[ROOT] How to root with latest N firmware NPJ25.93-11 and NPJ25.93-14
Hello,
Because it seems that all previous root method don't work with this new release, here is a method with have be approved ok on XT6143.
Prerequisites:
- Unlocked bootloader
- Android debug enabled in dev options
- adb and fastboot usage
- Worked only on the NPJ25.93-11 or NPJ25.93-14build
> you can flash it with thoses tutos:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/install-official-firmware-soak-test-t3531296
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/android-7-0-install-nougat-official-t3531612
Procedure:
- Download my file superboot-athene_NPJ25.93-11_eng-noverity.img
or superboot-athene_NPJ25.93-14_eng-noverity.img
on your PC
- Reboot your phone via combo key or adb into fastboot mode
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
- Boot the superboot with the command
Code:
fastboot boot superboot-athene_NPJ25.93-11_eng-noverity.img
or
Code:
fastboot boot superboot-athene_NPJ25.93-14_eng-noverity.img
- Go to Play Store, and install phh's SuperUser
- You should have root
Warning & attentions
- This is a temporary root, if you reboot your device, root will be lost (you have to boot the superboot img again)
- You can try to flash this superboot to get permanent root with
Code:
fastboot flash boot superboot-athene_NPJ25.93-11_eng-noverity.img
but it seems it doesn't work/the bootloader don't allow it on many variant
+1 booting the img file worked. Sadly flashing it didn't.
Hey guys, has anybody come up with a stable way of rooting the athene (Moto G4 Plus)? Wanna try the RR on it, but i am quite new to Motorola and the series of threads that i have read through doesn't actually give a specific guide to get done with it (seen many people ending up with a bootloop). And as i can see, there are not many posts on the latest NPJ25.93-11 build (i got my phone yesterday). Should i go with a guide and root it or wait some more time for a stable guide?

This is for last Nougat update, it's stable but you have to flash the root image every time you turn off you phone, it works like a temporal root.

Thanks for the reply. But can i install the Resurrection Remix ROM with a temporary root through flashify? as i understand with my little knowledge, it reboots to recovery to install the ROM and if the root is broken with that, does it affect the installation? I just don't want to end up with a fully bricked device on the second day xD so just making sure

Well you can try RR by flashing custom recovery (TWRP) . Root is not needed in that process.
I think waiting for stable version would be a better idea. Can you confirm about xposed on official Nougat, without xposed rooting is a waste for me?

Just to confirm, i need to unlock bootloader to install TWRP and i can install RR directly.. and i don't need to root my phone to install a custom ROM?
EDIT: Googled, Figured it out *Feels Dumb* xD

Currently, i just want to root my phone to install the resurrection remix rom.. if i don't need root for that, i might as well just skip the root part

Yep need to unlock bootloader and install twrp. Unlocking it will erase data though.
Hi, does systemless magisk root work with the latest official build? I rooted the first soak test using this method.
Edit: Found answer elsewhere - causes bootloop for anyone wondering
FYI
How can I disable secure-mode from fastboot?
Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>mfastboot [B]flash[/B] boot superboot.img
target max-sparse-size: 256MB
sending 'boot' (12092 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.407s]
writing 'boot'...
FAILED (status read failed (Too many links))

I've installed NPJ25.75-2 and now can't install this update from stock recovery.

I don't think you can
As Systemless Rooting modifies boot.img,
On stock boot.img it causes weird problem, so possible to root with Custom boot..?
I tried flashing Custom kernals available here, it cause bootloop, can you try making supported kernel for nougat and try root on it...?
I have no knowledge about how it works, it's just thought came in my mind...

Where do I find the new logo 7.0 in bin format? I want to remove the warning
I am on open beta 6 (pie) with unlocked bootloader and I want to flash twrp and root my phone , can someone tell me how to do it right way , cos once I tried and ended up with warning screen from Qualcomm
If you go into the section right underneath this one, Guides etc. There's a few guides to get you back on track.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=27466#downloads
You need latest Blu spark twrp to make it work.
Like the guide you are reading (I guess)
Fastboot boot Blu_spark.twrp.img
In twrp flash Blu_spark.twrp.zip
Reboot to twrp
Flash magisk
So the issue here was u probably used stock twrp

Thank you , it worked , I was scared that I will break my phone again , Yes i used stuck twrp not blu spark , thx dear
Seems this thread is finished and I would like to sneak a question in on rooting,,,,,, Its been a while since I have rooted being pre-magisk, has it gotten easier to receive OTA updates and security patches? And use Google Pay?
As I recently succeeded in getting my first ota update done on this phone, I have used it to create a fastboot rom by extraction from my own phone.
There are 2 important points to note:
1] This is not an official rom, it is just an extracted one. It has been tested by extracting it from one slot and flashing it to the other where it worked perfectly, so there is no reason it shouldn't work for you but I can't guarantee it. Make sure you have a way of getting back to where you started from before you choose to use it.
2] I have included both a patched and a stock boot.img in the zip. You MUST remove the one you don't want before you flash, otherwise this is not going to work at all. My phone is rooted so I have tested the patched boot image, but not the stock boot as I have no use for it.
If it sounds too risky for you then wait a couple of weeks and hopefully Xiaomi will produce an official version.
So with those warnings out of the way, here is the link - hope it works for you.

After Update ...
fastboot boot patched_boot.img
Open Magisk -> Install -> Install direct
There ist an error:

What can I do?
Magisk: v18.1 (18100)
Magisk Manager: v7.1.1 (203)
---------- Post added at 10:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:36 PM ----------
I have now flashed the original boot.img.
Root still works.
New Magisk feature?
how flash fastboot?
Can you pls upload the boot.img s separately? (patched and stock if possible) Thx
I flashed my galaxy j7 nxt with oreo 8.1 stock ROM and after that when ever I try to flash a TWRP recovery it only appears only one time and then when I try again to boot into recovery it just goes to stock recovery...I tried more than about 25 time to flash and use twrp...but when I boot into twrp it shows 0 mb internal storage and I have to format the device...I want to set twrp and root my device for flashing a custom rom ...I even tried ADB but It didn't work either...I'm just a beginner in XDA...I hope you'll help me to solve this problem...
Thanks in advance DEVs
