It is server side. It's a waiting game for them to push it to you. Some have it already and the rest of us wait.

There's a setting in developer options to override and enable dark mode system wide. That setting enabled dark mode in all apps for me. It's called override force dark. Try it out. Some apps don't play nice with it but most do.

You have to be on the new stable version of Android 10, and have developer settings enabled. Within developer settings near the bottom of the list you should see overide dark mode.

If you use Textra, turning this setting on will screw up your chosen colors...so off it goes.

Oh well. I've had Android 10 (official / stable) on my Pixel 2 XL for a while now, Already have Dark Theme turned on in Settings / Display. Override Force-Dark in Settings / Developer Options turned on. Rebooted (several times). Still no dice with Gmail (and I'm also on the latest APK - 2019.09.01.268168002). I don't even see the Dark theme in Gmail settings - evidence of it at all in Gmail so far.
Sure seems like I'm still waiting for server-side update lottery to pick my number.

Force Dark Mode does not always give me nice results.
For example Facebook replies are in a white box with light gray text "you can not read the facebook replies"
Turned Force Dark mode off.

I love this! Thanks so much. I don't understand why the default wasn't and isn't dark. It's so much nicer on the eyes and save battery life too.

If you are rooted and have the latest gmail installed and you are rooted then try the following.
Go to data/data/com.google.android.gm/shared_prefs/Flagprefs.xml and change the line that says name="DarkThemeSupport_dark_theme_support" value="false" to "true" and save it.
So it should now read name="DarkThemeSupport_dark_theme_support" value="true"
Force kill gmail and you should have the option in your gmail general settings then.

you want to go 2 updates back,or maybe 3, and playstore should go dark, its been the last 2 or 3 updates that its vanished, don't forget toggle force dark mode. What google are playing at is beyond me, supposed to be adding dark theme to all there apps but remove the function from them.

Must be a server side push. I have the same version and no dark.
Try turning phone off then on. Not reboot that is what I had done
Guess what it's gone again looks like I had it for a day
I have dark play store too since yesterday v16.8.19 and Gmail...only missing Google app and Assistant now, also wondering if Google docs and some other minor Google apps will receive dark mode

That's Google for you ??*
I had for a day or two dark mode on playstore but it want back to normal thing. Come and go all by it self
I've been wondering how to enable this. There is an option in the Google beta app, Android authority has said, but it is not there for me. Nor the Gmail dark, or the play store dark. But both display option is set to dark theme, and force dark mode on in developer settings. It is a mystery what Google is up to with this....
Edit: so I just powered off my phone, and restarted it. Still no dark play store, then I went back into apps and uninstalled all updates to the play store, and had to toggle the force override dark mode in Dev options because it switches off between boots, and I now have dark play store. But none of the other apps are dark, SMH.
Mine flipped on last night. It was definitely white in the morning, then I got a notification for an update at like 9, and there it was. It's amazing. Now if they would flip back on the dark assistant and Google app!

I had to enable the "Nuanced Dark" theme in customization AND also also enable "Override force-dark" in the developer options. I am having problems with text not showing in the messenger app this way but so far that is my only issue I have came across.
Hope this helps

Thank you! That helped me find the app darQ which allows per app forcing, but it's not ready for black out yet sadly.. use this and it won't mess with messenger tho?

Did they remove dark mode in the message app?

I switch from Google Messages to OnePlus native messages a lot and noticed that there is no setting for dark mode. I swear it was there last time I used it and it's not using the phone's dark mode theme. I'm on 10.3.3.GM21AA
10.3.3.GM21AA and 10.0.6GM21BA (EU)
Messages
have normally dark mode.

There is no app setting for it. It changes automatically when you switch your device theme to dark mode.
I prefer the Google Messages app- it has spam reporting. Easy to install.

Whatsapp doesn't show the contacts - chinese ROM

Hi. I have an issue with Whatsapp. It has all the permission s available, so does google contacts. Ut for some reason the chats in what's app shows just numbers, not contact says..anybody came across the fix?
It's permissions do make sure you've set EVERYTHING there's stuff like Modify And Create Contacts and other similar ones this depends on
To fix manually in the meantime just go to the main screen, go to send a new message, then the three dots & Refresh
Go to settings - Accounts & Sync - Whatsapp - More - Sync now
That seems to work

That was done. Refreshing it did 5he trick. Thanks guys.
Cool!
If it persists after a reboot check permissions again (this gets very boring on the Chinese rom) but refreshing always brought it back for me.
Enjoy
The easiest way to fix this is go to privacy setting and look at behaviour of the apps, specially the permissions that WhatsApp tried to get and was restricted, or returned blank. Then set that permission to allow always.

Thing is, the fix is not permanent, I need to do it every few minutes. That's ridiculous
Why, I fixed mine once and it has never gone back. Have you checked all permissions, network restrictions, notification and battery settings and then go to compose a message, press on the 3 dots and refresh. You must be missing one of these things. Get yourself on to the EU ROM, you don't get this trouble. Good luck, you will crack it.

Are there any other battery settings apart form these on the app settings page (no restrictions)?
I am also on the Chinese rom and just fixed the permissions, marked autostart and excluded from battery saver. Everything works permanently.

The best way to do all this is not to look individually but search "battery" or "permissions" in settings. The layout isn't always great so I'd recommend searching for words instead of just scrolling through

Whatsapp working at chinese rom
The way that work for me was :
- give all permissions at manage the app whatsapp
- in "apps, manage apps, whatsapp, turn on autostart, battery saver no restrictions, restrict data usage checked wlan, mobile data

Many thanks for this. I picked up a transparent Mi 10 Ultra a week or so ago and had this issue after flashing the Xiaomi.eu stable ROM. I could refresh the contacts within the app, but it would only stick for ten minutes or so. So far these settings have stuck.....

Problems with dark mode.

Hey!
I am using Hex but I am not able to have all of my applications on dark mode. Some of the applications not having dark mode are TikTok and Snapchat.
I remember couple of years ago I didn't have this problem. I used to theme all the applications well without any exception. The problem is, I don't know what application I used (could be Substratum but it didn't work when I tried).
What I am asking is whether there is some way to turn applications which don't have dark mode to dark mode? I have tried with Substratum, Hex installer and various themes. They don't turn all applications to dark mode.
Forcing dark mode doesn't have either.
I don't know whether the problem is device, system or application related.
I am using S20FE Snap One UI 4.1
Thank you for reading!

You mean the force dark mode setting in Developper options?
That's the best you can do. If that doesn't apply dark mode in your applications i'm afraid there's not much else you do except wait for official dark mode in those apps.

Forcing dark mode is turned on in Developer Options. It doesn't help.
If that didn't do the trick I guess the only solution is to wait. Snapchat added Dark Mode on iOS, i'm sure it's just a matter of time before they make it to Android as well.

I hope so. It's still very hard for me to belive that there's no application able to theme. It's a simple white to black inversion.
I'm not judging. I don't know how I would do that but I find it strange.
Dark mode has become increasingly popular in the last few years and it blows my mind that popular apps such as Snapchat or TikTok like you've mentionned still don't have it in their settings.

I agree. We will see.
I think I used Substratum back in past to theme applications which weren't compatible but not even that is available now.
You could try some modded apps with black themed skins. I remember this was the way back in 2015., before dark mode and substratum.
