Putting music from my pc to my moto and found that some of the albums that were put on the phone do not come up in Google music. I downloaded another player and same results. I then downloaded a file explorer and see them but for some reason it says cannot play.
I own the music (I always rip my CD's when purchased and store them) so do not see any copyright issue. They play fine on my Galaxy S5.
Any ideas?

Try Act1, I'm pretty sure that works.

If that doesn't work, just convert it to mp4
~John
google format factory (a free and very handy program that'll convert pictures, videos, sounds to whatever you want), download and install it, convert the movie (preferably to mp4) and put on your phone then it'll play fine
blazing through on my 4G Droid Charge
Did you try MX Video Player?
I tried a bunch of different players for my collection of various formats/codecs and it plays the highest percentage of my videos.

I have tried several players with no luck streaming a .avi file from dropbox. Has anyone had any success in doing this?
u cant stream only download
Can you stream media from any of the cloud sources
Hey, so I ran across this post today because I was trying to do the same thing. It took me a while, but I think I may have figured it out.
Go to the play store and download these two:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anttek.explorer&hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anttek.remote.cloud&hl=en
.
Sign in on the Drop Box client in the Anttek (on the top left of the application: click on device, select cloud , and then Dropbox)
From there pick the file and play!
I tested it with Mx Player, Mobo Player, and VLC Beta player. Worked on all of them perfectly, Mx Player took a while but VLC player Beta Player worked like "butter" on some Jelly beans haha ;-)
My phone: HTC Sensation
My Rom: Virtuous Eclipse
Android 4.03
HTC Sense 4.0
I hope this works!! Good Luck my fellow Android user!
no jacking off tonight
That is a genius workaround. I'll definitely be using that since I have unlimited LTE. Thanks.
I downloaded the two apps that you suggested and I also downloaded the vlc direct pro free app, but when I try to open a video file using the file explorer it says the file size is too large to open directly. Can you upload a full length movie to dropbox and then try your method to see if it still works?
Is dropbox the only cloud storage with this issue or can you stream avi's from google drive?
You should be able to start downloading any video file from most hosting services and immediately be able to play it in your video player of choice (I use DicePlayer). Then when you are finished watching the video, you can delete the file after.
At least this is what works best for me...

UMGixxer, I figured it out.... Go to dropbox app, rename the video to .flv. For example. ToyStory3.MPV may not play, but ToyStory3.FLV will play... Tell me if this works!!

Well I downloaded another media player "mx player" and it worked fine, I think I didnt have the actual vlc player that i was trying to use. But I wonder if your method will work with the stock media player.

Good question, I havent tried it. But then again, I never use the stock media player...
You can do this in ES File Explorer as well, just by linking it to your Dropbox account. You do need a media player that will play the formats you've got on Dropbox--MX Player works well for me.
Is there a CD ripping program that will include the album art for songs? With iTunes and an iPhone, it just works, but when you put those same songs on my Nexus 5, I get no album art. I don't want to download a program from the Play Store, I just want it to work. I tried Album Art Grabber, and it doesn't work. Any suggestions?
You can use playerpro and search the internet for album art. However this won't rip CDs, just play mp3s when moved to the phone

You can tell Google to download album artwork. It might not be working because you only have it on to download over WiFi. If you are on WiFi trying clearing cache and reobtaining it.

To clear cache its in settings of the app. So settings >apps>play music> clear

I have always used Media Monkey on my PC to embed the artwork into the files. After doing that, it shows up on whatever device I play them on. I dont know how Apple does it with iTunes but I know they are stingy and only like their stuff working with their products.

Why won't phone display the recently added songs correctly? It's been happening since I purchased this phone.
BTW, I'm on latest firmware.
Can anybody help me?
Hey.......
Help.....................
Is your songs list getting updated? Can you see the songs you have added onto your phone in your media player? If you cant, check through the explorer to see if the songs are present there!

Yes, the songs are there. The music app can scan and play them. It's just that... They're not in the right sequence on the recently added Playlist.
If I add a new song to my phone it should be on top of the 'Recently Added' Playlist, right?
But that's not the case with my phone, the song will be added to the music library but the recently added Playlist won't display it on top.
I hope you understand.

A feature I have always wanted in MX player is the feature to start playing in the background when an audio file is loaded. Most of the time when I use MX player, I use it just to play files loaded from a file browser (FX in this case). I don't use the media library function because I have so much media on my tablet that I have yet to find a program that an manage it well. It would be great if I could tap on an mp3 file and have it simply start playing in the background without any user interference. It would make sense, though to have it come into the foreground when videos are played loaded. Ideas?

There's a background audio player option?
Settings > Audio > Audio player
Yes, I already have that enabled and I use it all the time. Right now if I tap on an mp3 file in my file browser (and have it to open with MX player by default) MX player loads onto my screen and starts playing mp3 file. I can then switch back to my file browser and have MX continue to play in the background. What I would like is for MX player not to even load onto my screen. If I tap on an mp3 file in my browser, it needs to automatically start playing in the background without ever appearing on my screen. You probably would not want to make this feature the rule, but I'm sure that many people would find the option to be quite handy. You do already have an awesome app, though. Good job!

Well, not even dedicated music player apps like Poweramp do that.
Also, I'm not sure if it's against Android specification for an app called to open a file to run the file silently... perhaps the developer can offer more insight.
The previous versions played fine. Iv reverted back to previous version it's playing fine while am on call. Multitasking .... Other person can't hear the sound from the video
---------- Post added at 08:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:55 PM ----------
Too play music where other person on call can hear it too would be great but i don't think there are any apps like that. I've had such option with previous devices.
