About a month ago I started getting the Moisture in USB port error all of the time. I promise, it wasn't wet. It persisted through 2 firmware updates and much time in hot, no humidity environments. Not the biggest problem in the word, because I anyway always just use wireless charging as default. But it did kind of freak me out none the less, and I wanted to backup all of my data and do a factory reset to see if this helped anything before trying to deal with warranty support for a possible broken USB port.
Eventually the port began thinking it was dry again, and I hooked it up to two different windows 10 computers, one windows 7 computer, and my Linux computer (which i have use many times in the past to transfer files with no problems). I reaaalllly don't think it's a driver issue, I promise this isn't a cable or computer USB port issue.
When I plug it in, the phone just starts charging, the computer acts as if nothing happened. the "adb devices" command yields no results. USB debugging is on.
I went into dev settings and made sure it was set to MTP by default. It was. I anyway tried all the same settings, with no luck.
Nothing changed on my computer, yet it no longer recognizes my phone, which is also unrecognized by any computer I try. The USB port works fine for charging now, and I have tried many cables.
Any ideas? Whenever I try to search about this all i get pretty much is "dId YoU tRy ReStArTiNg It???"
I really wanted to back up all my stuff and flash Lineage :/
In doing research about previous models of Galaxy having this same issue, it seems to largely be a software problem. I would like to try going into recovery and wiping some caches....which are safe to wipe without risking any meaningful data loss?

Hello, I have a Samsung focus that use to work fibe connecting to PC but off recent whenever I plug it in windows 7 says USB is not recognize.
I've tried everything from resetting the phone to refatting the computer nothing helps. I have a feeling its the phone because same problem on other computers, anyone had to problem and cured it?

or it might be a problem with your usb cable that came with the phone. if u can, try getting another one and using that (they go for very cheap on ebay). Have u *unlocked your device lately?
I've tried many different USB cables none works for me. I got the phone almost 2months now already unlocked. Live in UK and its a ATT branded phone so I'm abit screwed.

Have you tried the microsoft answers forum (answers.microsoft.com)? They have some solution wizards in one of the stickies near the top.
Did anyone ever find an answer to this? I've had my focus since Nov last year and it's worked fine for me aside from some odd, and random nonsense.
I went to go connect my phone to my laptop the other day and realized it didn't see my phone. When I plug it in, the phone chimes and shows it's getting power, but both my laptops show nothing being installed, Zune doesn't load, and if I load it, shows nothing connected. Nothing appears in the device manager either. I get no error message.
the cord shows no damage, and it's been plugged into my wall outlet for awhile. I guess i'm going to see about getting another cable tomorrow and try it that way?
Was wondering if anyone else has had a problem with the cable going bad suddenly, or if something else could be to blame? I've been reading here, MS's site and anywhere else I can, and I find things ranging from error message, drivers not installing and other things. I just know it worked fine a few weeks ago, but now...nothing.
Had the same issue. My 4th USB cable did the trick. I wanted to throw it out the window

I don't know much about electricity, but every device I can remember having with a removable charger: instructions said Plug power cord into Device FIRST, then Plug into Power Source. Could leaving cord plugged into power source, thus reversing above instruction, cause a problem with the cord?
I am trying to connect via USB to my PC, not having much luck. I've tried several micro USB cables, and tried plugging them into every USB port on my PC.
When I plug in, and view "Devices and Printers" in Windows 7 32-bit, I can see a total of 6 LG devices show up:
LG Android Phone
LGE p999DW USB Device
LG Android (modem)
LG Android (NMEA)
LG Android (Serial)
Android Sooner Single ADB Interface
But literally every second some of them fall off the list and some reappear, sometimes they are all present for 1 second, sometimes none of them are present, and every combination in between.
I have no ideas left here. Uninstalled the LG driver from control panel, and reinstalled. Tried brushing out the USB port on the phone, as well as the old NES 8-bit blow method, no luck. Lots of cables tried all of which have worked in the past, no luck. Anyone have any thoughts?
Put the phone in apx mode by taking out the battery, holding vol +/-, plugging in the phone and waiting until the driver is ready.
Apx mode won't reconnect if dropped. .. I would guess a bad USB connector if the problem exists.
Also if the PC is overclocked turn that off. It messes with USB.

sound like a connection problem, either with the cable or your physical port on the computer
So it's connecting fine in APX mode, it stays connected in Devices & Printers. But I can't run the LG Mobile Support Tool from there, I've got to boot into Android. As soon as I boot into Android and connect USB, it's dropping the various device profiles in and out of Devices & Printers ever second.
Does it seems odd that I get a good solid connection in APX mode, but not when connecting with Android booted? Seems if the problem was with the USB connector on the phone, it would be an issue all the time.
Any other suggestions? I've tried going back to stock recovery and stock ROM, same issue. I'm really just trying to get the baseband update.

So you can safely say that the connector is good and cable its good. This suggests a software problem... either in Android or PC.
You can try the cleanup batch tool but I doubt it would solve the issue. Does not hurt to try though.

Are all of your Lg Drivers up to date?
No luck there either. Seems like a hardware problem, but it works fine in APX, only cutting in and out once Android boots.
I've been having the exact same issue.

Great, we've got strength in numbers!
So I've tried everything. I've flashed to stock recovery and OS, uninstalled the LG driver and reinstalled, multiple USB cables, different machines, USB debugging on/off, and every combination of things I can think of.
Sucks if if it's a hardware issue. Out of warranty period and I don't want to pay $130 or whatever the insurance deductible is for something so small... but I can't get 2.3.4 loaded without getting USB connected.
I'd be sure it's a USB connection problem, if I didn't get a smooth steady connection in APX mode. I've used NVFlash several times without issue.
Yeah I've only noticed it since i got the 2.3.4 update.
I've tried all my usb ports, and it will pop-up.
Last night i finally got it to let me decide to turn usb mass storage on but when I opened my computer nothing was showing up.
Just got a replacement g2x today after a long battle with my old one's usb port. When i was troubleshooting, I found that vmware and blackberry drivers can cause conflicts.
Try plugging in the phone and removing the drivers for all the LG devices you see in device manager.
btw... brand new replacement phone, if i move it the slightest bit while connected windows will play the disconnect/reconnect sound. I think LH just screwed up in the port design...
There's a funky greenish sticker around the usb port on this new one. Not sure what thats all about... cant tell if this is a refurb either.
Finally got mine to stop. I did a system restore on my laptop and it was good
@captmorganz the green sticker was on both my originals, and to check for the refurbished or not there is a code on the back under the battery by the screws that shows p999dw for original and something close but another letter at the end for refurbished, can't think right now since I've been at work for about 15 hours doing nothing and drinking coffee for the past 5 haha, excuse the rant.

I'm in a quandry. I've had my Samsung Droid Charge for 2 years and while I qualify for an upgrade, I thought to myself it's time to root and see what this thing can do (and hopefully get some extended life out of it).
So I read thru a lot of root threads and how-to's, and was about ready to start setting up, went to connect my phone to my computer with the USB cable that came with the phone (which I have also used for 2 yrs) and lo and behold, there's no connection to the computer. Computer recognizes something trying to connect via USB, but notification on the computer that pops up says "USB Device Not Recognized." Now, when I used to connect to any computer, a screen on my phone would come on asking if I wanted to connect the phone as a mass storage device or media player. That screen doesn't come up any more when I plug in the USB. The phone beeps as if it was connecting but then just indicates that it is charging. I've never had any issues with this before.
I've gone thru the rigamorole of trying different USB ports, different computers, different USB cables. Nothing doing on any of those. Tried setting the phone on "ask on connection" and "mass storage" on different computers. Nothing there either. Tried with USB debugging on and off on the phone. No dice. I have even tried a couple of complete hard resets of the phone, and still will not connect to any computer. Based on some info from other forums I even tried downloading some Samsung USB drivers to my computer (which I never had before and had no problem connecting without), and they don't even seem to install properly. message I get when the install finishes says "Device driver was not successfully installed" and then just shows a list of my printer drivers????? My printers work fine - don't know what the hell that Samsung's Mobile Phone driver has to do with our HP printer.
Spent 45 useless minutes at the Verizon store yesterday only to have their "tech" guy do another master reset, and finally give me the toll free number to Verizon and tell me it was their tech support number. Spent another hour on the phone when i eventually got to a tech support person only to be told that I'm eligble for an upgrade.
Part of the reason I started this process was that after two years, the original battery was draining really quickly with minimal use, and the battery power screen that shows during the charge cycle (with power off) was looking weird - it was showing battery with no charge, then all of a sudden would show partial depending on how long it was connected. Maybe thats what it's always done, but for some reason it looks different to my. So I purchased a brand new battery. For a couple of days it "seemed" like the new battery was holding power, but when I go to charge it, that charge screen is still doing the same thing. On top of that the last two days my battery drained really quickly again, with very minimal use (Went from full charge at the start of the day to about 50% after 5 hours just checking a few texts and emails). I don't know if that factors into why it's not connecting to the computer, but I find it unlikely that both the connection and battery problems are coincidental.
Anyone have any ideas for me at this point? Frustrated by having spent waaaaaaay too much time on this already. I'd really like to go root, but I don't see how unless I can determine how to get this thing to connect to a computer again.
I wish I could help but I'm not a real big phone Tech. I did root and install Tweaked on my wife's Samsung Charge FP8 last night. I'm not trying to throw that in your face because I did have some issues as well. I did have to install Samsung drivers. My windows 8 never told me if it installed correctly so I had to play around with the install until Odin recognized my phone. You may have to plug your phone in and go to device manager on the computer and uninstall any drivers associated with it. My computer would say "removable storage" when the phone was plugged in. Please ask any questions or private message me. I swear my wife's phone runs and looks great now. She was getting tired of it until I got my hands on it, lol. Good luck.

So recently I started having this problem. My Nexus 5 stopped charging all of a sudden.
After messing around I found out that I could charge the phone when it is turned off, but when I boot it (while connected) it doesn't show the charging icon. Only when looking up the battery status at the setting menu it says charging.
To my surprise fastboot was still working (adb wasnt) what brought me to think it's not the hardware.
So far I have done a factory reset, wiped everything, installed stock kernel and recovery, downgraded to stock 5.0 (I don't even know why, just thought its worth a shot...).
At some point I took the phone apart to try to determine whether I tore out the connector itself, and noticed nothing.
I'm really running out of ideas here... I can live with having to reboot the phone for charging, but I really need it to connect to the computer.
Any help will be appreciated!
You tried different USB cables and chargers? USB debugging enabled? Computer is a trusted machine in adb?
I have 2 computers on which adb is trusted. Both stopped working. I tried a few cables, all of them worked with another phone, but did not with mine.
Adb is enabled. :/
Did you try revoking all computers and re-establishing trust after flashing a stock ROM?
Strange that fastboot commands work and adb doesn't.
Nope, but I tried connecting to another one and no dialog popped up.
Btw, an hour ago it just started working... All of a sudden...
I should be happy, but now I have no chance in finding what was the problem.
Anyways thank you for now, if I have any more issues I'll update.
I assume it's physical damage to the usb board/module (since it started working while no change to the software was done in the past few days).
I will order a new one just in case.
Thank you again guys!
Maybe a loose internal connection? You could try removing the back to looking for loose connections.
Did so, didn't notice anything strange.
I do have experience with soldering, but I would rather not touch it before I get a new one, just in case I screw up. Small components are no fun.
The thing that still bugs me though is I had fastboot working perfectly fine all that time. Oh well
I don't want to get burn in on my phone, but I tried for 6 hours today to get this rooted and it was just one problem after another, most of which I see have barely happened to anyone. Between driver errors, installing driver errors, unauthorized adb errors, some strange error with a missing key or something, and it saying it's waiting for a device when attempting to run the boot image, I had to give up because everyone around me was getting annoyed by how much time I spent on it. A simple guide of maybe five things I had to do turned into a huge rabbit hole, it even resulted in my phone inconspicuously seeming as though it's bricked for a few hours for some reason.
So my question is, is there anything I can do? I'm a gamer, and I have OCD to boot, so when I see those damn icons burnt into my screen when playing something, it's gonna kill me. Is Tasker an option? Man, this was much easier on IOS, surprisingly.
Well first off, it would help it you told us what os is on your computer..

Oh, sorry about that. Windows 10 Home. It's a couple years old now. An Acer Aspire 5. It has been giving me driver troubles for a long time, which would explain why it's made it so difficult to root.
The "waiting for device" is symptomatic of a missing driver.
There's a number of threads on installing drivers/connecting to PC in https://forum.xda-developers.com/f/oneplus-8t-guides-news-discussion.11585/
I even write one of them with lots of screenshots.
If none of them work then I suggest you have issues with your PC or, if you can't see your phone at all using MTP, your physical contention between the phone and PC.
Have you tried using a different USB port and USB cable? It's possible the port/usb cable is damaged and causing issues. swap both with a different USB Cable, make sure it's a thicker cable and not a cheap one. if you're using the C to C cable that comes with the phone, try using a USB C to USB A adapter.
Download full android SDK. Works for me every time.
