Note 10 not auto-loading public wifi login pages - Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Questions & Answers

Its been going on for a few weeks now. Everytime I try to get on a public wifi, my wifi settings says its connected, but nothing loads. I was under the impression that since its the same hotspots I try most of the days(train station), maybe they're dead hotspots.
TIL that if you go to any non-https page. like example.com, or 8.8.8.8 it loads the login page.
But does anybody know why the phone stopped going to the login pages?
Things I tried already:
Restarted the phone
Forget the wifi accesspoint and try reconnecting
I had VPN(my paid vpn and secured wifi) ON in the beginning. Then I found out that, they(especially the secured vpn) didnt work wel
l with the public wifi. Now both of them are OFF. Even then my phone doesnt load them login pages.

i can never get my phone to load those pages either. If you go to the browser and type "192.168.1.1" that almost always works to get the login pages to pop up. never found a good way to get it to work automatically like it should though

I'm curious as well. My Note 10 use to do this but yesterday I tried to log into a guest network but didn't get a prompt to accept the terms.
I'm not sure if an update broke the functionality.

Help, internet works through tether but not on phone

So I deleted the registry key that blocks the ATT Fuze from using "internet sharing" (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings\ “ForceCellConnection”) and have been able to get online through USB, in fact I'm posting this while tethered.
The problem is that now, when try to use the internet on the phone itself, it always gives a gateway error 504
any idea what settings may have been changed??? Or how I get rid of error 504?? the phone connects but the internet doesnt work
I would just restore the registry through a hard reset
Do I have to unlock the phone again after a hard reset?
Internet stopped working on phone, only thing that gets online is weather from tf3d and activesync
Ok
After a hard reset, I'm back to square 1, internet explorer and opera keep getting error 504 gaateway timeout, but I'm using the phone internet sharing to post this....whats going on????
Im using an unlocked Fuze on Tmobile network using the internet2.voicestream.com APN
Am i the only one with this problem???
I thought I may have ****ed something up when I was trying to do internet sharing, I tried to sue ICScontrol app, but like I said. I did a hard reset and it still giving me gateway error 504
My email and activesync work fine, I can even get online through internet sharing....but not on the actual phone!!!
I talked to tech support and they were no help, I tried all the tmobile APNs but no luck, oddly enough the internet did work on my unlocked Iphone
What's going on?? Should I flash a new rom??
I'd be willing to bet that it's an IP address issue. I had the same symptoms after some problems with programs that automatically configured the phone's network adapters (which ICSControl does). Why a hard reset didn't fix it I can't even begin to imagine, though. My problem was that in the network adapter settings the phone was assigned a static IP on one of the adapters (I don't recall which one). I changed it to acquire an address from the server and was able to get back online.
Im still having this issue
Im connected through internet sharing right now, email works on phone and activesync works
but when i try to use a web app or browser, it times out
where can i check to "get ip from server??"
I upgraded to a newer rom and still same issue, dont know whats going on and im going crazy
someone please help

Start>Settings>Connections Tab>Wi-Fi>Network Adapters Tab
Select the network adapter and select "Use server-assigned IP address".
As I said before, I don't recall which network adapter was giving me trouble. Definitely hit the wifi adapter and the NDIS adapter(s). To be honest, though, if you've done a hard reset and even changed ROMs it doesn't sound like this is your problem (unless you keep recreating the problem somehow).
Turns out it was a server side error from tmobile
I was finally able to reach an english speaking tech and he had me change the APN to the VPN service apn and just added that to my line, he said a lot of people were having this problem

School wifi problem

Just got my Samsung Captivate about a month and I got my wifi connected to the school network, but when i open the broswer or any apps need internet i didnt get any connections? at the first week it works.. and when connecting to the school wifi it should be come out with the school login page,, then the internet will work.. however the wifi is connected doesnt matter how strong the wifi singal is.. it just cant load and cant bring me to the login page..
I really need help..
and the wifi works everywhere.. except my school...
btw my friends iphone 3gs works..
I am also at college and have had the same problem. the best reason I have found is the phone itself. half of our wifi is an older standard that does not work on the phone. it shows up as wep and i can not get it to recognize it as 802.1x . in my tinkering I have also messed up the wifi that was working.
long story short it probably won't work. I have spent a long time trying to get it to work with no luck

Hello to both of you,
I also attend a college with an 802.1x connection and the captivate supports most of these networks; however you will probably need to configure the network settings manually (usually retrievable on your schools IT site). If you dont mind digging up your settings I would love to check to see if I can configure your phone.
FYI, you might be having a problem similar to what's seen in this post.
http://androidforums.com/captivate-support-troubleshooting/142397-odd-netmask-issues-wifi.html
I definitely had this problem today. It appeared connected but no web pages would load. Going to have to investigate further. Why can't things just work
I know my school recently implemented some new security certificates that you must agree to before logging in, has anything like that changed for you? My wife's Aria is running 2.2 and can log into the school network, but my captivate cannot. It is frustrating I know.
Seems some colleges and universities are noticing issues with android devices letting the DHCP leases to expire but keeps using the IP address assigned instead of requesting a new one.
See the following links.

I actually have similar issues with my Belkin wireless router at home. My laptops and other wireless devices have no problems connecting or re-connecting but the Captivate just refuses to re-connect after the connection was terminated. Even after resetting the router, the phone just keeps trying to use the same IP address for some reason.
The only way I could get it to reconnect is to either reboot the phone or to remove the AP entry which is a pain especially if you have wireless passwords.
Hopefully someone with better insight into how Eclair and Froyo handles WiFi can come up with some fix.
more solutions?
I believe the new 2.2 firmware solves this issue. I too am at College and my captivate FAILS to actually access the internet through wifi unless I statically assigned the IP.
I just updated to Froyo and it connected instantly. I'll have to do more testing to make sure, but I think Samsung finally fixed it.
captivate wifi issue at school
i just got Galaxy S (Captivate) and wi-fi is giving trouble.
when i tried at a university campus, it gives error and says can't open and try again later. it is like, i get connected to the network, IP and DNS and everything is generated. But when i open browser to open a website, instead of taking me to login page it gives the above error.
here is what i get when i try to open a website.
'web page not available'. the page might be temporarily down or it may have been moved permanently to new address.
here are some suggestions:
- check to make sure device has signal and data connection. (I made sure it is connected to wifi)
- reload page later. (i tried after 5 mins, same result)
- view cached copy from google. (doesn't work either)
i am not able to understand why is this happening. i tried restarting the phone after connecting to wifi but no luck. any pointers?
Sounds like they use a portal system which requires logon and doesn't play nice with the Captivate's browser. Unfortunately many such portal systems are written poorly and I've even seen some that only work with Internet Explorer.
You could try a different browser on the Captivate. Dolphin allows spoofing assorted User Agents, which might help.
Hey guys, I have the same problem connecting to m school's network login page. It would say connected but the website always says cant be found. But the good news is that I found a way to connect to it manually! What you need is your captivate and friends iphone 4 or 3gs. First have use your friends iphone to connect to the wifi and then go into wifi settings. You should see 2 DNS address, Ip address, netmask (subnet mask) and router address. Now jot those addresses down except the ip address. Go to settings->wireless and network->Wi-Fi settings->now tap the bottom left button under the samsung logo and click advanced. Now check use static ip. Do not enter anything for your ip address just yet (we will do this last). Now enter router address into gateway, subnet mask into netmask, DNS1 to DNS1 and DNS2 to DNS2. ok when you are done click back and tap the network you want to connect to. Once you are connected jot down your ip address by taping the network once more. now go back to where the static ip was and input the ip address you just jot down into the ip address underneath use static ip. Disconnect and reconnect to the desired network. You may have to do this a few times or reboot your phone. This has been working for me so far around different buildings but with the same school network connection. I hope this helps cheers!

Yeah, my school uses the Bradford dissovable agent. Funny thing is, some connections work perfectly, others not at all. Technically none should work, and sometimes I feel that maybe I should tell them that sometimes somehow it is possible to bypass the whole agent thing- but why rock the boat just yet
Does it need a proxy to work? If so, this app is amazing.

I figured it out a month ago, and it is actually petty easy. But you really have to change ip address manually, usually just the last number.

Got my GT7+ yesterday and have a couple questions. Brightness? WiFi?

Edit: This is the Galaxy Tab 7 Plus 4G w/ TMobile...
So far I am loving it. I have had a plethora of Android tablets, including the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (until yesterday), and the original 7" Tab. Here is an issue I have not run into thus far...
Issue 1: I like my brightness settings to be %100 all the time. I always (almost) have a power cable with me, so I'm not worried about the drain. I have the auto setting turned off as to keep it from adjusting on it's own. However, everytime I open the status menu with the brightness slider, it is down to about %90-%95. I can't get it to stay on full. Also, and even more annoying, every time I open the browser, the brightness drops to like %30'ish and I have to open the status menu and slide it back up. The browser is where I REALLY need the full brightness the most, and it's the biggest issue.
I noticed this out of the box, adjusted settings, nogo, so I factory reset, and same issue. This is leading me to believe this is just a setting or something I am missing. Any ideas?
Issue 2 (THE BIG ONE): This Tab 7+ can't see my work wifi. It connects to my wifi at home just fine (did last night at least), which is also WPA, but it doesn't even see the one at work. It acts like it isn't there. In fact, and this is probably important, it is not seeing any networks up here, and there are at least 10-15 that should be visible from my location in the building (all but a couple from other companies). My G2x (Android 2.3) is connected to my work wifi just fine, and it sees all the others around us, the the Tab 7+ right next to it sees none. I also turned on the wifi router on my phone, it will not see that one either. I've verified the wireless is enabled, as well as turning it off and on multiple times and many reboots, nogo... I need it to hit the wifi at work and home so it isn't sucking my 4G data, so this is a big issue for me.Any ideas? I'm at a loss...
Also, to answer before it's asked: Nope, it's not rooted. I may do this at some point (as I do most of my devices), but for the moment I want to leave it stock and not mess with it. These issues seem like they should be resolved/nonexistant in the stock ROM, so I shouldn't have to root to fix them. Please tell me if this is incorrect...
Thanks for any help, sorry for the long post...
(pardon typos, I'm at work and multitasking, no time to proofread)
on the brightness broweer tip. use a different browser. its a known issue that the stock browser automaticaly dims the screen.

Thank you... You're right, it doesn't happen in Dolphin, however I am one of those weird people the really prefers the stock browser...
The biggest issue is the wifi not showing up. I am updating that issue with more info now...
what channel is the wireless network on? i had a similar problem on my windows laptop, it cannot see the wifi.. turned out that my wireless card(the driver actually) cannot see any wireless network beyond channel 12.. who knows you're having the same problem, might worth checking.

Ours is on 6... Thanks though
for me it was the opposite, it could see my home wifi, but not my work.
only was to solve it was to setup a static ip at work for the GT7...
I called samsung, they said its a problem with some routers. No eta on fix other than static IP.

Just to chime in - I also have the same problem connecting to my work wireless network but I think because it uses a SEPARATE authentication scheme.
The way my office WLAN work is like this:
1). Connect to the WLAN with SSID "Office", no encryption password required
2). Once the Tab is connected, it WILL receive an IP address
3). Open up a browser (Dolphin, etc.) and try to go to any website (Google, etc.)
4). Instead of going to the website I typed in in no. 3, an authentication page will show up
5). I need to enter my Windows AD account and password
6). If its successful, then I can start browsing the Internet (but not going to the Internal network, that requires VPN access).
Step 3 is where the Tab FAILED to do so. It just doesn't want to get redirected to the authentication page.

Yep, same way for me at work. OP did you try to manually add the wireless info vs letting the tab "find" the access point?

Also, here is a strange thing. About 2 hours ago it notified me there were wireless networks in range, and then showed me 2 random networks from another office. Suddenly, it saw nothing again. Then about 5 minutes ago, while I was in the bathroom ( ), it suddenly showed me ALL of the surrounding networks. Yay! I tried to connect to the one I use, it took my password, but never even attempted to connect. Then, they are gone. Now it doesn't see them.
What. The. Fuuuudge.

Cannot connect to specific website on hotspot, but can on regular phone data

Here's what's happening, only since I've been trying to flash a custom ROM....never had this problem with this site before.
When connected to hostpot:
I go to a certain website, and it just saying "waiting for www....." it doesn't matter what browser I use.
When connected to other wifi hotposts like optimumwifi:
I go to the same website and it loads without any issues.
When I use my phones browser:
I go to the same website and it loads without any issues.
Someone please help, this is super annoying. Also, I should note that 99.999% of website are loading without issue.
My best guess is that HotSpot maybr blocking some sites, ut happens. I always use custom forced dns address. I prefer opendns
208.67.222.222 second can be blank or use Google 8.8.8.8.
There are free dns apps, or you can set advanced ip (static) under that wifi, but note that HotSpot ip usually changes.

Public WIFI spots connects but no internet

While my phone connects and shows an excellent connection it does not get internet. This is a new phone so have not tested it in very many places but at our condo clubhouse which my previous phone and a friends works fine I get a good connection but no internet. Today in Walmart I had a similar problem connection shows strong but when I try to get internet I get a box saying something like this may not be a secure connection or some similar warning (can't remember exact words)
I have looked all through settings and cannot find anything that I need to change.
Anyone know what could be the problem?
It looks like it's looking for the pop-up allowing you to connect and you're not seeing that pop-up. What browser are you using? If it's Chrome then download Opera or any other browser and see if it shows you the pop-up. Once you get in with another browser then any should work after that.

No popups on my clubhouse wifi needed. Tried it again this afternoon and this time I got a connection. I read in another forum that this can occur from time to time but no reason given.
I just hope it is not a frequent occurance.
