Who has converted their TMobile to international? - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

If so is the guide as simple as it seems? Any issues? Is it now 100% an international? I see lots of dual SIM trays online which one is correct? Would love to pop my work sim in it.

Converting worked fine for me. I ordered a couple of dual-SIM trays while I was waiting for it to be unlocked. By the time my device was SIM unlocked, I had the dual-SIM trays and converting went fairly smooth. I had some minor issues with the MSM Tool recognizing my device in EDL but using the CAB drivers solved that for me. The only thing you need to be aware of, is that both SIM slots share the same IMEI. On some carriers networks, having two SIM's for the same carrier with the same IMEI will get the device flagged.

Yes. The hardware is the same. It's just SIM 1 and SIM 2 will share the same IMEI when converting from a carrier sold device where the ones sold from OnePlus will have a different IMEI for each SIM slot.

Same IMEI on say T-Mobile and Verizon won't cause problems will it?

No. If you were using two Verizon SIM's, it might be. Sprint definitely doesn't like two of the same IMEI showing up on their network.

I bought two of these because the price was right and they arrived within a few days of my order being processed. They fit and work perfectly and match the Mirror Grey of my device perfectly as well.

Mine was sum unlocked and was able to convert to international. Also took the Android 10 update.

I converted mine and it was fairly easy. I did it mainly because I wanted to use the oxygenupdater to get the most recent updates. I did not root the phone nor did I have any intention of doing so.

I unlocked and converted mine. No issues. I want to sell it, actually.

The process is fairly easy if you want a straight conversion without worrying about the SIM or bootloader unlock(s). Unlocking either the SIM or the bootloader adds a few steps but it still isn't all that bad. I haven't personally had any issues that I feel are directly related to the conversion per-se. OxygenOS 10 (Android 10) is a bit wonky at times but otherwise everything is in the clear.
I WILL say after trying both that I feel like the AA (International/Global) OxygenOS 10 build is much more stable/optimized than the BA (EU) build appears to be.

Nothing wrong with the phone, I'm just ready to move on. I actually want to take my chances with the Huawei Mate 30. I change phones often. This oneplus is my sixth phone since I bought the Mate 20 Pro last October.

I did that for a while after retiring my Nexus 6P. It is hard to find another device that I really like enough to use it for more than 6 months. After going through an LG V30, two S9 Plus (wanted the grey but originally bought the purple), and a Note 9. Outside of the camera image quality and lack of a headphone jack, I am fairly happy with my OnePlus 7 Pro. The 1440p screen at 90Hz really makes it hard to go to anything else. The Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha looks pretty darn sweet though.

I have a 90hz screen and keep it on 60hz I went from the V30 to the Mate 20 Pro. One of my favorites that I would actually buy now as a back up is the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. I really liked that one for some reason. Maybe the ceramic build, the weight of it, the tremendous battery life with a not so big battery.

OnePlus 7 Pro 5g (EE UK) - Battery drain

Hi all,
I am currently on the right mood to bring it back on Monday.
NO APPS installed except WhatsApp and drains battery like hell.
Doesn't get to 6hrs screen time.
Disabled dc dimming, wifi scan and everything else the web might have mentioned about saving battery.
Even blocked Google Play Services from accessing gps (as last test).
Apparently there is no app sucking more than the others, it is just what you use that drains way too much battery.
FYI I am in London with no 5g coverage (north London), no network switch issues, indeed.
Last update has been installed.
Give your thoughts.
Fast-ip
Hi,
I'm in Manchester, but only issue I have had is lack of dual SIM function. Does yours have dual SIM? Thanks in advance.
No dual SIM here.
What about your battery?
Could you publish your screen on time etc?
Mine suffered from lots of phantom touches, requiring multiple reboots and was also single SIM.
I also complained to EE as they said on their website that the phone shipped with USB-C headphones, but nothing was included in the box.
...Mine has already been sent back; it's simply not worth the cost at the moment with the flakey camera, phantom touches & the relative lack of 5G coverage (I'm in West London so don't get 5G unless at work)
I phoned them this morning and they told me that the handset can be returned only IF has been pre-ordered. If bought in-store while it was in stock (test in store for them), then there is no 14/30 days return policy. Who did you buy it? Pre-order or store?

Mine was a pre-order, but also via their website, which means they have to honour the 14 days distance selling rules, even on an upgrade
If you're desperate to return, just say you are unhappy with the coverage. The store will then return it for you.
The fact that their is no dual SIM support is ridiculous. Battery life has been ok-ish for me, not great but not the worst I've seen. I missed the part on the EE website where it said "USB type-c headphones included" I might complain about that too. But for me, it's just the lack of clarity as to whether we can flash the latest firmware version from the OnePlus website as no sod knows who actually supports the device...EE or OnePlus...

At the end the situation got dramatically better switching to Nova Launcher. Unfortunately I don't want to root to drill down further but for now it is ok.
Hope that in future releases they fix its launcher.
i not had any issues with the 5g version apart from the general 7 Pro issues of ghost touch
only other issue I have is OnePlus alarm clock does not ring so have to use google clock

The no dual sim is due to X50, you may have noticed every Qualcomm 5G device is single sim. It was exactly the same when 4G launched.

nothing to do with EE or OnePlus.
What OP could have done is use google's esim capability.
It worked on Pixel 2 on EE.

Sadly they couldn't have done that on the 5G model either. No dual sim is a technical limitation of Qualcomms first gen 5G modems.

Sorry missed the point of your original post. Yes OnePlus could have chosen that option, although I don't believe there's much demand for a non DSDS solution. Might as well just swap physical sims in such circumstances.
Re dual sim- is it something that a dual sim adapter can fix? Or does this mean the hardware itself does not support dual sim? Could replacing ee-locked firmware with unlocked firmware fix it?

Hey, I pre-ordered as well but i cant find where on the website it mentioned the usb-c headphones, could you share the link please?
Also, my battery life seems fine to be honest, however, my internet simply does not work. It is constantly disconnecting and i dont know if anybody else is also experiencing this problem.
so just to confirm the phone does not have dual sim ability when purchased on EE?
I thought all oneplus devices were unlocked and came with the ability to use 2 sims.
The last oneplus phone i purchased i got from O2 and this was dual sim and unlocked.
can someone please clarify

OnePlus8 VZW Bootloader is Not Unlockable

Has anyone seen any difference in the bootloader, unlocking, rootability on the Verizon Version of the OnePlus 8. Anything in coding that speaks to a lock out from Big Red?
I heard about sign up and IMEI issues with the direct OnePlus buys although it seems the IMEI issue came across from the Verizon branded ones as well.
Thanks in advance for feedback!!!
Edit.... At this time OEM Unlock is Non-existent in the DEV Settings and Fastboot CMD does not Allow unlocking of the bootloader. Thanks All!!!

I hope that this thread gets some attention or there will be low sales for the Verizon version for root and custom ROM users.
Well if the 8 pro is anything like the 7 pro the bootloader unlock was really easy. There is a statement on DroidLife, com they are talking about unlocked OnePlus 8 phones and Verizon but it was yesterday and it might be fixed by now or real soon.
I have the T-Mobile oneplus 8 I could not network unlock my device not because I am on eip but because my phone is not showing up in their database... they questioned if I even got it through them, I gave them my order number and my IMEI and it was not coming up in their system

Same from the reports on VZW. Just wondering how that worked out with the device hardware modifications (assuming there actually are any. Think I may give it a whirl and return if its locked up.
I bought one from straight from oneplus themselves and even though I hadn't even inserted a SIM card yet, I couldn't unlock the bootloader (inserting one didn't change anything). I don't think this is specific to verizon, or perhaps somethings up. Anyone know what's going on? It's an IN21AA
Whatever... I'll bite the bullet. Just ordered one 5 minutes ago and I'll get it on the 6th. Let's see where we end up.
I won't be ordering one if the bootloader can not be unlocked any status updates would be great. The money off with a trade in for the Verizon one is hard to pass up then again the Oneplus Z is coming very soon and with a snapdragon 765G same chip the pixel 5 is rumored to have? move over pixel 4a screwed again.

For the unlocked models from oneplus I agree it's probably a bug. But the VZW branded 8 5G I don't think it is. Pixels even have a different bootloader than the unlocked ones and can't be unlocked if bought from Verizon. Maybe oneplus fought this but who knows Verizon has a lot of pull.

I know it's unlockable. But even people buying direct are having issues with the unlocked phones. If there is a way to unlock the bootloader like the VZW pixel keep the sim out turn it on use WiFi and maybe OEM unlocking isn't greyed out. But VZW will patch that real quick like they did with the pixels. I have a OnePlus 7 pro I have no problem waiting for the 8T or even the Z it's not much of an upgrade anyway the trade in deal was kinda hard to pass up when OnePlus trade in program doesn't give enough money at all. The VZW one was taking even pixel 2s which I have lying around so it was worth it.

Then I'd try a factory reset. There's no way the unlocked version won't let you unlock the bootloader. No chance. Mine was greyed out till I put a sim in and rebooted on my 8 Pro. and you can always return or exchange or get a refund ??
I read on DroidLife that the unlocked 8 and 8 pro are now certified on Verizon maybe people should work with the reps. to get the problem worked out. If the 8 pro is anything like the 7 pro it's going to be easy to unlock just use ADB.
So that's a definite? OnePlus 8 from red can not be bootloader unlocked? Even when paid off. Jus got mine 2day ago an that would blow

I'm not sure what phone you are using now. But I've had the 6, I've got the 7 pro now and both were easy to unlock using ADB and there were both on big red. But right now red had only the 8 pro 5G phone. I talked to a rep online she said was not sure when they were getting the 8 and 8 pro. I read that red was working on certifying unlocked 8 pro from oneplus but they also said it could be June. Let's hope it's sooner. Now I did have trouble with the 7 pro to get it to work on Verizon so I went to Verizon and they got it up and running. It was just a a couple of switches on there side.

Should I get the 7 pro or 8(non pro) TMobile?

I have the 8 right now but I'm still within the exchange period and really debating on if I should exchange it. Honestly I'm not the impressed. I feel like the brand isn't as amazing as it once was. I don't care about 5g because I'm connected to WiFi 90% of the day. I'm just thinking price point wise. I mean I can save like $200 if I go with the 7 pro if there isn't a huge difference. From what I have been reading the 7 pro might be better than the 8. Just looking for opinions.
If you don't care about 5G, OP7 Pro might be a better bang for the buck. Personally, I like screen without punch hole. I don't use front camera that much, so no issues with pop up camera. It's individual choice and you can't go wrong with either one of them.
I got the 7 pro almost 2 months ago. I have the option to get the 8, and I went to the store and played around with the 8 and I have decided to stay with the 7. I just didn't see any advantage other than 5G, which is limited in my area anyway. The camera is not any better and I'm happy with what I have.
Sent from my OnePlus 7 Pro using XDA Labs
Go 7Pro like guy said above you get full screen real estate no punch hole. There aint gonna be a big difference in software so if the 8 wasnt amazing to you then the 7Pro might not be either . I had a Pixel 3 XL b4 i got my 7Pro. Let me tell you that OnePlus is amazing still. 7Pro will have better stats than the Pixel 5. Look up BBK Electronics theres a few different brands of phones under thier umbrella One Plus being one of them. But maybe not the best.
Go for the 7pro. Design alone will put this phone in an elite class of Legendary smart phones. Development shouldn't stop anytime soon.

After 40 days you can request an unlock for the SIM.
Then you can also request a BL unlock token.
This assumes the 7 Pro. I don't know about the 8.

You can easily bypass that with root and flashing DP3, then international firmware
Works for TMO phone.... Not sure about other carriers
Yes indeed there are bypasses because 1+is developer friendly but if you are going to pay cash for some reason you're better off paying the same and getting the fully unlocked one. Best to send carriers the message that we don't approve. I think the the sprint one is locked. Anything from Verizon would be also. T mobile is actually the most open of the carriers.
Thank you for all the responses. I ended up exchanging for the 7 pro. It was a 8gb ram 256gb memory variant so I got double 5he storage for less and I couldn't be happier.
So with root on this from what I'm reading sim unlock is required?

Does the T-Mobile OnePlus 8T not have Always-On Display available?

I was lucky enough to get my 8T in the mail today, and one of the first things I wanted to enable was Always-on Display. It doesn't seem like it's available on the T-Mobile variant of the device.
On the reviews I've seen, there is an option called "when to show" in the Ambient Display section to either schedule your AOD or have it on all the time. I have attached two screenshots, one from Android Authority's review and one from my device. The setting is not available.
Let me know if you have any ideas!
Link to Android Authority screenshot: https://cdn57.androidauthority.net/...20/10/OnePlus-8T-ambient-display-settings.jpg

There seems to be a lot of incorrect information out there about the T-Mobile variant. GSM Arena lists the OnePlus 8T+ 5G as being dual-SIM, which it isn't. That's probably just someone's lazy copy and paste mistake, but still. T-Mobile lists n24 as one of the 5G bands, which I think is a mistake as well. No one from T-Mobile has gotten back to me on that though. It seems to lack n5 and potentially n24 should have been n25, but getting the facts seems to be a challenge.
Edit: Also, the T-Mobile firmware for the device more than likely doesn't support the OnePlus Buds either. The OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 8 with T-Mobile firmware do not support the OnePlus Buds natively.

Does the unlocked version have Google dialer and messages by default? The T-Mobile version has the oneplus apps for both.
Yup I can confirm. Just got my Tmo 8T today and there is no option to have AOD on at all times.
AOD will probably come in an OTA. When I got the Tmo 7pro, it didn't have DC dimming out the box. Waited a few months for the update to hit
Nothing here!
I've also received my oneplus 8t today from T-Mobile, well technically yesterday and been trying to activate aod all day, just couldn't find anything... Hope something comes up soon-
One strange thing I've noticed is when charging AOD is on. Only when charging

Funny thing is the the T-Mobile variant software is a higher number 11.1.0.2 vs 11.0.1.2 for the unlocked variant, strange
Do we know if the difference between tmo and global variant will make it not possible to covert it to global f/w like I did on my tmo 7T?

We don't know yet. Hopefully it will be possible and hopefully without having to unlock the bootloader.

I swear saw a post here with him offering it but when I went back it was gone. Either he deleted it or it was on another 8 series forum. Either way I got tmo to unlock mine... Now just waiting on OnePlus to pull their heads out of their asses.

Yeah no always on display on the T-Mobile version...
Does the unlocked version have Google dialer and messages by default? The T-Mobile version has the oneplus apps for both.

I have an unlocked 8T (UK) and I have the Google dialler and messages app as defaults, but strangely I don't have the OP apps.

8T unlocked out of stock – can I get T-mobile version and unlock it? Or another suggestion?

Hi there,
I've read through the various threads but I don't see my basic question answered: if I buy the T-mobile US version 8T (direct from OnePlus) can I make it like the unlocked international version? I have flashed ROMS before, tinkered with modem files, etc. but I don't want to go to far down that rabbit hole. I really just want the unlocked version from OnePlus but they are out of stock. I want to be able to use this phone outside of the US with local carriers, and want 2 sim slots.
I'm in this situation because I just smashed my unlocked international version 7 Pro and have a few months left on Mint Mobile in the US, and would like to continue with them anyway. Alternatively, I could get a refurbished 7 Pro from Amazon for around the same price. Advice?
Many thanks!
don't mean to sidetrack too far, but can the t-mobile US version work with verizon?

I am on same situation but as I understand getting T-mobile version is not good idea there is no good method to switch it global firmware it has a lot of issues. I clicked notify me button in Oneplus website and hope they will get it back stock soon.

Thanks for that tip.
I just noticed an eBay listing that describes the SIM unlock as a very simple process. This seem to contradict what I read in a thread on here about having to be on the T-Mobile network for some length of time, etc.
Here's the listing and they claim you can SIM unlock the T-mobile variant by the simple process quoted below. Is this true?
How to Unlock (Network unlock) this Mobile:
· Connect you phone to WIFI
· Go to Settings
· Go to WIFI & Network
· Go to SIM & Network Setting
· Go to Network Unlock.
· Click and then go to Permanent Unlock.
· It will take some time and will give you confirmation message.
· Sometimes Unlocking Server is Busy or there is some connection problem, then try again.
· It will give you confirmation message once Unlocking is done.
· Restart the devise

But will this work if you are not T-mobile user and will get sealed box from OP store?

Yes, that's what I want to know too! The process says, "connect to wi-fi"... so... maybe??
When I called oneplus support they told me it need to be used with t-mobile line at least 40 days than can unlock. But not sure if they are right. We need someone who is in US and can get it and test at least if it will not work can return back.
You could try contacting fcc since you would buy the phone out right and not owe on it I had to do that for my n10 I was supposed to have phone on service for 6 months I think but got it unlocked within a week from when I contacted fcc
But from another side we pay full price in oneplus store so T-mobile should unlock it right away. Because this is not contract phone with payments.
I purchased a T-Mobile 8T from OnePlus and it arrived about a week ago. I used the phone for a few days while I attempted to get T-Mobile to unlock the device. I went through 3 call center reps and one in-store rep, and all of them said that because I purchased the device from OnePlus and not from T-Mobile directly, that they do not have any record of the IMEI being in their system and that there is nothing they can do to unlock it. They told me to contact OnePlus to get it unlocked, who then told me that T-Mobile is the only one who can unlock the device and that it will take 45 days before T-Mobile will be able to do so.
Returning the device today. It's a shame, because I really do like the device (despite the fact that the camera is significantly worse than my 3T).

Any chance you can try or have tried the process suggested by the eBay vendor? (in post #4 in this thread)?

Yes I tried this many times over the last few days, did not work for me. The result says the device is not eligible for unlock, then below returns a server error.

Sorry to hear that. But I'm glad to hear your experience because I was about to buy directly from OnePlus since I have a $30 off coupon, which brings the price down to $320 at the moment.
The eBay vendor insists that their process works and will accept a return if not... I wonder if there's any reason that a phone from that vendor would work, but a phone from OnePlus directly would not...?

I think it will work only if you do it right out of the box without putting in T-Mobile sim card.

If the eBay vendor has opened and activated the device with a T-Mobile SIM card for >40 days, it may actually work in that case, I'm not sure. It could also depend on whether the eBay vendor bought the device from T-Mobile rather than OnePlus. But this has been my experience with a brand-new device from OnePlus.

Yes, and thanks for sharing your experience. I don't think the eBay vendor has opened the boxes, but they do say that they acquired the phones directly from T-Mobile.

Judging from my conversations with T-Mobile, this matters, because if they were purchased from T-Mobile then they should have the IMEI in their database.

I assume that from the eBay vendor who says their boxes sealed, so logically they never had T-Mobile card inserted. Also I saw some post in oneplus forum that guy used to have unlocked 8T which worked with other carrier when he inserted T-Mobile card phone get locked to T-Mobile.
Also I saw this thread it is about OP 8 but they have same situation.
