I am trying to automate video playing and I have two things I would like to have in MX Player:
- Be able to specify folders via Android intents and play all contents (like VLC for Android supports)
- Repeat the content by default (introduce a setting to repeat by default perhaps)
Thank you kindly in advance.

By Default, MX Player will play all the files in the same folder. If you are facing any issues, please provide us with more information so that we can assist you better.

I work with completely unattended and automated devices. The file names change periodically. They are downloaded via Google Drive. This is why I can not launch MX Player with a file name.
VLC allows me to target folders to launch with but currently does not remember the repeat option.
This is why I am hoping for MX Player to maybe implement "playing folders" and permanent repeat option (either via Android intent, or a permanent setting).

Thanks for the details.
Unfortunately, MX Player doesn't support playback of folders at the moment. However, we will share this with our development team for further review.

Could you also consider a permanent repeat option? That stays forever until the user decides to disable it again?

@rashadthegre check
Settings > List > Folders
And see if your download folder is in the list of folders to be searched by MX.

Hi,
MX Player can detect most files with default setting.
But there are still some devices not detecting all files unless adding folders manually.
It would be help for improving default setting if you send system log after refreshing video list.
Please make sure that log should be gather immediately after refreshing video list because it will be erased periodically.
Thanks

Some of your video folders contains a file named ".nomedia". It actually represents that there is no media content inside the folder. So, if you keep any videos inside that directory or any subdirectory, it will be ignored.
For example your download folder in internal memory & media folder on external memory has ".nomedia" files. That's why it's not getting listed.
Either you have to delete those files or alternatively you can force MX Player to scan the directories even if ".nomedia" file found (Goto Settings >> List & Disable "Recognise .nomedia". Then, Refresh the video list.
Sent from my SM-G900H
That fixed it! Now i kinda feel stupid but im able to use my favorite video player again. Thank you! And I love you kind stranger lol.

.vdat looks like just alias of .mp4
Anyway it will be added on next version for convenient use.
There was a time that MX player will auto load subtitle that is in the same folder as the movie file, and it is gone now. It does have a option for saving the subtitle file in a specific folder. However, I found this is really hard to do as there are so many exact step to do. Image how am I suppose to do it if I want to watch a movie in my TV system through my USB? In a TV system it is really hard to find the directory.
Therefore, I really wish that this functionality can be back! I suggest that there is an option for disable the embedded subtitle and set the external subtitle as priority.
Please tell me if there is any suggestion! Thank you!

Thanks for the feedback.
The settings was removed as a part of simplifying the options. We have understood the troubles involved in selecting an external sub. We will change the subtitle selection logic to prefer the external subtitle over the muxed one.

MX player has inbuilt version checking mechanism. So no need to worry about that.
At the moment our developers are busy in bringing more features on board. So, I can't give any ETA at the moment.
Please bring back the global disable subtitles option. Wife is not happy that she has to keep disabling a subtitle for each video she plays. I'd rather have more options then not enough options.

Hi,
You can just uncheck the subtitle from the subtitle panel to disable.
If it's not disabled, there can be two reasons.
In Some devices HW decoder renders subtitles automatically due to the poor mediaplayer implementation. It automatically displays the closed captions. Either you can disable closed captions from system settings or you can use HW+ or SW decoder.
It's hard coded to the video frame itself. There is no way to to get rid of it as it's a part of the video frame.
Hi,
I hope this is the correct place to post this if not please advise where it should go.
I'm trying to use MX Player Pro as the External Player for Emby on my Android device, MX Player Pro plays the files fine when online, but there is an option to download files for offline viewing. When I try playing these with MX Player I receive a "can't play this link", I've contacted Emby and they state it's because the App (MX Player Pro in this instance), doesn't support Android storage access framework, I explained that MX Player Pro works ok with offline files using the YATSE App, but Emby support suggest they are probably hacking the true file URL rather than using SAF.
I'm not a developer and hence do not fully understand the differences but would really like to use MX Player Pro as the offline player for Emby, please can you comment and confirm if there's anything that can be done to get this working?
Regards,
Bob

That's weird. MX Player supports more schemes than any others. We have tried Emby ourself. But, it seems that download function needs premium subscription.
Kindly collect a bug report from MX Player help menu after the error (make sure that you selected save to file) & share with us here. We will check it out.

Thanks for the quick response, I've got the report but unsure how to attach it but should I share it here, does as it may contain personal/sensitive data, is there a more secure method of getting it to you?

In the newer android versions third party apps can only collect the logs from their own apps. If you are still concerned about the privacy, Kindly send the bug report to [email protected] along with the information about the issue.

My device is on android 7.0 and since last two beta updates from playstore, MX disappeared from the player list when I try to play the network stream.
It still shows up when playing the video stored in the device, but not when the video is a network stream.
This issue happens with v.1.10.12 and 1.10.13 so I installed 1.10.9 and it works now.
Hopefully this issue will be fixed in the next version.
Same here. Android 7.1.1

There weren't any changes in this regard. If you meant that MX Player is not listed while opening video links on Chrome, it is an internal change on the Chrome. It uses it's own mediaplayer instead of asking you to select the activity (or app) to handle the link. If it is not supported, it directly starts downloading the file. Similarly, some other social apps (like Whatsapp, Telegram) has started using the same in the recent time. Since we do not have any controls on their app, we are also helpless on this

Hmm I don't think it's the change on the chrome. All the other players such as vlc, kodi and all the other player kind apps installed on my phone still show up, and even MX player v.1.10.9 working fine. Only MX player v.1.10.12 and 1.10.13 disappeared. ( i've just updated to 1.10.15 to see if there's any difference but unfortunately this version doesn't show up on the list either.)
And I was not trying to open the stream link on chrome. It was a kind of cloud app(no recent update) and have been using it with no issues until v.1.10.12.

That's strange.
Kindly make sure that "Play media links" in the settings > general is enabled in MX Player.
If it is already enabled, Can you pls share more information with us like the name of the cloud app, version, device details, etc? We will try to reproduce it in our end and get it fixed for you.

MX Player fails to recognize intent from other apps
Hi, I am an Android developer and I have been using MX player as a video player for my app for 3 years now. My app has HLS links that I pass to MX Player via intent. But since the last two updates, MX player has stopped recognizing that intent, and ActivityNotFoundException is thrown in my app. I have around 10 million app users and most of them rely on MX player to play HLS links from my app. Please look into this matter at the earliest. Hoping to hear from you soon. Here is the code I have used in my app to launch MX player:
Code:
Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW);
intent.setPackage(getMXPlayerPackage(context)); //here i check which package mx player is installed (paid or free) and then return the corresponding package
intent.setDataAndType(Uri.parse(uri), "video/*");
startActivity(intent);

just updated to v.1.10.17 from Playstore and this issue is resolved. Thanks!
Hello.
I had discovered a new issue in MX Player Pro versions 1.10.24-25:
now if an user clicks on an audio file with the popular .m4a file extension then MX Player Pro (v1.10.24 or 25) does not appear among a list of players, which supports this type of file.
Also .m4a file extension has disappear from the list of supported files in the settings menu of MX Player Pro.
So, now it becomes trouble to play .m4a files by easy way just by clicking on they.
Please, fix this new issue.

Have you recently cleared the MX Player data or reinstalled the app?
MX Player's audio player feature is disabled by default. So, it will not be listed until or unless you enable it manually from the Settings > Audio > Audio Player. Once it is enabled, it will be automatically shown on the list of supported apps.

MX Player is more focused on the video playback. Currently, Music files are listed together with video files. Moreover, it may miss some common functions available on the music players. So, it is very uncommon to use it as a music player. That's why we have kept this optional.
