[Question] Always on display support? - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

As per topic..
anyone knows or have a single bit of idea is native always on display is ever gonna come for this device ?

7T does not have it as well. So my guess: nope.
Which is really amazing/pitiful imho

I wouldn't hold your breath...

very bumped ...
no AOD no notification lights ...
at least what they can do is make the ring pulsate in shorter intervals..
how can anyone know if there is any missed calls or msgs if the phone is not picked up.
remembered they mentioned it was coming.. in May ? June? ...

I use an app called always on amoled it can uses a bit of battery though but it's the closest I've found to something similar to what Samsung has.

Oh really? That's strange mine is fine. I have the T-Mobile variant btw.

Pixel pulse was my go to alternative for AOD notifications but since it doesn't support 10 yet I just have to deal with missed notifications. First one plus device and probably my last. They make great devices if you SETTLE for less than what mid-range phones offer. I wish I had a Instagram and Twitter I'd call it the CEO. Tell him give us AOD if it takes up battery life that's our choice. It's ignorant honestly. Live and learn I guess. Back to LG or Samsung sadly next time I upgrade. 2 years probably

Use NotifyBuddy apk. You won't have google assistant via "ok google" but it's an option for now

i've d/led and unlocked it.
while it is nice with customisations and does the job.
it drains quite a lot of batt indeed..
and .. the device remains warm to the touch with it running..

I've no issue with it except for the Google assistant. See screenshot

Works great! I don't talk to my phone so I do not know if it will interfere with OK Google.

Is there a hack to make google now work when screen is off?

hi, I read that google now ("ok google") only activates when the screen is on. I was wondering if theres a hack or setting somewhere where you can activate it with the screen off? I mostly want this for hands-free use in the car, so I can avoid having to touch the phone while driving (big no no).
also, is there a site somewhere explaining all the features of what you can say/ask google now? or even a link with comparisons between siri and google now, and what google now cant do that siri does? I ask this cuz ill be coming from iPhone.
thanks.
I think that would really drain the battery - if possible!
However, here is a collection on some of the commands you can ask google now:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1961636
I'm really surprised how great it works! And i live in Denmark, where i can't even take full use of everything
samsung has had this with s-voice. and i think motorola enabled google now to do this on the motox but i'm not sure. yes it drains battery, but how much? depends on the cpu and driver and the software involved..... i don't have my nexus yet so i can't say "how" to do this but i would expect it to be an eventual custom feature if not a future update if it's not already in a setting somewhere.

Everything I've read has claimed that the Nexus 5 should handle this as well as MotoX since it has the Snapdragon 800. Have we ever gotten an official answer on why this won't work?

hey thanks for the link. battery drain wouldn't be too much of an issue, as usually I would just use it while the device is being charged in my car, but it would be nice to use sometimes without as well, and while leaving the screen on would be nice, a slow charging car charger, is going to charge faster with the screen off, as that's usually the most power hungry lol. so it would be nice to have the voice activation at will while using.
If some of the launcher/search code was open source, I'd imagine this would be quite easy to do.
Pretty sure I read somewhere that the 'always listening' (for "OK Google" command) requires some hardware functionality. So no, it would not be possible like it is on the Moto X.

i'd imagine you could port parts of the moto x rom into the nexus. things like this have been done before. just have to find all the dependancies.

I mean, if you had access to the facilities used by the n5 launcher source, you could likely utilize them when screen is off via software pretty easily.

Yes. But from what I understand the snapdragon 800 has that hardware built in.

Video is about 1/2 way down on the right. Processor is capable.
Lets see if I can't clear things up. If you want your phone to be always listening, you need hardware support for it unless you want your phone to die in a matter of hours. If you are okay with this , check out this app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.RSen.OpenMic.Pheonix It also lets you configure things like only when charging or just when the screen is on to save some battery, and its actually a very nice app overall. Worth checking out.
The Moto x has a special custom chip set that allows for this always listening. Any attempt to port that feature from the Moto x would fail, as the Nexus 5 doesn't have the same chip set. The nexus 5 however, does have hardware that allows for always listening, its part of the Snapdragon 800 SOC that powers this phone, along with the Note 3 and LG G2.
But getting the feature to actually work on our phones, even with the hardware, is by no means an easy task. Read the comments on this post if you want to get an idea for what this entails. https://plus.google.com/112424215551484520138/posts/AznwFxbBapJ
So is it possible? Yes. But it is not something that is gonna be a quick easy port of small modification of an existing app, it would take some real serious work form (maybe a team even of) good Dev's to make this function.
Sorry if its not the news you wanted to hear.

If you're plugged in/wireless charging Google Now Voice commands work with the screen off.
Settings>Language & Input > Voice Input> Enhanced Google services> "OK Google" Detection>From any screen> enabled
"responds to your voice. Works when the screen is on or the device is charging."
make sure the next option "personal results" is also enabled if you want Google Now to be able to do anything
Try this app, Open Mic+. It'll do the job.

Does 360 Hibernation Master app work on Marshmallow for Z5??

Joseph,
Thank you for offering. That's fine, as I do not plan to root the Xperia X Performance when I buy it this summer either.
I have a similar thread going for the X Performance, and a guy in that thread already verified that it DOES work on the Z5 running Marshmallow! I'd already tried this app before on my Z3 (I now have the S7, but don't want to keep it, so waiting for X Performance to come out this summer so I can switch my S7 for that). It worked perfectly, but it doesn't work on my S7. But the guy in the other thread CONFIRMED it DOES work on the Z5 with Marshmallow too!
I would highly recommend Joseph that you skim through that thread, and then do yourself the favor of buying the full version of 360. You won't regret it. (But understand this app does not seem to work on Samsung phones for whatever reason. Not sure on others. Just know it does for Sony Xperia.)
Let me know if you do, how it goes, how you like it, and if ANY issues arise from having 360 on your phone.

No problem. Just remember to enable EVERYTHING in 360, get the full paid version, leave phone on but screen off (and NOT plugged in) overnight, and take note of what percentage the battery is at RIGHT before you go to bed, as well as first thing in the morning. See that thread for any other questions, and if not listed there, ask me here.
Thanks!!

Ok so on the Full version you had 0-1% battery loss overnight? Let me know please. And also how many hours was that?
If so, GREAT!! Yeah even 1% is a lot. lol You were probably like RIGHT on the border of that 1% when you went to bed.
It's not really called "Doze Mode". That's a Marshmallow thing. It's just the 360 app doin' its thing. lol

I agree. I'm COUNTING THE DAYS until X Perf is released. I hate that it's not 'til like June though. Wish it was May or even April. Don't know why Sony put it off so long? The Z5 came out like last Fall. April would be at least 5-6 months since the Z5's release, so that's when it should be coming out, not Summer. Sony needs to just release ONE phone a year and make it in the Spring cuz Spring is an awesome time to buy a new phone. Weather's getting warmer, women are wearin' less clothes, more fun outdoor stuff starts happening, etc! lol
I see this app is newer and has same UI with the one from you, also it has more downloaded and rated. I see your one didn't work on your S7, have you tried mine ever?

No I haven't, but I'll try it tonight and let you know tomorrow.
Yeah it's very similar to 360's UI.
What is the message about the CPU lock not working on non-rooted phones though?

360's CPU Hibernation Lock didn't need a root, so maybe we're thinking about something different?
So I tried the Hibernation Manager app last night on my S7. It unfortunately had no impact at all on the battery life (6 hours of sleep). It went down about 3-4%, which is the same it does without any "power saver" help. I will stop by my parents today and try putting it on their phone (Xperia Z1s). Then tomorrow I'll have them check and see if it did anything and get back to you. Hopefully it works on Sony Xperia phones at least.
Unfortunately, 360 Hibernation Master apparently DOES NOT work on the Xperia X series. I have no idea why. Sucks. Tried on my brand new int'l dual-SIM X Performance, and it didn't seem to do anything.
I tried out a couple other apps that were similar but they didn't seem to work either. So I guess for the time being anyway 360 is only for the Xperia Z series phones. FYI
However, Stamina Mode DOES seem to have been properly fixed, so you can still use that.
Note: Just remember that if you use the Visual Voicemail app that after turning off SM you will need to go into VV's settings and re-enable VV cuz it doesn't seem to do it automatically.

Bixby Voice update

Has anyone else gotten it and tried it out?
It's actually pretty great. It's a lot more conversational style than Google assistant. I've used it quite a few times to send texts etc and it dictates very well!!
Haven't tested out the voice unlock, I use fingerprint too much...
Did mine too, been playing with it the past couple hours... Not sure if I'll keep using it, but I'll give it a week and see? I like Google Assistant better, so far, but I like being able to turn on bluetooth and wifi with just saying. But, Bixby won't use my 3rd party music player, email, or SMS (text) app....So, that's useless for me.
Like I said, I'll give it a week and see?? It also depends on the battery usage too.
Oh yeah, didn't think about 3rd party stuff. That sucks.
I like the rewards points for doing stuff with it. Now they're giving points as Samsung pay points

Edit: Resolved - For over 10 years, I have been using the BACK button to close activities. All of them. When I want to return to the launcher, I just press BACK from withing the given app until I get 'back' to the launcher. Why wouldn't I do this? It's how you close an app. Well, I hit the HOME button instead of using BACK to exit the app gracefully like I do for all other apps I run.. and.. AOE works. I don't get it. I'm not much of an Android developer, and I hate everything Google has done to Android in the last 5 years, but what gives here? I assume (and I can see) that the backgroud service still runs after the activity closes, so why would I want to leave the activity open and return to the launcher without gracefully closing the current activity? Anyway.. if I leave the activity open, it seems to work as expected, but not if I close the activity. Go figure.

I am using Resurrection Remix 8.6.7 on OnePlus 7 Pro. I've tried Plus Beat, True Edge, and now Always On Edge. I can't get any of them to work. Plus Beat came the closest by repeatedly flashing the lock screen, but I really want to use AOE and I would like to see the edge 'horizon' lights. I've given AOE every permission and accessibility service I know how to, and it still does not work.
Is it possible to use AOE on One Plus 7 Pro with Resurrection Remix 8.6.7 (Android Q10 based, and goes on top of OOS 10.3.8)?

Probably a apk conflict or settings issue but I never found it... meh.

Lol, that's reassuring. A long history of fail.
I just looked over my settings and it should be active.
Damned if I see it anymore (it works for a couple days once, long, long ago).
I reset it to factory load, the only possible option left; no power management is active.
I'll double check my blocked apks just for amusement.
Guess I'll wait and see if this takes:laugh:
