I got MA850 in-ear headset for my itouch recently, and tried to connect it my Milestone 2 in the hope of getting better playback. I've heard in other forum that Apple earphone with 3 buttons behaves like the stock one-button headset, but it's not the case with Milestone 2.
The middle button does not work at all. The plus/minus buttons seems to have the same effect, just like long-pressing stock earphone's controller - they activates the player and make it jump to the next track, and they can also end a call. The mic is working.
Try PowerAMP of the Market i've seen it has a "Headset Button Config " i dont have a headset with buttons so i never tested it.
Power Amp can configure headset buttons
Hi!
Im looking for a headset with working 3 buttons. I miss this... my old htc headset had that 3 button (next song, prev song and call button, or what does it named) but it isnt working on nexus 4. In-ear and flat cabel would be the best, and about 20-30-40 dollar. Im asked in many forums but noone know this kind of headset.
Not totally sure what you're looking for but I use the Plantronics Backbeat 903 in-ear Bluetooth stereo headset w/ my N4 and I can play, pause, control volume, next/previous song, mute, call, answer, and hangup, ALL from the external buttons on the headset

I use the LG HBS-730. You can find them online in the $40-50 range. Battery life is good, sound quality is great IMO, and you have volume rockers, skip track rockers, mute/call buttons, and a play/pause button.
You can also try Creative WP-350 Bluetooth Headset I'm using it for more than 2 years and it's still working like a charm
Just tested those two pairs of wired headphones that have three buttons on pilot
- Samsung Galaxy SIII original headphones B00C1ZPD6S http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-3-5mm-Stereo-Headset-Galaxy/dp/B00C1ZPD6S - not working third button - volume buttons working
- JBL Synchros Reflect A (Android/Universal, wired) http://www.jbl.com/earbuds/REFLECT-A.html - not working third button - volume buttons working
I've tried different soft for media headphone buttons - didn't help. Apparently the SZ5C is not compatible with this kind of headsets.
Those headphones work for Samsung Galaxy SIII, Sony Xperia E4.
I'm using Sennheiser MM 70s, and the button seems to work fine (tested with spotify). They have a volume slider rather than 3 buttons.

I have tested Samsung Galaxy S4 original earphones and I confirm your test, third button start/stop button works as volume up, volume buttons working.
I have tested also Apple EarPods and only the third button is ok, volume buttons not working.
Sennheiser MM 30G: only pause and up volume function as expected.
Sony seems to think the multiple clicking of a single button is the way to go. I'm amazed this hasn't been standardized better in the Android realm.
NOCS 500 for Android: volume works, center button doesn't work at all... no start/stop.
No app seems to help.
cheap Samsung "Galaxy" three button from eBay: volume works, start/stop button works as volume up
Glad I have a 14 day grace period. If I cannot get a three button remote to work on a Sony device, it's going back. It's a shame, I mostly like this device but this whole Android headphone situation is maddening to me as I listen to podcasts all day.
I'm using Marshall Monitor Headphones that have a single inline button. All this does is increase the volume. I've tried a bunch of apps to change it to Pause/Play with no luck. Seems either the z5 needs an update or Marshall really wants you to turn it up to 11.
I too have been on this quest, with a little success. Here's what I have tried so far:
Bundled headset (MH4 10c). Obviously, everything works but there's no volume control and the buds themselves are not great.
iPhone headset. Button works, mic works, volume control doesn't.
Marshall Major over-ear headphones. Button works, mic works, volume control doesn't. (these are advertised as iPhone compatible, so no surprises really).
Samsung headset from GS5 (EO-EG900BW). Volume control works, mic works. Button acts as Volume up.
Nokia music headset (WH-701) from an old Symbian phone. Z5C told me off for even trying (I get a popup "Headset not supported. Use another headset or visit the Sony Mobile support site for more information.").
This guy from eBay, along with my Shure IEM's. Mic works, volume works, button works. Hallelujah! But: the phone doesn't recognise that the headset is plugged in until I press a button on the remote! So I have to plug it in, raise the volume a step, then I can use it. Annoying, but the best solution I've found so far (it's recognised no problem on an iPhone, so maybe it's something to do with their attempt to be compatible with Android & iPhone?)

That's a pity, I was eyeing them. My Marshall Major button works as a play/pause/answer, it's weird your Monitors acts different
Bluetooth Philips SHB 5800WT.
Button works, multiple clicks also, volume buttons also work.
Did anyone test the Xiaomi Pistons (first Gen)?
I previously mentioned the Sennheiser MM30G 's that I tried didn't work but I think there was a problem with them as I tried another pair (had bought three pair on sale) and they work fine with the Z5. I ended up keeping one of my Z5C's and I'm glad that I did as the camera rocks and the stabilised video it shoots is great... much better than the camera on the OnePlus X I picked up instead.
Xiaomi Piston III work just fine.
Sony MH1C works good - all four buttons are working (play/pause, vol+, vol-, app button)
urBeats Monster (from HTC Sensation) - working fine (Volume Up/Down, Play/Pause, Next/Prev (2x- 3x-push play/pause button)
I used the Bose basic phone in-ear buds with the buttons with my Z3c and they worked just fine. Will report back once I get my Z5c... hopefully today.
I'm using Marshall Major II headphones with my Sony Xperia5 and same problem as someone mentioned above. Remote button only levels up the volume..
Have a look at http://degausslabs.com/. The make earphones with 3 button controls that work on Android. Used to have one of their older models. Works well. Sound was ok.
Basically I'd only need a cable. 3.5mm aux-cable with mic/remote. I love my Marshall Majors let's see, I ordered Sony headphone-adapter and couple of cables @eBay. I will inform if if I got em work.

Sony STH30 works great. give them a go.
Tested SENNHEISER CX 200G, 3 button controls are ok
Hi,
I have a phone with Android 6.0. And when I listen to music I use the button on the earphone microphone to Play/Pause music by clicking once. And skip the track forward by clicking twice. Sometimes when trying to skip the track the sound goes up, but I don't know why?
Also, what other functions can I do with the earphone microphone speaker button (apart from accepting and rejecting calls)?
Thanks
I bought a Bluetooth controller https://www.amazon.ca/images/I/51rPNr9NjcL._AC_SL1000_.jpg to use on my bicycle so I don't need to unlock the phone and mess with the screen to skip songs, and it works fine when using a regular headset in the 3.5mm port. But when I use my Dragonfly USB DAC all that works is volume up/down and the play/pause button. The previous track button acts like volume up, and the next track buttons acts like volume down.
It works fine on my Galaxy S8. And this is not an issue with a certain app because I tested it on many music apps. It seems to be the phone itself.
Can anyone think of why it would be doing this, or any way to remedy the issue? Or is this just an unfixable bug?

Your is a rare specific use which i don't think xiaomi did ever test their phone in this condition, the only way to get it fixed is trying to report using their channels (feedback app, mi community etc..), or you can try switching to custom roms to see if it works fine there
