Ever since I got this phone I've noticed an irritating lag when it comes to using the wired Pixel Buds' Play/Pause button. Sometimes it works right away -- I can hit the center button and my music is paused, I can hit it again and it plays. However, nine times out of ten there's always a terrible delay. Sometimes I can press the button and my music won't resume for 5-10 seconds. If music is already playing, sometimes it won't pause for 5-10 seconds. It doesn't seem to be attributable to any specific app as it does it to Amazon Music, Spotify, Pandora, and PocketCasts.
It has been this way between two pairs of headphones on both Android Pie and Android Q beta. Factory reset hasn't helped any either.
Has anyone else experienced this input lag?

When I push the headset button once, it starts and stops the song. When I double tap it, it calls my last call... Is there anyway to get it to go to the next song, like on the iPhone...? Thanks.
I use JAYS Headset Control. It gets a little wonky on occasion but turning it off, then back on to easy mode fixes things.
Well, I was about to post a question about how to extend the headset commands in Google Music, since I was missing the option to rewind a track by pressing the button on the headset three times, like in PowerAmp... HOWEVER, I before I clicked on "submit" I googled it one last time and found this app, "Headset Button Controller" which allows you to customize the button on the headset quite a lot.
It is "configurable, allowing you to play music, change tracks, adjust volume, answer phone calls, start Voice Command and many other things, just by clicking the button on your headset". The only thing I don't like is the sound it makes when you press the button, but well..
I'll try it for a couple of days and if it still works well I'll consider buying it, it's simply too handy when I go for a run.
Maybe I'm not the only one with this problem, here's the google play link to the free trial version:

Stock Blaze that I use to listen to music on while walking my dog every day using headphones. But I've noticed an odd problem- sometimes when I plug in my headphones and hit the middle button on the cord (it's a headset with a mic and three buttons marked Play/Pause, FF and Rew) the music app starts up and plays whatever I was last listening to but the media volume has gone to zero. And sometimes while I'm listening the media volume will drop to zero for no reason, with no buttons being touched- the app is still playing but I have to turn up the volume.
I should add that the headset I'm using seems to work differently with the Blaze than it did with my previous phone, a T-Mobile G2. With the G2 the Play/Pause button worked as advertised, and the FF and Rew buttons on either side worked as next or previous track. On the Blaze the Play/Pause seems to work as advertised as well, but the FF and Rew buttons work as media volume up and down- sometimes- sometimes none of the buttons do anything until I close and reopen the music app.
Anyone else having similar problems or got any ideas? I use my phone to listen to music while waking the dog for about an hour every day and seem to have problems like this at least every other day- it's becoming a royal pain!
I'm having this same problem with my tablet, it please let me know when you find a fix

Since the 38R ota, my vmoda headset middle button (which worked perfectly pre update on 33R) now only works intermittently. Most of the time a single or double press will just increase the volume (media if music is playing, ringtone if not). This is using Google play music.
I tried the pro version of headset controller, and in debug mode it is not registering the button presses when the volume goes up (so it's not getting a chance to intercept them)
I have a nandroid of 33R which I may need to roll back to!
Anyone else seeing this bug? Any ideas of a fix or workaround before I roll back?
Thanks!
My volume control buttons in my Amazon headset work 100% with 38R. In fact, I was surprised to see it worked with OPO, where it didn't work on Nexus 4.
It is an odd bug with some headsets, it is defiantly software as it is registering the press but not activating the right command.

Same problem here, really anoying! I am using a samsung EO-HS3303WE and it worked perfectly with 33r. I have tried several music players but same problem.
Ithink this is too much of a coincidence, considering that Oneplus has just released their own headset...they seem to want us to buy their accesories! I hope this is not true and this bug will be solved soon
I have the same problem! I noticed that when i press volume down and the middle one at the same time, than it registers as the middle button
Any chance this could be solved without waiting to next OTA?
No one? We may have to wait 2 or 3 months...if it's ever fixed with next OTA...
i tried using the play store apps like: headset controller, Jays headset controller etc, and they did not have any effect on the button registering
there are two threads on the Cyanogenmod bug site (one from above ^^^):
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-133 - microphone not working
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-188 - middle button raises volume
so i would suggest you register and post there (top right corner, login button) and get some action going on it
i rolled back to 33R to get my headset working; the alternative is to buy the JBL E1+ headphones when they come out, but seems a bit lame!
Hello,
I'm using single button headphones from Samsung. When I'm listening to music on Play music when I press the button it should pause/play music, but when I press it turns up sound volume. Is there are any ways to make it work properly?
Update: I tried same headphones on other device and button does what it should do. It's some kind of phone related issue.
It's happen sometimes, You need to clean the hole when you put in your headphone.
