U12+ worth buying? - HTC U12+ Questions & Answers

I am looking to possibly get a new phone. I used to be heavily into rooting my phone back in the day with the older HTC phones. I saw that I could get an unlocked HTC U12+ for $499 on the HTC website. Is the U12+ a good phone? How is the build quality? How is the software/fireware? How often is the U12+ updated? Is it worth buying? Or should I get a different brand of phone? Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

I think i had something like 50/60 smartphones in last 3 years, I bought mine for 220€ I'm not kidding don't know what the seller thought putting It so low but i did the best bargain of my Life and with this phone i stopped changing phones like a mad. For me this phone has everything, with pie even a good battery Life, it's not the best battery Life out there and in mine touchscreen Is sometimes i can suffering a bit from mistouch ( maybe this was the reason behind the price of mine Who know! ) But apart from this 2 aspect and updates imho can still be bought for 350/370 euros, 400 or 500 it's no. Just wanted to share my esperience but i know everyone has his priorities.
This phone has, ip68, notification led, good display qhd, Crazy good audio, 5 microphones, good form factor not too big or heavy, good battery, Crazy good cameras/videos with ois+eis and still competes with the best out there today, go and check photo tools on gsmarena, i did myself and it's there. Noone ever judge or put attention to It but a it has powerful flash too.
For capacitive buttons it's only a matter of habit, after One day or two you feel good and it's Better touch gently than try pressing like Crazy something that cannot be pressed, even with a full cover on.

One and only REAL issue is updates. Htc simply suck at updating their flagship phones. The other smaller issue is the buttons with a case in landscape mode, they can be a bit retarded. Otherwise its like SIRKRA said, cameras are insane, audio aswell

[Q] potential Sensation user-Critical question. To buy or not to buy?

Hello to everybody in the communtity!
I am interested in buying this device. However, after spending 2 hours reading through the touch screen responsiveness problem in the Sensation General thread, I became hesitant and skeptic to purchase it. Can you say anything that will alleviate and mitigate my fears? Is it safe to buy 100% or will I have to replace it after a month or so? Do I have to ask the seller for a specific model that does not have the aforementioned issues?
Thank you in advance for aiding me in the quest to replace my crappy Samsung Omnia which I solemnly detest
Well I use to have the problem but only sometimes when swyping screens.I no longer have it and had totaly forgotten about it I doubt the problem is still present in new batches. But my phone is very responsive now
Sent from my Sensation using XDA Premium App
Is it because you used some kind of fix for the screen, or it just magically disappeared?
even if there is 10% chance I get the problem it's a no-deal for me. I cannot invest that much money to a flagship top-tier phone if it instantly malfunctions... Can anybody else alleviate my concerns?
Its a great phone. If by chance you do end up in the 10 percent their is a fix on the forums some where you just have to do a search. I would say get the phone from the support in these forums.
32 custom built roms and counting. Noob proof step by step rooting and unlocking. Uncountable ways to modify the phone. Every phone has its problems, but I can honestly say that I haven't found a problem that didn't have a fix on these forums.

Tell them you want try out the phone you want to buy before you pay for it.
I never suffered any kind of problem from the screen being unresponsive, but the only problem (if you wish to call it a problem, in my case it's not) is the slightly weak WiFi signal, if I am 2 rooms away from the router the signal drop significantly, and there is creaking on the bottom right of the phone other than that the phone is perfect, most ppl changed their back cover and the creaking sound was gone.

Yes but the reports on the touchscreen issue mention that it starts occurring after a week or so
Any further feedback?? I am looking for a reliable handset... should I go to an alternate device?
Brilliant device, didn't have any problems with it.
I was also sceptic, but when i bought it, all my prejudices disappeard..

its a risk one has to take mate,
i know a few of my friends have to return their iPhone4 due to various hardware defects.
nothing is perfect in the smartphone world sadly
but it makes our life easier with a community such as XDA
so welcome
My advice...Buy! Or go and read at the Samsung Galaxy S2 tread and read about that phone...you only read the negative items/ problems here...
About every phone you can read tons of info, at the end of the day you will be confused which phone to buy as they all suffer from little probems.
There are a lot of Sensation owners out there who are happy with their phone and dont have problems with it...I am one of them!
Have my sensation almost 4 weeks now...its rooted, S-off and I got rid of the Orange rom!
As already stated in this tread, if you have problems with your device you will find a solution here at XDA...
No problems here either, had since June no issues at all. Great phone.

You shouldn't buy it because as technology goes something always comes out better a month later. I haven't had problems and I think it's a excellent phone but you should look for what's about to come out next.
You do know you get a one year manufacturers warranty with a new phone, right?

Yeah I guess there is warranty but I read that HTC does not recognize that problem. And even then, in Greece HTC service is not that good with a single service center in the whole country and huge delays in product replacement...

I would say do not buy the HTC Sensation.
It has to many serious flaws/issues for a flagship phone and yes, in my opinion the issues on the Sensation is more frequent then on other models.
I read alot in here and also among Swedish Android forums and I've owned not less than 3 faulty Sensations in about a weeks time till I gave up and asked for a refund instead. The Sensation is a sloppy job from HTC in mine (and MANY others) opinion.
The biggest issues seems to be:
1. Dust under the screen (one of mine was switched because of that. Appeared after about 2 days of use. In an office enviroment.)
2. Unresponsive touchscreen issues/Grounding problems.
3. A battery cover that does'nt fit the phone to well. Makes creaking sounds and makes the vibrator sound like a dying cat (one of mine had that one to). And seriously? Who in the world want to use a "fix" (read: put a folded post-it note between the phone and the cover to make it tighter) on there 4-500$ phone!
4. Issues with the hardware buttons, loose, unresponsive etc. (Had that one aswell. The volumerocker almost fell off)
5. The "wifi-deathgrip". This one I've never experienced!
6. Bad microphone/s and/or crackling speaker. An big issue amongst many it seems.
Ok so there you have my opinion
Trust me, I TRIED to love the Sensation. I've ALWAYS liked HTC phones. But this time, for a flagship phone, I think they've messed up.
Every phone has it's problems, thats for sure though. It just seems to me that the Sensation has a higher frequency in there troubles with this specifik phone and I just don't have time for homemade fixes, returning device after device etc. Especially not for a newer phone as expensive as this one.
For a phone that lives on it's "well built" reputation, I demand more. Sure the Sensation FEELS well built and sturdy, but thats just the feeling. The whole "uni" design just seems to vulnarable......
Well atleast now you got another opinion!

[Q] Do you regret buying your Sensation?

I'm trying to decide which mobile to buy and I've narrowed it down to the Sensation and the Galaxy S 2, I've had the HTC Desire which was fine but more recently I've had and returned 3 HTC Incredible S handsets. All 3 suffered with signal drop on the O2 network here at my home (the Desire seemed OK).
After looking through the Sensation forum, I'm getting concerned that HTC may be loosing a grip as far as standards go?
Now that you've owned your Sensation, what do you think? Would you still buy the Sensation if you were once again in the Market for a phone?
Not really
What only makes me ever say I regret buying it is the spec increase only mere months after it's release. I love the phone, a few software problems, but that isn't a deal breaker. I was an early adopter and haven't really had any problems with it. Screen is great, no scratches, feels great in the hand. However between the two I wouldn't know what to pick. I love my Sensation and also want a Galaxy SII. It is really up to which one you can get your hands on. From what I can tell there is a better screen on the SII, but I prefer the resolution on the Sensation. However the Sensations speaker isn't fantastic, but I use headphones anyway so no big deal. Battery isn't too bad on the Sensation. I can easily get a days worth out of it. So to answer your question no I don't really regret the purchase.
I have no regrets. I have had to return two of them but the third one was perfectly fine. I had no problem returning them cause it never costed me a dime and I was never without a phone. If I were in the market today I wouldnt get it though. I would go for the Amaze. Also I am not a fan of Samsungs. They feel too light and cheap for me. I like my phones to feel like a solid piece of hardware and Samsungs just dont.
Thanks for the replies so far, much appreciated. I did actually post a similar thread in the Samsung forum a day or so ago.
I also posted my list of pros and cons over at the Hotukdeals site, would you say it's a fairly accurate list?
Galaxy S 2 Pros
S Amoled screen, great viewing angle
Better battery life than HTC?
Cons Plasticky/cheap finish?
Sensation Pros

Build quality S
ense interface (OK, maybe just a plus for me)
Cons

My Battery life is just fine. Never had dust under my screen. The viewing angles are actually pretty dang good. Bright whites was out to yellowish but all the others hold fine even to extreme angles.
The SAMOLED screen on the TMobile GS2 is bigger but lower resolution causing everything to be really big. Perhaps root will fix that.
I am SERIOUSLY loving InsertCoin 3.2.7 which is a Sense 3.5 rom. The only Rom I've ever tried that was nearly as smooth and fast was an AOSP Rom on my mytouch 4g. It's like buttered silk AND I have 200mb free ram.
My ONLY con now is the app storage or lack therof. Even the low volume speaker was fixed via ROM and Volume+
I don't regret it. Too bad I have to say goodbye though....its a solid device with a lot of ongoing support and tweaks.

My main gripe about the Sensation is Sense 3.0. I've owned a heap of HTC devices and I'm just not sold on the new sense. There's an SGS2 on its way to me right now so I'll offer a more objective opinion when it arrives.
No regrets at all and it continues to rock with the Developers!
no regrets here at all. i have gone through alot of android phones through tmobile. i must admit this has been the best phone i have owned. If i was shopping for a new phone today i would go for the amaze over the sensation only bc of the higher specs. besides that this phone is amazing especially with CM installed. it felt like a brand new toy once i installed it
There is absolutely ZERO reason to get a Sensation right now (or ANY phone really), until the Nexus Prime details are (officially) revealed.
That being said, I also have zero regrets about purchasing the Sensation. It was hands-down *THE* absolute best phone for T-Mobile at the time and I've certainly loved using it for the past 4 months.
Bottom Line: If you're looking to purchase a smart phone in the near future, it would be foolish to not wait until the Nexus Prime is officially revealed. It has the potential to change the Android landscape, and while we don't regret OUR purchase of the Sensation, the Prime might make YOUR purchase an instant-regret. Just wait
I have to say yea i regret purchasing my Sensation. Not because of all the new Phones that are pretty much updated versions of it... but because of all the manufacture defects i've encountered.. such as dust build up around top and wedged in between the front camera that cannot be removed, Also randomly unresponsive screen due to static build up between the battery cover and pin. And the worst, a Screwed up headphone jack that decides to pause/play/skip music as well as make random calls whenever headphones are plugged in. Pisses me off that i need to carry an extra device (ipod) just so i can listen to music..
Im really conflicted as to what to do with my phone or whether i should switch to another device..
Samsung Galaxy S 2 has some great specs but the cheap flimsy plastic is a killer. (former Vibrant owner and hated the cheap toddler toy feel)
The HTC Amaze looks sexy as hell but at it turns out it has the same Battery cover design as the Sensation which will most likely lead back to Dust and unresponsive screen issues..
Hopes the Nexus Prime comes to tmobile and really hopes samsung doesnt screw it up by making it out of plastic so cheap that it makes a McDonald's toy look like a quality build

I'd definitely buy it again - I was also worried because of all the griping on this forum, but my Sensation's been perfect and it's the best HTC phone I've owned. Feels a lot better in the hand than the Galaxy S 2, has a better aspect ratio and (to me) a better, less over-saturated screen.
Plus, Sense 3.0 (with Android Revolution HD) is a dream to use.
I cant tell you how much I regret buying mine. Awesome hardware specs, huge screen, but HORRIBLE build quality and constant ongoing issues. In addition, Sense is just terrible and I do not think I will ever buy another Android phone that isnt bone stock with no carrier modifications. Its honestly not worth the headache waiting around for people to mod a ROM just so it can finally be up to par with a vanilla Nexus type phone IMO.
I bought my Sensation when it first came out in June. I have zero regrets buying it and it has been a great phone to date. I haven't really had any issues, although now I believe I have some dust under the screen. With that said, I still have no issue buying it then as it was the best phone on the market at the time. There is also tons of development for it - which I really like. I was actually looking at giving my wife the Sensation and upgrading to either the GS II or Amaze. I went and checked out both of those phones today and have to say I was underwhelmed. The GS II is big and has a plastic feel to it. I also noticed a lot of lag when scrolling thru the home screens and felt my Sensation (running ARHD ROM) was more responsive. Also, not really a fan of Touch Wiz. The Amaze is nice, and it is very similar to the Sensation. However I am not sure if it will get rooted (quickly) and the amount of development that it will get. Not sure if it's worth the upgrade.
My 02¢....hope it helps.

Absolutely regret it. Sense was nowhere near optimized for the Sensation and it shows in the way that the fastest custom Sense ROMs for us are still a little bit slower than the newest stock HTC devices that run Sense 3.0. I will never buy a LCD screen phone again because it is worthless in the sunlight and is in general washed out in light. The speaker is bad; ROMs or Volume+ apps that barely increase the volume do not fix the fact that it is a hardware problem.
That said, I do enjoy tinkering with and using my Sensation. I still think it is perhaps the most beautiful looking device of the year, I enjoy the fact that we have decent dev support on here, and the screen res is enjoyable. I'm also really waiting to see what this phone can do with ICS and when CM7 comes out of Alpha or whatever (I'm very nitpicky and will only install full on ROMs that only have minor issues). In that sense, I'm enjoying what I can with this phone even though I wish I would have waited for a better one (but heck, I was put in a hard position because I had to get a new phone at the time the Sensation came out and it was the best Tmob phone available). But, if I was in the market for a new phone right now I would absolutely wait for the Nexus Prime. The SGSII seems like a good step up, but I would hesitate to get a phone that isn't a 100% upgrade over the Sensation (some things like the screen res are a step down).
I regret it. If I knew as much about this phone as I know now... I would've keep my Glacier.
Thing is a piece of crap, really. Sure, it has top specs... but software is a mess and build quality is dissapointing. I wanted to love it but I can't. Ready to sell if for whatever I can as soon as next Nexus device drops.
Sorry HTC, you really dropped the ball lately and I'm going to speak with my wallet from now on.
ZERO regrets.
I love this phone.
Amaze might be a slightly better hardware but it's ugly as F to me.
only thing XE offers is the headphones basically. Software we can get, no big.
having said that, if you are in the market now for a new phone I'd say wait til Nexus Prime is officially announced.
we don't know the full details yet but it should be a beast.

[Q] HTC One X vs Nexus

Hi guys,
not sure if I should post this here
The Galaxy Nexus is out in South Africa and I wanted to buy it but then I came across the HTC One X (I loved my HD2 but I hated my Sensation so I got a Note that I loved but it's just a bit big for me)
The Nexus looks really good. But I would like the Quad core and Tegra 3 chip but seems that HTC made another bad phone? I don't want to hassle with a lagging phone or freezing applications.
Which phone is the most stable and comparing it in a few ways, the best?
Comparing like Menu Speed (and not stock vs stock but rather some applications and emails and so on), the GPU vs GPU and so on?
I did look at some reviews and looks like the Nexus has a better camera even if it's just 5mp but the LCD seems better on the HTC...
Both are (or at least will be) good phones. The thing to remember with the One X is that it has only been out just over a week and it has and will have some bugs. HTC are usually pretty good with their support for new ROM releases so I'm sure it will become the flagship handset it deserves to be in a short time
Had both handsets overall prefer one x definitely for the following
reasons.
Looks, design and build one x superior and lighter.
Camera one x again. In some conditions I found nexus pretty poor in comparison.
Browser one x.
Phone calls one x.
Email one x.
Screen prefer one x.
Battery life one x, nexus was very bad.

lol... not in South Africa man
even if I browse their website to check for product support on the One X it doesn't work hahahaha...
Well stable would be the galaxy nexus however that's because the one x has a few issues here and there but all software issues which are being worked on and will be fixed in the upcoming patch, unfortunately HTC are being annoying and won't give us an eta, long-term wise one x is what you should go with hope this helps

I'd recommend you try and find somewhere to have a look at them both. I was in the same position as you but after comparing the screens side by side I decided to get the HTC one x. Personally I think the screen is probably one of the most important features of a smartphone.
i also been having a hard time choosing a phone even after having the one x and a couple of replacements i still going to keep this beauty...it will still hold it 's value and it is overall one beautiful phone to have
The HTC OneX beats the Galaxy Nexus in almost all categories (except timely updates).
What you have to keep in mind is it's better to get a phone with crappy software than crappy hardware since software can be fixed while hardware is unchangeable. I'm not saying the Galaxy Nexus have crappy hardware, it's just that the OneX has better hardware overall: better screen, better processor, better GPU, better storage, better camera.
Also, the software on the OneX is not crappy too. It's fairly wonderful actually, I got to play around with a unit and found no lag in the UI. It's the most fluid phone I've ever used.
I hate you all hahahahha
I wanted the HTC One X but after seeing this:

Decided I'll take the Nexus but now it's all back to 50/50 hahaha
Spec wise the One X wins hands down. I don't mind some issues on the software side but HTF can they show 2x 30th on a calendar lolz...
I had the sensation and loved the phone until I started downloading applications and games and a lot of emails. The phone started getting really slow when opening emails or sms or anything else. Can someone please comment on this (someone who has loads of mails and sms'e and so on)
Think I'll take the One X and if I don't like it I should be able to trade it for a Nexus.
@Jac83 - Not really a lot of places that display's the real unit. We usually get dummy phones and have to look at it that way Some shopping centers does have the phones but only certain times so think I'll wait till the 7th and try to go to a place to view it

The laggy emails and sms? I've got loads of emails and SMS and of course there comes a time when it lags a bit. What I do is I empty the cache in the browser. My SMS never lags.

Try and see another Samsung with the AMOLED screen then if you can, because I found that I really didn't like it and that was a clear answer to which one to buy!

never had the flicker bug and i do not want to try and see if i have that. i had two handsets already and i am on my third one. it is a beautiful phone to have and i would highly recommend it to you. what i would suggest to you is get the handset from a network company or a dealer that if you have any faults with it that you can send it back straight away. i am now on my third one and loving it. so i hope you enjoy it if you decide to go with it in the end

I well get it on our Vodacom service provider. They have a 7 day policy. If there's any issues with the phone within 7days then they will give you a brand new unit. If it's older then 7days and I get an issue they will have to send it in for repairs or replacement depending on what HTC says (but this will take weeks in South Africa)
On your 3rd. Dam doesn't sound good. Why if I may ask?
Can you perhaps give me some idea or checklist that I can do to make sure there's nothing wrong with the phone because 7 days isn't a lot lol

sure. the problems i had were very minor to what others have been encountering but here it goes.
first was the rattling noise. even though it is not that big of a deal and not normally shaking my phone, knowing it is there did my head in.
second slight little gap were the power button was. again stick a cover over it and would of been ok. and i mean case not cover..but still knowing it is there would bug me.
third and this happened on my second phone power button became loose. so now on my third one. will say that all three times i considered going to the galaxy nexus. but i am sticking with my current one as it is working ok now and so far it feels more solid than my other two previous ones.
regarding a list of issues to look out for. look for flickering issues with grey backgrounds. ehh again the rattling noise(which should not be a big issue really), make sure that screen is not creaking and not have any gaps and so on.
head over to the htc one x general forum and you will see loads of threads there with known bugs and issues which should help you out on what to look out for

Cool tx man
htc one x screen is brighter den galaxy nexus.. when i touch the phone for the first time.. its screen really amazed me..
I am in the exact situation to you in that I went from Sensation to the Note which I love and am still keeping but I could live with something smaller for day to day tasks.
Its One X vs Nexus vs SGS3 vs other upcoming 4.7" screens.
I suspect I will wait for the SGS3 announcement, find I am underwhelmed and get a cheap second hand nexus.
If you are paying the same price for both then get the One X.

One S: totally a downgrade from XE! No longer an option..

Yes, it's fat. There, I said it, the Sensation XE is fat and it's heavy. The One S wins hands down there. I have small hands and the One S was easier to hold, more comfortable and it felt more "right"...
But apart from taking up pocket space, what do you actually use the most on a smartphone? It's a trick question.....it's the screen.
I can't understand WHY HTC put a pentile screen on the One S. Compare the screens and the One S is an obvious downgrade from the XE. I didn't think I would mind as much, but when trying out the phone it really REALLY annoyed me. Holding them up side by side, the XE wins hands down. It just looks better.
If we look away from the possibility that it's a supply issue, that there is a lack of better screens, this is yet again clearly a sign of HTC's bad decisions of late.
The only reason I can see for using the pentile screen on the One S, is to make it obvious for potential buyers in-store that the One X is the superior phone. Spec wise, it is across the board, we all know that. But in the shop and in daily use, the difference isn't that noticable. Coming from an iPhone, you won't notice that the One S has lower specs that the X in daily use. But a consumer holding up the S and X next to each other, they will clearly see that the X is better. I think, if the S had the same display as, most MOST (but not all) would choose the S because of the size and they wouldn't care as much about the sprec. So HTC but an inferior screen in so they wouldn't compete against themselves.
The X is too big for my hands, the S is the mainstream perfect size. For now, I'm sticking with the XE and next time, I might just get a Samsung. It's the only way I can show HTC, by how I use my money. Ranting here sure won't help hehe.
HTC need a reality check, like STUCK plummeting, important people getting fired, good staff going to Samsung.
Agreed. I owned a One S for a period of two days. Totally disappointed with the Screen, battery and functionality.
And I also agree, my XE wins hands down, and I was glad to be using it afterwards.
I have a friend who works in "A big Phone Retailer" who has never seen so many returns with the whole range.
HTC needs to change their strategy, because it's losing customers with the "ONE" range. I am one of them.
Regards to the OP.
I'm up for my tmo contract at the end of this year but I could get a discount on a new phone now and I'm definitely NOT going with the one S. I just don't see any benefit using it over the sensation. I'm hoping Tmo gets the GS 3 when it comes out but I'm not holding my breath with that since they were the last of the major us carriers to get the gs 2.
The other option is going with the elephant sized galaxy note, but I really don't think that's for me.

Agreed, I dont see how any one can make use of such a big device on the daily basis.
my father is getting one in the mail on monday, i cant wait to put it against my sensation
Well, it's a budget phone right, so I guess they've put in a cheap screen for that reason.

Umm... Hardly...
It is an mid-upper range device.
It costs around 400 quid new.
So much rationalization in these forums.
Sensation vs SII, oh the Sensation feels faster than the SII (even though benchmarks and neutral users/reviewers all agree that the SII is a faster device) and the screen of the SII may be better than the Sensation but who cares, etc.
Now you have the One S, which is way faster than the Sensation with a worse screen, most people are still rationalizing about how the Sensation is a much superior device.
If that is the case, then the SII would have been the obvious choice from the beginning if all you want is a good display.
Not really sure what your point is?

Stop using the screen as an argument for rationalizing about a device you own or to discredit a phone that's markedly faster.
The same people that have been hating on the SII did not care about the screen quality even though the device is faster.
Now you have a new device that has a worse screen that's way faster than the Sensation but the same people that did not care for the display of a device are hating on it BECAUSE of its screen.
Double standards much?
Oh, ok, I see what you're saying. The screen to me is a non-issue, I still don't see the one S being an upgrade over the sensation. Faster? In daily use or just in benchmarks? My biggest issue with it is the lack of storage, I used to have a 16 gb sd card and between music, video, and backups it got filled pretty quickly.
The battery isn't great but I could live with it, although if I'm on a trip away from home it's nice to know if I run out I have a backup battery I can just pop in the phone and go.
I wouldn't say it's a downgrade... but there's no compelling reason to upgrade.
While the chipset, camera, and dimensions are better - the screen is iffy (AMOLED but pentile), limited to 16 GB, and no real option (yet) to install a larger battery.
If they supported TMO AWS, I would probably be looking at the Xperia S. Slightly smaller than the Sensation with a 720p screen, more ram, better camera, etc. With the latest rumors that the GSIII has a 4.8" screen... I'm not sure I really want anything like that.

Those are all valid reasons and I respect that and even agree with them.
What I think is absolutely ridiculous and stupid is the sheer amount of double standards and rationalization that a large number of people here tend to exhibit.

No, the One V is the 'budget' one of the range.
My sensation(running aokp) is an excellent phone and development is outstanding but the sense OS really sucks so I wont be buying a One S. Might try a samsung handset but after rooting and flashing 3 samsungs for friends and family huge PTA by the way I might have to jump ship altogether.
I don't get the point of this rant. Tech-wise, One S is far superior to the One X in my opinion. I mean, apart from the screen, the One X has very little going for it. Tegra3 is a massive disappointment (just like Tegra2 was), and pales in comparison to Snapdragon 4 when it comes to the things that matter for a phone: Speed and battery life.
Yes, One S runs at a lower resolution, so it is close to 'cheating' since we are not comparing like-to-like. One S would probably be a much inferior experience to One X, if it was to run at the same (higher) resolution.
But we are comparing consumer experiences here, and that's where One S absolutely beats One X hands down. It feels faster (even on stock), and its battery life is one of the best I have seen on a phone. It regularly stays alive for over 3-4 days on a single charge, with data and sync on.
Plus, although Pentile, the Super AMOLED is still a work of beauty, delivering incredible colours and blacks. The only thing One X (and XE) have going for them is that S-LCD offers superior pixel density and does not have jagged-lines.
But One S is smaller, lighter, and clearly the better device.

You're very unique on forums, and I can relate, because we think a lot alike. No matter what comes out, people will always find a way to argue that the Sensation is the better device. It's not unique behavior to the Sensation, nor is it unique to phones (I see the same behavior on car forums I'm on). Saying that the One S is undeniably worse is unreasonable. What would make sense is to say that you don't feel that the One S is enough of an improvement to justify jumping for it. For me, I really care about the display on a phone, and I've read enough bad things about the One S and its bad display to avoid it. I don't really get the rationalization behavior, though. It only took me 3 weeks after getting my Sensation way back when to wish I had waited to get the GS2 instead. I was also very vocal on this forum about how I thought the Sensation was nice for my first Android, but how I was also underwhelmed by it (especially the performance and screen) and I posted a lot in the early Sensation vs. GS2 threads about how I as a Sensation owner had to cede that the GS2 was the better overall device.
Back a little bit on topic, I have to say that I'm really disappointed in the trend we're seeing with Android devices. I really want the One X's screen, but the overall size of the One X is too big for me. The One S has the form factor I want, but not the screen. The GS3 is receiving major hype right now, but we can be fairly confident that it too will have a large 4.6"+ display and consequently large dimensions, so I don't think I can get the GS3 unless they manage to make the screen nearly edge to edge. Will we ever see 4.3" display devices that also get top of the line specs again?

Its HTC dead? OR

As a Big Fan of HTC since the begining of SmartPhones i just was planing to Upgrade my M10 and get a brand new U12+ and what to see the U11/+ and the 12+ Subforums are like empty No development its like no one has that device?!
My question is whats going on with that Device?
Htc u12+ is amazing phone (great desing, performance, good sound, without notch), but most people prefer iphone, samsung, huawei and cheapest xiaomi . Htc have bad marketing .
Sorry for my english

I think the official HTC responses to what they will do in 2019 to fix things has been
- We are doing exciting things with 5G
- We are doing exciting things with VR
Will leave it to anyone else to determine what it means for things they haven't said.
There is no reason to switch to another brand just because of some articles of pessimistic journalists. You should buy and support the brand that you're convinced of.
Smartphones gets updates up to 2 years. In the worst case HTC stops building new phones, so what? (And I am sure they will not). After 2 years every phone is old.
I am very happy with my U12+. Superb and smooth software and awesome hardware with one of the best cameras out there.

I've noticed the same thing but here in the US HTC was a brand staple with Verizon. Verizon got all of the flagship devices from HTC and the other market got slightly lesser models. Anyway my point is that Verizon stopped carrying HTC and focused more on Sammy and the Motos. I think without the push from America's number one carrier excitement for the brand has waned. One commenter said something about not letting negative comments from reviewers affect your decision but honestly I only see negative comments in the forums. The reviews are usually good and in a lot of the comparison videos I've watched this device kicks butt, which is why I bought direct from HTC. Like you I've been an HTC fan since my very first smartphone, the Droid Incredible, and have owned nothing but HTC since. Probably the biggest drawback for me with this device is its durability. I've broken the back glass and the screen, something I've only done once before and all within the first few months. With my M9 and M10 I never worried about the durability and never used screen protectors one any of them. Now I've got this thing looking like a tank, in comparison.
Well yeah they switched to glass on the front and back. Sure this materials aren't that sturdy as aluminium bodys, we knew from One M7 up to the 10. But hey, everybody buying a glass phone knows the risk involved. As all others tend to switch to glass as well that shouldn't be an argument. Hardware/Software combination is what one has to look at nowadays.

I Agree with that i use HTC from the time where we got only Windows Mobile, and in the past 12 13 years i i used only the HTC flagships of course till the latest One series 7 8 i skipped 9 for a reason now im runing 10 i love this phone the last of its kind with the metal solid construction but with the time is time to upgrade a litle and officialy the 10 doesnt have alot of support here the official update stopped and thats it you are stuck.
Im thinking in your opinion guys for me most important factor is SOUND and CAMERA i guess eveyone using HTC love the same i read everywhere bull...its for the latest flagships that are not so good no big difference do you think its work the upgrade from 10 to 11 in some articles i wrote info that the camera is not good enought but on the same time i think is twice as good when i know HTC like a brand.
If you are me do you will exchange your 10 for an U11 ?
Thanks in advance
I'm a hardcore HTC fan. I now have both the U11 and U12+. After I figured out how to root the phones and tweak them to my liking I will stick with HTC until the end of days (or when they go belly up or I am pushing up daisies whichever comes first). With 5G coming soon, I hope that will give HTC the incentive to push the limits and come out with a highly competitive phone..
HTC U12+ is a flop with its crappy buttons on the side, poor camera, no updates, microphone issues and many other things. Do you remember the price it was sold for?
It has had several updates and first I heard of the camera being poor, taken some cracking shots with mine.
Not sure what the microphone or many other issues.
However, the buttons are 100% rubbish

As much as the touch buttons seem like a cool idea... They suck, simple as that. To grab a phone that has actual buttons that click when you press them and immediately react is fantastic. Many times on a U12+ I'm pressing the volume buttons at lease twice before it responds.
HTC had a fantastic and innovative idea and went for it. The HTC that we all grew to love and the risks they've taken over the years to give us brilliant things. However the buttons was one of those things that became a sore on their sides.
______
HTC is at a crossroads where they need to figure something out to stay in the game. They continue to lose so much money every year and the current business practice is what's causing it.
They should go back into the budget phone market and put a hold on the midrange/flagship phones. They might potentially save money by building cheap phones and selling them at a reasonable price where it will entice users. Focus on the 2year software development promise for all phones that are still within that time frame.
Continuing to sell flashship priced phones where they then sit in warehouses with minimal sales is killing them. Forget the U series, forget the midrange desire phones. Focus on cheap phones. Sale quality and well supported cheap phones which we all know is possible thanks to other companies and maybe. Maybe they can start seeing positive quarters. Then every two or three years if the budget is available release a flagship or high midrange. Do so expecting it to flop, but give it your all. If that happens and the sales are desirable, so be it. You planned for it. However if it sales like hot cakes, keep supporting it. Build trust within the community and for once do actual advertising for it. A cheap phone where advertisement is everywhere will sale. The last few flagships where all just word of mouth. Maybe one or two ads on websites here and there and the occasional retweet doesn't help at all.

You know that the button driver has a high efficiency mode, as well as a low power mode, do you!?
Holding the device in landscape mode watching videos the driver goes in to low energy mode, to prevent accidental changes of volumes by pressing them, after let's say 3 seconds. The gyro sensor then has to recognize a change in orientation, be it just slightly, to switch to high efficiency mode again. Thus the buttons become reactive again.
Yes that's a new way buttons work, but to understand if they do so correctly, one also has to know about how they are intended to work.
