While i am no beginner when it comes to modding phones, having done so with Samsungs Sonys and my last HTC 10. But this is my first Oneplus and my first time dipping toes in the world of A/B partitions as well. My device is a 1910 GM21AA. While i have gone through the guides regarding bootloader unlocks and magisk rooting, I have failed to grasp some more basic aspects. For one thing, i seem to have the Chinese variant but mine isnt Hydrogen OS, i am currently sitting on 9.5.3 OOS. I was wondering how i could perhaps shift to the Global firmware. Am i to take the latest 9.5.11 OTA from https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...7-pro-global-repo-oxygen-os-t3930585#poststop and simply put it in the download folder and do a local update from the system update on the phone? Thanks in advance
Use the oygen os updater from the play store download full rom which is around 2gb and do local upgrade.
FYI GM21AA is Indian Version

the packages shown in the app seem to be the same zips in the thread i linked...so all i do is take the GM21AA from the thread and just do a local update? I read that 1910 is the Chinese variant for my device but it has this GM21AA build which just made things so confusing. Thank you.
I would now like to know of things i can do to bring my OP7Pro to life in case something ever goes wrong with Local storage updates or just Fcked up in general

That should do.. it should give you an error if the update is incompatible. Incase you mess up you can always fastboot and update using this thread https://www.google.co.in/amp/s/foru...ock-fastboot-roms-oneplus-7-pro-t3931424/amp/

I could be wrong, but I think that's the norm with everyone since updating. Thinkni read it in one of the XDA forums around here somewhere.
How do i roll back to full stock if i am on custom rom? This is unfortunately also my first time dealing with A/B partitions.
Aside from these, i have been going around the forums and had a few more questions that i hope someone could help me with....
1. Whenever i come across a rom not based on OOS, i keep coming across never wiping system or vendor, why is that?
2. I come across flashing OOS a lot, how do i flash OOS when i am in a custom rom not based on OOS?

look in the volte thread
there is an apk to installnand enables it again with limited functionality
or use MSM tool to go back to 953 and tibu backup and restore on 9511
oneplus removed it for some reason...
maybe because they found out we're forcing VOLTE?

Do i use MSM tool or fastboot method whenever i need to get back to complete stock without any root or twrp? If so then i think MSM tool or fastboot roms would be a great way to go. 1 question, does using msm or fastboot return the phone to stock while keeping the bootloader unlocked? Also, is it ok to downgrade to a lower version of OOS with MSM or fastboot roms? i think 9.5.11 for me introduced some random background battery drain and this weird mobile data bug where switching to it doesnt enable the connection until much much later
I personally use fastboot. All you need to do is plug the phone in>Boot to fastboot (hold vol up and down and power all at once)>On the computer launch flashall.bat (dont run it as administrator, just launch it).

Do you use it to downgrade or whenever you need to go back to full stock after modding? does it keep the bootloader unlocked or does it relock it? Thanks. Sorry for the noob questions. This is my first Oneplus. I have kept my device stock until i get a good idea of how to deal with things going south.
I need a little guidance regarding this thread

Are these rom packages for MSMtool or fastboot packages?

Hi there,
I'm kind of new and I'm not really a huge phone person but I'm giving this a shot! I just got my OnePlus 6, and the guy I bought it from gave me an "A6000" one. It does not have Google or anything and in the thingy it says it's called Hydrogen OS. I'm extremely confused.
I read it's supposed to have Oxygen OS. Can someone walk me through what I am supposed to do, step by step (simple please!) to get from this confusing Hydrogen OS to Oxygen OS? I wasn't expecting this at all...

A6000 is supposed to have Hydrogen OS on it, as it is meant for the Asian market. Go get your money back, and punt the guy who sold you that square between the legs.
Now there is a way to put OxygenOS on it, follow guides for unlocking the bootloader, installing TWRP, and then flash OxygenOS in TWRP (and then punt the guy who sold you this phone between the legs again for selling you a phone that you had to go through all this with)

Better idea. I can't believe I forgot about fastboot roms (sorry about that). Unlock the bootloader, and use the fastboot roms for OxygenOS. That will be easier and yes it will update through OTA afterwards

Hello guys, i bought my oneplus 7 pro from china and it comes with hydrogen os and i am trying to get rid of it.
I already tried to download the official package from OnePlus website and i tried to flash it using the recovery but it gives a pop up saying that i can't downgrade.
could anyone suggest me a good way to switch to oxygen os ??
Thanks in advance!!
Probably it's because they listed a lower version there.

If you're on a newer version of hydrogen, you need to unlock bootloader to go to a lower version. Dont forget. But might be better to wait for the next update of OSS and then flash internally. To be safe. Im rather new with oneplus too

I have a follow up question. I might be wrong at any step so please correct me if I am.
From what I remember, during first boot of android people are supposed to log into their google account. So if I end up flashing OOS by local update option, will they ask me to log into my google account? I'm still in China and I don't know if I can actually skip that step and keep using my phone (log into google accounts later on after I connect to my VPN).
I don't want to risk changing OS and not being able to use my phone until I leave China.

It never supports the T-Mobile phones. The built in update system is different in T-Mobile firmware and won't allow for the local upgrade to use it. You can still change your model in the Oxygen Updater settings to the EU version (the standard OnePlus 8T non-EU doesn't have a full update file available yet). But even if you download the EU firmware file, you can't just install it straight from the phone. However, there is a working conversion method using Fastboot though, at this link:

Just had another idea. I figure this was on one of the threads but I forgot to bookmark it. Here's my idea:
I have msm'ed back to tmobile stock.
I have extracted the euro build payload using python (It took a minute to figure it out)
Burning question: Is there way to flash to euro build on my t-mobile branded phone?
I have everything, phone-wise, already backed up on flash drives and hard drive.
Please tell me what you think and share this amongst the other devs., please.:good:

Yes the instructions are in the conversion thread. It requires bootloader to be unlocked which requires sim to be unlocked. Results are varied a bit but its a matter of actually following the instructions. It worked flawlessly for me and i even made the script for linux.

Cyberpunk 2077 phone arrived today. It appears the exporter had flashed a OxygenOS (Global/KB05AA) ROM on the phone, without the goodies in-tact (boot animation/live wallpapers/etc.). Performing an OTA update through the settings menu results in the phone being stuck at boot animation. On reboot, the boot animation changes from the stock Oneplus animation, to the cyberpunk one (which is stuck).
I have resolved this by performing a factory reset through recovery mode, which puts me back on the previous OOS version. However, it does not appear to be possible to update in the phone's current state. I was curious if others had experienced this, and what the best approach would be to either restore the original Cyberpunk H2OS, or continue using stock OxygenOS. OTA updates are preferable. Happy to share any of the goodies.
Solution:
Restored the phone back to its original state, with HydrogenOS and Cyberpunk assets - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=84016539&postcount=12
Still trying to get Google Apps/Services.
Cyberpunk version
Hello.
I experienced bootloop when trying to update with 11.0.4.5KB05AA. Meaning, could not go through to update unless switching back to Hydrogen stock or another build Oxygen os based on EU or India.
No local upgrade inside the current when looking at the system update. No such option. Also, when on stock recovery, could not reach internal storage as to flash other compatible rom.
Technically, tried to resolve but not feel confident to pursue despite thinking of need to unlock the bootloader and etc...
What a hassle!

I spoke with a Oneplus support member earlier, but this is supposedly a confirmed issue and they will be pushing an update. Unsure if they misunderstood, or it's standard for them to support non-supported devices running Oxygen. In the mean time I have restored/left the phone on the original KB05AA that it came with.

I've done that, both before and after MSM Download, as well as after OTA update. Still results in the Cyberpunk boot loop. Supposedly the MSM tool has a boot.img, which leaves the question why the Cyberpunk animation is still there.
I managed to get to 11.0.4.5 by using the MSM download tool here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-8t/how-to/op8t-unbrick-tool-to-restore-device-to-t4180837
OTA update to 11.0.5.6 still results in a boot loop, with the original cyberpunk animation. I'll be trying to use the HydrogenOS MSM Download, to see if that has different results.

Reason being is that the factory images are different and you don't want to risk hard-bricking your phone. Believe me, I've tried. I did it once and MSM failed.

No. This is the software for the Chinese phones (KB2000). You will not get the Cyberpunk files by doing that, either.
Msm tool
That's the point! How to get rid off totally and permanently cyberpunk animation which till now I have no idea any resources to refer to and how to resolve.
Mine, still stuck at 11.0.4.5 version. Got an incremental update of 11.0.5.6 but unfortunately, the cyberpunk animation is still there, haunting me! Got to reset everything to go back which is not so cool at all!
OniAraAra said:
I've done that, both before and after MSM Download, as well as after OTA update. Still results in the Cyberpunk boot loop. Supposedly the MSM tool has a boot.img, which leaves the question why the Cyberpunk animation is still there.

I ended up changing over to HydrogenOS. Will be rooting it and flashing Google Apps.
From my understanding, there is confliction with the OTA updates for OxygenOS - since this is a different phone.

There's no custom recovery available yet, so as far as I know it isn't possible to flash gapps right now.
Okay... I've been searching all over the net for this problem and I keep getting posts that skirt the issue. At least, that's what it seems. So I will begin and you can decide... and thanks for whatever info you can throw my way.
Brand new OnePlus 8T. I want to root it. Duh. So, Got the Tiny ADB and Fastboot package and all the rest, but the issue is with unlocking the bootloader. Other problems may appear later, but this is the issue now.
So, connect phone to PC (Windows 8.1) and the only way that ABD recognizes my phone is when the USB prefs are set to 'No Data Transfer". Yes, I have installed the proper drivers from the phone. So, when the 'No Data Transfer' is selected, ADB recognizes the phone and will issue the command, ABD Reboot Bootloader and the phone reboots to the bootloader. Nice! Unfortunately, it appears that once the phone has booted to the bootloader, it has changed the USB Prefs and now ADB and fastboot do not see the phone. Obviously this sucks. And here is the problem. As far as I know, I have ticked off on all the proper settings. USB Debugging, etc. No joy!
I found a post elsewhere that showed how to set the default USB mode and that didn't work either. My experience has been that ADB used to see the phone under the 'File Transfer' and PTP options before, but it doesn't now. I can't explain this.
So, pretty frustrated. This shouldn't be so bloody difficult. It's only a couple of commands and I have done this with other phones in the past so it's not like I have no previous experience. But I have already wasted way too much time here this go around. Anyone have an answer? I'll be your best friend!!
Thanks all..

Thanks man... ya, I did try that to no avail.. but.. the fact that the original command works.. well. Don't think that is the problem, but thank you for taking the time to consider my problem. Cheers!

I had to install drivers for both ADB and bootloader mode. I documented what I did here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...t-fastbootd-driver-guide-for-windows.4282241/

Hey Thanks, Bill. I"ll give this a whirl and see how it goes. I'll report back after. Cheers!
Ok, that appears to have solved the driver problem. I was able to finally unlock the bootloader and flash twrp. Now it is stuck in a boot loop.. fun fun!
I had been following this guide
How to Install Official TWRP Recovery on OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8T and Root it

to root my 8T, but it appears that this fellow was missing some info? I take it ya can't just flash twrp to recovery like usual. The picture is slowly coming together.. much more complex than the last few times I have rooted phones.
So I assume that flashing twrp writes over the stock recovery.. and that leads to this crashdump mode popping up. To fix this, I will need the stock recovery.img and flash that back into place? Feel free to chime in and thanks in advance!

Flashing TWRP doesn't cause CrashDumps. They happen when you try to boot the system and something's not right.
You could try changing slots and then rebooting. That sometimes works (depending on what else you've done). You can do this in either TWRP or bootloader.
PS: if you use the reply button, then I'll be advised that you've posted a reply. Otherwise you'll have to wait until the next time I look to see if there's new posts in a thread.

Alrighty! Changing the slots did bring the phone back and it is now booting properly. But if I try to boot into recovery, it fails and goes to crashdump. Any ideas? Bad twrp image??

Hi guys, to root the 8T it's by magisk_patched.img via magisk manager, not twrp (it's old school),
Root FR (sorry a'm frenche, and better explain to me.)
since Android 11 twrp is less good ...

What I like about TWRP is that I can do things without needing a PC. So rooting, back up and restore, install new ROMs, ...
And now, with version 3.6.0, TWRP works well on Android 11

Yes, that works,
but don't be surprised to have instabilities in the ROM!
I already had some,
by magisk patch it's more cleaner,
But you are a big boy.
Good luck,

that's not the problem to use it for years,
myself with android 10, I was using it, I was already using magisk in 2015, on my Sony z5c (with lineage 7.0.2/ base is the ROM Orange Telecom owner... )
but since Android 11, the data decryption is no longer the same.
just the 30 second twrp boot, I don't really like it, so restored a system with something like that ... lol
Magisk is the best Root solution!
I like this!
Since the magisk_patched has become root's solution, to A11.
an old dog!!
You like croquettes and the mash?
Thx,

If they could fix the interminable start up time for TWRP that would be brilliant. But I believe the problem is with a file system check rather than the actual decryption which is quite fast.
Sorry, croquettes and mash aren't in my menu. But empanadas - absolutely!
Sorry, I had to leave this for a day or so, but I am back. BillGoss, looking at the guide I posted a link to earlier, would you say that guide is acceptable or are there issues with it? Theoretically that is? And does it depend on what build you are using?
Or if you know of a better process and files, please feel free to point me at it.
Many thanks

Actually a trick you can use is in twrp if you have the magisk APK change the ext to zip and install in twrp it patches the boot img for you in right slot so you don't have to pull img from phone
