i downloaded 2 digital copies to movies i bought recently and of course their in .wmv format. god forbid android will play them. i have tried every video player i can find and tried 3 different converting software apps including handbreak with no luck. is there any way to watch .wmv files on the droid charge?
Try Act1, I'm pretty sure that works.

If that doesn't work, just convert it to mp4
~John
google format factory (a free and very handy program that'll convert pictures, videos, sounds to whatever you want), download and install it, convert the movie (preferably to mp4) and put on your phone then it'll play fine
blazing through on my 4G Droid Charge
Did you try MX Video Player?
I tried a bunch of different players for my collection of various formats/codecs and it plays the highest percentage of my videos.

Moving to Q&A
i have tried all the players on the market with no luck and a few converters. im going to try the format factory converter and see what happens
once i re encode my media center recordings of tv shows am i able to dump them in my sky drive and view them on my windows phone?
i am seriously running out of space on my 16 gig titan
I don't believe the phone inherently supports opening media files (other than photos) from SkyDrive, though I might be wrong. In any case, a third-party app could do this, though I don't know of one that will. Sorry.
Try Qloud Media app, you don't have to transcode medias by yourself or use SkyDrive, your home PC will be enough for that task.
Man, I wish we could get something like an Orb app. Then you should be able to play the WM recordings.

I just tried running a recorded tv show through mycast.orb and it wouldn't work with any of the formats available. I guess we are sol with orb for now.
Plex just came out. So you can use that.
Just noticed an update for the mobile.HD media player in the store. It now supports DTS audio. Works great, without any lag now!

ooh! thanks for the headsup. Oddly enough, I'm running the trial and did not get an update notice. Wen to my apps, selected mobile.HD, and tapped install and updated. Works great now!
Also supports subtitles according to the release notes.
I haven't been able to test any files yet though since I'm not at home.

I didn't get a notification either, I just happened to look! I immediately purchased it after. Well worth the 3.49 now! Ran a 1080p version of inception and didnt have a single slowdown or anything.
I'm pretty sure, actually, that they increased the price a dollar with this update. I'm 99% sure that it was $2.49 when I purchased it.
It makes sense though, if they feel the app is now closer to completion.
Cool - Hopefully they will add Dolby audio as well. So MKVs are playing good through it with DTS audio. Maybe I will havbe to buy it.

Uh, Dolby Digital was already supported.
Unless you're referring to TrueHD or something, I guess.
It stutters on some of the super-high bitrate stuff I have, but most 720p and 1080p stuff now plays perfectly. (Edit: Stuttering was because of playing a file stored on the network, see below post).
I noticed that there's no option to turn subtitles OFF for episodes that have them embedded, though.
Also, now that I think about it, I wonder if it's possible to bitstream the audio via HDMI out.
Edit: There's also an x when you tap on the screen that lets you turn subtitles off. It's not obvious though; it would make more sense for "off" to be a section in the track selection.

Hmm - I must be getting this confused with another player in the store that only plays 2 channel audio, when I was on the search for an MKV player a few weeks back. All of my MKVs have both DD 5.1 and DTS tracks (when I encode them). Maybe it failed because of the DTS track being in there when I tried it out.
I will have to give this one another whirl.
I just connected to my receiver via HDMI. So basically what happens is that this player decodes the DD/DTS track to PCM, and then the 5.1 PCM is output to the receiver / TV. So, the Dolby Digital or DTS light won't come on on the receiver, but it's still 5.1 surround. It's just the decoding is done in the player, and not in the receiver. There shouldn't be much of a quality difference either way though, though it would be nice if it did support bitstreaming.
Also, I take back what I said above about it being stuttery. That was only the case when trying to play a 1080p file over Wifi. I copied that same file to a USB hard drive, and it played back perfectly. This is with a file that's at a ridiculous 12mbps bitrate.
So yeah, nearly perfect for me. All it needs is an option to turn off the subtitles, and it's perfect. Bitstream support would be nice too, but I don't actually see that as a necessity. And then it also needs "Play To" support.
Edit: Never mind, I found the button to turn off subtitles, it's a little x on the screen when you tap on it. It'd make more sense for OFF to be in the track selection menu.
Takes a while to load (1-2 minutes), but once it does it seems to be playing DTS movies just fine. Purchased it last night, I believe it was $1.80 or something. I haven't tried it on a receiver yet, though.
Hello all !

Switch your surface's language settings temporarily to English-US, then go to the MS app store, download the apps you want. you can switch back to English-Australia and the downloaded apps will still be there.
It's a really great app, but it's not showing my subtitles... Their codification is ANSI, not UTF-8, but even when I convert them to UTF-8, the subtitles are not working. Anyone know some solution?

Turn your surface upside down
No no no. We are the right way up :silly:
Does the "try" version have all the features of the full version?
Because it doesn't show any of the subtitles, embedded or not.

yes, I have paid version and mine doesn't show subtitles either. at least audio works now. This app is amazing. Will be flawless once they add embedded subtitle support for mkv's.

It already has embedded subtitle support. Try tapping on the screen, and there's a button with either a bunch of rectangles or an x on the top right (under the volume) to turn subtitles on or off. You can also switch streams by swiping up from the bottom of the screen.
Otherwise, if that's not working, what format are your subtitles in?
Hi
I have encountered this issue twice now on different VOB files.
The most recent being on the Hobbit.
The MX player stops playing/hangs at a certain point in the movie
Specifically, I burned the DVD. Kept it in VOB format. Copied it to sd card. It hangs after a couple of minutes of playing the fourth VOB file. The point at which they arrive at Rivendell.
It would be great if this could be fixed or if anyone knows of a fix.
I've got a feeling it might be something to do with the size of the DVD. I can't remember what other movie it happened on
I tried it on another player and it worked fine...but I prefer MX pro
I Think It's Compatibility or System Issue

I Think It's Maybe Compatibility or System Issue
Can you post the mediainfo of the video? What device and ROM?
Also, please run MX Log Collector immediately after the crash, and post the error logs here.

I will post the details over the next week
Putting music from my pc to my moto and found that some of the albums that were put on the phone do not come up in Google music. I downloaded another player and same results. I then downloaded a file explorer and see them but for some reason it says cannot play.
I own the music (I always rip my CD's when purchased and store them) so do not see any copyright issue. They play fine on my Galaxy S5.
Any ideas?
