How do I clear the app cache with the One UI? - Samsung Galaxy J4+ Questions & Answers

The phone is very slow when opening apps because of the latest update.
I know how to clear an app's cache individually but I want to clear the cache for all the apps but I can't find it on Settings.
It's already updated to One UI and Android Pie.
The phone is not rooted and it doesn't have custom recovery.
Is there a way to clear app cache without using TWRP?

[Q] Eagles Blood CM9 to AOSP question

I am running Eagles Blood CM9. If I switch over to EGB AOSP will the "Backup and Reset" --> "Backup my data" and "Automatic Restore" features that are included in CM9 be available in AOSP?
I guess I am wondering if I have to reinstall apps manually or not?
Thanks,
-John
When switching ROMs like that you should: ** In CWM
(You must do this so no bugs are created.)
1. Wipe data
2. Wipe cache and dalvik cache
3. Install rom
4. Install latest GApps(4/29/12)
This will wipe all your apps, which you will have to reinstall by going to the Play Store>Menu>My apps>swipe over, and there it will have all your apps. You'll have to do that if the play store doesn't automatically start downloading them. But, if you use titanium backup, you can try that, but I've read that it causes problems.
Lastly, you can dirty flash(don't wipe data, only cache and dalvik cache), but this will most likely cause bugs that aren't because of the rom. So, from coming from the Eaglsblood ICS to their AOSP ics build, do the first instructions to be safe.

I have had no problems with Titanium Backup. The only thing is that you must make sure to backup apps right before you flash.

[Q] Editing App Startup list after dirty flash / clearing cache???

I was wondering if someone could tell me if there is a way to run a script or edit a file after doing a dirty rom flash and/or clearing cache while in Recovery so that I can control which apps start after first reboot? I am aware of apps that will allow you to stop apps from starting on subsequent reboots but those configs also get wiped when you dirty flash and/or clear cache.

Sounds like you're rooted, remove the app from /system/apps and then install it as a user app and see if it helps. No crashes here.
Try flashing just the system file in fast boot...? Might fix it. Won't clear data....just your system type settings will be reset.

Google dialer phone number lookup

Good day,
I currently have the Google dialer app version 19 running on my OP6 Pie AOSP ROM. This built-in dialer does not have the phone number lookup option but I do have another Dialer.apk which does have the option. When I install the second APK, it installs fine but crashes when I open the phone number lookup.
Is there a way to fix the crash? Is another APK to install or some other mod?
Thanks for your time and help.

It requires root, but, you can replace the stock dialer in your system partition with the other dialer, then boot into recovery and wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache(DO NOT FACTORY RESET), then reboot the device and see if the dialer works.
Anytime(and I mean ANY time) you add, remove or modify system apps or system files, you have to boot into recovery then wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache then reboot. Failure to do so will cause issues because the device can't use cached data from before you made your changes with the new setup, that cached data from before must be removed so that the system can rebuild the cache the way the setup needs it.
If it doesn't work after doing this, then the new dialer probably won't work with your device.

Thanks for your answer but unfortunately it did not work. No new dialer for me.

Ok, you might have to port the new dialer to work on your device. I don't know what you would need to modify to make it work. You will have to research that for yourself. It would require copying the old dialer then using the APKtool or APKeditor on PC to decompile each apk and between the two of them, you would take the required files from one and put them in the other then recompile the apk then install the modified dialer apk that you created.

Clearing the system cache partition

Hi all, something I've been doing for many years after any sort of system update, is I clear the system cache partition - just for tidyness, maybe some placebo effect that it helps battery life.
Anyway, it's not where I would expect it to be, any know how to do it?
Non-root, locked bootloader Xperia 5ii.
It should be on the boot menu but on some phones it's oddly found in settings I believe.
Google it.

I did Google it but it keeps bringing me to older Sony devices. I'm used to it being in recovery boot (Vol - + Power) but I can only see option for a full wipe/system restore.

Yeah I see what you're saying. Call Sony or your carrier.
Hopefully someone knows what going on with this.
Try sd maid pro, It can clean apps cache. Or Twrp wipe.

SD Maid can't touch the system cache and normally has a default value it ignores when cleaning app caches. Best to manually clean suspect ones.
When clearing apk data doing it in Settings can leave what I presume to be nulls behind.
I had an a Android system apk that in Settings I couldn't completely clear it but this app could.

It saved me from a factory reset. Another reason this app is a useful, versatile and powerful tool that I value.
