted both devices?
Wifi explorer also works.

guess i'll give wifi explorer a try. who uses usb anyway right? lol
but I should be able to use usb though right? isn't it supposed to show on my pc as a drive along with the other drives under 'my computer'?
it should also show up as a drive in my computer. like you mentioned. all the other android builds show device as a drive. I would say driver issue
I don't know the size of your video but on smaller files I'll just use dropbox.
Now if someone can tell me how to do it on a mac I'll be happy. I have 4 other android devices and all mount fine.
It just gets mounted as a standard USB drive when I plug my TF into PC, just copy files as you would with any thumb drive
Go market install ES File Explorer, its Free
Create a share folder or setup a share on existing folder on your PC
Go to the LAN mode of ES File Explorer on your tab and scan for new server, select the server or IP address on the same network
there you go, can copy file from PC to tab...no root needed
CHeers
Adb push? Mounting doesn't work with Honeycomb, because they doesn't use FAT32 anymore. All data is in ext4 now.

No - Honeycomb doesn't use USB mass storage, it uses MTP. If you are using XP, you should install Windows Media Player 10 at a minimum to gain MTP support.

The Mac doesn't natively support MTP. You need this.

THANKS for all the responses so far!
I've only had a droid phone (Optimus V) for 3 months. Its my first smartphone and now i've stepped it up to this tablet. Not rooted.
To clarify my original post I'm trying to move a large movie file to my tablet and give Vital player a try. The info provided by the responses so far have been a big help.
THANKS again for helping a noob out.
Very simple, but not least expensive.
I use a Tonido plug ( ubuntu based server) on my network ( always on) to store any files I want to share. I can have access and stream from it on my local wifi network or remotely via direct IP connect. Using ES file Explorer, it looks like just another drive on my network, Store my music there then just stream to TF over network no TF storage needed,.
Hi,
I was hoping to use the tab plus as an ebook reader among other things. I noticed that I can't sync it with Calibre. I'm fine with the ebook app on here but how do I side load epub files?
I tried emailing them to myself and seeing if I could download but Gmail says there is no app on the device that can read this file. I know this is not true though.
just copy the files to your tab and import the book from reader
how do I do that? It doesn't seem like I can mount the tab as a mass storage device. All it allows for is MTP mode. This doesn't seem to mount on Mac OSX.
you can use airdroid or any wifi explorer in market to transfer via wifi.... since 7+ used honeycomb it cant be mount as mass storage device.
Great, I'll give that a try thank you!
Um, guys, you know that Calibre has a mini-webserver capability now for the library right?
So... server + wifi + browser = no problem, I even use it with my kobo touch and it's browser and haven't hooked up to my computer for book syncing pretty much since that capability was added.
The only real drawback about the calibre server is that there's no builtin multiple select to download all at once, but I'd never really considered that until just now as I'm usually just pulling one title/document at a time.
Also you can email them to yourself, that's what I do when my cable is not present. Then go into astro (or any file manager would likely work) and move them to the ebook/import folder on the onboard storage. That part might not be necessarily but even if it isn't I just like have my books in the ebook folder.

The Nexus 5 supports USB OTG, but automatically mounting of attached mass storage devices is not supported.
This is only possible if you root your device and use an app like StickMount.
But there is a possiblity to access your streaming-files (like videos) without copying them to the download folder.
You can use the filemanager "Total Commander" with the "USB-Stick Plugin".
From the Total Commander you can access all files on your stick, read/write and direct streaming is supported.
I was wondering about the LED myself, also I don't get any LED notifications if I use Handcent for as the default SMS app.

my notifications work fine, hangouts, facebook, email, gmail, ...with different colours, but it seems random. On the nexus one, you had profiles to aasign led colors to apps, but maybe that was cyanogen mod, not the stock rom.

I'm trying to access my Shield storage over the network.
I tried using ftp server tools but none of them worked, including es file explorer. They would connect but fail to get me a directory listing. I got ssh sftp server to work, but I can't read any external drives.
I can read the internal Shield drive (the 16 GBs). But I have external drives connected over USB that I want to access. It looks like there is a permission problem. When I change to access the external drives, I can see them in the directory listing but clicking on them and traversing them I get an error. I'd probably have to set it up so the ssh user has root access, but than I'd need to root my device.
My local apps like Kodi can see and access the external drive, its only my sftp server user that cannot.
Is there a simple way to access external storage remotely?
I have the same issue. Did you finally find a solution?
Thanks.
Sam question here, anyone find a solution to this? Thanks!
I'm guessing either Google needs to fix this in their next release, or we'd have to root the box so we can set the permissions for the ftp server to an elevated level.
Hi all. Looks like I'm 3+ years late to this conversation . Not sure if I should have created a new thread instead?
But I got a shield recently, and I have a similar (not same) issue. I *can* access the external drive with sftp (using installed ssh server that I can't find in google play store any more).
However, access to the drive is read-only. I can't upload anything, or delete anything, etc. Through that sftp, I have full access to the internal 16gb drive.
Initially, ES File Explorer also couldnt write to the external drive either. I was able to 'unlock' it to make it work, using these instructions:
https://forums.geforce.com/default/...-es-explorer-fail-error/post/4782494/#4782494
Anyone know how to make that same popup to unlock the ssh server's write access to the drive? Or to unlock write permission to the drive in general, system-wide?
I'm not rooted or anything by the way.
I suppose, alternatively, I can turn on some FTP server capabilities within ES on the shield?
I am trying to copy a large amout of music to the internal storage of my S22 Ultra with a USB-C to C 3.1 Gen 2 cable on Windows 11 (also tried another PC with 10). When I paste the files into the Music folder, the transfer starts like normal but then file explorer just closes and the computer makes a sound like the phone has been disconnected. I've managed to get it to work in the past by transfering much smaller amounts of files but I don't see why large volumes do this. Am I missing something? I takes so long to manually select these files I just want to do it all at once.

The problem is most likely with the USB port on your laptop. Otherwise, try using another cable.
If you have power saving enabled for your USB ports on your laptop, try disabling it and see if that helps.
Try in safe mode using Samsung's My files.
If that works try in normal mode.
Try toggling Developer options temporarily off.
Bad cable or port.
Incorrect Windows driver.
Check Windows Event Viewer for error messages.
On my N10+'s I transfer 240+gb a shot with no issues... however if the PC 'hiccups' it will drop the transfer. Occasionally I see that happen.
Don't run other programs or use during transfers and mind the power settings/states of both devices, adjust as needed for transfers.
My OTG flashsticks generally do better.
Always verify data size and file number after transfer and... readability.
This isn't a device or laptop problem.
I had this many times on all my devices.
Check the file names.
For example my file transfer on any android phone crashes/stops with errors if the file name is something like
LitOldschoolHipHopMixtape .mp3 - Has space between name and file extension
or
LitMixtape '90s Style.mp3 - has ' in the name
or
⛥Dxrk ダーク - RAVE⛥.flac - emoji/text symbol
or
Ночной дрифт 藤原 car music collection.aiff - multi language name
Checking the file names would be the first step to do if you experience such issues.
If you are connected with PC/Laptop and Phone to same network, try with this app here
On Windows you go to file explorer (if on Windows 7 or earlier, use FileZilla), right click on This PC, add a network location, on the address bar type ftp:// and your ip address. For example ftp://127.0.0.1:8080

Yeah... I never allow anything other than plain text in file or folder names.
If needed I edit them when they're downloaded.
The KISS principle applies here.
All media files especially downloads are always kept in their own separate folder if added to the database. That can provide an extra security layer that will stop some malicious scripts if they get into the main folder. One scripted jpeg will make a believer out of you

I've run into this issue too when copying my music collection (about 180GB). I think it is because of the amount of data you are copying. I ended up copying smaller chunks at a time. Usually around 10 to 15 GB of data at a time.
I narrowed it down to specific files and changed the file names. Thanks @MichalPlays
