TWRP Pie issues or am I an idiot? - HTC U12+ Questions & Answers

Are there known issues w/ TWRP for Pie on our device where it can't decrypt the external SD card? (Yes, I searched, but the only thing I could find were people suggesting that people search for answers, so that didn't help much).
I unlocked the bootloader, adb'ed TWRP 3.2.3-5 temporarily, but no matter what I do TWRP can't mount my SD card. I've set an unlock p/w and a decrypt p/w and neither allow me to view the contents of the SD card. I also formatted the SD card but TWRP was only able to see it after i changed it to EXT2 then to EXT4, but then it reverts to not seeing it after rebooting the device and dropping Magisk onto the card itself.
So now I'm stuck w/ unlocked stock Pie which isn't rooted because I can't flash Magisk. I was unable to find a way to adb Magisk onto the device to avoid TWRP, but alas, I don't think that's possible.
So, am I an idiot (100% likely) or are there known issues where we can't actually root via TWRP (either temp install or perm install) and I've just got to be patient until it happens? (Or maybe downgrade to Oreo, root, flash an Oreo ROM e.g. LeeDroid then update it through Magisk).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dunno about this as i relocked mine but mine was working fine from SDCARD, btw latest version of twrp is 3.3.1-0, apart from this why not putting magisk zip and magisk manager into phone storage and flash from there instead of using SDCARD?

I actually ended up sideloading Magisk via TEMP TWRP to root.
I am curious about the random microsd working. Could you list the brand and size you tried? Which was the one that worked?

I'm guessing the Kingston being 32gb was the only fat32 formatted. Probably the fat32 that makes it readable...

I have a Mac at work that allowed me to format a 200GB microsd in FAT32. And... Our suspicion was right, the FAT32 was readable.
Now just have to remember this or use the "Sideload" feature in TWRP in the future... Thanks for indulging me...

It's nothing to do with the format of the Sdcard, it won't mount anything larger than 32gb when flashing from the Sdcard (Sdcard ruu flashing) it also won't allow you to flash magisk in temp twrp, Ive tried formatting all cards i have ,then tried again. In one of the main instructions of rooting it says no bigger than 32gb can be used. I can flash HTC 10,U11 & U11+ using a 128gb card but not the U12+ ,it won't recognise it in the bootloader /download mode when trying flash but works with any 32gb card I've tried (fat or exfat) I'm using a cheapy, this caused me no end of grief when I tried to root, twrp 3.3.1 was the only version I could boot twrp (2.47.709.1 htc 621)

To install a .zip, you need a 32 MAX! but on my 128 in fat32 no problems to make a backup TWRP.Before passing it in fat32 TWRP did not have access!
PS: For a RUU I do not know? there is no HTC Pie RUU for the moment!

[SOLVED] Clockwork can't mount SD Card

Hello fellow Transformers,
I've flashed Clockwork recovery and I have root access but when I try to flash a custom ROM I get "E: Can't mount /sdcard".
Tried reflashing the recovery img, tried manually mounting the /sdcard ... same error.
I used this thread to gain root access + flash recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125714 .
I don't have a microSD card so the /sdcard I'm talking about is the internal 16GB one.
Hope it's even mountable... or do I have to use a microSD card?
Would appreciate any help!
Thanks!
Edit: tried a microSD card - won't mount as well
That root method seems to be pretty unreliable, judging by all the comments in that thread. Try flashing this version of CWM and try your custom rom again:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093818
If that still doesn't work, I'd say you should unroot and then try one of the more reliable rooting methods.

I saw that thread but how can I flash this Clockwork img if I can't mound SD card? can I use fastboot boot recovery ?
Hah! Good point. You got me there...
Do you have another microSD card laying around? As far as I know CWM requires you have the files on a microSD, not the internal SD.
This is the method that I used and had no issues with:
http://asustransform.com/forum/index.php?/topic/19-how-to-root-your-asus-transformer/
You could try re-rooting your device. This method requires you to downgrade your firmware, though.
Thanks , i'll try the rooting method you did.
Try another microsd card first. I've seen people in other threads with this problem, and a different card did the trick.
Did you find a fix for this? I did a factory reset twice and re-rooted twice via the guide above. Also tried a differnt root method. Tried 3 different SD cards and reformatting them to fat32 (also tried fat and ntfs just in case ) none of them will mount in CWM recovery??
My tf will recognize the SD card when booted but not in clockwork. Im using the "standard " CWM as I can't flash the modded version. Anyone please!! I'm stuck on 3.0.1

Used the nvflash method, which flashes the modded CW, and bought a simple 4gb microSD card and it worked great.
Make sure your sd card is formatted to FAT32.

Well, I was able to nvflash the modded cmw and prime 1.4 which was my primary goal but even this cwm won't mount the removeable or internal sd for me (still not sure which one mounts) reformatted 2 different cards to fat32 on my pc even tried formatting on the tf still nothing. Any other ideas ?

In that case, assuming you did everything, I suggest RMA... It should work so if it doesn't, maybe there's a fault with the sd card slot...
The best test is to take a microSD card that works for someone else on the Transformer and test it on yours, but it's hard finding someone with the same tablet next to you I guess...
That's what I don't get. It mounts fine when the tf is on, mount no problem on my other devices, they just wont mount for cwm on the tf. I'm gonna mess around a bit more to see if anything else works. I have some light screen bleed so it would give me a reason to return if I end up needing to go that route. Thanks again for the suggestions !
Edit: not sure why but CWM recognized the sdcard when I partitioned it, then I was able to mount it and do a backup. Still a little confused that it would recognize/mount the SD to partition but not to install or backup. But it works now

I have screen bleeds as well but very small one and I didn't even notice them until I saw that "Screen bleeds" thread so I'm not going to return it for now... if it'll get worse I will.
It Works!
Thanks to jcarrz1 reply to my post in Clockworkmod recovery 3.2.0.1 roach-tf101-r1 I found the solution to my SD Card not mounting. It was indeed solved by first Partitioning my external SD card. After that CWM mounts the SD card just fine and uses any files I have stored there.
i have the same problem
can u explain what are you exaclty doing to fix it ?
edit : FIXED !

[Q] How do I Flash ClockworkMod Recovery after I Razorclaw Root?

This one click method called Razorclaw came out today and I rooted it no problem. The problem is that the stock recovery is still installed and I have no clue how to install Roach2010's (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1213723) port of CWM Recovery onto my TF. If anyone can post a detailed step by step on how to do that, I will greatly appreciate it. Please and thank you in advance!
In that Razorclw thread look for Gnufabio's Recoveryinstaller app.
It will install cwm recovery
RazorClaw and Gnufabio's Recoveryinstaller app worked perfectly on my new Transformer B80.
Thanks alot but that doesnt seem to be working. just looks like something is flashing then just reboots and i try rebooting into recocery and it just reboots.

so no space for it to create a backup file...
Therefore backup need choose the function of Backup to external sdcard.

Please check if your sd card is formated as exFAT.
Official Clockworkmod doesn't support exFAT formated sdcard's.
what does silence mean here? does it mean it is so stable and all working good? does it flash themes and wiping properly?

As I said in the other thread, you're using exFAT which isn't supported.
Also, there is an official CWM 6.0.2.8 now, look here. (his tar has the wrong version number in its filename, it actually is 6.0.2.8)

my phone GT I9100. I formatted by my phone under ics on my 64gb cl10 card was fat32 about year ago. Recently I upgraded to jb due to boot loop peoblem, I wipe my phone including formatting msd card. SD Card 0MB a I can't mount the SD Card

Hello there,
I tried CyanogenMod 13 by ivan I on my Sensation to flash.
Sadly it did not work.
I have first-TWRP 2.8.7.0 Pyramid R9-cm13.img flashed.
and then the ROM.
I have checked the full wipe a hook too much, for now
shows me the SD Card 0MB.
I have tried to mount newly also TWRP. But it can not hook up.
When I start the Sensation in TWRP, I read:
Unmodified system partion
Keep System Read only?
TWRP can leave your system partition to make it easier unmodified for you to make offical updates.
TWRP will be unable to prevent the stock ROM from Replacing TWRP and will not offer to root your device.
Installing zips or preforming ADB operations may shut modigy the system partion.
what can I do
Can someone help me.
My PC recognizes the sensation via adb.
and I have already sideload via adb try a new Rome zuflashen.
But cell phone then remains hanging in the start screen.
Sorry my English is not so good ..

TF700 failing to sysMap a SD card

I'm a newbie and I am trying to upgrade my tablet. I have successfully: unlocked the tablet; I can connect using adb to run fastboot. I have installed TWRP v2.8.6.0 (latest blob I could find) using fastboot. I have used TWRP to perform a factory reset.
When I try to install KatKIss-7.1_TF700T_029.zip I receive the following error:

What Bootloader version are you using? - NP
Google "TWRP for TF700" to find the TeamWin download site
A factory reset wipes your data partition, including your Downloads folder, so flash from the microSD
A wipe is not enough when switching roms, you have to format data and then you should convert /data to f2fs
https://forum.xda-developers.com/tr.../guide-convert-data-to-f2fs-twrp-2-8-t3073471
Tim just released version 30, so trash your downloads and start again

You don't really 'Install' it on the MicroSD. You save the OS zip file to the MicroSD card and install it from there using the recover console. - NP

I understand that part. I have installed katkiss on my internal storage. I want to install it onto the Micro SD card directly as the internal storage is so slow. I swear there was a way to do it.
Oh I don't know if that's possible, you would have to 1st get the tf700 to be able to boot from the SC card. - NP
