The first thing I did with my DC when I got home was root it. The next thing I did was install Titanium Backup. Here is a list of bloatware that I have safely frozen using Titanium Backup. I’m sure this is not a complete list, so feel free to contribute.

Howfore didst thou rooteth thy phone?! Didst thou install lated OTA updateth??
I cry out of great sadness that my phone is currently unrooted. Great, horrible soul crushing sadness since root won't work on ED2. Oh woe! WOE!
I haven't installed the ota. I used adb to root.

You can unfreeze it later if you prefer. Just uninstall it. Good riddance

Completely removing the files/apks can prevent you from getting future OTA updates, where freezing them with Titanium Backup is like removing them, but if you thaw them out, they return and you can still get OTA updates.
Okay, gotcha. If I've installed Firefox, is it safe to freeze Browser?

Freezing backup assistant causes force closes for me since it keeps restarting itself. Everything else worked great tho, thanks.
Frozen but still showing up
So I froze a bunch of apps in tit back but it seems like a lot of the links to them are still visible... for instance i froze daily briefing but when i long press on a home screen to add a widget i can still see all four of the daily briefing apps. Same goes for icons when i long press to add applications to my home screen. Is this just a failure by tit back to clean up these items from everywhere?

The same thing happened to me, but a reboot fixed it.
Just picked up the Charge (for my daughter) and I've not used Titanium Backup at all, but presume its easy to figure out freezing apps. My question is why freeze vs delete? I've pretty much always used CM 6 or 7 so this is something I haven't had to deal with before.

Not Flaming but this question was answered on the previous page. There is only two pages, you should read them.
When I freeze car cradle my dock no longer works. On my droid when I added a new car home app it gave me the option to make that default when docked, but I don't get a message for the Charge. Anyone know a way around this? I really want to use my car dock but car cradle is complete crap.

Sorry if I seem dense to you, but I don't really know what 'freezing' is. That's my question I suppose. Why one (freezing) vs the other (deleting)? Freezing leaves them on the phone but keeps them from being visible/loading? I certainly read the prior page, but someone saying 'I froze these files' and someone else saying, 'just delete them' doesn't really help me out much, hence my question. Just trying to understand something new. Is there a good reason to freeze something rather than just delete?
Edit: Nevermind. Still kinda wondering just what freezing does, but tibu is pretty self-explanatory in its operation.

Yeah, I was just re-reading the first page again (for the third time) and saw that. I do not understand how I missed it. My fault. Thanks.
You can also just rename the file extension that you want to remove/delete. What I do is just rename the file from .apk to .bak. Then I move them all to a folder named system apps on my sd card. That way if I need them in the future I can just move them back to the system folder on the device and just rename it back to .apk. I don't like depending on a program to do it for me, because there have been instances where Titanium has screwed me when restoring a file. Just my opinion and to each their own but it is another alternative. I use Root Explorer to do this. You don't have to move the file either, you can just rename the .apk extension to .bak and just restart your phone and the app will not load.
Regardless be sure to restart your phone so that the apps do not load after making changes.
did i freeze something important?
after i froze everything on the list (on page 1), i rebooted my phone. Now it's stuck on the boot-up animation screen.
Edit: I froze TWLauncher 2.2.1 without using an alternate launcher. Am I screwed?

If you want to get out of the boot screen, I would suggest you start all over. Either reflash the through ODIN, or go into the Samsung factory recovery and wipe user data and wipe cache. For instruction on how to go into recovery on Droid Charge, there's a instruction in Droid Charge Forum in Android Central under the sticky in Charge Rooting, Room and Hacks by DroidXcon.
Merry Holidays all!
Just like the title asks: what do you use for backing up Homescreen/HS apps.
I like to clean wipe for custom Roms and use TiBu for apps/data mostly. I do use it for a couple systems apps, but thats about it. However, no matter what, I can't get my apps and folders restored to Google Launcher/Home screens.
Is there a way?? Thanks

3rd party launchers like Nova or Apex got this function build in and if I am not wrong, if you install Google Launcher afterwards it will ask you to import from other launcher (?), that would be one way. I am not aware of any other.
Google Now Launcher does not allow backup up and restoring of homescreens to storage or from other launchers, at all. Only most other launchers have such functionality.
If you have Xposed, however, the XGELS module (I think it also needs premium via an in-app purchase) lets you backup and restore homescreen data (excluding widgets) of Google Now Launcher to your internal storage. This is the only way.
I was afraid of that. Thank you. Have a great day.

My google now launcher asked me to restore from my home screen (stock android I think) once I installed clean the factory image. It took all folders etc.
Hence not sure if u could load from 3rd party to stock android somehow?

Oh yeah. That's if you have app data synced to Google, then it might sync that too.
But, no way to export/import/store it yourself except with Xposed.

Thanks.. I'll do a sync before a factory reset next time and see how it goes. I've been trying out Nova Launcher too. Strange Google doesn't have this feature built in...
Hi. I would like to explain what i want to achieve and maybe some of you guys can help me out.
I am on stock Nougat with my S7. I've tried lineage and some other roms but I am not very satisfied.
I woulld like to stay on stock, but get the closest to stock as possible.
I would like to: Install Pixel Launcher and Assistant (i heard that might come soon anyway). I want to disable HW buttons and add on screen nav bar (i think maybe xposed can do that). I would like to flash google apps, like phone, messaging, etc.
Is this possible? I saw I can root my nougat s7 just not sure if what i want is achievable. Thanks!
Dan
The closest I've gotten without rooting or changing the kernel was doing the following:
- Buy and install Nova Launcher and find a backup on the web that will restore it to look like the Pixel.
- Install Pixel Icon Pack-Nougat Free UI
- Go to the theme store and install Pixelize or Material Design.
- Buy Package Disabler Pro from policedeveloper to disable Samsung apps (no root required)
That's the closest to stock I got.
Why not use the Google Now Launcher? Swap Samsung's stock apps for Google's and add in the pill widget etc if required too. Should be able to get close fairly easily.

That would only be a temporary solution given Google will remove it soon from the store.
I'm really tempted to get one of these to replace my s8+, but I'm not sure if I could go without an app drawer. Could I perhaps delete the default launcher using adb? Or would that crash the whole phone?
Edit: this is what worked for me, putting it on the top so other people can find it more easily.
1. Make sure you have Nova or third party launcher installed.
2. Enable usb debugging in developer options.
3. Connect to your computer via usb
4. Type in:
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.huawei.android.launcher
Optional if you use Gesture control:
5. Swiping gestures from the bottom of the screen won't work, if you want to use gesture controls, download fluid or edge gestures from play store (one is a freemium app and the other is a paid app). I heard Fluid is really really good and it's a sort of free, but I already have Edge Gestures because I bought it for my M5 tablet, so that's what I use instead.
6. Enable gesture app in accessibility services.
7. Type in special access in settings, and disable battery optimization for that app.
8. Go to battery option> battery usage, find gesture app, choose manually launch app and check all three options.
9. Go to recent apps, and tap the lock icon of gesture app to keep the app open in background, or the accessibility services will be revoked.
Hope it works for you.
Just use Nova and then set it as default.
does it not give you the option of using an app drawer like other Huawei phones?
It has but Huawei software is the worst and only drawback of Huawei/Honor phones. If you can ignore the EMUI crapware Huawei phones are the best. Before you could just flash a custom ROM. Now since Huawei no longer provide code, it's impossible. You can get code via third party software but as it's paid there won't be much development.
had the Mate 9 and never had any issues with the Huawei software personally. Dont understand the hate it seems to generate. If the Magic 2 is the same, although i see its been updated from EMUI 9 to MAGIC 2 software now then im very interested in this phone. Just waiting for either global versions to be available or a UK version if they decide to release it here
I tried, adb shell to disable official APP then you can use Nova but still impossible to set the default launcher. But you could still use nova Swip up gesture may be disable to just tap nova in the default setting can fix this . But swip up to show the recent can't work anymore
My Magic 2 has arrived. I installed Nova Launcher on it. At first I disabled the default Launcher but it kept coming back when I rebooted it. So I just uninstalled the default Launcher using ADB.
Another problem I ran into is that when using Nova Launcher, the swipe up gestures don't work, so I had to buy a third party gesture app. But the accessibility services keep turning itself off. I tried managing the app manually in Phone Manager but sometimes the gesture app would still get disabled. Lol.

Welcome to Huawei World. The Magic 2 is an expensive phone. So instead of this stuff I would advise you to stomach the software and enjoy it. Accessibility service is a long running problem of EMUI 8 & 9. So at this point, if you are up for it, I advise you to unlock your Bootloader via and third party software. They are paid, keep that in mind. After that flash any project Treble GSI. However keep in Mind you are Running EMUI 9 so it may not work. Alternatively your best bet is to hope for a change and stomach it.

Thabks for the reply. It must be an Honor issue I guess. I have the same gesture navigation app installed on my M5 tablet and I had no issues with it. Although I can't remember if that was before or after I flashed OpenKirin on it. It seems to be working now that I disabled auto optimization for my gesture app. Fingers crossed.
I think I've worked it out now. As long as I have the gesture app opened in the background and have the battery optimization set to manual for the app, the accessibility services won't be disabled. Which leads me to another minor problem of not being able to use the clear app function or I'll have to turn it on again. I think I can live with that for now, at least the behavior is predictable and I know what is causing the problem.

Good Luck Man. At this point buying from Huawei/Honor is a risky investment. I hope yours is worth it. With the bootloader fiasco development for these phones is non-existent. There is some hope it may change given the backlash but, well. Good Luck. From what I have heard the Magic 2 is a good phone. Enjoy it. As for me, I am gonna try to avoid these phone. But they are the only budget phones with Good Specs so I am stuck. And yeah. The issues always go away after flashing custom ROMs.

Yeah man. Im switching from a US unlocked s8+, that has no unlocked bootloader or any dev as well. I do miss my OnePlus though, but it's such a shame that the 6T has no LED notification nor an AOD. Otherwise I would've bought it even though the SD845 is half a generation behind the Kirin 980.

Notification LED Is a loss. But you can enable AOD via Root. Or you know, just flash a custom ROM.

Hello! I'm thinking about buying this phone. But as you have it, there are some things I need to know:
1) Does it have Google play installed? Or do you have to install it yourself? If so, was it difficult or you just enter the honor store, look for Google, and download it?
2) Too many Chinese phones have problems with third party apps notifications (especially WhatsApp). Like you don't receive the notification unless you open the app. Does it happen with the honor Magic 2 Too?
3) The always on display in most Chinese phones is useless cause only shows notifications from messages, phone calls or some Chinese apps like WeChat or QQ (no Gmail, Facebook, WhatsApp).
4) Although the phone has Spanish language, the virtual assistant only works with Chinese voice.
Thanks

1) It has Google framework preinstalled, and you would just need to download play store on Huawei app gallery. It's as simple as that.
2) I get WhatsApp messages instantly with the screen off.
3) The AOD is very basic. So it only has the time, battery level. The lockscreen shows you the song you're playing (on Google play music, but not Spotify strangely) and some shortcuts.
4) The phone has Spanish but the assistant is in Chinese only. I'm not sure if they've updated it are planning to update it. I uninstalled it via ADB so can't test that out for you.
I install nova launcher , and use adb command remove default launcher:
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.huawei.android.launcher
It's work! I can use nova launcher as my default launcher...
But there is a BIG problem:
The home key (or home gesture) don't work! It's mean I can go home at anywhere...
ps: Go "Huawei Store" install & run huawei launcher again can let stock launcher back without factory reset.

Try fluid gesture app + Nova
Sent from my HUAWEI NXT-DL00 using Tapatalk
I use edge gestures from the play store, it cost like $2 but I had it already because I bought it to use with my tablet.
You have to go to the recent apps page and lock it in, as well as ignore the battery optimization for it to keep working, otherwise emui will keep disabling its accessibility services access.

Because your are only disabling the apk, NOT uninstalling (which you can't without root). The gestures are only working with the build in launcher.

Did you manage to enable Google Assistant?
For me the app itself works but I can't enable "Access with Voice Match" to say "OK Google" from any screen, not sure why.
Hey There
Ok just unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP and Magisk and on the most recent updates
On previous one plus phones I used Custom Roms but sticking with stock this time
So restored apps via Google drive and just have a few issues
Scrolling through the settings and apps some I dont want to appear there. Example I have 3 Titanium apps?? On regular one Titatnium Back up add on and one Titanium Back up Pro. Another example is Nova Launcher and Nova Settings.
How can I remove some of these apps?
Using Titanium I tried to remove the apps I dont need like Google Play movies, Netflix etc. Removed them but still showing?. However when I try to remove others eg Digital Wellbeing I get failed to locate the apk file?? Do I have to remove apps and install from scratch rather than have back ups from previous phone(OP5 on old rom)
Using Magisk and want to install You Tube Vanced. I have downloaded this and can see its installed but cannot see it on the list of apps?
Final one simple thing trying to get the settings for phone. I pull down the top screen and I can see that the phone is set on vibrate but how can I change settings to silent, ring etc.
Still trying to figure the above out if anyone can assist some maybe DAH questions I should know but just seeking assistance
Cheers

You talking about the app drawer? If you have nova, you can hide anything you don't want to see through Nova settings. If you are talking about completely removing some system apps, find a debloater. Pretty sure there is one on here, and there is also xXx-nolimits magisk rom that can also debloat and add things (like YouTube vanced).
You might have YouTube vanced installed, but I believe you need to uninstall any updates to actual YouTube. Might even need to delete it entirely. Not too sure as Ive never used vanced as I don't see the point.
The switch on the side of the phone may be on vibrate. Try pushing it all the way up or down. Other than that, should just be in sound settings.
Yes, for Youtube Vanced you need to go into the app details for Youtube and uninstall all updates then uncheck the box for auto updates.
