ESR cases and tempered glass screen protectors (and XDA promo codes!) - Google Pixel 4 XL Accessories

ESR reached out to me to see if I wanted to test any of their new Pixel 4XL accessories so of course I said yes. I'm using their tempered glass case on my 3XL and really like it, and it is good to see that they expanded their lineup for the 4XL. They sent the tempered glass case (Mimic) and protectors, the slim clear case (Zero,) as well as the kickstand case in both clear and black. The cases are all TPU based so they are flexible, and of course the Mimic has a tempered back which adds some rigidity. Since the Nexus 6P I've had a white phone and to show off the color always preferred the TPU sides with a polycarbonate back, but I've found that the glass back is even better in terms of clarity and scratch resistance. While no better or worse than polycarbonate, the smooth back of the Mimic does make it slipperier if you set it down on an angled surface (say, your leg) while the full TPU cases offer just a bit of grip to keep it in place better. All of these ESR cases use what seems to be good quality TPU with the dot matrix pattern to avoid the case sticking to the phone. I was actually impressed that the Mimic offered that, despite only having TPU edges. The "black" kickstand case is more of a smoke color and is semi-transparent. Not sure how well it will pair with the orange or white Pixel 4, but I've got an orange coming so I'll update with pictures once it arrives. The screen protector comes in a two pack and appears to be full adhesive, despite the black border. The sensor areas aren't cut out, but they don't have any adhesive. Time will tell if those areas become dust magnets or not. Obviously without a phone I'm not using them yet, but at least initially the coating feels very smooth.
In the images you're looking at, from left to right, the kickstand case, the Mimic and the Zero. My 3XL has the Zero on, with the 4XL Zero next to it for comparison.
I will of course update this post once my phone arrives, but I know that some of you will start getting phones in the coming days and wanted to throw out my initial opinions. They're offering XDA users a 20% discount with the codes below, and some of the Pixel 4 cases may have a 5% discount on the Amazon page which will stack if available.

Thanks for the codes.
I had already ordered the mimic and essential zero for my (to be delivered tomorrow) 4xl and actually received them yesterday.
I immediately reordered at the discounted prices and initiated the free returns to amazon.
I know it's only a savings of approximately $5.50, but it's definitely worth it to me and I'm happy about it.
Hopefully the cases fit great on my new phone. I want to show off my "panda".
Thanks again

I have the zero clear here waiting for the phone to arrive tomorrow and I just ordered the clear with kickstand and used coupon code. Thanks

Just ordered the mimic. I like the idea of it. We'll see how they execute.

P4XL arrived today, here are pictures of the Mimic, Kickstand (in black) and Zero (in that order) as well as the installed screen protector. I don't think I'm crazy about the screen protector; it went on easily and looks good at a distance, but on dark screens you can see a slight halo around the edges of the display just before the protector's black border. It also feels nice and smooth, but smudges pretty easily.
As for the cases, unlike the P3 the Mimic has a lip where the glass meets the TPU on the back, which gives it just a little grip. I like it. The black Kickstand case definitely would work best on the black, if you're going white or orange I'd suggest the clear case. The Kickstand itself is very sturdy and stays in place at any angle you place it. It has enough strength to prop up the phone with the kickstand lying flat on the table, meaning you can adjust the phone at any angle you'd like. It also adds a pretty sizable hump to the bottom, fwiw. The Zero feels nice and slim, though I'm not sure it's noticably slimmer than the Mimic. The full, smooth TPU gives it a different in hand feel for sure and more grip when laid down on a smooth surface.
All in all I like all 3 cases, but personally I'll probably stick with Mimic. I'll also likely try some other screen protectors, though I can't say any Pixel has had good screen protector options.

Did you know that you have the links grouped and labeled incorrectly? The top group of links says Pixel 4XL - but they are actually for PIXEL 4 products and the bottom group is labled Pixel 4 while the links are all for 4 XL products? Hopefully everyone clicking the links looks carefully before buying anything - or they will be disappointed - I thought you might want to update the OP .....thanks for the options though - look like great products....

Just now I order " Mimic Series Tempered Glass Case " I don't like to use the case all the time. I am a fan of clear full body skin. But I like the idea of the glass case and I am very interesting to try it

Here's some pics of the zero on the 4 xl. It's a good case. The cutouts are lined up good and it's not too bulky. It also has the dot matrix so you don't have spots where it sticks to the phone. Definitely a good case but the phone feels so good naked, I don't think I'll leave it on very long.

I wasn't paying attention and bought the pixel 4 version of the case because of that. No biggy, just made me laugh when I opened the packaging and went to put it on. Refund started and correct one ordered.

The screen protector is really great. Cant tell its on.

What happened to the Mimic black?

I'm using mimic clear currently on my 4xl and it's very nice. With the coupon code and prime discount I paid about $14. Really good deal. Paid about $7 for the essential zero but haven't messed with that one yet.

Wasn't a fan of the screen protector. Super easy to put on and it doesn't block any sensors. But the rounded corners come out too far cutting of a little bit of real estate. And it holds on to fingerprints so keep a cloth handy. Frustrating as they mailed everything else.

Bought the ESR screen protector 2-pack and it didn't go well for me at all. First one didn't apply properly so had to bin that one, second one spontaneously shattered within 2 days. Got a Spigen one and no issues yet.

So I got the ESR Mimic case and I have to say it's a piece of crap. It's like a 99 cent TPU case with a piece of tempered glass glued protector glued to the back. Mine came in with a bunch of scratches and scuffs that couldn't be buffered off. No point in using a clear case when there's visual imperfections that take awake from the viewing experience. I bet they make a huge markup on this case considering they're charging $22 and that's with the discount. I'm pretty sure they paid for their reviews on Amazon. Returned the same day. Go for the Caseology Skyfall instead it's $14 and a way more attractive/high quality case. It doesn't have a glass back but it is leaps and bounds ahead of the ESR Mimic in terms of quality. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VFSBQDH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

[Review] ZeroLemon 9H Ultra Glass Armor tempered glass screen protector

** @ZEROLEMON_OFFICIAL has asked me to make this thread to review their new glass screen protectors. Please don't start your own thread and leave all feedback on this thread. Thank you.**
Hi guys well this is my review of the ZeroLemon 9H Ultra Glass Armor tempered glass screen protector. I liked the packaging. Straight forward, easy to open. It came with the screen protector, cleaning cloth and alcohol wipe.
Installation
I wasn't too fond of the wipe. It left a lot of streak and marks on the screen. It might have been user error but eventually i got the screen cleaned. My method is i grabbed two pieces of packaging tape. I put one pieces of the tape on one side of the screen and the other one the other side of the screen, overlapping the first piece of tape. I then pressed down on the pieces of tape really well to try to get every spot of the screen. I then pulled the tape off and it got about 99% of the dust off the screen. I then pulled the plastic off of the screen protector and applied it.
My Thoughts
I really like it. Its smooth. The screen is still clear and responsive. Its thin and it fits all of the cases i have. I'm not a huge user of the finger print scanner but for the review, I've been using it and it seems to work very well. Following are images of the packaging and cases I've tried this screen protector with. I've used the following cases:
- clear TPU case
- Otterbox Commuter
- Otterbox Defender
- Spigen Neo Hybrid
- Verus Thor
- Verus Iron Shield
Overall I'm very happy with this screen protector and for under $10, it may be the best screen protector for the value available for the Galaxy S5
Less fancy review.
I also received this item from ZeroLemon for review...
My tempered glass package came in on the weekend but was unable to get it in my hands until Monday. The box was rather plain but contents were neatly organized, protected, and all accounted for. This glass is thicker than some others I've used and I have no clue if that's a good or bad thing, but despite the thickness it does not interfere with any of my 4 cases (diztronic slim tpu, ultra tpu, reactor, and ringke slim armor case). I did not use the included alcohol wipe as the screen was already spotless dustwise on delivery. Installation was just like any other tempered glass screen I've ever had and I had zero issues applying it with zero bubbles or dust stuck between the screen and glass. I noticed no decrease in screen response just as I did not with any brand I've used. I did like how they printed the instructions on the inside of the carton itself rather than an added piece of paper. No issues with the finger print scanner and the front camera still takes clear shots.
Minor nit picks would be to make the packaging a little more visually pleasing, and I would prefer not to see iphone pictures used in the instructions, I rather see the device it's being sold for.
Bottom line I think this is a great value at it's current price and will remain so as long as it is below the 10 dollar mark. once it is above that there's no reason to pick this product over any other of the many others in that price range.
Sorry for the lack of photo's but the post above pretty much has all you'd ever need I think.
TLDR :
Great product at it's current price point
My (first edtion ) review of the 9H glass protector
I received the protector today.
Shipped by airmail, in a bubble-envelope, in which I found the cardboard casing.
Shockproof and protected, as it should with these protectors.
( I've ordered from Ebay a white-label once, and I got a origami protector, 100+ pieces of unbreakable puzzle-fun )
First impression is a perfect one, and upon opeing, I found everything I needed.
Cleaning - I cleaned my phone, and outlayed the glss protector on my display.
In contrary to "plastic's" it did not directely adhese, so I could move it to it's correct position. ( needle / knife point )
Pressing down from the inside out, it stuck perfectly with no dust or bubble's
( again .... mindblowingly perfect after 100's of plastic protectors )
The look & Feel ...
It feels amazing, smooth, likt the 'real' thing, i did not notice any lag or ghost-touches, just like if you're touching the regular screen.
The only thing ( My OCD :+ ) througt the glass you still see something of a riser between the samsung & protector.
It appears there is a ( samsung applied ) protector allready installed.
Anyone else ever noticed this ?
pic's
Great screen protection for under $10
I've been using the ZeroLemon 9H glass for almost a week now and overall I am very happy with it. I've used all the major brands before and the ZeroLemon is just as good as any of them. The glass is crystal clear with the fit being perfect and achieving a bubble free installation was a breeze with the included materials. The surface is very slick with fantastic touch response. It cleans easily and over the past 6 days has remained scratch free. One thing I must note is that the protector goes nearly edge to edge and does not leave room for a case that has heavy lip overhang onto the screen. With my Commuter wallet the rubber lip goes up and over the protector which isn't a big deal but it causes the silicone bunch up by the home button. With a price point under 10 dollars this screen protector is a major win and is easy to recommend to anyone looking for affordable screen protection.
Hi, now i got that protector.. I had different protector before.. Package is good and it included same stuff like other protectors.. That home button is lower when glass is on.. There could be some home button with sticker that i can add it to get it back to normal. Glass fits very good. Only thing that i dont know how much its resist.. y
It would be good if there is some video that you show how much your protector resist all kind of scratching? This is very good. I think that your products dont need any this kind testing if products are like this. But i didnt found this on ebay? All users dont use amazon so that would be good? But overall: big thanks that you choose me to one of those testers.. This glass prorector is perfect. Only the glass stamina/resistance is unknown that how much its takes all kind of using

I have received my Protector and have been using it for about 1 week now.
I have decided not to upload photos since the good users above me have already uploaded all that there is to be seen.
Prior to my zerolemon glass protector i was using one of those cheap china glass protector's and i would say that Zerolemon's is of a much higher quality. Previously when my screen was off there would be a "rainbow" effect on the glass and i do not have this issue anymore. The cut is much better and it protects to the maximum potential. The glass is smooth and fingerprint resistant and it cleans easily with a microfiber cloth.
The packaging was very good as well and application was a breeze with plenty of room for adjustments if you made mistakes in alignment.
I would highly recommend this product!

This looks like it comes out of the same factory as the NuGlas. The glass and package look the identical. The same alcohol package and location.

Any more feedback on this glass protector? I was thinking of getting something better than those you get on ebay for 5€/6-7$ and from a bit of well known brand. I have one of those cheap ones on my current phone and it doesn't seem bad, but i haven't dropped it yet so i don't know.
I looked into the ones from spigen but they are crazy expensive. I did read on amazon a review that said that the 9h hardness wasn't good and it would scratch easily. The ones that have this, do you find that to be true?
Also, i see they mention lifetime warranty (At least on amazon where im looking). How would that work? I would send them my broken one(at my cost) and they would send one back for free or almost free? I read that there was a brand that did that.

Moto Z FORCE Cases

Looking into buying a case tonight. Any takers?
Before you read lol this is overkill but Decided to go with tempered glass from Pleson. I've used them before on my Moto X '15 no problems!
Going to see how the tempered glass and clear case work out!
I'm going to give the protector a try only because I want to have a glass screen to slide my finger on. Plus, who needs to worry about scratches, right? I think it'll work out well because the screen seems flat. I'm still deciding if I'm going to get a case or not.
A glass screen protector is a really good idea to improve the feel. I'd try to get away with just a bumper for a case. Full disclosure, I played with them at Verizon yesterday but I don't have one.

Purchased an Otterbox Defender case. I needed tough case and didn't have any experience with heavy duty cases other than Supcase's Unicorn Beetle, Otterbox's Defender, and Trident Case's Kraken. Supcase has one for preorder and I doubt the Trident will release a Kraken case for the Moto Z Droid.
The Defender is what I expected; A durable inside case surrounded by a softer shell. Had the same terrible plastic screen protector as every other Otterbox case. Popped it off the case, removed the adhesive with the edge of a blade.; With a tempered glass screen on the phone itself the fit is a bit snug, but the inner case still closes and everything still lines up correctly so everything is good on that end. What I didn't expect is the belt carrier is actually decent; the phone can attach in every orientation (face up/down, rotated 180 degrees about the face). It adds a bit of bulk, but I will gladly take it over a simple shell or soft case.

Awesome. Is the bumper pretty low-profile? Damn, I thought it might make the Style Shell not usable, bummer. Let us know if you find a case that will accommodate the shell/mods! Can you post pics of the bumper/screen protector? Would love to see real-world pics.

Was about to order this exact set up. Questions:
1) The case is all clear right? The pics make it look like the sides are rose gold.
2) Any issues installing the screen protector? I've never had a glass and the reviews say that its prone to bubbles.

Screen Protector: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K1D37OG

Both fit and feel like they came from the factory. Very satisfied with both so far. I'll likely also get VZW's bumper "case" for when I'm carrying it around with mods.
[Edit]
After more reading on Verizon's bumper I think I'll hold off until someone else makes a decent mod compatible case.

Apparently I can't post links from the labs app, but it's easy to find on Amazon.
I posted a more complete review in it's own thread, but for belt clip holster types...
Good: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01H2K0M58/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (Great fit with the Incipio Battery Pack on the phone)
Bad: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HCN4PB2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Too long... AGOZ one listed above it perfect length for a naked phone at almost exactly 6 inches of internal length (~15.5 cm). The MND, on the other hand, is about 6.75 inches in length (16.75 cm)... the naked phone swims in that much length.

Video Review: Ringke Fusion Case for Google Pixel XL

Direct link: https://youtu.be/HhxKC9InIk4
This is my unboxing and review of the Ringke Fusion for the Pixel XL. Some comparisons between it and the Spigen Slim Armor also.
The video is a tad long but here are some key points.
Pros:
-It offers a slim design that fits right in between the super thin shells and most cases.
-Clear polycarbonate back lets you see the phone, a key feature of the product
-Buttons are very 'clicky'. You can clearly hear them being pressed.
-The case is also just thick enough to make me feel confident that a drop will not cause any major damage.
-Light weight. I notice a significant weight difference between the Ringke and Spigen
Cons:
-Bezel is not pure black
-Bezel is not offered in the soft touch TPU that is had in previous years
-Feels a tad 'rubbery'
I had one of these cases for my N5X and loved it. I'm very close to pulling the trigger on one for my Pixel XL but I'm concerned about the added bulk. I'm currently running the Google branded grey polycarb/silicone case and while the size is nice the silicone is too sticky. Inserting it and removing it from my jeans pockets is a pain in the ass as it gets stuck to the pocket material. This also results in a fair amount of lint stuck to the case.
Are you able to comment on the amount of added bulk, specifically, the sides of the phone? This phone is just about at the limit of what I can use one handed.
Well, the RIngke Fusion is slimmer than the Spigen Slim armor. And is thinner than the ones make for the N4 and N5. Not sure about the N5X. And this one hasn't gotten stuck in my pocket yet, slides in and out easily. Hope that helps a bit.

Picked it up and installed it today. Perfect. Slim, slides right out of my pocket and really shows off the back of my phone. Ringke might be my goto case manufacturer for now on.
Thinking of picking one up. How is the case holding so far? Any discolouration? Is there "oily" parts on the upper half of the rear of the phone?

No oily parts, no discoloration, no scratches or scuffs and I've dropped it several times already. The clear back will pick up some finger prints if you're chowing down on some french fries or something but nothing crazy and they wipe right off. I had this case on my last phone for about a year and they hold up great.
How big is the lip around the front? If I was planning on using a tempered glass screen protector with this case, would the TGSP touch the ground when I lay the phone face down?

The front lip nearly lays flush with my Zagg screen protector on the left and right side of the phone. However, along the top and bottom, the lip sticks out a bit further, maybe 2-3mm. This way, if you put your phone face down on a flat surface, like a table or desk, the glass won't make contact with it.
The military standard is 6.6 foot drop protection.

Ahh thanks!
Has anyone made a custom template for this case yet? I know they come with a cutout

I don't know if you ever got an answer, but here is the one I made, including some images (yes, big Star Wars fan). It's a simple Word document with the template and a couple of pics. Enjoy!

LK screen protector + Spigen Rugged Armor case + random other things

If you're like me, as soon as you pre-ordered your Pixel you also bought a case/screen protector/etc. Here are some random pictures.
First the screen protector, I purchased the LK 3 pack screen protector from Amazon. I picked the LK brand because it had a lot of good reviews for the Pixel 3 XL. I installed it using the alignment tool and unfortunately it doesn't cover the whole screen, see the pictures below (excuse the dust).

I know it's not much but when you're looking at things on the edges, it's pretty noticeable.
The case I'm using is the Spigen Rugged Armor. This is my go to case because it's a simple design that provides protection for cheap. I used it with my Nexus 6P, Pixel 1, 2 and now 4. It fits nicely, the cut outs are lined up perfectly. The rear camera could be protected a little better though. See pictures below (I know.. dust).

Zagg Glass Elite Pixel 4 XL Review (~2 months use). Pictures with a few cases

Hey everyone. Been seeing a few threads here with folks struggling with tempered glass screen protectors for the Pixel 4 XL, so I thought I would share what I can about my experiences so far.
Some notes:
- been using this since beginning of November
- I included pictures of two of the cases I have so that you can see the lip, but I also used this with an unpictured Spigen Neo Hybrid and the protector worked fine
- if you want a cheap alternative, the OMOTON was OK but I had touch issues along the edges. Here is a link if you want to check it out (had great coverage the and install tray worked great): https://www.amazon.ca/OMOTON-Google-XL-Screen-Protector/dp/B07VCJHS76
- I am very picky
- webpage for the model I am reviewing below: https://www.zagg.com/en_us/glass-elite-pixel-4-xl
- pictures taken with my old 2XL as best as I could.
- I have not dropped my phone yet thankfully.
Summary:
- this is the best protector I have found so far. I would prefer a Whitestone Dome but I don't think they are making one for the 4XL (based on a response I got from the Amazon store).
- I suggest this protector if you want full coverage* (see review below) and full adhesive and you don't mind spending extra cash. Install is easy with included install tray.
Pros of this protector:
- was available locally at Best Buy and if I didn't like it, I could easily return it.
- is what I would consider full coverage. I don't get any weird reflections on the sides and the screen is not cutoff. If I look at the phone from an extreme angle on one side I can see the image get distorted due to the glass edge lining up perfectly with the AMOLED screen edge, but that's not something that happens in everyday usage. I have pictures of this below. The screen protector lines up perfectly with the lit portion of the screen.
- full adhesive
- no black bars or screen cutoffs. Full clear.
- I got some bubbles when i installed it. They were gone by the next day.
- I had slight touch sensitivity on one side on the first day of install, but it went away by the next day. Sensitivity is as good now as no protector.
- has install tray
- fits the three cases I tried with it; NOMAD rugged leather case, Spigen Liquid Air, and Spigen Neo hybrid. There is still a bit of lip around the sides that allows you to place the phone face-down no problem, and I can swipe with my thumb from the sides of the case to the protector and it does not feel sharp, etc.
Links to the cases I have used here:
https://hellonomad.com/collections/pixel-4/products/rugged-case-black-pixel-4-xl
https://www.spigen.com/collections/...l-4-xl-case-neo-hybrid?variant=30271183880239
https://www.spigen.com/collections/...l-4-xl-case-liquid-air?variant=30271175983151
Cons:
- expensive. I paid $40CDN
- oleo-phobic coating did not last very long. Much better on the Whitestone Dome Glass I had on my 2XL.
- no room for error installing. The screen lines up perfectly with the lit screen, so you need to take your time installing, even with the tray.
- little/no protection at the top.
Some pictures below, with side and front pictures of the Nomad and Liquid air cases.
$40? That's ridiculous. No thanks
Looks like there's some halo in pictures #2 and #5 on the upper left side. Zagg really is too expensive for what they offer especially when it's a one and done. Would be nice to have whitestone but they had a bunch of issues with with the 3/3XL. They cheapened their loca so there was tons of spider webbing and lifting for many.

I had to turn the phone in such a way to get the halo noticeable, ,but yes, in this price range I would have preferred the Whitestone for 100% sure.
This top with no protection bothers me extremely.
This picture isn't very good but these fit great with no halo at all. You get 3 in a pack and it also comes with an installation tray. This one has been on for 2 month and they're only $8.99 for the 3 pack.

I doubt you'll find one that does, the Soli sensor doesn't work very well through a screen protector. Most protectors also don't cover the camera.

I meant for there to be cutouts instead. I'm waiting for intelliglass 3rd revision for their tempered glass at the moment. it covers the full screen ?

Gotcha, I just don't like the feel of the little tabs of glass with the little cutouts at the top.
