I've had my AT&T Note 10 plus for over a week now, and for the first week the battery life was stellar. Three days ago seemingly out of nowhere, battery life had tanked. Some context - I came from a Note 9 which had fantastic battery life. Location on, widgets, notifications, etc were enabled. I feel I shouldn't have to yield to or cripple my phone to get decent battery life from it so I refuse to do that on a device that costs this much. It should just work.
Anyway, fast-forward to three days ago with my note 10+ - same settings and everything as my previous note 9 - and out of nowhere the battery life just starts to tank. Android System is seems to be the drain, but I'm not sure what in there is causing it. The phone is constantly warm. As an experiment, I've put it on airplane mode now with wifi still on and the phone has cooled down but I'm not sure yet if the battery is being drained less or not as it's only been a few minutes. But, I am losing about 6% battery/hr not even using the phone. That is rather unacceptable after it having worked just fine the first several days I've had it. I refuse to disable location and do other seemingly band-aid tricks to help the battery along as I don't feel that really solves the issue and should be unnecessary for a device that costs this much money. I also refuse to factory reset unless I ABSOLUTELY have to because these phones are a pain in the rear to setup, even with Samsung/Google's restore. So many settings to go in and manipulate.
I hope this resolves itself or I can get to the bottom of it somehow. I really love this phone and really don't want to go back to my iPhone XS Max over a battery issue but it is just unacceptable for the battery to drain like this with little to no actual use of the phone. The other night by the time I had placed it on the charger, android system was up over 30%...
is anyone else experiencing this problem?
I apologize if this has been discussed before - I couldn't find anything similar.
EDIT
After putting the phone in airplane mode (wifi left on), it has cooled down and battery drain seems to have improved. According to the battery graph it looks like the phone is also finally going to sleep. Previously the graph went straight down to the right with no flat spots.
What could this be? My cell reception hasn't changed and I'm at wit's end

I use Naptime from the play store by Francisco Franco and no as the title of his app says you don't get 9000% better battery. You'll need a couple of adb commands to get it to work it you're not rooted.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.doze&hl=en
This is a quote from Franco - Unbelievably improve the battery life during idle of your device by empowering Android's built-in Doze power saving functionality. It supports Marshmallow, Nougat, Oreo and now Pie. It features more options for rooted devices, but it'll also work if you're unrooted.
Naptime also allows you to disable WiFi, mobile data, location & bluetooth during doze for that battery life /flex ?
I find that I'm losing around 1 to 0.7% per hour is that normal or considered good? The other night my phone was at 95% I woke up 6 or so hours later and it was a 89%. I'll need to do some thorough testing, but I don't know what to make of those results.
Anyone on here have some advice on weather that idle time is good or bad? My device is an unlocked n10plus running Snapdragon
-If you charge to 100 and put it next to your bed. How much is it next morning?
-do you use the led cover?
-are there any less known apps in your list?
Switching off wifi, Bluetooth etc is useless. These are efficient enough nowadays.
I tested these kind of "tricks" and no difference after my nightly sleep test.
Sometimes an app like evernote, google foto's or journey is downloading a lot of data in your new phone.
---------- Post added at 02:06 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:51 AM ----------
With all my last Notes I get a .6 till .9% per hour in a situation where i put my Note next to my bed and do not touch it during sleeping hours.
I live on three different locations, in different countries even, and that shows some battery consuming difference. Routers and provider locations are not the same.
I have more than 180 apps installed. No games however.
I am not rooted, but use GSAM battery monitor. The quickest way to see the hourly consumption.
Factory reset means a full day work for me. E.g. banking apps need a lot of tuning. Even using Google and Samsung restore.

I charge it overnight while I'm sleeping. No lesser-known apps installed, no LED cover either. Not rooted. this literally happened out of nowhere after days of it being great. Not sure what could have happened, or if it's something on ATT's end? I don't know where else to look. I'm with you on the factory reset. It's such a waste of time and will take up hours.
mine also been facing this battery drain issue since day one. Tried using naptime just now and it improve my battery life ALOT!! Thanks for the suggestion

Pls try to charge it before going to bed and leave it to see how much it spends overnight w i t h o u t touching it. If it is higher than 1+%/hr something is wrong..
I buy a new phone every year because I am nuts. But I always register in Evernote my findings.
Frequently the power consumption is higher in the beginning, because a lot of background activity like data reading and background update of software.
If it is more than, let's say 1.2%/hr during overnight sleep it is not ok.
I am doing this test now with my Note 10+ 512 (Yes i am nuts, I told you) and will inform you later.
After seven hours .8%/hr which is normal.

I can tell you right now that it's losing 5-6% an hour just sitting there. The phone has been set up for days now so I know it's not the setup process. Like i said, it was fine for almost a week, then out of nowhere this happens...

Pffff, you have a problem. So in settings/maintenance/battery there no apps with high use?
After just rebooting the phone the consumption starts immediately?

Yes...I know I have a problem...Android System is the culprit. Beyond that, I do not know what in "android system" is causing it. Perhaps a wake lock bug? A wifi bug?
It's always the same with my Samsung devices it's rediciculus Samsung. On your note 10 or note 10+ before switching to flight mode set the network setting to 3g only! In 7 hours you will loose only 2% battery instead of 8 or more. Same was on my note 9 but Samsung finally patched this behavior a few month ago. Now the same with my note 10+.
This problem is only for the flight mode. So you can test 3 things in 3 nights. You have 3 options before going in flight mode. In network selection choose 3g only. Than watch what happens over night. Next time you choose 2g/3g only and you can try it with 2g only.
For me doing so 1-2 % battery drain in 7-8 hours.
I've pretty bad reception with 4G. But no crazy 25% drain over night, more like 4-5%. And that's with the non plus Note with exynos.
With naptime, do you get notifications instantly? I have auto sync on all the time, is there any issues around this?
Just bought a new galaxy note 10 and overnight from 100 % i have 57 this morning. Whats going on?
Is this normal on note 10 plus battery health?

My N10+ is about 3 weeks old, but I found, like you, that after a couple days of stellar battery life my idle was starting to drain pretty fast. Going to bed and waking about 6 hours later I was missing around 20%. This is with all apps closed, WiFi, BT, Location, Link to Windows, Mobile data, NFC, Sync, and AOD turned on. I turned off AOD, NFC, and Link to Windows. My battery drain since, for the better part of 2 weeks, has been about 5-6 percent. Around 1% an hour while sleeping. I don't know how I can help, but I hope this does. I honestly can't complain about this battery. I have been getting 6-7 of screen time before having to charge around 10%.
Edit: also turned off edge lighting, which I had enabled before.

I don't remember saying, "Here's a solution for you!" No, I simply posted what I did to stop the horrible battery drain that I was experiencing.
Also, I spent the $1,100 on this phone and I'm pretty sure I can use it however I want. Feature phone, paper weight, fish tank decoration..:good:
My N10+ has been sat on my desk and not used for 4 hours yet battery has gone from 100% to 78%.
I don't know how this is acceptable.

I have the reg note 10 and ive been battling this for a couple weeks. nothing seems to keep the system from sucking the batter dry. Standby life is a joke. i lost 40% today with the phone on for about 10 hours and 30 min SOT while i was at work. I cant figure out whats stuck in the system, tried literally everything

I am LOVING my battery life!!! I keep seeing people gating on the longevity but im not seeing it. Im not rooted yet and im still getting 18+ hours on an everyday basis.
Also seeing people talk about how their phone doesnt stay on 100%. My TB had that issue but my S3 will stay on 100% for an hour after being unplugged if i dont touch it. I havent found one thing to complain about with this device yet.
All notifications turned off except handcent sms. When im at home in the morning or evening i keep screen at 1% and 25% during the day. 45% if outside.
I have 4g turned off and 3g forced with "phone info" app. The only thing i cant figure out with this phone is turning off/on background data. After turning it back on after turning it off, my email errors out even though data is certainly on. So for now i just leave background data on. Im sure battery life would be even more impressive if i was able to figure this little bug out.
You loving or hating your battery life?
Mine is pretty ridiculous compared to the Nexus. I'm easily getting over 2.5 hours screen time, and yesterday I was at 61% after 12 hours and an hour of screen time.
Edit: Currently at 90% after 5 hours off the charger today. Not much screen time, though.

I'm not very impressed with battery life...yet. I think I've got some sort of issue going on. My "Android System" entry is very high. Sometimes higher than screen. Anyone have any ideas as to what my problem is? Another note is that my phone is always warm to the touch, even with screen off, and nothing (intentionally) happening in the background.

Do you mind posting a SS of your settings on the Phone Info app?
My Verizon S3 is horrible. Even after a full wipe (x3) and custom clean rom and frozen apps that run as services.. Just sitting on my desk, it's bad.. 6 hours into the day and i'm down to 60%. Awesome phone, Samsung!
I'm very impressed with my battery life. It is such a leap from my Inc. Yesterday I got 15 1/2 hours with 5 hours screen time! It was a really good day. Usually get around 12+ with around 4 screen time. Mine also stays on 100% for a little bit after charging. I have yet to root, and haven't really changed to many settings to help with battery life. So I'm pretty sure it can do even better!

My battery life has been nothing short of amazing (my wife too, who got her SGS3 the same day as me). I haven't rooted, so just disabled a few apps and did some minor tuning of settings... the best example I can give is this past Saturday...
We drove 600 miles on a round-trip through three different states, a mixture of back roads, typical suburban areas and through two major cities, so in other words a good mix of connectivity, some roaming for sure included... I used the phone a fair bit throughout the day because we went to a family gathering, so there were quite a few pictures being taken with it and people playing with the "new hotness" of course... I played games for a bit on the ride (err, when my wife was driving at the time!), checked mail, Twitter and Facebook probably once or twice an hour on average (I know, I have no life), a little web surfing to look stuff up, played with S Voice for a few minutes, streamed some Pandora for a while and used GPS for a few minutes here and there. The WHOLE DAY I had wi-fi, GPS, mobile data, NFC and background sync turned on (only things turned off were bluetooth and LTE).
Phone came off the charger at 8am with 100% charge... By 9pm that night I JUST hit 50%! And by the time I finally went to bed at around 2am it was at right around 25% (because I read for an hour or so with it before falling asleep).
That, to me, is pretty freakin' phenomenal! The only time I ever saw comparable battery life was my Epic with the big, fat extended battery. And, again, this is 100% stock with minimal tuning and I'm not sacrificing any feature that I care anything about (I don't have all the motion gestures or face unlock or stay turned on for example because I can live without those just fine). I DO ensure that the apps I have installed are all completely well-behaved and I turn all off but a very small handful of push notifications, that's the sort of "tuning" I'm talking about.
So yeah, count me as completely ecstatic about my SGS3 battery life for sure
Im NOT rooted or anything and running everything stock and every single day I have managed to get at the very least 4 hours of screen on time. I have brightness on 50% with wifi on and no airplane mode. Battery is amazing on this phone and I could not be loving it anymore.

So it seems from this thread, non-rooted users are getting better battery over rooted?
my gf's verizon (100% stock) gs3 is ridiculous... 14 hours with 53% left and 2.5 hours of screen time. compared to my AT&T GS3 which is at the same level after 6 hours and 2 hours of screen.
a lot of it may also have to do with what networks you're on; i.e. my gf was on wifi all day whereas i was at work in/out of LTE/HSPA+.

in this thread it seems that way but read thru the other 100 threads about this same topic and you will the battery life increases after rooting and debloating. Im seeing anywhere from 21-27hrs battery life with around 4hrs screen on. Brightness 50% avg., wifi, data, and gps all on...no air plane mode!
I wonder if it might be helpful to list off the apps we all have disabled (or removed entirely for rooted users)? Might be an interesting comparison point. Here's mine:
AllShare Controller
AllShare Play
ChatON
Dropbox (interestingly, I have two of them listed and disabled- everyone else?)
Email (replace with K9)
Exchange services
Flipboard (I prefer the plain old Google Reader app, believe it or not!)
Game Hub
Gmail (I use the web version)
Google Play Books
Google Play Movies
Google Play Music

Google+
Kies Air
Media Hub

Music Hub

Polaris Viewer 4.0 (replaced with Documents To Go)
S Planner widget
S Suggest

Samsung Apps
Samsung Push Service

Sprint Zone
Stock Dameon(EUR)

One other thing I just thought of: I'm using Go Launcher. Just in case TouchWiz is a power hog somehow
Was on wifi most of the day yesterday since I was at home, but I'm going on 2 hours of screen on (not much I know) and 30 hours and i'm still at 41% battery.
Here's my battery life:

getting AMAZING battery life. (im not rooted, everything stock, didn't disable any apps.)
i got about 8 hours from the tbolt.
getting about 14 hours from s3. but the thing is... im getting the 14 hours using my phone freely! with my tbolt i was always concerned about using it up and was careful way too much. if i used the tbolt the way im using the s3, id probably get more like 5-6 hours.

Nothing running in the background - even using lowest brightness and power savings mode turned on.
Even when I was 100% stock, the battery was pretty terrible so I doubt there's an issue with the rom.
I'm pretty happy with mine. By the end of day yesterday it's 40% after 14 hours with just a little under 3 hours screen time. I'm on WiFi the first half of the day and on 4G the rest. Didn't seem to be much different if the 4G signal is decent. At work it seems drain a little faster without the screen on, I think due to the poor 4G signal here.
Yep I am loving this phone. It is getting double the battery life of my rezound which had the 2700 battery. I'm only losing 1% an hour on standby overnight. I don't have that feeling of - oh I want to play with my phone but I better not if I want to be able to use it in an emergency later.

I'm also coming from a Thunderbolt, but I had the OEM extended battery (2750mAh), so for me the Galaxy S III is a little more constraining. The Thunderbolt with extended battery would last through a day (~16 hours) with moderate-heavy use.
The Galaxy S III will also last ~16 hours, but the use has to be closer to light-moderate (~3 hours screen on). I've got power saving mode on, I'm not using WiFi at all, and I'm running it completely stock and unrooted (but with some bloat disabled).
Overall, I'd say the battery life is decent. I am, however, looking forward to an OEM extended battery.
Yesterday a post was made to /r/nexus5 on reddit about how battery life was getting worse as time went on. Over 100 people replied saying that their phone was getting worse battery life as well. Here's the link: http://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus5/comments/1yxj2g/battery_life_went_from_insane_to_terrible/ The most people were able to find out was that there was a problem with the Android OS process. Are you guys having similar issues? And do you have any fixes?
Batteries do lose their max charge over time. We're now 6 months aged for the first purchased devices, so it could simply be those batteries are starting to age. They still have years to go, but a brand new battery will always be impressive.
It's one reason why I silently laugh at people bragging about great battery life for a brand new device. of course it will get good life, it's a new battery running optimized software that isn't pushing the hardware as hard as the software 2 years into a device life cycle.
posted by people that know nothing..
as time goes on, you install more and more apps. many apps arent coded very well, and have other issues. anyways, people get more and more of these crappy apps that will drain more and more battery without you even using them. anywho, not a problem here. i get pretty much the exact same battery life now as i did months ago.

great battery life for an "old" device, 5-6 hours screen on time every single day. the batteries life doesnt reduce that quick, and generally youll change phones(within 2 years) before you see the life of your battery shorten.

6 months isn't going to be noticeably less max charge unless the battery was severely abused. Also the phone has been out for 4 months and most are younger.
Here's something to think about: Usage patterns change. People install new apps.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Indeed usage patterns play a massive part. And some of which can be completely out of your control.
At home on WiFi I'll get 6-7 hours of screen time.
At home on hspa I'll get 5-6
At work on hspa I'll get 3-4
So at worst case scenario I can lose half of my normal battery usage just based on the carrier performance.

I get about 3-4 hours SoT daily... If anything, that has gone up since I got my device (one of the first batches shipped in US).
I wish I could get 5-7 SoT, with numbers like that, I'm beginning to think I'm doing something very very wrong
Point is... I have one of the first phones shipped out, and my battery life has stayed exactly the same.
High battery usage by Android OS is probably good indication that there are some wakelocks. It has nothing to do with battery being "older".
My battery is great from day one.
Captain obvious mode now:
Posting SoT is pointless and proves nothing. It really depends on what you are doing when screen is on. It is really obvious that it is not the same if you read some book with 5% brightness or play a game.
My SoTs go from 2h up to 7h, depending on usage...

LOL. Yep. Give me a day and I'll show you screenies of ten hours of SOT. It'll be BS because to get those results I have to set my phones brightness to less than stock. I also have to set screen timeout to 30 minutes. As well I need to remember to turn the damn screen back on after 30 minutes. I also have to make sure my phone is in my sock drawer doing nothing when the screen is on. It'll still show 10 hours SOT though.

Only 10? Think you could do much higher in those conditions.

Yeah, the common problem.... My battery just is used for 5 hours.
But there are some fixs to follow:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1168036
I posted my usual screen times on a typical day for me.
Typically I do the same things which are a lot of xda and viewing the verge and YouTube. A few calls and texts.
And from my experience the difference between being at home with WiFi off and being at work with WiFi off is that my battery usually lasts nearly twice as long at home.
I was trying to get across the message that your carriers signal strength plays a massive role on how long your battery lasts.
So say if a mast went down and you get bumped onto one a bit further away (they don't rush when fixing these things unless it's a critical one). You would have done nothing and all of a sudden your battery life has started taking a massive hit.

I'm also having this problem with the android os draining my batter And this started happening within the last week or so.I used to be able to easily get about 30 hours out of my phone, now I'm only able to get about half that. As you can see in the 4th pic, android os has been the cause of a 3h45m partial wakelock, which doesnt seem right to me and is probably the cause of most of the battery drain. the last 2 pics are something that also seems weird to me, as google accounts manager shouldnt take 4% in about an hour. I dont even know why its running that long. Though i know how to quick fix the account manager drain (simply disable it) the android os isnt that simple as i dont know how to see exactly what apps or processes are making it cause a partial wakelock.
Im on omnirom using chaos kernel 9.2

I had a similar issue a while back, and in the end it was Google location reporting within Google now service. Try to switch location reporting off but leave location history on and see if it helps. Also choose Location mode to battery saving.
Turning off location reporting does not affect Google Now functionality...
It can be something else in your case, but this problem was common...

One thing I've noticed as a weirdness is the cache of a phone can get stale and so it gets into some weird loop that drains battery or something and clearing the cache improves battery life. Also sometimes apps can develop bugs or new wakelocks when you do an update so sometimes you have to stay on top of it to track it.

If I did not use some preventative measures to prolong battery life I would maybe get 14-16 hours in a day of usage, I always left wifi on, bluetooth even when not connected, data, force LTE, etc. I did not care because I charge my phone every night. I just find it silly if I get a day usage out of my phone and it is at 50% well assuming you use the phone the exact same as the last day you will use another 50% and it will be dead by the time you get to your charger.
I got my Z5 this monday and the first day it worked like a charm. Then it started to drain the battery faster than usual, if I browse the web or reddit with the Reddit Now! app - my battery starts to drain about 2% every minute or so. I first checked if I had any sync issues but there was none then I started to delete all apps I did not need. Still the same issue. Today I barely used my phone, only 3 hours of SOC but it was not heavy usage. I only use WhatsApp, Reddit Now, Chrome and Snapchat(almost never) and today the only thing that should've had an impact on the battery was WhatsApp. Somehow the WiFi shows as "on" but I never use WiFi when at school - so basically everything between 08:00 and 16:00 was pure 4G.
I really love this phone, but the battery is not what they promised. And it gets really hot during normal use! Here is some pictures, hope you guys can help me figure this out...

Yeah, that is strange because my previous phone LG G3 had perfect network signal... I've heard from other Z5 users that the network signal is bad on the phones..
The battery is varying almost too much for my taste... However I have found one of the sources for the problem - Spotify is a huge battery drain, dropping almost 3% every minute and heats up the phone to the point of no touching...
Having Facebook notifications on also causes big drain

You're absolutely not alone.. I also have abysmal battery life on my Z5.
Here's my stats from yesterday (full day at work)
h ttp://imgur.com/VF2b45g (remove the space)
WiFi, 3hrs 20mins SoT.
Battery lasted pretty much exactly 12hours, thats pretty far from 2 days promised by Sony. My old Z3 didn't have me worry about my battery at the end of the day, I knew it would last..
(Yes i have bad reception at my job (I work in a TV studio) but again, my Z3c handled that like a champ.
I HATE myself so much for jumping the wagon early. I expected the same exceptional battery life as my old Z3, only in a shiny new package. To say im unimpressed and incredibly disappointed is an understatement of proportions.
I'm currently fighting for a full refund and cancellation of my subscription from my carrier. Considering a Oneplus2, despite it also running the 810, which many seem to point to as the culprit for our battery life.
You really should get a new Z5, then. I haven't encountered any of those issues, but regarding the battery, maybe a full cycle charge could improve some things. Aside from that, I reckon to install Clean Master, just to see which apps are running in background constantly so you can end them. Worst case scenario, perform a factory reset.
Uninstall anything you've installed and disable any system apps you will never ever want or need and run it for a couple days and see how it is. Then start installing the apps you want again

This is my 4th Z5 actually
They all had this battery problem, they've all been through at least one full cycle as well. Done factory resets, also reinstalled firmware from PC Companion. Tried WiFi ON, OFF, doesn't matter, when ever i turn the screen on i get massive drain upwards of 1% per minute/2minutes. Autobrightness (45/50%)
Today stats: h ttp://imgur.com/6K45leg (again remove the space , thanks Obama!)
Android system and Kernel are top users in battery. Screen is 3rd.....
Sure, 55% in 11 hours is pretty good, but not with a little under 2hrs SoT.... SONY IM DISAPPOINTED!!
1st: Camera button was dead on arrival
2nd: Wonky loose power button, ****ty battery
3rd: ****ty battery, Stamina mode didn't work
4th: Working okay, deep sleeps, but drains insane amounts when screen is on, doing nothing, browsing, reddit etc.
I assume you still have not solved your issue? I'm getting almost identical stats on my Z5 in GSam.

Sadly no.. I'm getting approx 2.5H of SOT... I've tried many things, nothing helps. And the battery usage still reports my WiFi being on even though I turn WiFi off and all background scanning.. I'm getting really annoyed that Sony pretty much lied to us about the battery.. But I feel like the problem lies with the constant WiFi on, even though it is off.

Yup I have similar problems as well. Wifi won't turn on, and getting about 2.5hrs SoT out of a 100% juiced battery.
Maybe you 2 should try a full reset and completely re set up from scratch?

The battery seems to have "settled". I use these " " because some days the battery drains faster than water in the desert, and some days it lasts pretty much more than 4H SOT. Maybe there is some software issue? Because my WiFi is on 24/7 even when I HAVE disabled it and disabled all related settings to WiFi...
I have the same issues with wifi reporting on in the battery stats even if I turn it off. It doesn't show on in GSAM battery monitor so not sure what that's about. It also consistently reports low signal on the battery page and on my notification bar, whereas my Z3 reported high signal in the same place. If I do a speed test on 4G the speed is about the same, so I think that might be an issue with the displaying of signal rather than it not picking up much signal. My battery life is "OK", in that it will last 24-28 hours usually. My Z3 was quite a lot better.
I seem to have crappy mobile connection too. I game, watch videos and so on and get excellent battery life
I got the app greenify it shuts down all the apps for you or u can get it to do so before putting phone back in pocket, it has helped as I'm the same, battery drains in 6 hours max...
Facebook and messenger seem to take a lot of battery , Iv had Windows and iPhone they don't drain like this... Must be android system

Not even Airplane Mode is enough to stop WiFi showing up on my battery usage stats. Turning off "Network notification" (Notify whenever a public network is available) under Advanced Wi-Fi seems to do the trick though.
The only other gap in Wi-Fi battery usage appear to be my commute to work in a car - no Wi-Fi on the motorway so the OS must be truly turning Wi-Fi off then too. Sitting in an office with who knows how many Wi-Fi signals about must be keeping it on (only when the aforementioned Network notification setting is on).
I don't have any particular battery issues - I get a full day no problem - but maybe this is the reason that Sony's claimed 2-day battery seems a fantasy to me...
Let's clear this up, Sony never promised 2 days battery life, they stated "UP TO" 2 days battery life. ahead signal is going to drain the battery fast, if your like me and live in a crossover point of towers the phone is probably constantly switching between them. On an old phone I sat and watched it switching towers. Anyway my battery drains reasonably fast and the phone wasn't going to sleep but it's started to now, and I'm getting battery life then my previous phone, so I'm still happy about it and I'm a pretty heavy user with games, browsing etc.
When I first got my S7 the battery seemed to be draining pretty quickly, being totally unable to get through a full day without needing a recharge. In fact it would get down to about 20% within 7 hours. One night I charged it to 100% before bed, and then left it off charge, and it used up 15% overnight. I looked up some other people's reports, which seemed to suggest that the normal battery drain overnight should be closer to 5%. In fact on the "reviews" section on XDA, a lot of people seem to say that 1% overnight is more normal. I do use the AOD though, which I hear might use up 1% per hour? so I should be maybe getting between 8% and 10% overnight I guess.
I have done a full factory reset, thinking that perhaps it was being caused by an app or setting that had transferred during the NFC auto transfer process, so I did a clean install of everything, followed by wiping the cache. Fresh tidy install. Battery definitely seemed better, but still not great. I did another test last night, a shorter one but still should be enough info for people to help. (hopefully).
I've included the screenshots, which show a 7% drop in battery in 3.5 hours, so a typical 'overnight' is still going to be about 15%, way higher than 'normal' apparently.
I do leave everything running overnight, but from other user's reports that shouldn't matter. I have wifi set to turn off on sleep unless charging. Doze seems to have worked this time (which it wasn't before my factory reset), though it doesnt seem to have helped the battery drain much.
The weird part is that the built in battery app is saying GooglePlayServices is draining a lot of battery, but GSAM seems to think it hardly used any battery at all....

My main reason for chasing after this is that I have just come from an xperia Z5 compact, which will happily get me through a day at work and to bedtime with 40%+ battery left, and could potentially last through two days. True, it has a smaller screen, but then the S7 has a bigger battery. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Since it is not an app that is draining the battery, which means there are two possibilities.
First one would be that certain settings are draining the battery, like all the smart stuff and the beacon that always searches for devices nearby.
I personally don't use AOD because I don't find it that useful, plus it uses quite a lot of juice. So just look through the setting and turn off everything you don't use.
The second one would be the firmware.
I once had an update which made my battery just suck. I got quite fed up with it and decided to move to a custom rom and I've never had any problems since then. I also use greenify and L-speed to make my battery last even longer and since I am a quite heavy user, but with mixed use I get about 15-10% by bedtime.
Hope this helps you to fix your problem.

Changing rom isn't really an option, as there is no way to do it without tripping knox. Not worth the effort at this point.
I already have the WiFi and Bluetooth constant scanning turned off, and WiFi turns off when the phone is asleep (or is meant to anyway).

I would try to flash a newer firmware via odin. That shouldn't trip Knox. But if that doesn't help then it might not be a software problem anymore.
I found that the AOD was preventing the phone entering Doze, disabled mine and got a lot better results overnight, down to about 2-3%
Lived without an AOD for years, don't need one draining my battery now

Same, though I do like the feature at times. If it actually showed notifications for whatsapp or facebook I would definitly keep it, but it only shows texts and calls (and I rarely get either) so I can live without it.
If it had a setting to stay off unless you tap the screen, then show for say 5-10 seconds, and turn off again, and like you say, had useful notifications to show, then I might, but as it is atm, it's just a pointless battery drain

Actually, something I learnt over the weekend (and you may know about already), is that the AOD screen will turn off if you turn the phone face down on the table, or have it in a pocket. I believe it uses the proximity sensor. When you pick it up, it turns back on.
Also, according to this article, it uses roughly the same amount of power "turned off" due to the proxy sensor, as it does when it's totally disabled. So maybe that's an option.

Yea I remember reading about the face down thing a while back, didn't have a case back then though, and wasn't going to put the phone on it's screen, still, seems like more hassle picking it up and turning it around to see the AOD than just hitting the home button
Maybe 7.0 will improve AOD, if it was useful I wouldn't mind the drain as much, tbh I'm sitting at a PC most of the day anyway, so for the time I can just look at the computer, if I get a text the screen on the phone turns on anyway, and the only other thing is WhatsApp really, and I need to turn the screen on to reply on there, so tbh, AOD is pointless whichever way you look at it, for me anyway

I actually have the "easy on" setting turned on, so all I do is wave my hand over the screen to turn it on. Even easier than pressing the home button haha.
lol nice, I turn all that stuff off, don't like my phone waiting for gestures, accident waiting to happen
I especially hate WhatsApp when you are listening to a voice message, touch the top of the phone to move or turn it slightly, and the proximity sensor thinks you've put it to your ear and stops the message

The proximity sensor is running all the time anyway, so it's nothing extra. Though I do agree that it is sometimes annoying when it turns the screen off when you don't want it to.
Yea it's not using any extra resources, but I don't want to activate something without realising because I reached over my phone to pick something up off the desk lol
The WhatsApp thing doesn't turn off the screen, it just stops the playback of the voice message, PITA
Update: So I tried it last night with AOD turned off, and the battery drain.... was basically the same. Still averages out to about 14% over 7 hours. Hmm.
Well sony is known for a good standby so nothing you can really do about this but a full charge on the s7 should het you to 1 full day atleast so turn of sync and locations.

I have this setting on too. I wonder how much power this little feature costs? To have the sensors always on and looking to identify the exact right circumstances to fire up the display can’t be for free.
BTW it works great and never fails or lights up at the wrong moment for long. The phone has to be quite still (accelereometer) and the proximity sensor has to be triggered. This leads me to believe that quite a bit of the battery power goes this way. What do you think?

Well my only worry is I have a glitch or a bad battery, as a lot of reports on the xda reviews pages are saying that they get overnight battery drains closer to 5%, which is a lot less than I'm getting. This means my daily use is always going to be shorter, and my battery will wear out faster.

Well I know the proxy sensor is on for the AOD anyway, because of the auto shut off. I assumed it was a sensor that was just always running, like the accelerometers. They don't use much power really.

My wifi is set to turn off during sleep, unless the phone is on charge... Though the GSam app seems to say it's always on? That app seems a bit innacurate on other things too though, so I dunno if it's just cos the phone isn't rooted that it's not able to see things properly.
Hi to all,
I bought Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G 12GB/256GB (Exynos 2200) one week ago and noticed abnormal battery drainage for a new device.
I read on the Samsung official page battery can be consumed a little faster right after purchase and I should wait for all the background operations and syncing to complete.
But six days after I started to use my new device, the battery cannot even last until the evening. Today at 08:30 AM I had 100 % of the battery, at 5:30 PM it went all down to 0 % with light to moderate usage. Literally.
In battery settings, it says the full charge will last about 11h 55 min which is a ridiculously small estimation for a flagship mobile phone.
I installed all kinds of different apps to check battery capacity and health and didn't notice any deviations.
So my question is if this is normal for the first week of usage or something is very wrong with the battery or sofware?

Go into the Samsung Members app on the phone and on the lower right you can select Support, run diagnostics for the phone’s battery and contact Samsung tech support. This should be your first steps trying to get Samsung involved with getting your battery problem resolved.
I have submitted this issue through the Samsung Members app. Diagnostics for the phone's battery also says that the battery is good among the 2-3 battery health apps I have installed.
I think the problem is not so much hardware as the software which drains this battery abnormally.
I used Smart Switch to transfer all my apps and other data to my new phone before first use. As I read here and on other forums/Reddit this could be the problem. I did a factory reset yesterday and will see how the battery will perform next few days, only transferred contacts and SMS messages (today battery's performance is still very poor). My notifications didn't work for some apps transferred through Smart Switch, but now they do work.
This thread describes exactly my problem:

If anyone has some other ideas about why this is happening, I would be very grateful to hear them.
I have bought S22 ultra used 1 week ago and mada backup from S21 with smart switch. Abnormal drain usage here too.. i have set ALWAYS ON "on touch" and seems it stopped a little battery drain..
Anyway, how do you think level volume is? It seems lower (sound and vibration) comparated to S21..
This just confirms my theory this is a software rather than a hardware issue.
I am not keen to turn off features why I bought the device in the first place so the battery does not drain until 5:30 PM.
Also, I did not mention that I get battery overheating occasionally while I am not running any demanding apps (mostly I use a web browser, social media apps, etc.).
BTW, I got a response from a Samsung Member app and it is quite generic and not really of any help as expected.
I think level volume is quite satisfying compared to my previous device, Huawei P30 Pro.
On my S22, always on "always active" drains battery very fast.. now it seems returned "normal".. like you, i think too it's a software issue and not hardware, but i haven't tested S22 after a cleare factory reset so i can't be sure about this
Hi, this isn't normal behavior. If diagnostic says that the battery itself is ok, then it must be a software issue. What application is reported as more battery consuming in the statistic? Have your try to run for a day the phone in safe mode to check if this changes?

Hi to all,
I bought Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G 12GB/256GB (Exynos 2200) one week ago and noticed abnormal battery drainage for a new device.
Thanks for your help.

Hello. It's not normal, of course. Definitely a new battery should last longer. Maybe you got a defective phone. Rarely goes to the experts.
Well it is a well known issue that smart switch can make a lot of trouble to your new phone. I'd strongly suggest you try to factory reset again, preferably from recovery and manually set it up, it I'll take time but you will notice the difference after the settling time pases. There should definitely be something software related. After using the phone for more than a year and read a lot of info on the subject, with most of the functions on and no tricky hacks, mine last a full day with 5 to 6 hours sot. If I use it from 8 am to say 11 pm, I can get from 6 to 7 hours sot. Hope it helps.

Well I tried to turn off AOD but didn't get any improvements.

Right now is WhatsApp, and sometimes is Google Maps, Facebook, etc. Nothing unusual here. The percentage is also normal. Haven't tried run a phone in safe mode, but guess I can try.

I really don't think it's a hardware issue but of course I will take a phone for further diagnostics if I don't see any improvements in the next few days/weeks.

Didn't know Smart Switch is a well-known issue. Why do you think I should perform a factory reset again? I did manually set it up yesterday, only transferred contacts and sms through SS. Now all my apps are working properly, at least that is something I solved.

Yeah this thing with Smart switch I witnessed since the note 20 ultra and again with the s22u. I think you should reset again specially if you didn't do it from the recovery menu, maybe you can first wipe cache from there and give it s try a few days and then the hard reset from there as last option.
Quick update: I think the battery's life has some improvements. I lost only 5 % overnight (around 8 h of sleep). Previously my battery drained for 15-20 % in that period.
Yesterday around 3 PM I had 80 % after charging and now it's 31 % but also with light/moderate usage.
Unfortunately, seems factory reset and not using Smart Switch for app transfer did not improve battery life.
Here are the stats after three days of using it:

Health still looks good, but 5 h of SOT (20 % per hour) is unacceptable.
Yesterday battery temperature went to 40° C and I wasn't even using the phone, just felt the heat. No apps in the background, nothing. Very unusual.
Guess my only option now is to go to the service for further physical diagnostics.
