Screen protectors with black edges - Redmi K20 / Xiaomi Mi 9T Accessories

Has anyone used these screen protectors which have black edges?
Do they block the proximity and ambient light sensors on our device?

I have one and everything is ok with sensors and stuff...
But that black edges shrinks the screen, because the complete glass is a little smaller then the screen,at least this one I have...maybe there are better ones...

Can you make a photo of your screen while it's on? Curious how much is that

No a screen protector is transparant, so it will let all light go trough.
Don't be afraid it will still work.
Try calling anyone, hold u phone near ur head, the screen will go off, and after, it will go on again
The proximity sensor does not depend on light to work though, try your phone in complete darkness and you're proximity sensor will still work.
no mine has worked perfectly with a screen protector since i have got the phone
Thanks for all the reply!!
It was very hard finding SP that covers the whole screen but with a small opening on the upper left for the sensor.. now I'll just get those that covers the whole screen

[Q] Proximity sensor issues with flap case

I bought three N5 for my parents and myself. The flap cases for the first two of them work well: when the flap is lifted up, the screen wakes up; when the flap is folded, the screen shuts down. However, the third one doesn't work well. Sometimes it works like the other two, but most time it doesn't.
The proximity sensor works well when I make calls. I also installed "Proximity sensor finder" to test the sensor, which actually detects the case accurately. But for some reason I don't know, the Android system doesn't shut down the screen even when the sensor detects a folded case. Anybody knows what the problem might be and how to fix it? Thanks.
Most proximity sensor cases have a magnet near where the volume rocker is. Do all three of your cases have that?
No, none of them has a magnet.

Would the phone in question happen to have a screen protector? Sometimes the screen protector can cause this issue if it isn't installed correctly. Make sure the proximity sensor/light sensor isn't covered by the screen protector.

They have to. That's the way they turn off the screen. It's not the same sensor that turns off the screen when you're on the phone.
Yes, there is a screen protector, which has a whole at the location of the proximity sensor, so it shouldn't be a problem. What baffles me is that "Proximity sensor finder" is able to detect the case cover accurately, but the system cannot respond correctly.

I see. This explains the problem. It seems that the tiny magnet in my case is not effective as it doesn't fold perfectly. Thanks a lot!

If you're 100% sure that the screen protector isn't obstructing the sensor then I would then clean around the area where the sensor is with a micro fiber cloth. If that doesn't doing anything then I would temporary switch the flip case with the one on your parents N5. It is possible that the case on one phone can be faulty. If that still doesn't work then I'd factory reset the phone.
And if that doesn't work... I'd get a warranty replacement. More than likely you have a faulty case.

Its not relevant. They don't work with proximity. They use the hall effect magnetic sensor

You're actually right come to think of it.

I think I should blame the faulty case, as jd1639 and rootSU also pointed out. The magnet in the case is not effective. I believe what jd1639 has said, screen on/off during calls uses proximity sensor, but the response to case flap relies on magnet.

Screen protector on phone in box? Can we remove it?

Hi,
Just got this phone and I can't be 100% if it has a screen protector fitted to it already or it is one of the normal in box protectors just a bit thicker.
I don't really like it to be honest - I normally don't use screen protectors so wonder if someone removed it from theirs and how it is.
Thanks

It's a factory installed screen protector.. If I'm not mistaken, most honor phones come with one installed.. Like the 7x as well.. Up to you if you want to remove it..

Cheers, that's what I suspected..
The screen feels too resistant and a bit like an old tactile touch screen instead of a smooth 2018 screen with it on.
. I'll try it for a few days before I decide to take it off or not.

If you're on the latest 130 firmware version, touch sensitivity has gone down from the factory 100 version. It might not be the SP fault for low sensitivity..

I have removed it. It feels poly film type and not confident that it will provide any protection. Instead I bought teslar 3D screen guard and it worked well

Without the poly film screen is better. In fact with poly film the touches were sometimes not working and was not that smooth. For better experience you should remove it and use the phone or use any screen protector. Honor can ship something better in future.
The back cover is fine though and looks good with phone
On my phone the screen protector is not applied properly. It is at a slight angle so there is a small gap on the top half between the protector and the edge of the screen. That makes a sliver of brighter screen; it looks a bit weird.
I've just noticed how dirty this screen protector gets. It seems to catch fingerprints into a dull grey film and it doesn't wipe easily. I will have to remove the thing.

I removed mine and i tell u the screen is much better without it. The original screen does not keep finger prints, it gradually fades away.

green tint

Anyone else got green tint on their display? Doesn't bother me when not using dark mode but it's annoying. Is it hardware problem or can it be fixed with a future update?

are you sure it isnt some sort of reflection from the pre-applied glass protector the phone comes with?

Mine got the gradually increasing green-tint from top to bottom on some dark grey background, but it turns out that the tint is miui 12 dark-mode itself. Its the default color-gradient i think. On image or games it did not happen, and im sure it is intended to be that way.
Are yours had green-tint all over the display? If so, you can always try to reduce the green color in advanced color settings. Or else just claim replacement on warranty i guess.

I did wonder if it were the default colour gradient. I can only see it on dark grey backgrounds, for example XDA labs shows it. I have it horizontally across the top (1cm below status bar?)
One plus more has same problem I guess.
I don't know exactly but last day I faced 3 problem but tinting..might be my mistake by I saw a greenish tint slightly..
I've still got the screen protector which is came from factory... guess I'll have to change it too..
No green tint here. It was the first thing I check when I get the phone.
Same here. green tint on low brightness and dark colors. It's annoying AF

I dont see it on XDA Labs, but I do encounter it randomly, especially when brightness gets lower. Weird, but doesnt really bother me since I've ran lot of display tester app from play store and I cant spot any fault on mine. Thats how i draw my conclusion that it could be just the UI feature/bug.

check if the tempered glass is not at top, i do and my proximity sensor stop working, then moved down the tempered glass and work again.
I use tempered glass full coverage and no problem with proximity sensor.
With my Sony phone, I got a screen protector applied by a phone stall employee in a mall, however it seemed that they didn't have the specific type for my phone and so the protector they applied was covering half my proximity sensor located on the left of my top speaker and brand logo. That's when I noticed having calling problems such as when I dial or call someone, my phone screen immediately turns black and it doesn't want to turn on even when I press the power button. So what I did after much thinking, I just went for it and broke off the piece of screen protector that was blocking my sensor. Worked 100%
