Hello,
After updating to stalble Android 10 I feel that thscreen is showing the colors more yellowish than Android P.
Someone else has noticed this?

Go to screen settings, panel mode and choose amoled. or something like that. That will fix it.
The new calibration is probably more accurate. The default on Pie tilted blue. The "natural" setting on A10 is closer to the RGB standard and similar to the "adaptive" setting on pie.

The new "Vivid" one (default one) actually seems to be exactly the same as DCI-P3, so pretty accurate. The "AMOLED" advanced setting looks like the previous stock one.
My one plus 6, after updating to pie 10.3, colors are messed up. Screen calibration, night mode all greyed out i.e. not selectable... Badly need a quick solution to go back to original color setting options.

Thanks for this, I noticed my screen felt "off" after the update. Also the Facebook Messenger bubbles weren't as blue and I wondered why.
Hmm. I've not updated yet. My worry is that, while at release when the screen was reviewed the default colour profile (on pie labelled display-p3) was too blue, and DCI-P3 was ideal, over time my screen has yellowed itself due to inevitable amoled aging, and now I find the default display-p3 is accurate and DCI-P3 is far too yellow! The trouble with colour profiles on amoled screens is that they have completely different characteristics when the phone is new, compared to 18 months later.
So I hope there is still a profile that is the same as the old default display-p3 on pie.

I was trying to lower the brightness very low to test how it would affect battery drain and it seems that the phone won't let 3rd party apps lower the brightness lower than what you can set it to, in the phone's settings. I tried an app called timerrific that lets you schedule various settings changes, but the phone seems to be overriding it. When I set the brightness to go down to 15% via the app, it does go very dim, but then immediately bounces back up to lowest level the phone's settings let's you set it at. Also, I had auto brightness off and the power saving mode off.
Has anyone been able to get the phone to go to very low brightness?
Thats a good question and would like the answer too... to me, the lowest brightness which must still HOG the battery as sometimes it seems to drain very fast with usage (and I have it on the lowest setting)... seems overly bright. I would without a doubt use it at a lower brightness to conserve energy depending on what I was doing at the time.
hey maybe its just the screen that makes it look bright

Not sure what you mean? For example, if I set the brightness to go down to 5% through the app Timeriffic, the screen will dim down to where I can barely see anything, but then it immediately raises back up to the lowest setting you can set in the phone's normal settings, which seems to me to be about 25-30%.
Yep

This is actually correct, the screen is what makes the "Automatic" brightness setting on the SGS phones look brighter than their LCD brethren. As we all know, currently all AMOLED displays use some kind of Pentile Matrix. All HTC devices (The N1 included) currently use RG:BG Pentile Matrix.
Do a google search on: "RGBG Pentile" and Samsung's site details it.
The SAMOLED display Samsung has made uses a new Pentile Matrix called RGBW:
Do a google search on: "nouvoyance" and it's the first site (sorry for the odd instructions, won't let new users post links )
Using the new RGBW, a white subpixel is introduced on top of the standard RGB stripe. From my reading, this allows the screen to achieve the same resolution to the eye with 33% less subpixels and is a brighter display in the process.

Good explanation, but are saying that no you can't dim it to low levels because it makes it look brighter than it is? If so, I don't buy it. I see it being dimmed to a low level. It just doesn't stay there.
Aldiko reader can get the screen even more dim
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Also since there is less air gap in the new display, it is brighter.

This is just me speculating, but I'm thinking maybe the brightness setting is universal to android devices, except that it's calibrated to normal lcd. So the same voltage(or however they regulate the display brightness) on an LCD will look brighter on the Super AMOLED. For me, the dim setting on the auto-brightness seems too bright.
One thing I've noticed is I can take the brightness down to its lowest setting and it still seems bright..however on almost every phone I've used its like this.
The weird thing is on the Captivate I can open the browser, men then scroll down to settings and it has a brightness toggle there that takes it lower.

Yeah that does take it down lower than the home screen by a small amount. I put the browser brightness on the lowest setting and the global brightness on the lowest. Both auto brightness and power save are off. When I switch from the browser to the home screen, it brightens up a touch. So, it does go lower, but not all that much though, and it's only for the browser.

You can totally dim it more. In doing so, it will use even less power than an LCD screen at the same brightness setting.

Yeah, that's what I thought was cool about this type of screen, but I still don't know how to to dim it below the the lowest setting in the phone's control panel (which isn't very low). 3rd party apps I've tried don't really work, or they work, but the phone immediately raises it back up. Are you saying you've dimmed it down to where you can barley see the screen, like 5-10 percent? That's what I'm looking for confirmation on. If so, what app did you use?

I have used this app and seems to be pretty good, makes the brightness lower than system brightness.

i use brightness level too but the brightness goes back to the highest level when you plug the phone in and you cant use the presets on the widget anymore

I tried this app, and while it's a good app, it still doesn't make the screen go super dim. It looks to me like the lowest level (0%) is the same as lowest setting from the control panel. Zero percent should really be totally black.
Screen Filter
Here is your 100% working solution.
It doesn't work with the bright level, it applies a shade/filter to the screen. No matter what app you're using.
Set the bright to the lowest with your default system settings, because if you use a third party that goes below normal, with some apps like explorer, it set it to minimum allowed be system or whatever you set and then you will notice a setp up, shaded but a change.
I'm using it weeks ago and I found it's the best choice to suft the web at night. Also you can turn off softkeys lights

flash speedmods new kernel.
I just received my mix2s last weekend, and I have been using it for several days.
But through these days, I find it that when you turned off the automatic brightness, and the phone is displaying some dark or black contents, the brightness will get lower by itself, but when you turn to some colorful or brighter contents, the btightness will get back to normal itself.
so I'm wondering is there anyone got the same problem like me? and how can I turn it off? I mean, just don't turn down the brightness itself when showing dark contents.
Just checked it on my phone and you are right, screen becomes darker when you display dark content. Also with auto brightness disabled. Maybe it has something to do with the automatic contrast settings
Edit: I was right, if you disable automatic contrast the brightness stays like you set it

can you tell me where is the "automatic contrast" settings? seems that miui just deleted it
It seems to be a problem since the last mix 2. you can try search on google and on this forum.
There are few fixes you can do, just go over the search. I didn't do it myself because I just manually adjust the brightness myself. It is pretty annoying though.

Thank you I could not figure out what was causing this on my phone. When watching Youtube on lowest brightness at night the screen would fluctuate and it drives me crazy. Did not know that had something to do with it but now I know.
This is an old thread, but it's high on Google rankings, so I'm adding to it.
I think my main annoyance with this is the position of the sensor. If I'm typing or scrolling with my thumb, it seems I'm covering the sensor with my hand, so it thinks it's gone dark, so decreases brightness.
Disabling the auto brightness fixed it for me
(Using Resurrection Remix)
Hi all.
Is it me or the auto brightness of Pie works way worse compared to Oreo' one?
Too much bright inside, too much dark outside.
Just my impressions. Your thoughts?
Hints / Suggestions?

Definately worse that Oreo. The pie stable was just a rushed update
For me, the auto brightness initially was working on the extreme ends on pie, but after constantly adjusting it to suit my needs, adaptive brightness has worked it's magic and now for me works exactly as I'd want it to work.

Do you mean it is an official documented / mentioned feature the fact that leaving adaptive brightness on and still manually correct it, will lead in time to system recognizing your needs and slowly adjust accordingly?
Or is it something we're just guessing?

It is something that I have experienced after the update to pie.
The Pie update is just a friggin mess. Horrible brightness, time zone changing, bank apps not working, future alarm notifications, awful interface with the info cards and pull down menu notifications, websites loading strange, developer options nested in another settings menu, less options in the settings area, phone dialer button is green... I rolled back to 5.1.11 because of all the hassle.
And yes, I have bug reports and yes, I even tried it with a full wipe and fresh flash of 9.0. Between Google's design choices and the bugs, Pie is awful.
It has always been really bad for me.... Too dark all the time.... it doesn't really respond accurately and fast enough....

Go and read about it, ask google. I think now its called adaptive auto brightbess or smntg like that, just use it adjusting just will help it for auto feature to give the best screen brightness. Not everyone sees the same in the same light conditions. So this new adaptive brightness in pie is aiming to that. By adjusting it to your needs how u see it better in different light conditions it just helps phone to learn about everyones different vision/seeing levels.
But it just my opinionl

I have read about it and apparently it's a WIP. Doesn't make sense to put a WIP feature in a stable build. Don't get me wrong I love the OP6 and the pie release is ok but it was very much rushed out. They should have taken there time and released a pie build that was perfect. Beta builds should be used to make changes and fixes.
I have read articles that said using DC brightness on OLED/AMOLED screens can effect colors, particularly at low brightness. How are people finding it? I dont really care if it makes colours "less accurate" as long as they dont look weird
Looks fine to me. Barely can tell the difference.
Working well as described, couldn't tell the difference.

What makes you think the 3 / 3T screen is capable of DC dimming? Can every AMOLED screen support it?
First off, I don't notice any flickering when the screen brightness is low so maybe DC dimming isn't for me. I'm sure someone with a fancy color monitor device will probably post a technical breakdown of how it affects the screen, but I don't see any difference except in one scenario.
In bed I tend to set the brightness settings on the lowest and then turn on nightmode to dim the screen even further. If you have small white text with a black background such as the settings menu or Youtube in dark mode, some of the text fades into the blackness and is unreadable. Images with dark colors or areas will look weird because you won't be able to distinguish them apart.
I tried to take pictures to show a comparison, but the screen is so dim that it doesn't work.
Hey guys,
The screen tint on my 7 Pro is changing in certain apps after the screen has not been touched for a few seconds. The tint goes to a slightly darker, cooler tint, and goes back to a warmer, greenish tint when the screen is touched again. This has happened only in Telegram and YouTube so far, both in dark mode. It has not happened in any other apps or the launcher.
This is noticeable in all display calibrations. It is most noticeable when night mode is on.
Interesting to note that this does not happen in older versions of YouTube, only the newer ones with the line art icons.
DC dimming does not help with the issue.
Important info:
OxygenOS 10.3.6.GM21AA
GM1917
YouTube version 15.45.34
Telegram version 7.2.1
Anyone else have this issue? Any solutions?

Thank you so much, that does seem to be the issue. Used this guide to force 90 Hz. I did test with 60hz beforehand and there was no display tint shift, but forgot to mention it in the OP.
