OOS 10 - Idle battery drain VS OOS 9 - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Hi all,
Having been on OOS 10 now for a few weeks, I can report that I'm getting very strange overnight battery drain.
There are no weird wakelocks, no rogue apps, it's just strange drain. I used to get 2-5% drain overnight using same scenario and setup and now on OOS 10 I'm getting 15%+ overnight drain.
Is anyone else seeing this too? Is there anything we can do to rectify this? Do custom A10 ROM's also see this drain?
Just to confirm: this is a clean install too if the stable build.

same problem + many bugs with oos10.
This release is a beta, not stable.

Not only is the battery draining like crazy, but the phone is also getting significantly hotter under regular use than before. And I've also noticed scrolling feels a bit stuttery and is not as smooth as it was in OOS 9.
I hope OnePlus pays attention to these issues, otherwise I'll have to go the custom ROM way.

Disable Ram Boost in settings ?

I'm getting better than OOS 9 battery drain. I've not done anything unusual, with Bluetooth, wifi & location all on 24/7 and a smartwatch I used to get about 1.5% per hour drain.
Now I'm tracking under at about 0.8% to 1% per hour. No special plugins or addon's to help with this.
PS. RAM boost on as well.

Why would I, my battery drain is better than OOS9. I used to have 1.3%-1.5% on OOS9 and I'm now around 0.8% on 10.
BT, Wifi, pocket Mode and location all on on previous build and this one.

Have you tried using naptime? It does give good results with a forced doze.

I never used that before and I was getting 2-3% total overnight drain so, OOS 10.

Same here. Huge idle battery drain and lots of lag. Hopefully they'll fix it with the next update.

Theo next update Has come. How do you guys find battery life after update? First version was destroying my battery!

How do I know when to change my battery?
I'm using cm10.1 07/14 for 5 months now without issues, but for past 3 days 5-8% battery discharge during standby, heating on charging or web browsing or even ui browsing and unusually low RAM.
Or is it some apps or games I've recently installed. I suspect that it might be new version of AVG antivirus, any ideas?
Please help! Thanks
Is your battery OEM or third party?

Other than the battery/charge issue, the cm11 is awesome!! Thanks to Scott!!!
Using original battery. I'm on cm10.1 14/07 a.k.a Android 4.2.2!
Deleted some games and apps and battery is stabilising a little during standby, but on slight use it loses 8% minimum!

Have you flashed custom ROMs on the phone? If so, you should go and get an app like Battery Calibrator, which could recalibrate the battery and display the proper battery percentage. It's possible that your battery is fine, but your phone doesn't know any better since flashing ROMs mess up the cache.

Screen on time

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the OnePlus 5 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
If you use the device without too much idle/commute you can get real pretty SOT on wifi.
Display at about 15-30% with auto brightness.
Chrome, YouTube, twitter, facebook, reddit, etc.
awesome lol
all wifi? can you post all battery details?
I only get 4 hours of screen on time with Greenify
Battery was good until yesterday, 8hrs SOT circa. Suddenly battery starts draining and can I barely reach 2,30 SOT. Any idea? No apps showed in battery page, the only app I downloaded yesterday was Textra SMS (Beta), but it's very strange that it can drains so much.

I'm getting amazing battery life out of this thing. Regularly hit over 6hrs screen on time when I'm out and about, and at home on WiFi it's approaching 10hrs! That's with everything switched on and no battery saving measures applied
+1, battery life is pretty good. Using phone for around 4 - 5 hours SOT watching video, with WIFI,4g and bluetooth on - using bluetooth headset - and goes from around 94% to 66%....
Not too shabby in this day and age. I have other phones that, with that usage, would be in the 10 - 20% range after that usage.
Got my OP5 rooted and i want to install a dark theme + battery safer.
Did some research but the stuff on playstore has tons of negative feedback that it is crap and doesn't work.
So how do you do it?
I'm already using the systems own dark mode, but i want to utilize the maximum and use a dark theme that makes everything pure black.
I read in the S8 forums, that the phone automatically doesn't light up pixels that are black, is it the same for the OP5? Is a "turn off pixels" app even needed?
Thanks for any help.
Usually my screen reach over 6 hours on.
I always have the manual brightness.

I suggest you to go for custom ROM like Resurrection Remix Unofficial. It is OMS so theming is so easy peasy. I had so much trouble with theming OOS. Lots of time I got stuck on bootloop which can't even substratum_rescue.zip solve. And RR also now has OOS camera, so I will highly suggest you go and try it. It is battery friendly as well. Especially when you use Lightning kernel + spectrum app with battery mode.

OnePlus 6 5.1.6 battery life

Updated to 5.1.6 yesterday and used my phone pretty heavily today battery life is great screen brightness between 50 and 75% and at 35% left I have had a SOT of 5 hours and 10 minutes!
Testing SOT. Good so far.
I've got 5 hours SOT , include playing PUBG 2 hours ?
I'm about to call it a night. Good run so far. Better than 5.1.5.

Come on that is impossible, one game of PUBG that is roughly ~ 25 mins on wifi takes away 13% battery...
What settings do you play at...? I play at smooth detail level and extreme framerate setting.
And my battery for one game falls by 13% approx.

So did the new OTA fix the battery issues?
I got better battery hour even after gaming fb wasap 9gag snap some picture & videos. Battery still can hold more than 1day. Applause for OnePlus 6.

SOT will also depend on standby time of your using your phone constantly with low standby time then you tend to get more SOT

There have never been any battery life issues, it's an ancient belief that started with the OnePlus ONE.. Battery life is always measured by your last battery cycle. If you barely use your phone for one cycle, you will have a high SOT for the next battery cycle, if you keep playing games all day, the algorithm will estimate a lower SOT. The time when you decide to start charging your phone again will also have in an impact on SOT. It's all about ESTIMATION, not precise and factual stats.
It's definitely (a bit) better than 5.1.5. I can get 50h of standby with 6.5h SOT:

Clear Google Play Services Data
If you are not aware, Google Play Services is where most of the things happen on Android. However, a buggy Google Play Services update or behaviour might result in Android System battery drain. The straight fix to this can be wiping Google Play Services data from Android Settings.
To wipe data, go to Settings > Apps > Google Play Services > Storage > Manage Space > Clear Cache and Clear All Data.

Why is my idle battery drain so bad if all my wakelocks look fine? (Pie stable)

Getting fine screen on time, but bad standby time. I left my phone idle for more than 10 hours, and everything looks fine...but I'm draining more than 2% per hour doing nothing! When I use the phone normally, idle drain is closer to 3%, with still not specific problem that can be seen. On Oreo stable, it was around 1.5%, which is still bad compared to my iPhone, but not unbearable. I had no SIM installed because it was in my iPhone, but with or without makes no noticeable difference.
Advanced optimization, sleep standby optimization AND adaptive battery also make no noticeable difference in ANY combination on and off.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Edit: You might also notice the VPN icon, it's not a normal VPN (with active, keep-alive connection), but a proxy for those of us living in China. Again, I've tested on or off, no difference, and you can't see it in wakelocks or processes.

I don't understand. This is 11 hours of stats idle, on my table at home, with no one touching it. This is no different from ide overnight on my bedside table except total time. I have gathered overnight stats many times with exactly the same results as what's shown here trying to figure out what's wrong.
Could also be a bad WIFI, seen this before for some 5ghz networks.
Is bbs being optimized in battery settings?
try 2.4ghz wifi if you can (where you have good connection, OR just turn wifi off, so we can rule that out the equation.)
make sure better battery stats is NOT being optimized
and try one more time.

Thanks for those suggestions. I hadn't tried switching to 2.4ghz or un-optimizing better battery stats. Unfortunately, there is no noticeable difference yet again. Turning Wifi off totally used to help a bit in Oreo, but hasn't made any difference at all in Pie.
Having the same issue too. Idle drain is fairly high on pie. Wakelocks are pretty clean too. I'm convinced it's something Google related or it's just the system isn't all that optimized as they want us to believe

Thanks for the reply. That makes me feel a little better. Most people on the internet complaining about Pie drain of course has no idea how to actually check anything beyond Android stock battery stats, so there's no way to corroborate.
I noticed that beta 4 has " * Optimized standby power consumption " listed as a system fix. But I don't want to clean flash in and then clean flash out of beta yet again because all of them have had such horrible touch latency that dozens of users are complaining about. But I'm almost tempted to try it.
Can anyone on beta 4 chime in?

Thanks for the feedback! But 0.3% / hour? I'm skeptical. I'm not sure that any Android phone has ever been that low draining, ever. Certainly not in my years of experience. I don't think that's possible even with no apps installed. You can't post any wakelock details because you're not rooted... Maybe post a screenshot of your battery usage graph, please?

Thanks. I feel like I'm being really lucky with this device tho.
I will get my root on today, clean flash again and I will just set it up and see where it lands. But I thought no what saves my battery the most is really good reception. The antenna is around 100meters (300 feet) from my house, WiFi is on point aswell (best on 2.4ghz)
So, like I said the bootloader got unlocked, root is on again so everything is fresh.
The smart battery didn't even have time to read apps that's draining battery this is standby usage with stock settings from OnePlus, without any optimizations. Im counting on adaptive battery that it will do its thing after a day or two.
I have around 20 apps installed but the ones that matter for battery is Telegram, instagram, steam.

Is it possible to have more 4/5h sot with 4000mah ?!

Hi all !
Small question, is it possible to have more than 4/5 hours of screen with this phone? I'm on beta 18 (but it was the same with my stable 10.0.8) but have a pretty high battery drain without really understanding why (no heavy app use) ...
I would like to switch to Lineage, do you think I could have some improvement? I had also tested the Elemental X kernel on the stable and it worked well, the two combined would be okay?

Crappy network and Bluetooth are the reasons. I used to get 4.5-6hrs of screen on time when I used to use bluetooth all the time. I switched to wired headphones and Now I get 7-10hrs depending on my usage.

I did mostly google apps so far. I'm still under setup and tweaking I just barely got the device. Had to flash back and forth. Tmobile sim unlock. And now I'm kinda setup and I'm averaging it seems about 5 hours. With about 40 % left.
Beta 19, 2k, 90hz, no tweak or anything except using greenify, battery saver is always off, auto brightness on, double sim card, no wifi or bluetooth usage, I use every app on dark mode, no gaming, daily use + watching full hd or 2k videos for an hour or more a day and I get 6-7 hours screen time. The phone is 10 months old
