Is there a TWRP file available to root the A8(2018) running pie? - Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) Questions & Answers

Hi, I recently updated my A8 to running android pie and I was wondering if there was a relevant TWRP file to root on the 9.0 version. I am able to unlock the OEM unlocking option also. Cheers!

Yes! The TWRP for oreo works on Pie, I'm rooted, and i pressume that youhave to wait 168h even you have oem unlock.

You do not have to wait if u have pie. I did not have to. I updated my stock to pie the installed twrp and then a custom rom. I had to use the latest Magisk, 19.1. No problems. I have an sm-a520w.

Back to Miui official ROM

Hi.
I'm right now on TS CM 13.1 and I want to try the RR. But I didn't unlock the bootloader officially, so I need to do it properly now so I won't end with an locked bootloader.
While I'm waiting for the approval... can I just flash the latest China dev ROM with my current recovery? Or should I flash it from fastboot?
Thank you.
Since you have a custom recovery, try Xiaomi.eu or miGlobe, though be careful as I think latest versions (Android 7) will lock the bootloader. To be safe, I'd flash an older version with Android 5.1 for now.
You can't try RR 5.8.1 based on Android 7.1 as it requires lollipop bootloader.
Or you can flash 6.12.22 and then update to any Nougat Miui Rom available on Xiaomi.eu. This is done via Updater app.
Sent from my Mi-4c using Tapatalk
I didn't realise there was a previous RR version with lollipop bootloader.
I already got the SMS with the approval from Xiaomi. I though it would take long. So, if get that right, I should first flash an older Android 5.1.1 Dev ROM and than update it with the Updater app to the latest version with 7.1 . This will lock the bootloader and than I can unlock it officially.
If I do it from from fastboot I can flash directly the latest 7.1 dev ROM, right?
Thank you guys. I always messed around with ROM's with my old GNex, but this Miui stuff confuses me a bit.
No need. Just go in TWRP and see the RR N thread there is a link to nougat blobs. Install that and then install newer TWRP that works with nougat (see android development). I think at this point you'd have to unlock bootloader. Then install room normally
But, as I read in the RR N thread, after I flash those blobs I'll end up with a locked bootloader if I previously unlocked it unofficially. As I did.
And, at least I think, I can only unlock it again from an official ROM. That's why I want to flash Miui.

Whether you have unlocked your device officially or not, it will still lock your bootloader. The key here is if you have the permission to unlock it. If not, then don't proceed. You can officially unlock your bootloader after 5 business days upon receiving the SMS.
Ok. I do have the permission. And can I unlock the bootloader right away with mi flash unlock on a custom ROM or do I need the official miui ROM?
Worked for me with no OS, so I assume you do not need miui.

After you flash the blobs, the bootloader will be locked. Unlock it via Mi Flash. Then flash a Nougat compatible TWRP and you're good to go in flashing Nougat RR.

Root disappeared after custom ROM installation

Hi, I have root my device recently and installed custom ROM Pure Nexus 7.1.2 unofficial. After OS has been booted, I see Super SU missing form the new ROM. I have tried rooting again but that doesn't work as it is intended for 6.0.1 marshmallow but not for Nougat. Anybody have any insight how to get root in Nougat?
Thanks,
Gokul

There are two Root methods..
Magisk & SuperSU
You choose which one you liked.. I'm personally not using Root
For Magisk You can get information & download links here -

For SuperSU - https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/2014-09-02-supersu-v2-05-t2868133

You will lose root as far as I know, but you can easily reisntall it via twrp. The bootloader will not be relocked unless you manually do so yourself.

Doubt firmware for unlock and root without camera problem

Hello
I have a doubt. I am going to buy an xz2c and I want to root. I don't want the black camera. Then my doubts:
1.- To unlock bootloader, do I do it from oreo or from P?
2.- If I buy it already updated to P, then I will have to upgrade to oreo for root with xperifix?
3.- Is it better to buy mobile in Oreo or does it matter? after P upgrade to Oreo and root without problems?
I want to have root and I don't mind staying in oreo or in P, and I want to know what the recommendation is for not having a black camera and the least risks.
Unlock from oreo or P?
Root from oreo or P?
Better to buy oreo or does it matter P and then upgrade to oreo for unlocking?
Thanks and sorry for my English
Please
Hi, I wonder the same. Some post I have read indicate the described problem, but it is unclear if this still applies.
I would love to root, but a broken camera would be a no-go for me.
Can anyone shed some light, please?
Regards UV
P.S: doubt -> question
Simple and easy:
Unlock on oreo -> Preview is black, you need xperifix to get it back working.
Unlock on pie (if i remember right, not the first 2 or 3 pie versions) -> Preview is fine, you don't need to fix it.
Getting root is the same on oreo or pie: flash magisk 18.1 from twrp recovery and install Magisk Manager in Android Os.
If you buy it with oreo or pie does not matter. You can flash up and down (also with locked bootloader) with newflasher as long as you have the firmware files.

So, unlocking on pie, with first or last firmware?

I would say, better last than first. But, as i said, it also depends on which firmware is available.

[FASTBOOT] [daisy] Patched boot.img for V11.0.5.0 (Android 10)

I followed my usual guide to upgrade...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/how-to/10-0-4-0-to-10-0-7-0-ota-keeping-magisk-t3916863/
The May update is 11.0.5.0. I have a patched boot with Magisk 20.4
https://yasmar.net/xda/patched_boot_11.0.5.0_204.img.gz
And the vanilla boot
https://yasmar.net/xda/vanilla_boot_11.0.5.0.img.gz
Did you update from 9.0? or from previous 10.0 ROM?

I went from Pie 10.0.20.0 to Q 11.0.4.0 to 11.0.5.0.
I wasn't offered 11.0.2.0.

Thanks,
And from 10.0.2.0 to 11.0.4.0 - did you also update the same way, or did you clean flash from fastboot?

I've been using the same process for every OTA since 10.0.4.0.
Only a few updates caused issues.
10.0.9.0 needed a newer TWRP.
Magisk 20 broke TWRP.
When I did the android 10 upgrade I had an issue with some Magisk modules that I had not upgraded. It would have been fine if I'd upgraded them first. I disabled them to boot and then installed the upgraded modules.
Does anyone have the boot img from version 11.0.10.0?

There is no such version for Mi A2 Lite.
11.0.5.0 is the newest release (Android 10 with May security patches).
Hi @a1291762,
I'd like to know if
. it is possible to downgrade from 11.0.5 to latest Android 9
. it is possible to use a full working Gcam on 11.0.5 and how to install it.
Thank you!
I'm currently on v. 10.0.18 (I stopped the latest update for Pie) and I have a CSOT screen.

It was only the first Android 10 (11.0.2.0) that had issues with screens. The 2 followups (11.0.4.0 and 11.0.5.0) work on all phones.
In theory, it is possible to downgrade back to 10.0.18.0 using a fastboot image.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/how-to/fastboot-xiaomi-mi-a2-fastboot-images-t3824871
To get to 10.0.20.0 you'll need to get the OTA zip and install that. I'm not sure how to do that, but this process seems like it should work: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/how-to/how-to-manual-update-v11-0-4-0-users-t4082815
It might be worth checking if people have done the downgrade successfully. For example, the Pie-Oreo downgrade caused modem issues.
There's heaps of threads where people discuss gcams, but I do not know what the state is because I use the stock camera app.

Apparently there was a 10.0.20.0 fastboot, but it's not on the fastboot thread
I don't know where I got this URL from but 10.0.20.0 is http://bigota.d.miui.com/V10.0.20.0...0.PDLMIXM_20200327.0000.00_9.0_2baf524aaf.tgz
