T-Mobile Users - ASUS ZenFone 6 (2019) Questions & Answers

Hello, so I'm currently looking to replace my phone and the only phone that fits my needs is the z6. My only concern is comparability with tmo. Do any z6 owners use tmo? And if so, how is the lte? If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

My last phone was oneplus 3, and I'd say speed is about on par, both get LTE. But no voLTE for zenfone. There are places where I'm getting receptions and oneplus 3 didn't. I don't think you will notice much difference, unless you are in a place where band 71 is normal.

I get better data speeds than my gfs Galaxy s9. I'm in Chicago
For the most part it's ok speeds could be a tad faster at times but 90% of the time coverage and speeds are fine
No volte or wifi calling
Sent from my Asus Zenfone 6 using Tapatalk

works well with TMobile
All good for me. As above, only thing is missing volte and wifi calling. Using the phone successfully on tmo in Southern California and roaming in Taiwan and China.

Blu Pure XL on T-Mobile?

I'm curious if anyone in the forum has bought the Blu Pure XL and used it on T-Mobile? Supposely the LTE support is "limited", but I would like to know what that might mean to me in the real world........
I recently took my Verizon-branded Samsung Galaxy S4 and ported it to Walmart Family Mobile (which runs off T-Mobile), and I've had some baffling issues. Time for an upgrade. Considering this device, but only IF it will work well with T-Mobile... thanks
Yes, it works on TMobile. I get 4G LTE on it. I'm using it around the Bay Area, East Bay and Sacramento area in California.
I'm surprised you can take any Verizon phone - which runs on CDMA - and use it on TMobile - which uses GSM.

Yes Verizon phones have cdma and GSM bands and I know ever since the iPhone 5 and the galaxy s5 Samsung and Apple phones from verizon come factory unlocked for GSM use.

Works fine in San Francisco bay area, Las Vegas, LA, San Diego & Austin TX. I had no coverage in Orlando,FL only.
I'm using it on t-mobile and have not had connectivity issues anywhere I've traveled.
The only thing missing on T-Mobile is LTE band 12, which is faster than the other bands present (provided you live in an area that has band 12.) I live in Dallas/Fort Worth and IN a band 12 area, and my LTE performance is usually the same on my LG V10 (which supports band 12) and my BLU Pure XL. I've had no problems (other than some minor bluetooth issues, that seem to have been resolved with the latest update.)
I came from a T-Mobile G4 I pre-ordered, so I had it a long time. Got the BLU in December. As far as I can tell, the Pure XL actually gets better and more consistent signal then the G4 did, I use about 40gb of data a month. Very consistent LTE signal in covered areas, and even rural signal is very good; I drive a lot.
I live in Dallas/Fort Worth area as well.
I have no issues with my Pure XL on T-Mobile. Since it doesn't have support for band 12, LTE coverage inside buildings can occasionally be spotty, but it just goes to regular 4G with full signal, no problem. I'm in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Works great for me on T-Mobile and never have problems with getting LTE. I'll take some speed tests and report. I work about 30 miles from home so will take both areas and list them to see if that helps.
Springfield Illinois checking in, I use T mobile and works great... fast lte (30+ MB down, ive seen as high as 45 i think
Works great on T-mo for me in Denver.

Working for me. T-Mobile in sim 1. AT&T in sim 2.
Sent from my PURE XL using XDA-Developers mobile app
Works great in Livermore CA 94550.
Still want to switch to net 10 though, as I had previously.
Net10 Customer support is really bad......
The Pure XL works well in South FLorida ( WPB, Broward and Miami-Dade) on Tmobiles LTE network. Occasionally, I will drop down to 4G but 99% of the time, 4G LTE is available in my coverage area.

Surprisingly weak cell signal indoors

I'm a Tmobile customer who recently upgraded from Galaxy S5 to Mate 9. My new Mate 9 struggles to get a cell signal in my house, which prohibits sending/receiving texts and making/receiving calls. It mostly says Emergency Calls Only or No Service at the top of the screen. I did not have these issues with my mid-2014 device, so I'm surprised and disappointed to have them today. Could be a deal breaker in keeping the device.
Are there any settings or changes I can make within the device to improve signal strength?
That is surprising, as I've had much better reception compared to my Note 3. No settings changed, just popped in the SIM (after cutting it down to fit). But I should add that my Note 3 was an AT&T version, which did not support t-mobile's Band 12, so it's POSSIBLE that extra band has contributed to my better reception.

I kinda wonder if this phone actually gets band 12. There seems to be no way to see what band ur phones using and i get better reception by a lot at work and my apartment with my pixel xl than my mate 9. How can it be certified on band 12 with tmobile and not have wifi calling on tmobile?

I don't see why the two would be related. My understanding is WiFi calling is a somewhat proprietary function: WiFi calling on T-mobile is different than WiFi calling on AT&T, etc., so the software to use it is specific to the carrier. Band 12 is just another band. If the phone supports it (and it's supposed to), then it should work.
I live in a somewhat poor t-mobile spot: I typically only got 1 or 2 two at home, and 1 bar, to sometimes no service in the Kroger a block away from me. With the Mate 9, I'm getting 3-4 bars in both places.

But with band 12 doesnt you're phone have to be certified by T-Mobile to really work on band 12? I thot it did which in turn made me thing, why would it be band 12 certifed and not have T-Mobiles wifi calling certified?

I'm not aware of anything "special" about band 12 vs. any other band.
Yeah the exact opposite over here. Really strong signals indoor not to mention where my Nexus 6p and note 4 signals would be dead zero, I'm still able to get LTE. And yeah it does have band 12
I've tried my phone in Japan on Docomo and AU networks, and in the US on T-Mobile, and I haven't had trouble with reception at all. But obviously, this is totally subjective and is based on your location relative towers.
Total opposite for me, slightly better reception that with my previous phones.

Appreciate the feedback. I'll need to expedite a decision to either return it or hope for a resolution at some future point. Thanks!
yeap, band 12 (indoor) band sucks on my CHN 6/128 turned EU. I had a US Mate 9 and indoor reception sucked as well. My old LG V20 and Note 7 had better indoor signal.
I have 2 bars 4g where i couldn't have signal on other phones.

Sub par cellular reception (GM1917)

Anybody else finding that the reception on this phone is not as good as your previous devices?
I am on Verizon and I already have bad reception inside and outside of my house.
Previously had a Nexus 6p and LGv10 . Both had a hard time locking on signal but not as bad as the Oneplus7pro.
Are there any tweaks I can make to improve the reception?
I am fully capable of editing/flashing anything as I am unlocked/rooted/TWRP'd etc.
Thanks

Not having issues.
I'm on Verizon.
My unlocked GM1917 has very good coverage & reception on T-Mobile.
Working well here with Metro.
No issues with AT&T.
I'm on Tmobile and my 7Pro unlocked (not Tmobile branded) is getting at least 30% faster download and upload speeds then my OP 6 with the sim card and same areas. I just pop it out and put in the other phone. OP6 is downloading at 123mbps and my 7Pro 20 seconds later is pulling 161mbps. So the new modem on the SD855 is significantly better. Not sure about the other carriers but the 7Pro network speeds are insane.
My GM1915 has better reception, wifi, and bt than my note9
How exactly are you gauging the quality of the cellular reception?
I'm on Verizon and had the OnePlus 7 Pro working for about 2 days. I haven't noticed any signal issues that I didn't already have with my Galaxy S8+.
Sent from my GM1917 using Tapatalk
I have Verizon also and no problems but keep in mind if you are in a bad area that the 7pro has no cdma to fall back on and will have to struggle on a weak LTE signal.
It also has no vowifi on Verizon so Google voice with WiFi calling on would be the only rescue.

T-mobile 5g with the S8

I will start off by saying I live in Seattle, the homeland for t-mobile. I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing 5g actually being slower than 4g. Not just by feel, but by statistics and facts.
This is the case for me. Now I understand 5G is not global yet, but I think New York has it. I am getting about 21mbps download and 12 upload with 5g. On 4g, I am getting 41mbps down and about 12 up.
My Wifi at home gets 475mbps download, and 25 up. Anyone else experiencing this problem? Thanks.!

Just got my OnePlus 8 Friday In Peoria just outside Phoenix and most of our cities are 5g tmo ready and getting the same have not had one test where 5g works faster then 4g..
I dont think it has anything to do with T mobile having its headquarters in Washington...
I think it was more John Legre blowing typical marketing smoke and some of us fell for it!
With full bars for me, I get 80+ mbps on 4G LTE and around 110 mbps with 5G. I live in Akron, Ohio. From what I've read, the (600 MHz sub-6) 5G that T-Mobile offers is more about coverage than it is speeds. mmWave is more for speed.

Are you able to post your speeds?
I live in Boise Idaho and just got the OnePlus 8 yesterday. I ran speed tests on my OnePlus and the 5G seems to be anywhere between 30mbps-60mbps faster than my 4g LTE is ?* Don't pay attention to the first test. That was on the outskirts of my town and I only had barely any service, just wanted to test it to see with basically no service how fast it could go.
I work at a Tmobile store so I think I can help a bit but I’m not speaking for the company. So your phone is working fine Tmobile has 3 layers of 5G: Low band , Midband, And High band. Right now the current 5G that is available across the country is low band the speeds are slower but you have much better coverage, with the sprint merger they will next be rolling out the midband which will give you better speeds but not as great of coverage as the low band. Then they will roll out the high band which will be super fast but not very reliable (Verizon uses only high band and the signal can be easily blocked) right now in NYC they have working on all 3 layers at once and eventually that will expand. The benefit of being on the 5G network right now is that it separated from the LTE users so there is a lot less congestion.
I'm in Philadelphia, PA and my 5G seems way slower than any 4G ever was.
Also close, just north of Seattle. I'm on ATT MVNO Consumer Cellular now as their LTE speeds are better than T-Mobile around here.
I tried a Mint Mobile 250MB trial SIM and drove around testing. I was connecting to normal LTE bands (2, 4, 12, 66,.. Couldn't connect to tasty 71) running 5G protocol. I ran through the data quickly but speeds seemed to be on par with T-Mobile LTE. Cell speeds around here have always been pretty congested.
I can't get Consumer Cellular to connect to ATT 5G with ANY combination of settings but that could be maybe OP8 IMEI must be whitelisted with ATT (thought they just did that) or Consumer Cellular doesn't allow 5G even though an old site page says they will.
In the pic the 5G one is the only T-Mobile test I actually ran outside the Google speed test page. Red icon is using single connection (more realistic) and green is multi connection.
For now I guess ATT LTE still faster.
Also what is 5G Smart Switching (or whatever) in settings page?

Sorry, just saw this. Been hella busy working on the house while the government recharges all the birds. ? When I get to an area where I live that has all bars, I'll post the speeds on 5G and 4G for you. My buddy just switched from Sprint to AT&T (iPhone 11 Pro Max) and he hit 186Mbps. Irrelevant but just still BS.
We are just changing the protocol using existing radio bands. Near 200 Mbps is the speed of my Comcast WAN. Outside very large single file downloads what would you need higher for? Not scrapin' just curious.

Having high download/upload speeds are nice especially if you stream games with your phone like I do. Regularly use Xbox Game Preview, GeForce NOW, and Stadia. Although I wish Google weren't such suckas and let you stream over LTE but hey, what can you do?
Here are my speeds taken directly after the 10.5.8 IN55CB update. 4G LTE, 5G, and WiFi.
Tmo speeds are abysmal in Dallas fort worth of anyone is wondering .
I'm talking much slower than lte, seriously around 15 to 27mbps if you're lucky. I only upgraded from the 7t for 5g and it's a joke.
Just FYI tmo says that's normal and to be expected too... ??
No I'm at anywhere from 45 to 70 mbs download and up to 40mbs up even with a vpn I. Seattle
Decent speed down at the Des Moines/Federal Way border. On 5G.
You guys are killing me! I'm an hour east of Atlanta. My LTE reads 16Mpbs and my 5g reads 31Mpbs. So it's definitely faster but waaaay behind you guys.
Great speed on 5 G. TMO added two more bands and it is blazing fast.

VOLTE On TMobile & ATT?

will volte work out the box for TMobile ? They won't activate phones on their network after a while if they don't support VOLTE.... Or any plans to update it in the near future. When will this go on sale in North America?
Sent from my ASUS_I01WDX using Tapatalk
I am currently on T-mo, it doesn't do VoLTE currently, I know its possible via root and changing parameters. ALSO they just enabled VoLTE for their ROG phone 3 via an update so I will assume they will probably do the same for the ZF7, if not I will have to root it.
I asked an asus rep about sale in NA and they didn't have an answer from marketing team, so I bought mine on eBay
I'm beginning to think they will sell in in america especially if they enable volte for TMobile like they did the rog 3. I'm waiting to see if they enable volte on the 6 and the 7.
And then there's the OnePlus 8T coming in going to weigh my optione

This guy apparently has VoLTE already on his phone, unsure how though.
Will this work on att in the states? Also which model if so?
ATT will ONLY work upto 3g. You will see an H on top the signal bar which indicates a Enhanced 3g speed also know as HSPA speed connection. I have tried 2 new sim cards. I have tried several APN's I have tried all updates and a reset. No 4G and no 5G on ATT. Unless someone can tell me something new, this phone will not FULLY work on ATT. Text works. Calls work. Internet is sort of hit and miss with decent signal but again rather slow.
T Mobile will ONLY work upto 4g. No Volte although it seems to have the capability of Volte it cant not work with Tmobile Volte because it seems the cell bands are not compatible. Text work. Internet works rather fast, Good solid signal however no 5G and no Volte due to incompatible cell bands.
I did research on this subject and found that the ATT cell bands for everything including 5G do seem to be compatible with the 7 pro but again, it does not FULLY work oddly
I also did research on Tmobile cell bands and the bands for 5G are not even close to being compatible. Volte is also non compatible. 4g is compatible and works..
THIS IS MY OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCE TODAY AS I PURCHASED A SIM FROM EACH PROVIDER ( THIS IS A DUAL SIM PHONE) AND PLACED THEM BOTH IN THE PHONE.. I DID EXTENSIVE RESEARCH>>>
IF ANYONE CAN GET THE PHONE TO DO 4G or 5G ID APPRECIATE THAT INFO>>
ASUS NEEDS TO DO AN UPDAT FAST BEFORE PEOPLE START TO RETURN THIS DEVICE. THIS AGE IS ALL ABOUT 5 G.. THIS PHONE IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH USA. I DO NOT SEE HOW AN UPDATE WILL FIX THE PROBLEM SINCE THE PHONE IS ONLY PHYSICALLY CABLE OF A SPECIFIC SET OF BANDS WHICH ARE NOT NOT NOT THE SAME AS USA BANDS
