ui lag - ASUS ZenFone 6 (2019) Questions & Answers

anybody facing ui lags and stuters after updating to android 10?

I'm getting a little lag and freezes at times maybe a few times a day
Sent from my Asus Zenfone 6 using Tapatalk

I see no difference between A9 and A10, but I am using Nova Prime launcher since day one.

I think it's a Asus launcher problem I actually had it crash on me yesterday it's not a frequent problem maybe once or twice a day but I am considering a hard reset of the phone
Sent from my Asus Zenfone 6 using Tapatalk

I did hard reset,so most of times lag is gone but still experience lag in switching and in apps as long as chrome is in background,if chrome is closed everything goes to normal

Chrome stutters and lags because of Chrome is known problem of Chrome and Android 10. We should wait for Google to rectify this issue.

The last android 10 update killed the smoothness of phone.. ram management is also not that good compared to android 9.. pretty laggy UI

having lags also, and seems to be draining more battery since upgraded to android 10. Lag is especially noticeable after quitting games.
Not sure if it's asus rom or what, was hoping to avoid rooting it for custom rom.

Even fingerprint scanner lags .. my phone rebooted first time in its own

I've heard doing factory reset solves it, which is annoying. Can anyone try and report back?
EDIT: did a factory reset and that seems to work. Also tried asus local backup feature to restore apps. No problem restoring apps, but app data and settings are hit and miss, some apps work, most don't.

I installed the new firmware and the lag disappeared

Noticeable improvement after I did a hard reset yesterday so far so good. There's also a new update that rolled out I haven't received it yet it's suppose to address some of the issues
Sent from my ASUS_I01WDX using Tapatalk

there's an update today on my phone.
1. Fixed an issue where ASUS Launcher and Settings may not work occasionally
2. Improved the reliability of Fingerprint to unlock the device
3. Optimized system stability

[Q] galaxy tab 2 7.0 slows until reboot

OK so the galaxy tab started out like a champ, but then as I got all my apps downloaded and spent a few hours on the device I noticed a slowdown in the touchwiz UI. So I restarted and it was back to normal, however then a few hours later I noticed it slow down again. I then proceeded to do a factory reset, but the problem persists. The slowdown seems to only effect the touchwiz UI and not the overall performance of the device. I even went to the extent of monitoring the processes but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Clearing ram and what not didn't seem to help. Could it just be a bug in the touchwiz or should I consider trying to return the device to Walmart? Everything is still stock on it and I just got it a few days ago.
What you'r experiencing is common with this tab2 format on the 7 and 10 tabs, that's the reason most tab 2 owners install market launchers. I use Apex and it was a huge improvement over stock. Also you get way more customizing features with Apex than you do with tw launcher.

It seems to be a graphical issue. I hope they fix it because even though the tw launcher will get slower and slower the rest of the tab stays fast. until(if) they put a patch out im sticking with apex.

There's multiple threads on this. The tab slows after a lot of installs, but after a reboot runs just fine. You can switch launchers if you want, or you can just reboot the tab after you make significant changes. In the month+ I've had mine, I've only had to reboot twice after installing a bunch of apps, and have had no trouble after the reboot.
mine seems to do it regardless of apps downloaded, also I have a pretty major death grip issue. If i hold it on the left corner i go from full wifi to no wifi. Im gonna exchange it today.
I'm also now using apex and seems better

[Q] General performance question...

I'm wondering if anyone can weigh in on how their device performs out of the box. I got mine on Saturday and unlocked it and am thinking of installing some of CM9's work because I've always like what he's done on the Droids, but I'm noticing that this tablet, for lack of a better way to say, is awful.
It freezes all the time. When you get into a the browser, whether it's stock or chrome, the pages are unresponsive to zoom in and out. I mean ultimately your action will be performed, but I've seen it take 5 seconds. It's actually unbearable. My D4 NEVER has this problem EVER and the tablet should blow the D4 away.
How does everyone else's tf300 work? And will custom ROM's improve this awful experience? I don't want to have to take it back and I won't if there is potential somewhere that I'm not realizing. I have 10 days left to decide and right now, it's a no-go. So if anyone can share their experience I'd love to hear it.
I bought my tf300 yesterday, and couldn't be happier. I unlocked it and installed aokp this morning and things have been great. Haven't noticed any lag viewing webpages, youtube, music etc. I've been very happy with this tabIet, as it's my first one. I believe aokp allows you to overclock to 1.5ghz (obviously it drains batteries a little bit more) but even on the stock asus rom, i encountered no lag whatsoever.
as shocking as it might be to know..i have not yet rooted the tf300t. i've been using it for over a month now..i got it the week that it came out..and i've happy with it. every once in a while you will see a "freeze" for now reason. It does seem to freeze more on startup because it is trying to do several things at once (like update gmail, corporate account, and sync up other things). But after that it is really smooth.
I was talking to another friend about this and he managed to hunt down someone else having similar issues to me and Asus declared their product to be defective, issue a new one, which works "flawlessly". I guess it's back to Office Depot I go. I refuse to let Apple win.
Hopefully you get a working one, I'm enjoying mine quite a bit. The aokp rom is quick and fun to use, and I refuse to ever own apple products. Go android!
I bought mine about 2 weeks ago , and it freezes one or 2 times , but in general works great , didn't unlocked and changed to custom roms yet but will in future , but for now i am loving it
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
Have it now for 6+ weeks. Stock/rooted. Works like a champ. Good tablet apps are the issue, not the tab. No way you should have the issues you do.
Still Charged Up
Nice performance
Got mine 3 weeks before. unlocked it and rooted from the second day, i am really happy from the latest update the us.30 for me. i dont experience any lag or freezes or force closes at all. The performance is better but it always depends on the owner.
I found useful to install an app called autostarts (needs root) that prevents apps from being loaded at any time u use your device.
For example i cant understand why google play store must open when i remove an application. With this program i prevent things from loading at startup of the device, so i have a quicker startup time and i know that no other apps are in use when i dont need them and only working is the app that i use.
U can see what apps are runnig at any time with a task manager or something relevant.
So as i say before the performance of a device depends also on the owner.
I bought 2 tf300's, one for me and one for my girlfriend. Mine has Cyanogenmod 9 on it, hers has stock (.30 firmware).
I will say that mine is noticeably faster, Chrome doesn't lag hardly ever, hers freezes up a lot more.
You should be careful about some apps too, Facebook in my opinion is the worst. That app will cause your phone/tablet to lag like nothing else, as soon as I uninstalled Facebook on my girlfriends tablet it was like a brand new machine (though still not quite as fast as CM 9)

I was having this issue also and was getting pretty fed up with it.
However, after doing a reset on the device it works perfectly now. Resetting the device formats the primary partition and takes it back to stock (keeping firmware updates). You can get to this option by turning the device off and holding the volume down button when powering on and it should be the second option. This stopped the force closes and lags with my TF300T
I know that asus has loaded some bloatware on the tablet which cause it to lag occasionaly so i used seanz rom. It's so fast it's scary it really takes advantage of the power of this tablet.

Yeah. Seanz' Hydro rom makes stock appear laggy and unresponsive my device was running slow before the. 30 firmware update.

The lag is mostly happening due to the I/O scheduler in the kernel. We probably won't see the true performance on this tablet until we get a custom kernel. The source is on ASUS's website but no kernel hackers have this device. The lag only shows when mounting and un mounting SD cards, writing to SD cards/NAND and downloading/updating Play store apps.
The only fix I know so far is to go find a SIO scheduler from the Transformer Prime's forum and install it. I did that and the lag went away but looking at benchmarks for I/O schedulers (noop vs SIO), noop has lag but higher scores and SIO has very little or no lag with lower scores.

[Q] TF700 Slow or even freezes while playstore apps update

I have the TF700 for some time now and everytime one or multiple app start updating in the background the whole TF700 seems to freeze or atleast start to get hiccups. Does anybody else have any problems like this?
I'm using the original rom.
I think it had to do with the I/O issues. Theres plenty of threads on it.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
I would agree, its because the terribly slow IO, when its writing the updates its lagging because its running out of memory which its trying to use as a buffer to hide our horrible IO. There are some tweaks that try to help it but it pretty much involves destroying your manufacturer warrenty so make sure you have an aftermarket warrenty first

Postive and Negative with Jelly Bean Thread.

Hi ! I want to hear your opinions about the new Jelly Bean update. What is positive and what is negative with the new update. Also what are your opinions about the new functions .
I noticed that there is another Thread about this. My mistake. I was typing for too long.
i have use JB in a few devices already, Galaxy nexus, Galaxy S3, Nexus 7, Asus prime TF201. I can tell you right away that this version is the worth of all. the opening and closing animation of apps is jerky. Not smooth at all. The task manager to close app is always butter smooth in other devices when you scroll up and down, here is jerky. Not sure if this might add because of the 1920x1200 resolution which is 4x higher than 720p and require more cpu power. This is kind of disappointed, i really starting to think that this resolution is to much for a tegra 3.

Are you on the balanced or performance mode? From what I understand the modes that save battery can csuse this with JB very noticeably sometimes.

balance and performance. both setting perfomance about the same. tab on the setting icon, or browser icon, the new animation for JB is suppost to be butter smooth but in this version of JB for our TF700 is jerky. scrolling and pinch to zoom seem find for a jb rom. Can wait for zeus to grab this and do his magic.

Ye. I find this quite disapointing to. Its not smooth at all. I think the full hd res is to much to handle for the tegra3
From my units standpoint it is not rooted and never has been the upgrade has made it much faster. I now understand what 'buttery smooth' means. No issues at this point with the download, upgrade, app loading or functioning afterwards. Wifi works as does gps. I use Boat as my browser and its significantly faster. Not quite as fast as my iPad3 but pretty close. Scrolling web pages is without lag now at least for me. Thank you Asus for a GREAT upgrade.

I'll let you in on a little secret. Get simple image live wallpaper. It causes no lag (multipicture lwp sometimes does) and it has no cropping either. You can even set different images for portrait and landscape modes.
I had similar jerkiness and slowness after the initial update. After reading the TF201 forums I was ready to do a factory reset right after updating. Since then, I've restored all my apps and widgets, regained root, downloaded lots of things in the background while using the tab etc.. I'm happy to report It's buttery smooth. If you haven't done a factory reset after upgrading, do yourself a favor and give it a try.
Also, I had an interesting bug. My SD card wasn't recognized until after I rebooted the 2nd time after my factory reset. It's working fine now.. it even seems to be reading/writing faster than before.
positive - we can now take pics while recording with the stock camera.
negative - the stock camera has a bit of a hiccup.

I don't get any reloading problems. Multipicture lwp gets this problem. Simple image wallpaper does not.
Was the Screensaver option always available under Asus Customized Settings? I dont remember it being there.
Pretty cool that the notifications now show the sender and subject for outstanding emails.
So far so good. The installation went flawlessly! Seems to be much more smooth! Testing-IP

1. Love the fact that we can pinch and expand the notification bar to see more details
2. The ability to just say "Google" from within search and it automatically prompts you to voice search is some next level sh*t!
3. System bar lock FINALLY
4. Overall though its not as "buttery" smooth as i imagined it would be, maybe doing a factory reset will help?
5. I dont know if anyone has checked but did they update supernote and polaris as well?

1) I have the no icons on home screen bug until you flip back and forth.
2) Cool tool only shows in portrait mode for me now.
If you run into problems with apps and performance, I suggest to perform a factory reset. That should clear things up and insure a clean Jelly Bean experience. Also since JB just droped this morning, don't expect it to be smooth. The new OS needs to settle before you can truly see a difference. Just wait at least 24 hours before you praise or complain about your experience. But for the meantime, I applied a cold boot after I noticed a bit of sluggishness. Seems to have fixed that. Ill probably do a factory reset if my apps act up though.

Jittery/laggy scrolling

Hi, I just got a OP6 on Friday and it really is an amazing device, but no matter what app I'm in, I get extremely stuttery/jittery scrolling. It happens in Settings, Chrome, XDA, basically anything that has a list or scrolls. Is there any way to fix this? I'm on OxygenOS 5.1.9, I've tried rooting and installing kernels and I keep having the same problem. Is this a known issue? Because it's kinda ridiculous to pay over $500 for a phone that scrolls worse than my 2 year old pixel. So if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
try doing a cache clean or fresh install because this isn't normal and it should run smooth like mine does.

I've done a full install from fastboot, but I'll wipe cache and see if that helps, thank you.
I noticed it as well.
Franco Kernel helped a bit, especially using Pixel launcher (which is buttery smooth on the Pixel 2)
But the phone isn't as smooth as a Pixel 2 or iPhone X in terms of scrolling inside apps or even launcher.
It shows some frame drops regardless if rooted or not. Seen the same on another OP6 (mine has 128gb his has 64gb).
Clearing cache probably won't help.
Here's to hope the Android P update helps.
And use Samsung Browser instead of Chrome.
Way smoother

I really hope the Android p update helps. On 8.1 my pixel was laggy, kinda similar to the OP6, but after P, it's the smoothest phone I've ever had, definitely hopeful. I'll see about Franco kernel, I'll try it after work, thanks for the suggestion!

maybe its because i never owned a pixel that i cant see the jitter but i came from a galaxy with touchwiz so i think this oneplus is butterly smooth
Definitely agree also seeing jittery scrolling, custom kernels do help a bit but it's still there.
My 120hz iPad Pro is to blame, everything else seems really bad now!
Yh, you definitely have to see it in relation to other devices. Me coming from Touchwiz devices, the phone feels amazing, but knowing how buttery smooth an iPhone X is or Pixel 2 was, it's not that amazing anymore.

I thought it weas just me but I notice the jittery when scrolling slowly in chrome or the android central app. Its not bad, but noticeable.
Test
This has been present in every OnePlus device since the 3/3T. It's an Oxygen OS issue.
But it's good that more people are finally noticing it, as there's a chance that it'll be fixed... You'll just have to pay for the OnePlus 7 to get that fix
Even a Samsung S8 has smoother scrolling sadly. It's quite annoying. Using a different browser isn't a solution, as I rely a lot on Chrome anyway, but it also runs smoothly on many Android One devices such as the Nokia 7 Plus.
The P beta had the same poor scrolling performance, but hopefully they at least try to fix it for the final version. It's the least smooth device I've used in the last 2 years, but also the fastest... So you can kinda see where their priorities lie. They'd take an extra 0.049ms faster app opening time over 60fps scrolling.
Hi all, I came from a series of Xiaomi Phones (Redmi, MiMax etc.) - and I find the scrolling very smooth. Maybe just some devices have this problem? I have hovewer jittery backlight when in night mode (see my other post) which is bothering me quite a bit
I remembered this being a hot topic before. Wasn't the "solution" to set the CPU governor to be Conservative instead?

Apparently not anymore because that made it a bit worse lol. Considering selling the device because it's kinda ridiculous to have top specs and such poor scrolling performance.
I'm having no scrolling problems... And I had the pixel 2 XL and that **** was laggy.
Same problem here, been jittery since day one for me, and I got mine as soon as it released. Was thinking about returning it, but then decided that it was probably due to my over-sensitive eyes. The smoothest rom that I have tried was OmniRom. It's actually a decent rom, but single touch responsiveness was bad for me. I would sometimes have to touch the screen a few times just for the touch to register. Right now I'm using franco kernel in performance mode with fsync disabled on RiCE 4.4 and it's a little better.

Came around with these settings while using profile gpu rendering:
Dynamic Stune Boost 1
GPU governor: cpufreq
What that basically does is boosting the CPU slightly more while touch input and kinda syncing gpu boost with the now higher CPU boost.
According to the Profile GPU overlay the stutters are greatly reduced, especially in lawnchair Launcher (App drawer animation) and Facebook.
All using Franco kernel V4
Worst kernel I've tried was Smurf kernel with some extreme frame drops.
