Is there a ROM for Nexus 5 with security updates AND works with Google apps? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would be happy to run ResurrectionRemix (Pie) but even the smallest GApps package from Open GApps fails to install because there's not enough space once RR is installed. TWRP reports around 48 MB available in the system partition.

Been using it since October 2018 as a daily driver for an old Nexus 5 phone n it's been serving me great
Regular security patches too (last was April 2019 for Pie)
Also takes GAPPs

Do repartition before.
Follow this https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79928889&postcount=190
Then flash RR and gapps.

chmbrnl: Thanks for the suggestion. I would have loved to try AOSP but couldn't find any site that actually provides AOSP ROM builds. I did see AOSPExtended - is that the one you mean? If not, can you tell me where the AOSP ROMs are available?
srepole: Thanks for your suggestion. I was hesitant to follow the procedure you referenced, which calls for installing somebody's modified TWRP recovery from an unknown (at least to me) Mega account and then running a script whose author is also unknown to me. But since I knew of no other option for getting a system that met my requirements, I took your advice and followed the procedure. And as far as I can tell it worked perfectly and my durable ol' Nexus 5 is up and running RR Pie and GApps like a champ!
Thanks to both of your for your input and help!

That's (#2) something different
For AOSP (#1) by Unlegacy Android Project, download it at https://notredame.app.box.com/s/26a4bygh9vbaw7jjq08xr5evomvaw5ww

[Q] battery question on CM10.2.1

Hi, I am getting awful battery lasting time - while working on the phone it is dead within 2 and half hours. If I leave it on stand-by, it lasts maximum 10 hours. I'd like at least 20 hours on stand-by and I don't want to use Greenify and xposed. I just think I need an updated kernel, but I want to stay on this rom - 10.2.1 unless there is another one just as stable as this one?
Here are my details:
CM10.2.1 rom with 3.44.66 kernel
Can somebody please teach me how to install just the updated kernel? Is there a CWM flashable .zip of the kernel only, and if so - could you please attach that .zip to your post? Thank you very much in advance!
Sent from my SGH-T699 using XDA Free mobile app
I use kernel tuner and underclock both CPU to 1350. And I undervolt also but you would have to use blackbird kernel for that. I hope this helps.
I am a noob; I don't know how to install just the kernel. Also does blackbird kernel work with CM10.2.1? Where do I get that kernel from? Can u attach it to ur post? If it is just a .zip file that I can just flash it with CWM. I really need help, detailed instructions and the file. Thank you very much in advance!

Not sure how it would run on 4.3.1 . I myself would upgrade the ROM as a starting point. I see ur on cm. There are later versions of cm for the relay. Go here for up to date cm releases.

There are other ROMs for our device. Look around and see what you like. Im on liquid smooth. It's filled with custom settings. However the latest release has GPS bug. Cm may have this as well. Its kinda hit or miss. Good luck, have fun and always make a backup.

As I take a second glance the cm version of backbird is down . only for reventech rom s like L's. Im not sure how mixing and Matching would go. Be sure to read read read the op.
hi, actually i dont know if you noticed but these two are the same links and the other link is down. i've already been there because thats how i got where i am today, because these links still dont have what i am looking for: a download of just the kernels in zip CWM flashable formats for CM10.2.1. i've been looking for this, but i cant find it and that is why i am asking for help here.

Best stable Custom ROM for XT1033?

Hello there,
I'm new to the forum here. I've Moto G XT1033. I'd like to know which Custom ROM is most stable and can be used as a daily driver. I see tons of Custome ROMs for Marshmallow. I'd like to know which one is most stable.
Help me out!
Official CM is the best and stable in every aspect.

I'd like the Marshmallow. I want like stable one. For daily driver. As stock as possible. It's like the ROM has to look like it was developed by Motorola itself. I don't mind some additional features.

I don't see any major bugs in CM 13 it's pretty stable ,fast and perfect for regular usage ,if you sit to find bugs I would call them glitches ,almost all the ROM's are basically stable developers can't inspect each and everything all what is tested is all the basic things and there are glitches in each ROM even stock ROM is stable of nay device including all NEXUS devices like CM 13 has screenshot sound in DND mode, camera sound in DND mode.

Install CM 13 and if you want there are additional features as well if not then don't use them it's stable for daily usage I have been using it since a long time it was my first ROM I installed in Motorola Moto G ,all others are not very different from CM as CM is the base of most ROM's if not CM it's Stock Based.
this is my review on custom ROMs for XT1033.
Marshmallow;
+ Official CM13 (and everything based on it)
i wouldnt call it stable yet, when i compare it with the latest builds CM12.1. sure if you flash regularly you get things fixed but then things that were working on previous builds all of a sudden does not work on new builds, i dont blame anyone, afterall that's why they are called nightlies. as for show stoppers; you cannot disable SIMs, adhoc WIFI problems, and despite DOZE being alternatively implemented the battery life is not even comparable with CM12.1 which itself is a battery hog compared to CM11. these are major disappointments in CM13 for XT1033.
havent tried AOSP + CAF, AOSPB, Slim 6, but I think your best bet would be Identity Crysis 6.0, its still taking shape, but from forum info appears to be working fine.
Lollipop
+fonz unofficial CM12.1 has all the latest security/kernel/CM updates, and super stable.
+ lost101 optimized Stock 5.1 with Kamineri Kernel
nothin beats this, with Xposed + gravitybox this is pure awesomeness
+ Exodus 5.1 with hurtsky kernel
personal favourite, i'm back on this. has everything you need and rock stable. not updated since dec/2015 though
+ BrokenOS 5.1 with hurtsky kernel
has everything you'll ever need and rock stable.
+ SlimSaber 5.1
favourite from the SlimLP ROMs
+ Dirty Unicorns 9.8
AOSP based with everything
Kitkat
i would only recommend lost101 optimized Stock 4.4.4 because i found all custom ROMs including CM11 (with most time spent on crDroid 4.4.4) to be patchy with FCs here and there for XT1033
If you ask me,I will suggest you give a try to Resurrection Remix. It is marshmallow based, updated frequently and the latest build is really good.

I'm using cm13 for my xt1033 and it's running smooth without any kind of problem
Using IDCrisis as my daily driver - stock build and rock solid
I installed AOSP CAF after lots of research. Very happy with it. RR and IDC has some extras that I don't like. It's my opinion
Thanks for the suggestion all of you.
you can also try Exodus 6.0. thought first builds were only recently released, and it is a work-in-progress, these guys dont disappoint.
FYI it is not based on CM13, and AOSP and CAF based
I agree on Exodus 6.0 . Very stable even tho still nightly. Battery backup is good too, I m getting around 4.5 hours.
Exodus 6.0.1! Although i really liked AOSP-CAF 6.0.1 for it's simpleness and cleanness. But Exodus has a bit better performance and stability in my perception.
edit: forgot to mention that i have not yet tested CM13

How to workaround??
Solved, I've just remove the setup wizard from /system/priv-app by using twrp's file manager.

I am going to try this with OpenGapps as with the given one I can't able to add google account and more over there is no Google play services at all and I have to manually download from the apkmirror and even after doing that It keeps crashing. It is based on purely stock Lineage OS, not with extra commits.
OpenGapps will delete some apps and thus the ROM will have many issues eg no launcher or some apps may miss.
Try flashing the ROM and the Gapps (that I gave) without booting and of course wipe everything again
-BE AWARE-
Flash the given Gapps without booting the system. Let me be more specific. Do not boot the ROM before flashing the given Gapps, otherwise you will have many issues.
Also OpenGapps will delete Pixel Launcher and thus you won't be able to use the ROM

FM Radio on AOSP ROMS

G'day XDA.
I have found out that AOSP ROMs (Lineage OS, Cosmic OS etc.) doesn't have the built in FM radio app when flashing the firmware. However the stock Samsung Touchwiz ROMs have the FM and works flawlessly.
So what exactly is the reason why AOSP has this issue? Is it possible to get it working?
My Chipset:
Exynos 7870
Mali GPU
Cheers!
I have managed to obtain a copy of the Motorolla FM Radio and it launches. It gives the error: currently not available.
I believe it need the libraries ported from the stock ROM to the AOSP ROM.

It looks like this may not be developed an longer, not sure because I didn't give it that detailed of a read, but you might try:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/spirit-fm/app-spirit2-free-source-real-fm-radio-t2951455
or
https://f-droid.org/en/packages/fm.a2d.sf/
In both cases, I'd try to use the F-Droid repo in case they are getting updated. The play store links no longer work and when I searched for them there was a result suggesting that the original developer has died, so hopefully they work for AOSP in its current state.

He was a patient dude when I had troubles with an app permission. Most developers don't even bother to address emails, I found out when I was gapps free for a while and was asking people to switch me from Google verification to Paypal.
Also know that he was, for a long time, the only dude in Android development that was working on FM receivers and transmitters on Android, as far as I know, so I hope the apps are still available and work out for you.

[PIE - Testing] Pixel Experience for Polaris - By SusanaXDA

I have built Pixel Experience as a testing rom , I think its stable enough for daily use. I don't have much time to test it so please if you find any bug just tell me and I´ll fix it. Thanks to LineageOS device tree and kernel.
IMPORTANT- Once installed mount system go to /system/app/ims (remove whole folder ) , go to /system/priv-app/CNEservice (remove whole folder ). This is mandatory in order to get data working.
Code:
https://mega.nz/#!x6Zi2CYT!XyRa9Oii_1fc4L4dwJGm3g8Eyl6vR7WjrEvmgx7Rm_E
I installed this ROM right after installing a MIUI ROM, then followed the required steps, and it doesn't boot (it gets stuck at the Google logo). I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I will. Just one thing... do you have a link to the latest dev global rom? I want to make sure I'm installing the right one.

OK, I just followed all the steps and it seems to be running extremely well. I had been installing GSIs for the latest four days and none of them worked properly, so... I can't begin to thank you enough.

There seems to be one hiccup, though. I tried to install Magisk and, although TWRP tells me everything went fine, when I boot there seems to be no trace of SU or Magisk Manager.

Also, the notification light doesn't seem to work!

Double tap to wake and double press on the power button to open the camera don't seem to work either. Still loving the ROM tho

No, i don't see it work.
People were asking about a PE Pie port so I built it. Device tree related bugs will be fixed by LineageOs devs so I cannot do nothing about that.
This is an early P rom , as same as our Pie device tree so bugs and not working things are common.
I just beg you to be patient , I´ll build the rom each relevant change , so it'll be updated , don't worry about that.
I am working right now for a CAF rom , I am mainly building it for myself but if you like I´ll share it here and support it too.
I am a bit noob dev so I cannot fix really hard things (I am still learning) , I just wanted to show this forum that Mi Mix 2S has a community of devs (few but there we are) and satisfy pie needs of Polaris users.
Thanks a lot for your support and feedback.

Firstly, thank you for your contribution and development on this rom. I have used many roms and this is the rom I like best. Thank you very much and look forward to your future updates! (sorry for mybad English ^^)
Please share your work and ROMs with us ?
What's the difference with gsi?
Everything works so brilliantly except the distance sensor (or Proximately sensor, I am not sure.) which I consider a server issue...do you have any fix patch? I really like your work, I've tried a lot of GSI ROM before, but this could be most smoothly one. Thanks for your effort.
I have transmitted the ROM to CoolApk which is a Chinese android forum. Many people will like it~if you don't allow that I can delete the post.

so you are cool friends??
Thanks for this rom, started testing immediately.
I'm going to edit this post with the issues I run into, so let's start the list.
Whats working fine:
. Installation ran fine with the given instructions
. Setup went well
. Bluetooth hands free is finally working with android pie *happy*
. Double tap to wake (dt2w) is working flawlessly
Here are the bugs and things I'm missing:
. Switching to dark theme immediately switches to pitch black so you can't see anything on the display anymore. Had to factory reset and set everything up again. This also happens when you set the theme to automatic mode and set a black wallpaper so dark mode is a no-no at the moment
. No accent colour available.
. NFC quick settings tile is missing. NFC works for me, android beam works fast and stable
. Proximity sensor not working
. When connected the phone via BT it shows no signal but everything is working
More to come but I hope this list won't get much longer but only shorter!
Thanks for your efforts and the nice pie rom. I'm glad there are devs around to give this device the love it needs!
I really wanna test this ROM but I need some help...
How and where should I remove the folders in order to get data working?
Also, does this ROM have some kind of gestures navigation(not that from home and back "gesture" from pie)? Once I've used on MIUI, I can't go back to normal buttons navigation anymore.
