I downloaded everything in the cwm final
I used file manager to overwrite the old files and when I boot into recovery I still get the old recovery and not cwm
There is also nowhere for me to instal from update.zip
I have done this on my evo and it was easy but I'm clearly missing something with my galaxy 4g would someone be so kind as to give step by step instructions?

and yes you must reinstall packages every time you want to re-enter CWM so you must leave the update.zip on you SD card

can't flash CWM recovery
everytime i boot into recovery, i selected reinstall packages, then i get error : signature verification failed!
am I missing something? I have EVO too, it wasn't that difficult to install CWM.
anybody can help me by pointing to things I might have missed?

recovery.bin probably isn't being overwritten correctly. At first I downloaded the file with Dolphin Browser and had the same problems. Try downloading the file with firefox and then try pushing it to /system/bin again.
probably recovery file is not being copied in system/bin folder. i can see it has only read permission for group and write permission. i tried rom manager permission fix, that didn't change permission of recovery. i tried changing from terminal using chmod +w & chmod 755. but that didn't help change the permission on recovery file.

Rom Manager isn't working for the Galaxy S 4G yet.
What application are you using to copy recovery to /system/bin?
typically i use ES explorer but i tried File Expert too.
one typo on my prev post: i don't have write permission on recovery, only got read permission.

ES won't work. File Expert should work. Just make sure you have R/W permissions. Don't do anything with Rom Manager. That won't help.
yea it should work as they say but it does not. I tried changing permission using File expert,it click OK and then i check file permission on recovery right away, the write permission is not checked. even chmod 755 failed to change the write permission!

I don't think you have any problems with R/W. I just don't think the recovery file was overwritten. Look in /system/bin in File Expert. Do you see recovery and recovery.bin? Or just recovery?
/system/bin/recovery file exists and i have been trying to change its permission.

You don't need to change the permission of recovery. Copy the recovery file and navigate to /system/bin in file expert. When you get there you want to hit menu then more then mount. It will give you two options. Pick mount as read write. Then paste the recovery file.

i would like flash CWM on my TF101G so i can flash a rom. I have it rootet with ViperMod but what´s the next? I have testet nvflash but it´s fail. My serialnumber begins with BA0. What can i do?
With my Galaxy S2 that´s all so easy and with the Transformer so difficult

try re downloading it or make sure that you are rooted
Titanium Backup says i have root. Loaded again but same error. I have Android 3.0.1 on the Tablet could be this the reason?

Yeah, update to the latest firmware. It should work after that.
Try OTA Root Keeper (it might save your root so you don't have to root again).
IF not just update, run ViperMod again and install RecoveryInstaller
I can not flash the update. I put the Update on the SD, the system dedects also the update but after the restart the update breaks and the system restart again.

Did you extract the file you download to get to the zip file inside? You also have to rename that extracted file. I cant recall exactly what it need to be rename to but I'll check soon as i get near a PC

"EP101_SDUPDATE.zip" i think this is what you have to rename the file
edit: Tips from Baseballfanz For those not able to get it working, a few things to check.
1-Make sure you actually extract the WW_epad-user-8.6.x.x.zip within the zip. Inside the file you download is an Asus folder, inside that is an Update folder, inside that is the WW_epad-user-8.6.x.x.zip file you'll be working with.
2-When renaming, if your PC is set to "hide known extension", you'll not see the .zip so if you type in .zip you'll get filename.zip.zip The file manager on the TF should show you the extension
3-Make sure it's on the root of the sd card and not within any folder.
4-Check spelling of files WW_epad-user-8.6.x.x.zip EP101_SDUPATED.zip
5-Micro sd card is in FAT32 format. Try a different card or format again (after saving your stuffs)
6-File manager on the TF sdcard is internal and Removable/MicroSD is the external sd card.
THESE ARE TIPS FROM BASEBALLFANZ POST SOMEWHERE ELSE ONLY I X'ED OUT THE FIRMWARE NUMBER TO DENOTE THE NEWEST FIRMWARE.... HOPE YOU DNT MIND

I am having trouble finding my nandroid backup file made with TWRP. I can't even find the TWRP directory! This file system is so confusing! I have tried ES File Explorer, Root Browser, and tried searching the file system using my laptop. I have even searched for "2014-12-13" and nothing is found. Can anyone please help? Nexus 5 on Android 5.0 w/ TWRP v2.8.1.0
I had probaby the same problem as you are facing. N5 with TWRP 2.8.1.0. After making nandroid I could not get the backup to show up within the TWRP folder (which is visible and accessible with ES File Explorer).
This issue was when I was using this specific Lollipop 5.0 rom (don't know if it is rom related or not) :

Then I went looking for another Lollipop rom, specifically a 5.0.1 version and found this one :

It isn't empty. You're just using a file explorer that isn't very good at reading things that need root permissions

I'm using ES File Explorer. But SuperSU doesn't show it having root access. How do I give it root access? It was my impression that ES was THE way to go for file explorer apps...is there a better one? Obviously opinion, but I'm open to suggestion...
Edit: Okay, using Root Browser I found the TWRP directory and the backup. However when connected to PC, windows explorer can't see it. How do I move the backup to my PC? This is ridiculously complicated to backup to PC...

That's a known issue on Lollipop. It happens when 2 apps require the same permission.
Have you got ROM toolbox installed? That app is known to conflict with jack pal
If not, you'll need to run a Logcat whilst installing to find out which app is conflicting

Okay, so I uninstalled ROM Toolbox and the terminal I had. Good call :good:
So now the question is, what did that command do? Hahaha...
/data/media/0 is supposed to be the mount point for /sdcard. Sometimes when flashing lollipop, this association breaks, making your /sdcard contents (and sometimes just some of it) disappear. The command restores that

Okay but how does that benefit me? And how can I view my backup locations in windows explorer?
I have a OnePlus One CM11 rooted.
I read a post here:

And therefore I "played" a little bit with my phone with those things:
1) \System\priv-app\ContactsProvider.apk
2)ContactsStorage from Setting ->Apps->All->ContactsStorage
Somehow I ended up with the situation that:
1)ContacsStorage does not appear at the apps list.
2)The directory \data\data\com.android.provider.contacts have disappeared.
I want to reinstall\flash the ContactsStorage app.
I know that reinstalling the rom will fix it, but I'm trying to avoid it.
Do you know of any other way I can do it?
Extract it from your ROM zip. Copy back to it's original location with a file manager (Root Explorer), set permissions and reboot.

I don't have my rom zip (This is the rom that came installed).
But returning the original backup apk and rebooting did not do the job

Then you are doing spmething wrong. What do you use to move? Is system set to R/W? permissions set? Same folder?

The problem that the apk is vanishing after reboot is not a permission issue. Try a better file manager (in my case Root Explorer never fails). Mount system as R/W and do the rest.

The apk is NOT vanishing, it stays there.
The app of ContactsStorage is vanished from the apps list permanently.
As well as the folder in \data\data of com.android.providers.Contacts.
The option to sync google contacts is gone as well.

I don't know what the odex file is.
I did not back the odex file so I do not know if it's the original, but there is a ContactsProvider.odex in there.
Converted my 7pro to international from tmobile some time ago. Bootlader and sim unlocked, rooted, have custom kernel, and working on 9.5.7.. I want upgrade to 9.5.8, downloaded full zip multiple times for GM21AA, md5 checked, everything works.. Moved downloaded ZIP file to root folder (internal memory), but i can't see the update under settings > system > system updates > settings > local upgrade..
restarted, cleared cache.. etc.. tried all possible ways. Even oxygen updater app sees that there is an update zip in place. But what the hell happening in local upgrade section, am i missing a step here?

Did you put the full zip file on the root of your internal storage? Meaning it has to be on /sdcard/ not /sdcard/downloads
Yes i did, its definitely on internal storage (root)
Also I notice something similar when I download a full zip and it was that after .zip it also had .jar so it looked like this( ? Name.zip.jar ) so I rename it and deleted jar and I was able to see under local update

It definitely has no extension other than zip

My best guess is to check the md5 hash of that zip and see if it matches the one on the OP website. If it doesn't match, you have a bad download. Also, can you open the zip with a file manager or does it TELL you it's corrupt? In any case, I'd say redownload the zip.

Thats the interesting part. Md5 is matching, and yes i can see the contents of zip file when i tap it. I downloaded 5 times already

Yeah that IS weird, never seen that before.... So when all else fails, I'd use fastboot to boot TWRP and then install the zip that way. Is your bootloader unlocked? Use the command "fastboot boot [file name].img" then flash it there, if you're gonna install the TWRP zip to have it permanently, remember to install Magisk as well, it's needed for the phone to boot in that case.
Did you ever find a solution to this? I am having the same issue. .zip file is downloaded, not corrupt and in the root folder, but "system update / local upgrade" doesn't see it.
Some file explorers doesn't show the extension. It may be the case that your file is named "name.zip.jar", but when your looking at it, .jar is dropped, showing only "name.zip". This makes you believe .zip is the extension, while it's not, rather just part of the filename.
