Bad battery drain AGAIN! - Google Pixel 3 Questions & Answers

I have had my pixel for just 6 months...After maybe 3 months I had awful battery drain, I did a factory reset and it seems to be okay.
I just went away to tropics for 2/3 weeks and it was HOT. Now my battery life drain is abysmal. It may be just be coiisendence but wow does anyone else need keepin to do a factory reset? I don' really want to go to the effort to do a 2nd reset but anyway...Nothing in my battery stats shows anything hogging my battery life either.

try disabling digital wellbeing, huge improvements for me, also enable adaptive battery if it isn't already enabled but expect notification to not work properly for a week or 2.

Thx you for this amazing Idea!

After deleting digital wellbeing my batty life is amazing.
7,5h SoT and still have left 34%
Bevor my battery life was around 7-8h SoT without having something left.
Thanks you!

Hi, same issue here. even deleted digital wellbeing, no extra apps or anything. I am getting 2 hours screen on time. Also phone heats up when using camera. even did factory reset. Overnight it drains 20% on idle. I don't know what to do. Google support asked me to send in the device for check / replacement. Should I do that? Or is there a solution?

Yes definitely you should! If this happen something is wrong inside the phone

You think the battery time can be fixed if I flash a custom kernel?

So it turns out, google doesn't have warehouse in singapore. They asked me to contact their local repair representative to get it fixed :/

I delete it with adb, no root required.
"adb shell"
"adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.apps.wellbeing"

[Q] What is this thing that is eating my battery? com.android.systemui

Rooted -- Calkulin's Stock "Battery Saver" ROM -- Xposed Framework -- a few mods from XBlast Tools running.
First off, a Root Explorer search for com.android.systemui returned nothing.
What is com.android.systemui? I don't think I saw this in my usage until a couple of days ago.
Why does 31 seconds of CPU and 1 second of keep awake = almost TRIPLE the battery use of 12 minutes of screen-on time?????

It's the actual System User Interface. So most likely a combination of the rom and xposed are causing this. Also, dirty flashes of ROMs can cause this.
If you installed a new xposed module and noticed a battery drain the uninstall that module. Otherwise remove other xposed modules. You could always try a frew full wipe in recovery as well.
I have had this issue with mostly with dirty flashing which is my queue to do a clean flash. It's also possible if you restored any apps with data, like from Titanium Backup, could potentially cause this as well.

you got caught up in a lie, with buzzwords that are pushing for you to use the rom. theres no such thing as a battery saving rom. all those scripts/mods being used in the rom are just buzzwords. battery life is all dependent on how you personally use your device, how you set up your device, and your data/phone signal quality. a rom will not save you battery.
Thanks for the help, Tom. A visit to recovery to wipe caches and fix permissions and a reboot caused this -->
simms -- I do understand that. I am not really disappointed in my battery life -- and it doesn't seem to have changed much in the week that I've had the phone. But the reporting of it had, and that sort of alarmed me...

wow, your android system is high, even though only 10% battery was used. a reboot might fix that though. you might have to go through your settings and setup again, disable stuff like google location reporting/history(it wont disable your location).

I'm beginning to think the issue I'm having is in the reporting -- not actually a battery use problem. I've only had the phone a week, so my data base is small, but I haven't really seen bad battery life nor any real change in it. Even with some use and a bunch of time fiddling with the mods and stuff, I've yet to go to bed with less than 50% left. Mostly, more...
Here's the latest pics. com.android.systemui is back on top in the overview with 36% The detail page shows 39% and a whole 2 seconds of CPU. That just CAN'T be right...

Which battery graph? You mean the current usage graph I showed in the OP, from Battery Monitor Widget?
Re Bluetooth: I just leave it on, so when I step in the car it just connects to the car. No muss, no fuss, no bother.
I suppose I could try turning it off and see how much battery I save. I know with my previous phone (EVO4G) the point at which I started leaving the bluetooth on all the time didn't change my battery life to any noticeable extent.
Here's battery monitor widget current use. The EVO idled at 70 - 95 ma. This one does seem to draw a lot more at idle. I don't know what's "normal."

Not very interesting. It keeps resetting, every time I plug in to USB to transfer the screenshots to my mac for posting here. I'm not leaving it plugged in very long -- I just move the pics and unplug it. I unplugged it this morning at 7:30 AM. It's now almost seven hours later and I'm at 93%. That ain't bad. It's a gradual descent -- no big drops like the one in your post.

Mine stats those are from my nexus 7 2013, Sot of around 4 and still 55% battery left.
I just showed u for sample. A simple restart should fix as simms told
I m on stock rom with x blast tool never happened with me....u can try to use ur phone in safe mode and see...I know its a system app but u can give a try with bluetooth off. Or flash a diff rom and see
If your phone is vibrating a lot and you have extra UI elements installed this seems normal.
When you only use a small percentage of the full battery smaller drains appear large.
Bit off topic, but have you thought of using WiFi to move your files over? No messing with the wire and you could even automate the task.

S6 Battery Life - Terrible

I've been using the TMO S6 for a couple weeks and my battery life is terrible.
I have used greenery to hibernate everything I can, but as you can see in the attached picture the Android system is running overtime. I am lucky if I get 4 hrs of battery time. I also have the screen brightness set to less than 50%.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I have no idea why google thought it was a good idea to make battery stats less accessible in kitkat and above, so it's hard to find what causes it. It's probably easiest to factory reset and start clean and then start adding a few apps at a time, to see if you have one misbehaving one
Thanks. I am able to see the apps and utilization using gsam battery app, but unable to look at which android system apps are draining/running, as per the picture.

Factory reset then do these two. Also, disable T-Mobile bloat then use Greenify or Shut App.
I can get about a day and a half or two days battery with very minimal use. Don't expect to get more than 4 hours screen on time with this phone. Average is probably around 3.5-4.5 hours but you SHOULD get at least a full day's use with it.
Wifi calling pretty important for some of us

Using Snapchat with 4G, is location, nfc and bluetooth also turned on?
That would explain the bad battery.
Snapchat is a battery hog, maybe also using some facebook services that you allowed location on and GPS is turned on.
I get around 6h SOT on 4G constant, no facebook permissions and not using snapchat.
Hi,
Thank you for the fast response. I have location turned on because of snapmaps so I will turn that off and limit some of Snapchat's permissions. Is there anything else that someone can suggest please it is crucial for me that my phone lasts all day because eventhough I dedicate quite a lot to Snapchat I also need it for word and Samsung internet for at least 2h each day.
Thank you again
Reduce your time on Snapchat and it'll last longer.
I know Snapchat drains my battery but it's the standby that is killing me and I already have optimised the apps and have Greenify but it seems so far that turning off location has helped quite a bit with general SOT so thank you. Also with Snapchat I only used it for 45mins and I know that it drain a lot but it just goes down too fast in general.

You don't generally need Greenify in Oreo and Pie, since they optimise apps pretty nicely on it's own.
Rather turn on advanced optimizations, look at the permission you gave to different apps (those also include the Gapps, they take too much advantage of all the permissions you give to the each app).
Also do check if you have Wifi scanning always on in the advanced wifi settings, that also lessens a battery by a margin.
Face unlock also reduces the SOT of the phone in my practice.
Some of the advices I saw on the forum, and mainly they work for me.
Also, if Gapps are spending loads of battery go to the recovery and wipe cache, let it rebuild cache with a charge or two and see if there are any results.
Thank you, I have cleared the cache and am letting it rebuild. The SoT now actually seems pretty normal just my phone tends to use 2-3% and hour on standby which doesn't seem normal. Thank you for your help though.
@echo246 Bro,
Move to stock. I am also using 128Gb variant and unlocked, wiped and moved back to stock using mega-unbrick tool. I am on OB3 pie and now I am getting 5 hr SOT + 2 days standby time in pure stock. use the stock battery optimizing features. Don't use any 3rd party app since it need to run in the back ground always to get the result. But then the result will be reverse. Also, don't be too curious and open the phone every 1 minute to check weather the battery is draining or not. Let it sleep. Be patient for one or two full battery circle (100% to 1%) get the result. You will get it. I am also in dual SIM always on 4G, location is in "ON" status. No 3rd party apps using for battery saving. Pure stock is always best and most suitable for every phone. as it made exclusively for that phone
I opened "apps" under settings and went through each and every app + system processes after the end of the first battery circle and which ever process or app used more battery, restricted it's back ground battery usage also all the installed apps too. So now no head ache. getting whats app notification even after optimised it. Not using chrome. using samsung beta browser.
Hi,
Thanks this is great thanks. I need Google pay though I tried what the other suggested and 36mins SoT with 3 hours on standby with a normal brightness without power saving mode on is unheard of for me. Thank you so far but is there anyway to make Snapchat more efficient?

I don't know whether you have replied to me or not. Anyway I assume so and replying.
Sorry I am not a snapchat user. I knew that always Facebook and whatsapp consuming more battery since it is running on background. But if you do anything, you won't get proper notifications. Only way for restricting background service is rooting. So forget all those, let the phone run as it is. OP6 is having a learning system how we use apps and accordingly it will distribute the battery. So let it learn from your usage and it will restrict itself.
(Bro, I was also a SOT + standby hunter like you, but now learned to leave everything to phone itself by controlling unwanted eagerness)
Yeah thanks by limiting the WiFi settings on not to scan and turning off location I have amazing standby now and my SoT without even having power saving on is a lot better now. Most of my problems come from Snapchat anyway but they are rewriting the very old and slow app ATM. Thank you
I have analyzed it and it turns out it is just Snapchat while using it 30 mins of using it and I'm down to 77% and I have used nothing else. Hope that snap Inc get the fix in faster coz they started the rewrite of the android code a year ago so hopefully it is done soon.
Some days I get 15hrs SOT without charging for 3 days. It all depends on how heavily your using the device
I also guess it depends on what apps you use because yesterday I had to do lots of research on my phone (I am a student which is why I need good phone battery and also why I use snapchat so much) and without power saving mode on I used 7% battery an hour (on Samsung Internet). My standby is now amazing because greenify just force closes snapchat now whenever my phone is off and when using snapchat away from home I turn location off (snapmaps) and used every optimisation for it possible. This has fixed that problem really well thank you. Yesterday I used snapchat and Samsung Internet and Excel and YouTube quite a lot and I got 5hrs SoT with only using power saving below 50% and with 14hrs standby. This therefore concludes that snapchat is a killer for every single android phone in existence (verified this on my old S6, my friends S6 edge, a S7 edge, a OP 5 and a Huawei P20 Pro). Thank you for all your help and if someone finds a new way to further improve this, then please also share your trick

I don't have anything special enabled. I just turn data off when I'm not using it, I turn location off when it's not needed. This also includes me playing Clash Royale for at least 3 hours a day sometimes more. When you're using SnapChat and your data you're also using your camera and location. GPS is one of the most battery hogging pieces of hardware on your phone. Right now I'm pushing 6 hours of SOT and I haven't charged my phone in over 24 hours and it's looking like I have 13 more hours left on my battery.

Getting below average battery life on brand new phone

As mentioned on the title, do you guys know what I should do? I'm on the latest stable update. I just got the phone couple of days ago.
I was thinking to do a factory reset and download each app manually instead of going through backup stuff? Idk if this will help.

I would turn on adaptive battery to begin with and get BBS to find out which app is draining the battery before you go through a factory reset. How is your standby time overnight? It should be around 0.5 - 0.8% / hour.

That should not be. Get better battery stats and figure out what is waking your device with screen off. Disable it or get the eff rid of it. It's probably one app so find it. I had some stupid app draining 1% per hour idle. Bye bye. You'll get it and then squash it.

I'll try that but if I remember correctly, I did at some point download it and nothing was shown to be draining the battery or waking the device except for high usage by Google services as it always seems and couldn't narrow it down at that time.
I'll give it another shot and see.

I look at alarms and partial wakelocks mostly. You'll find something errant other than the system services which everyone has. Shoot for 0.7% / hour max. I mean sometimes something goes awry and I have to reboot to clear it out. Do a reboot before unplugging at full charge then go 7 hours or so and see what you get unplugged. Screen on time is nonsense so don't pay attention to that. The battery isn't stellar but it is sufficient.
With pixel phones I've learn to live without root, customROMS, short battery life and lag here and there.
To love Android I have to accept or sacrifice those little things.
I'm enjoying the camera, regular updates and the size of my pixel 3.
If you are looking for best battery life, pixel is not an option.

Question Rog Phone 5 Battery Drain

So I've been using the Rog 5 for a week or so. I've noticed that ANDROID SYSTEM has a massive battery drain.
No matter which apps I use, wether it's YouTube, Chrome, WhatsApp or any gaming app, Android System always had a massive battery drain. This can't be normal can it?
I installed Better Battery Stats & Gsam Battery Monitor and found that Android System has got many Wakelocks too. I've attached screenshots for this, if anyone could help resolve these Wakelocks that would be amazing. Also if anyone could help to lower the Android System battery drain please.
On the better battery stats you will notice over 500 Wakelocks in 9 Hours ! Over 3 days that number is over 2000 Wakelocks
On my first full charge i have 6hrs screen on time and 40% left still cycling the battery for maximum performance. It would be interesting to see what apps can be disabled safely and any other battery saving tips people have here.

Dont know whether this is happening only for me. I also tried manual battery calibration by draining the battery and charging till 100 after that i even deleted batterystats.bin file manually. Still 8 or 9 hours max.
Should i change to any other modes in specific? Like i am currently in dynamic mode. Should i tweak into advanced and reduce anything? Or you guys are having a sot of 11 hours in dynamic mode only?

How do I access the root folder?
Also in location settings make sure you have WiFi scannibg off (it will say 'search for WiFi networks, even when WiFi is turned off') you'll find that in location menu. And if you go to developer options you'll come across something which says "Mobile data always active" turn that off too as it wastes battery for no reason.
Last but not least, go to Zentalk forum, Google it, it's Asus help forum and create a thread on there explaining you have high battery drain from Android System. They will fix it if we all report it
I have unlocked bootloader and rooted my my phone. With Root explorer or any other explorer with root permission you can access the folder.
I will disable that mobile data in developer options.
Thank you
I fully charged to 100% left overnight unplugged network standby took 2.5% and Android system was 0.2% and lost all together a total of 3% battery overnight. I think it needs to sleep better than that.
I updated to latest ww global firmware but mine is tincent version if i factory reset will it still stay on ww firmware? i think i need to do a reset. Also how do you do a hard reset via recovery on this is it safe?

It should lose 0% overnight. Android system is the culprit. No you won't lose WW after hard reset and regarding factory reset, I did it through settings as don't know how to enter recovery
Well unless someone reports it they wont fix it so best people report in as stated above ASAP.
