Capacitive button backlight not working. - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
I recently picked up a U11 as a replacement for my old, ailing Galaxy S5. I've noticed that the backlight for the capacitive buttons NEVER comes on. I've OTA updated to Oreo, I've changed the settings for the buttons to "Always On" and I've even gone ahead and did a factory reset on it. It's stock everything (for now!) and no root.
If it comes down to it, I can just do without... but I'd really rather having it working the way it's supposed to...

So... quick update.
Apparently, my notification light wasn't working either. I actually didn't even know if it had one until I looked it up.
That aside, I finally received my screen protector and case. I turned the phone off to apply the glass protector, turned the phone back on... and suddenly have my notification light and the 'Recent' button backlight working. The 'Back' button is still off. So... loose connection? Now I'm wondering if I give the phone another 'massage' (like when I was working with the protector and getting out bubbles) if the back button will come on, or it will just stop working again...

Screen Problem

This just happened like 45min-1hr ago. I was getting everything cleaned up before i got off of work and i was texting someone and my phone froze, so i soft resetted. it turned back on then it froze again so i once again soft resetted then i put it back in my pocket. i heard the sound the phone plays whenever it turns on and was like okay it's back on everything will be fine. i took it out and the screen is black. i thought it was on sleep mode or w/e but it wasnt. i took out my battery and put it back in and turned it on but the screen is once again black. anyone know how to fix it? i think my screen is broken
i have a touch pro also.
Possibly not the answer you want but have you tried hard-resetting the device? OK it wiped everything but at least you might get a working device from it. Had to do it once on my Trinity, it locked up on receiveing an SMS and a soft reset wouldn't complete, hard reset cured it.
just a regular hard reset? vol down center button. my cousin came over and said it mighta been my backlight? just tried turning it on again and it's real dim but i can barely see the screen.
I was thinking a regular hard reset, but as you have some display, albeit very dull have you checked the backlight hasn't got itself turned all the way down?

how would i check if the backlight is all the way down?
Go into the backlight settings and see where the sliders are.
tricky i know when the screen is very dull, but it might be possible.
that's not probable. minimal backlight doesn't mean black screen.. unless it's a device i'm completely unfamiliar with... tho it is still unprobable.
as deedee suggested, i'd hard-reset
I'm having the same problem, did you find a fix?

Black screen of death

The other day, I hit the power button on my touch pro, and the screen didn't come on. I did a soft reset, and it started working again. Now today, the same thing is happening, but a soft reset isn't helping.
The screen's back light comes on, the LEDs on the buttons come on, and the phone seems to be working fine. I hear all the sounds, including the HTC sound while it is booting, and the new message sound, but the screen stays black. It still recognizes touches, it just doesn't show an image. I want to do a hard reset, and will if I can get it to come one one more time, but its been about a month since I backed up my contact list. Lesson learnt there. I'm afraid it might be a hardware problem since I don't see anything while its booting either.
Anyone know if this is a known hardware issue with the touch pro? The phone is less then 3 months old, and I've been real careful with it. I haven't dropped it from more then 2 feet, and even that was onto carpet. Its the Verizon version if that makes a difference, and I'm running one of the NFSFAN roms. Its not the newest one, but rather the one posted on October 19th. I doubt its the rom, though, as I've been using it for around 2 months with no issues.
EDIT: Ok, I went into the bootloader to see if it was hardware of software. I figured if it was hardware, the screen would be black, and if it was software, it would be the rainbow. Sure enough, the screen stayed black. Hit the reset button, and the screen actually came on! Go figure. Went to do a backup, and the screen literally crapped out on me while I was watching it. Definitely a hardware problem.
similar with Touch HD... kinda
I've been having a similar problem with my Touch HD. The problem is very intermittent though and is sometimes hard to reproduce. The screen and phone will be working fine then once in a while when I push the power button to lock the phone, I'll unlock it and the screen stays black. I know that the phone is still on and even unlocked because pushing the buttons at the bottom makes the phone vibrate. The only consistency in reproducing the problem happens after I do something major on the phone such as making a phone call, browsing the internet, sometimes charging the phone. Other than that, I can sit here and push the power button all day and it'll come on and off with no problems. When the screen does go black I've taken the battery out repeatedly as well as repeatedly rebooted the phone until it comes back on. I've tried doing hard and soft resets to no avail. I've tried deactivating "turn off backlight if device is not used for" and "turn off device if not used for" without any resolve. After this I've even left the screen on (disabled backlight off) to see if it flickers or shows any sign of being faulty and it seems to be fine. I'm currently on Dutty's HD WM 6.5 Leo R5 WWE rom, but this has happened with two other roms (NRG, LIA). Other info include:
OS: 5.2.23016
Manila: 2.519192828.0
Radio: 1.14.25.24
Protocol: 52.64.25.34H
I guess the only consistent software has been my radio. Please help! Any advice would be awesome. I've tried google search and xda search without much help. Thanks

[Q] Problem with backlight in jiayu g2 android keys

Hello every1,
First of all im sry to be starting a new thread about this, but I cant seem to find anything related to it in google or in here, at least with a quick search. My phone is generally treated well enough, and I always keep it in a protector, but tonight it fell off my hands, and I THINK than since then, the "android" settings and return capasitive keys, right under the screen, cannot switch off. This means that if I lock the phone, or even turn it off, the backlight of these buttons does NOT switch off. I have to remove the battery. If I insert it again, and switch the phone back on, they still wont shut down. I now that they CAN be switched off, because I resetted the phone to its factory settings, at least the internal memory, and when it rebooted, the backlight of the keys turned off and back on again.
I am not interested in shipping the phone back to china to make use of its warranty, and im not sure whether letting that backlight on permanently will damage the phone. The screens function and backlighting seems to be OK. What can I do to disable or restore them to good functionality? I never rooted the phone, and I have searched for some apps that can disable those buttons backlight but they require rooting. What would you have me do? I do not mind rooting the phone, or tweaking it in anyway, as long as it remains functional. Thank you for any help!
any1?

Screen is black

At work yesterday my phone was fine..I pulled it out of my pocket during a break and the screen wouldn't turn on..then I noticed the backlight was on and I can feel the screen vibrate when I hit where the home button should be but no picture. I am able to hear notifications and use my moto360 to make phone calls etc but no picture just a black screen and backlight is on.. Using my nexus 5 currently but wondering if anyone else has experienced this..T-Mobile said they would replace it under warranty.

Hello.
I have the exact same issue, I got a phone with a broken screen, it only had black backlight, then I changed the screen with a new one and still the same thing happens. Tried with two screens.
After replacing the screen I repaired the software via Sony PC companion, but it didn't work.
Does anyone know what the issue is here? Is it a dead motherboard or something else? Just so that I know to stop trying to fix it.
My unit isn't under warranty anymore because it had physical damage so replacing it via Sony is a no go.
The phone boots fine, I get audio reading of menu options for the initial setup, even the touch works, I can select options but I have no image, only the backlight.

Keep screen turned off

Hi
I have owned this phone for about 1 month now and haven't got round to testing all of its features yet. I recently tried the keep screen turned off setting but it doesn't seem to do anything. Perhaps it's broken or something. Proximity sensor seems okay and auto brightness works.
Any ideas?
Keep screen turned off is only to make sure that when your phone is in your pocket or bag and the home/lock button accidentally gets pressed the screen turns off straight away to conserve battery.

Yes that's right. But when I activate this setting my screen will still turn on and stay on when in my pocket, bag, any other dark place.
Has anyone else got this problem. Is there anyway of fixing it. Btw I have tried factory reset twice to no avail
Thanks
I have same problem and my friend with s6 have same. Its all about android 7 on Samsung.

I have the exact same problem, here's my quote from another thread:
I have a similar problem. The proximity sensor itself works flawlessly during calls and in the test menu, but even though I have the "don't wake up in pocket" enabled in the screen settings, it always wakes and turns the screen on (and starts to make accidental clicks) when in pocket and the home button is accidentally pressed by my leg/pocket. I made a factory reset which didn't help. I don't use Package Disabler Pro, so that shouldn't cause the issue. Any help on this?
