Hello
I have a doubt. I am going to buy an xz2c and I want to root. I don't want the black camera. Then my doubts:
1.- To unlock bootloader, do I do it from oreo or from P?
2.- If I buy it already updated to P, then I will have to upgrade to oreo for root with xperifix?
3.- Is it better to buy mobile in Oreo or does it matter? after P upgrade to Oreo and root without problems?
I want to have root and I don't mind staying in oreo or in P, and I want to know what the recommendation is for not having a black camera and the least risks.
Unlock from oreo or P?
Root from oreo or P?
Better to buy oreo or does it matter P and then upgrade to oreo for unlocking?
Thanks and sorry for my English
Please
Hi, I wonder the same. Some post I have read indicate the described problem, but it is unclear if this still applies.
I would love to root, but a broken camera would be a no-go for me.
Can anyone shed some light, please?
Regards UV
P.S: doubt -> question
Simple and easy:
Unlock on oreo -> Preview is black, you need xperifix to get it back working.
Unlock on pie (if i remember right, not the first 2 or 3 pie versions) -> Preview is fine, you don't need to fix it.
Getting root is the same on oreo or pie: flash magisk 18.1 from twrp recovery and install Magisk Manager in Android Os.
If you buy it with oreo or pie does not matter. You can flash up and down (also with locked bootloader) with newflasher as long as you have the firmware files.

So, unlocking on pie, with first or last firmware?

I would say, better last than first. But, as i said, it also depends on which firmware is available.

Hi.
I'm right now on TS CM 13.1 and I want to try the RR. But I didn't unlock the bootloader officially, so I need to do it properly now so I won't end with an locked bootloader.
While I'm waiting for the approval... can I just flash the latest China dev ROM with my current recovery? Or should I flash it from fastboot?
Thank you.
Since you have a custom recovery, try Xiaomi.eu or miGlobe, though be careful as I think latest versions (Android 7) will lock the bootloader. To be safe, I'd flash an older version with Android 5.1 for now.
You can't try RR 5.8.1 based on Android 7.1 as it requires lollipop bootloader.
Or you can flash 6.12.22 and then update to any Nougat Miui Rom available on Xiaomi.eu. This is done via Updater app.

I didn't realise there was a previous RR version with lollipop bootloader.
I already got the SMS with the approval from Xiaomi. I though it would take long. So, if get that right, I should first flash an older Android 5.1.1 Dev ROM and than update it with the Updater app to the latest version with 7.1 . This will lock the bootloader and than I can unlock it officially.
If I do it from from fastboot I can flash directly the latest 7.1 dev ROM, right?
Thank you guys. I always messed around with ROM's with my old GNex, but this Miui stuff confuses me a bit.
No need. Just go in TWRP and see the RR N thread there is a link to nougat blobs. Install that and then install newer TWRP that works with nougat (see android development). I think at this point you'd have to unlock bootloader. Then install room normally
But, as I read in the RR N thread, after I flash those blobs I'll end up with a locked bootloader if I previously unlocked it unofficially. As I did.
And, at least I think, I can only unlock it again from an official ROM. That's why I want to flash Miui.

Whether you have unlocked your device officially or not, it will still lock your bootloader. The key here is if you have the permission to unlock it. If not, then don't proceed. You can officially unlock your bootloader after 5 business days upon receiving the SMS.
Ok. I do have the permission. And can I unlock the bootloader right away with mi flash unlock on a custom ROM or do I need the official miui ROM?
Worked for me with no OS, so I assume you do not need miui.

After you flash the blobs, the bootloader will be locked. Unlock it via Mi Flash. Then flash a Nougat compatible TWRP and you're good to go in flashing Nougat RR.
I unlocked the bootloader and rooted my honor 6x with magisk. Now I'm confused, what could cause relocking the bootloader, or non-functional twrp, or no root…
I'm most interested, if there are any dead ends – no way back to unlocked bootloader etc. (security patch level by google?).
My former phones did not receive any updates – so that "problem" is new to me
OTA Updates – I see, that one needs to un-root and go back to stock recovery for OTA-Updates. Do I have to avoid them? (Does bootloader get relocked, can I simply reflash twrp and magisk after?)
Custom roms – I get, that one can reflash (older?) stock rom – does bootloader stay unlocked?
Oreo Chinese/Indian – rootable? Stays unlocked? (Bonusquestion: downsides re-branding from European L21 to Indian/Chinese? Possible to go back to L21?)
anything else to think about, to preserve unlock/root-goodies etc.?
All your questions have the same answer. Bootloader cannot be relocked simply. Only you can do that or if you use HWOTA 8 to rebrand/ rebrand in general. In order to receive OTA updates, you just need to unroot via Magisk manager, reflash stock recovery and you are good to go. However there is a much simpler method available If you want. For that download the latest Full-OTA for your model from Firmware Finder app and then flash it through Hurupdater. More detailed instructions in the relative thread. Just search for Hurupdater. And lastly if you want to flash a custom ROM go for OpenKirin. They are the easiest to flash and have stock camera. Or you could Upgrade to Android 9 by flashing Pixys for Hi6250 devices by Askucio Droid. Detailed instructions in relative threads.
Thanks!

…so I concluded that I should not worry too much about losing "root-goodies". Thanks for the infos! =)
As for OpenKirin – they kinda confuse me regarding versions – there's omnirom beta 3 & 3.1, resurrection 3 & beta 2, and lineage 5 – but they're all based on Android 7? Or Oreo?
Oreo. Always use latest version. And all of them are stable so don't worry. Also all of them are different ROMs each with its own advantage.
Resurrection Remix: Best in terms of customization and features. Good battery life. Recommended.
LineageOS: No Customization. Best Battery Life of all.
Omni ROM: Sweet Spot between LOS & RROS. Customization and battery life though Customization are not as good as RROS and same goes for battery life.
After Downgrading from Pie to Oreo. And officially unlocking bootloader via nokia website, And installing twrp and magisk, MY PHONE IS ROOTED.
But,
Can i flash latest Pie firmware now without losing root ? If yes how? And will bootloader get locked again by doing this?

You will lose root as far as I know, but you can easily reisntall it via twrp. The bootloader will not be relocked unless you manually do so yourself.
Hi, I recently updated my A8 to running android pie and I was wondering if there was a relevant TWRP file to root on the 9.0 version. I am able to unlock the OEM unlocking option also. Cheers!

Yes! The TWRP for oreo works on Pie, I'm rooted, and i pressume that youhave to wait 168h even you have oem unlock.
You do not have to wait if u have pie. I did not have to. I updated my stock to pie the installed twrp and then a custom rom. I had to use the latest Magisk, 19.1. No problems. I have an sm-a520w.
Hello community, I have decided to root and install a custom rom to my xzp,
I have followed j4nn guide downgrade my xzp G8141 from 9.0 to 8.0 for temp root and TA backup before unlocking the bootloader, I have saved all 3 copies well, things have gone wrong after unlocking the bootloader, installing the latest fw with newflasher, in the menu service has changed, now I have these errors. I have the eXistenZ pie on my xzp, the video enhancement not working.
Here are 3 screenshots in comparison
1 first of all, with stock 9.0 fw,
2. the one after downgrade to 8.0 without modifying anything,
3. 8.0 fw after unlocking the bootloader
4. after installing custom rom and with TA-locked.img restored. a hide unlock kernel flashed, continue with ERROR
Thanks to all in advance
