Very true, but the one on amazon is 2 day shipping for prime people or orders over 25 and the one on amazon as charging output of 1000mah while the one on ebay can only do 650. Now I know the Nokia charging plate can only do 750, but it's nice being able to charge faster if you happen to find a charging plate that does do 1000mah

Unfortunately Samsung has decided to raise the price of their charge ($60) so the discount no longer works!!! Was going to order it next month but guess ATT/Nokia is going to get my money instead.

Ok, I installed the wireless charger and set it onto the Nokia pad and works great! the best part is it charges through my case (Neo Hybrid). It does bow the back which does give it some wobble but it isn't bad.
This is showing that the case already started out bowed, so any major bowing is the case, not the charging unit.

the charger pad in place, there is an adhesive pad, but I didn't use it, the tension between the back and battery keeps the pad in place. it does slightly cover up the sim slot and SD card slot.
you can see it a little warped, nothing major, but you can feel it.

I've read a lot of posts saying this needs to be perfectly centered on the Nokia charger, I can tell you it DOES NOT! here's a couple pictures with it obviously not centered. all you really need to do is make sure the receiver is over the charger. I've tossed my phone onto the pad in a bunch of different directions and it has worked 99% of the time.
you can see it's charging at 640ma, I'm currently at 55% charge so I'd imagine it would reach the full 750 if I was lower.
so I spent approx $80 for 3 of these, receivers for both my S4 and my girlfriends S3 and I'm sold.

Funny you should mention looking for a 1000ma charger because when I went to look at the receiver I noticed this...

That would be good to know, my phone has been charging at 640ma which isn't the speediest thing in the world, but will fully charge my phone at night. I'm curious if it's the charger which won't go past 640 or the receiver.

Makes me kinda wonder if there is a limiting factor in the phone itself? Don't know much about the process but it would seem strange to me that the amount to charge would really be a gating factor on how much the output of the charger would be...

Unless there's a limiter placed on the connectors for inductive charging I don't see it being a device related limitation. My thought is either Nokia oversold the output current on the charger, because of my case I'm seeing a 110mah drop in inductive charging, the receiver I put in the phone was oversold (saying it's 1000ma, but really only 640) or the app I used to measure the current is wrong.
With Actionx1 getting in the 1000ma receiver, we'll be able to eliminate the receiver as the potential culprit. When I get home tonight I'll attempt to charge without the case to see if that makes any difference.
Either way though this is just an exercise in curiosity for me. I'm happy as a clam only paying about $19 for each of the charging pads and they work great.

I have that charger. It's the worst one out of all that I have. I also have the samsung charger and one I got off ebay (similar to this: Qi Wireless Charger)
The GMYLE doesn't produce enough range to power through an otterbox case, while the others both do.
It does charge decently, but heats up my devices more than the others.
The red charge indicator glow is also very obvious and bleeds through the white casing at night. Not crazy bright but obvious enough.

I'm trying to convince myself why I would buy a wireless charger... I just don't see the reasoning because there is still a wire got G to the charging pad that the phone has to sit on... So I guess it just saves me the small hassle of having to plug and unplug my phone but is that worth $50... So my question is why did u or why are u planning on buying one... Am I missing something?

Because its the most convenient thing ever....
I dislike the "official" n5 wireless charger, Instead I have the samsung S4 wireless charger, its a tray a littler larger than the n5 you just set it on.... anytime I'm at my desk I just set it on the charger. It might not seem like much, buts its well well worth it if you have an extra 50 bucks.

See I would want one that's big enough to charge my phone and my nexus 7... It would be sitting on my nightstand since I don't have a desk job but I don't know I might try one anyways... Do u know of one that's big enough for the both?

For me the reason is practical (the reason why I am planning). I use my phone as an alarm clock so my phone must be plugged in all night on charge to ensure that it goes off and the phone doesn't die.
My partner is often in bed when I go to bed so the room is dark and must remain so. Plugging the USB cable in is quite awkward in the dark and quite easy to get the wrong way round and sometimes I find it just isn't inserted properly. For me, dropping it on a wireless charging unit will make it much easier in these situations.

I just bought one without reason and i love it. You can use it with no light easy. Grab and go (it happens me a lot of time at work that i have to run somewhere and with cable I had some accidents :S)

Picked this up for 20 bucks has a light to tell you if it's charging or not. It not super bright so at night on the nightstand I don't see it unless I really look. The size is perfect for our phones. It is a nice charger.
Once you go wireless you will not want to plug in anymore. I hate having to charge at work. I drive a truck all day and having a cord is a pita...

I have a wireless charger for my WII that holds both remotes don't know if that would work.

I will bump this 2-week old thread and say I was skeptical about buying a wireless charger for my Nexus 5. I received the official Nexus charger as a Christmas gift and it's very nice. Now if it's worth $50, only you can decide.
As others have said, it's nice to not have to fidget with a micro USB cable and connector in the dark. I find the USB jack on the N5 to be trickier than any other phone I've owned for some reason. I'm always fumbling with the connector for several seconds when I plug it in. This isn't a problem with the wireless charger.
There's also the added benefit that there is no longer a loose micro USB cable dangling between my bed and night stand. The nexus charger has a nice grip on the bottom so it doesn't move on my night stand.
TL;DR: I like that I got one as a gift, but I probably wouldn't pay $50 of my own money for it.

I just posted this in the Accessories Forum, but I'll put it here to. Seems relevant enough. If you don't need/care about using a big name brand, you won't have to spend anywhere near $50.
This is the one I'm currently using. Just a generic Qi charger off ebay. Has the same 5V 1A output as pretty much all other Qi chargers.

So if you just look around, you can easily find generic ones that work perfectly well for a very reasonable price.

I would get one that puts out more then 1A preferably 2A(it can do that right?)
EDIT: I want a quick charge because it's wireless. That means I need it to quickly charge when its on there because it ain't charging when I pick it up obviously.

Wireless Charging uses more power to charge your phone, so if your an energy conscious eco saver, then be aware that wireless chargers are not that efficient at getting the charge to your phone.
I am sure XDA did a review on the Nexus 5 Charger (which also works for the Nexus 7 (2013)).
If you watch that video, it seems a bit flimsy to get the phone on a sweet spot to get it to charge, I am not sure if it is because he rushed it, and didn't leave it a second before fiddling to move it to a new spot. But it didn't look good for $50.
If the official charger was around $20, then yes, but considering you can plug your phone in via USB and STILL USE IT.
Where as with wireless, its on its pad, and you either have to pick the pad up with the phone, or just take the phone off charge, to ready that notification etc.
My view, it may be cool and neat to just place it down and charge, but its neither practical or efficient to use.

Just an update as my last post was to "justify" my intention to get a wireless charger, I now have a Nokia one (chosen specifically from research).
Got to say, its great. Although it still takes 2 hands in the dark, cold reality that is bedtime in my flat (one to assess the base orientation and the other to situate), it's much easier than grabbing a cable and plugging it in. I can't damage the port, no fiddling around in the dark and shining the screen on the cable to see which way up it goes ... just goes in...

I have yet to find a Qi charger pad that can output above 1A max to a device. That includes the official Nexus 5 wireless charger, GMYLE, Tylt Vu, Samsung etc. That's regardless of price ranges.
The official Nexus 5 charger for example takes 1.8A from the wall adapter to the charger, then the charger plate outputs the same 1A as everything else.
Factor in ~70% or so efficiency, and Qi chargers will generally max out charging the Nexus 5 at around 700 - 750mA.
I used CurrentWidget to compare the stock Nexus 5 wired charger and my generic ebay Qi charger using various connections.
This is what I got for max sustained charge:
I used the Stock USB cable for all of the variations.
Stock 1.2A LG wall adapter: 1053mA
2A USB wall adapter: 1053mA
Built in USB input on power bar: 1053mA
USB 3.0 port (desktop computer): 446mA (surprised it was so low for a USB 3.0 charge port)
USB 2.0 port (desktop computer): 334mA
Generic Qi charger (2A input/1A output)/Built in USB input on power bar: 751mA
Generic Qi charger/Stock LG adapter: 655mA (corrected, sorry typo)
Generic Qi charger/2A USB adapter: 751mA
Generic Qi charger/USB 3.0 port: 696mA (interesting compared to directly plugging into USB 3.0)
Generic Qi charger/USB 2.0 port: 502mA (low, but again higher than direct cable)
So looking at all of these, as well as looking at the stock LG charger (as well as a higher output 2A I had around), I couldn't get any higher than 1053mA charge rate regardless. I'm sure that's due to some built in settings in the Nexus 5.
What was more surprising (unless I screwed something up) was the crap charge rate using direct USB cable connection into a USB 3.0 charging port. It was only a little bit of an improvement over USB 2.0. This was somewhat negated using the Qi charger into the same desktop USB ports (which surprised me further) but still wasn't as efficient as directly into a power outlet.
So, if there ever is a Qi charger that outputs at 2A, given (from my anecdotal test anyway) a direct cable using a 2A adapter gave the same 1053mA max charge rate, I think the most you can expect is getting a little closer to the stock plug. I don't think wireless charging will ever be faster (or even equivalent) than wired given the efficiency loss, even if it was higher output. (My guess anyway) I think the 1A Qi chargers out right now are giving roughly what you can expect for Nexus 5 max wireless charging. It might even be limited like the wired charging seems to be.
I think the more important thing is, not to use the USB ports on a computer, even if it's a USB 3.0 charge port. Using the Qi charger to the computer it was still less than max the Qi was capable of. I've ordered 3 more 2A adapters to use with the Qi charger I have, plus the 3 additional Qi chargers I've ordered just to make sure I'm getting the most out of it.
So if you can find a cheap Qi charger (like the ones I posted earlier) you might as well go for it. As long as you check that the output is 1A, they essentially (charging wise) perform the same as the chargers that cost $20 - $50+ more.
If anyone can do any other tests with their Qi chargers to confirm or negate my findings, that would be great.

Case with Qi coil built in?

Is there a case available with a Qi coil built in, so I can slot in the 6P into the case which will have a type C connector on the bottom and will allow me to charge the phone wirelessly? This would be a good solution to avoid wasting my investment in my Qi desk chargers and Qi car docks.

I've not seen one but that would charge very slowly. Probably not a problem for an overnight charge but you would never be able to quickly burst charge your phone with Qi.

It very easily possible that a company can create a case with QI wireless built in. They currently make several different modes for the iphone. Welcome to xda

Basically I just want a case with a Qi coil built in and this coil has a USB-C connector that you plug in the 6P, like someone mentioned they make cases like this for the iPhone so it is possible, if you search for "qi chip micro usb" on Amazon you will see the adaptor for example. I would like either an adaptor or a case with the coil built in so I can just slide the 6P into a connector that is built into the bottom of the case. Charging time is not an issue because this is for overnight charging and for when the phone is docked on my Qi car dock during navigation.

There will be a Qi sticker that will fit under a case.

Just curious to those who uses the wireless charging since i have never used it before..
How long does it take to charge your phone using a wireless charger? (Any fast charging wireless charger out there?)
And does it consumes more power to charge a phone because they may be less efficient than normal cable charging?

Fast wireless charging is only on the new Samsung phones. The Nexus 6 I have now will charge at 1A via qi so it charges kn about 3 hours but that's fine when I goto bed at night. Wireless charing is less efficient because you lose more power due in the form of heat which is why the speed is limited more than a cable

Takes a while. It's best for overnight charging or just trickle charging on your desk. If you're in a pinch and need juice, plugging it into just about anything would be faster. Most have a max output of 1A at 5V, so 5 watts, the input usually 2A at 5V, so 10 watts input. Samsung just came out with a faster wireless charger that has a freaking fan inside of it. Not sure of output and what the hardware requirements are for it. May be limited to S6 Edge+/ Note 5. It's purely a convenience. I never used it until my Nexus 6. For me its more of a pain in the arse since the nexus 6 has a curved back. Having an easel type would be best. It's harder to get it just right on the flat hockey puck looking chargers. Unfortunately for me, I have 2 hockey pucks... But the Samsung one I have has a larger pad so it works first time most times.

Why would it ?
The coils create the current via induction, you can charge or power anything with a +/- terminals, as long as you feed the +/- correctly via the USB port or directly soldered to the batter terminals its will charge due to having a small amount of electricity to supply it.
There is no need for magical software to control it, you can try for your self, wire a LED to a QI coil and put it on a charger and boom the LED lights up.

Am I missing something here or what ... You have to keep something plugged in to use this? So if you want a quick charge you have to unplug it, then replug it to use a wireless charger?

I don't think think it defeats the purpose at all. I think most of the time the Qi would be plugged in but occasionally pulled out when you needed a large, quick charge. It would help if there was a place to retract or dock the Qi cable and I'd also be a bit concerned about the overall thickness.

With 3450mah...I think I'll be fine with a 20 minute quick charge.
I plug in every night anyway... Not really for me.... Especially with reversible cable.I guess I understand goggles reasoning. I prefer finding solutions for all day battery life then laying it flat to charge wirelessly. At 5 or 6 sot time were almost there for the heaviest of users

This means you would have to open your brand new Nexus 6P in order to install it. Not saying it wont work but I think this means loosing your warranty tho.
My opinion is that one is better off getting a compatible wireless charging phone instead of going through the trouble.

I could probably drain in and still only get 3 hours SOT knowing me... I used to get 5 hours SOT kb my Nexus 6 until I started syncing my emails and other stuff ontop of having my AW wath paired to it all day.

Complete opposite impression of OP as I do not recommend this charger. Charges my nexus 7 at 300 mA via the A port and charges my 6P via the C port at 2200 mA. USB C cables fall right out of the port with no force required and the components inside the charger wiggle around when you move the charger. Also quite a bit heavier and larger than the stock Huawei charger.
Tronsmart offered to send me a replacement but I have a feeling I will be getting a refund.

It seems like you receievd a defective unit clearly. I've had the charger for a while now, and other than having it break while traveling (my fault) it worked perfectly. The charger still works, but it has a crack in it thanks to rough handling in my bag while traveling (and putting it in a non-padded pocket). The ports at all snug and it does charge up at 2.950A based on what I saw while testing it. I don't think your experience is typical, but it also doesn't make our any better to experience. I hope you get it worked out

Didnt see that one before. Not happy with my Tronsmart at the moment. If the replacement still has the same issues, I will be returning it and probably will give that CHOETECH a shot.
Also my Tronsmart gets quite warm to the touch (not unbearable though), can give you an exact temp once I find my infrared thermometer.

Well the Type A port puts out the rated 5V/3A if your device can charge at that rate. Most phones will only charge at 5V/2A via a type A port, so that's why it chargers them slower.

350A is a HUGE amount of power, I think you mean 350mAh. How did you check the current rate for the N7? If you used Ampere or any app then it's not accurate so you need to use an inline multimeter. . Mine outputs ~5V/2A charging my S7E and it gives my 1.5A over the Type A port using my Nexus 6P. If yours doesn't output the correct current then it's likely defective.

Lol, yes I did mean mAh. I understand the apps aren't as accurate as an actual inline meter, but I thought they at least got you in the correct ballpark?

Not necessarily, I've seen them be off as much as 1A before especially on my S7E, so I don't go by those. If it seems like it's defective then I would contact Tronsmart because they could probably give you a better answer.

It does seem like both these chargers are hit and miss. Likely resulting from poor QC. I picked up a tronsmart myself after deciding between the two. It should be arriving today. Unfortunately my 6P is due later in the week.

I've had my Tronsmart for a few weeks now, based on initial impressions from OP. I've had zero issues with it. Matter of fact, I replaced a multiport charger on my nightstand for this one, as all I normally charge now is my N6P and my LG Watch. Coupled with iOrange-E 2m braided cables, I have zero issues with charging the N6P. Now I keep my OEM charger at the office (just in case).

I have this charger for about 2 weeks and I haven' t got any issue yet.

Here's to hoping my replacement is better ?
One of the big android blogs just did a post on tronsmart praising them for their products. Felt sponsored though so I'm weary.

I want a QI compatible back cover. Rumours, news, releases?

I really like the back cover idea, even though I'm not sure I will be buying a battery back, at least not yet as they're waaay too expensive.
However, one enormous oversight from Lenovo/Moto is that the stock back cover doesn't have a QI receiver built in.
It's thick enough that a slim QI coil would fit comfortably, and not add any bulk from the "style mod"
It appears that the phone itself has the electronics required built in, so the thickness should not be affected.
(Based on the fact that there's a system service preinstalled about wireless charging)
I haven't been able to find anything on ebay or google, has anyone heard or seen something interesting?

Still no rumors but it's a bit early... anyway I'm pretty sure that a QI compatible cover and a slimmer battery pack (1000 mAh?) will be some of the first third parts MODs developed...

I'm assuming you are NOT looking for the Incipio battery with Qi Charger built in? I got one of those at best buy and love it, but there's no denying that it adds a bit of heft to the phone. Personally, I don't mind this at all and prefer a slightly thicker phone.

Well, for one that battery doesn't appear to get released in Sweden. The only back pack available is the non wireless at 120 something bucks. It's priced a little extreme imo..
(All things wireless charging are really hard to come by locally. Strange really since IKEA actually makes qi compatible furniture these days..)
And it really is a little on the thick side, although the fact that I can drop the backpack directly on a charger and still have my phone is genius.
A backpack with at most 1mm extra bulk from a style cover and some miniscule 1Ah battery built in would be cool though.
Should be possible, the ipad air has some really thin cells inside, I've used butchered ipad air batteries for several projects.
As a side note, the Chinese super premium brand Xiaomi is about to release a 2-way QC3.0 Type C power bank.
That could be a good middle ground for me.

How much bulk added? Like the JBL speaker bulk?

Yes, but please note that model in picture is without wireless charge option (MT-381-WHT).
Models with wireless charge are MT-382-WHT (white) and MT-382-BLK (black), even if they are identical from exterior ....
These days they are very hard to find and reserved by Motorola to few markets only...

After spending 25 minutes on the phone to Lenovo sales (rather than risk ordering the wrong one online) and having it double checked twice I'm waiting to return what they sent - just a moto mod charge pack not a wireless one as ordered.
After another three calls it turns out they are not in the UK yet.... unless you know differently??

Ugh... I sooo hate that. I mean, I know mistake happen, but when you do as much research as you possible can and double check with the company alerting them to the potential for a mixup and they still send you the wrong thing!

Versions listed on amazon in europe have a different code from the above, but are all without wireless, so they are about MT-381-xxx with different coding...

I know this is a little off-topic but I have the Tumi wireless charging battery mod and for the life of my I can't seem to find a way to consistently charge the pack wirelessly. It would always recognize that it's on a wireless charger and start charging for a few seconds then disconnect then reconnect then disconnect...so on and so forth. Does anyone have the same issue or do I have a faulty unit?

Originally I had my ChoeTech Fast wireless charger hooked up as shown above. The issue wasn't the Tumi, the wireless charger or the power brick. It was the generic cable I used to plug the brick into the wireless charging pad. I switched to a higher quality cable that I knew would work with the max output of the adaptive fast charging wall brick and all my issues went away! Hope that helps!
