When watching the linked video on YouTube Vanced the brightness is not controlled by the app. I can still adjust the brightness via the pull down menu slider. However, when watching the same video on s10p the brightness of the content is controlled by the app and one cannot change it via the slider. Both devices have video enhancement turned off.
Any reason for this?

Vanced brightness control works fine for me. Control works both on the vanced swipe controls and in the notification panel, as intended.

It works "fine" for me as well. My question was on my other device when playing the same video on Vanced, the system OS screen brightness control cannot be controlled by my fingers using the slider.

That's unintended, the behavior on the OP7Pro is the correct one and has been the same on my last 3 phones

Thanks, so you understood what I meant about the Samsung device brightness slider not being adjustable whilst that video was playing ?

Yea I understand. Samsung must have some weird thing that disables system brightness control when an app hooks into it

hi folks,
I just got an n8010 and I like it alot. only thing thats bothering me is the display brightness during video playback. for normal use its fine and I set it to about 4o%, but for video playback even when set max brightness its still not bright enough. have tried all the usual players. is there a video player that can increase brightness? or a different rom that gives higher maximum brightess? I also have an acer aspire one 725 netbook, and its screen brightness is much better for video playback.
thanks,
gary.
I have the same issue.

its weird. the tablet is capable of being uber bright, yet for video not bright enough. its a shme, its the only thing I dont like about this tablet. thinking of trying a tf700t instead.
Have you made sure that power saving mode is off? It limits screen brightness, and I would guess it tries to do this especially if you are doing something that keeps the screen on for a long time, like watching a video. Also, you should check under the display settings, since there is a setting that tries to optimize the colors for different use cases. It's called screen mode. play with those settings a bit and see if your experience improves any. Finally, make sure auto brightness is off, and then you can manually put the brightness all the way up using the slider in the status bar.
Hope I helped you.
Tried all the options. It has an outdoor mode which is brighter but seems to really wash out the color. Max brightness is a good start as auto bright is never enough to watch something in thus tablet. I'm hoping to find a way to increase the brightness even more tho.

Try using MX Player and slide your finger up at the left edge of the screen while playing. This player's screen brightness is independent to system brightness, and on my device its max brightness seems even brighter.
How do I prevent the camera app from making the screen full brightness? I can't find a setting for it anywhere. Thanks..
Turn off auto brightness.

Eh. Not a great solution since that affects the entire phone experience. I don't want to manually adjust my phone brightness every time I go from indoors to out.
Any apps that can auto disable auto brightness when certain apps open? Maybe Tasker?
I made a simple auto brightness toggle in Tasker when camera app opens and added an exit task. Works OK when indoors, but sometimes you want auto brightness such as if you're outside. Not sure the best way around this.

Maybe edit your task to add a wifi variable? Like if you're not connected to wifi enable the rule, ie you're outside (usually) when not on wifi. And when you are on wifi inside don't trigger the rule, leaving you to adjust manually if desired.

Nice idea! I'll try that. I'll also try a brightness variable -- like if the brightness is above a certain value already, don't disable auto brightness.

Cool let us know if it works. Are you doing this with root or not? The reason I ask is I bought tasker last year but haven't rooted my S7, not sure if you can control certain things without root.

No root (for now). Enjoying Samsung Pay too much You can control a lot of stuff with Tasker without root -- almost anything you can already control in the settings app.

So far so good. Added a condition:
If brightness is < 180 toggle auto brightness
I just received my mix2s last weekend, and I have been using it for several days.
But through these days, I find it that when you turned off the automatic brightness, and the phone is displaying some dark or black contents, the brightness will get lower by itself, but when you turn to some colorful or brighter contents, the btightness will get back to normal itself.
so I'm wondering is there anyone got the same problem like me? and how can I turn it off? I mean, just don't turn down the brightness itself when showing dark contents.
Just checked it on my phone and you are right, screen becomes darker when you display dark content. Also with auto brightness disabled. Maybe it has something to do with the automatic contrast settings
Edit: I was right, if you disable automatic contrast the brightness stays like you set it

can you tell me where is the "automatic contrast" settings? seems that miui just deleted it
It seems to be a problem since the last mix 2. you can try search on google and on this forum.
There are few fixes you can do, just go over the search. I didn't do it myself because I just manually adjust the brightness myself. It is pretty annoying though.

thank you, it works. But is there any way to keep brightness stay with automatic contrast enabled? I bought this phone in China, but the screen of Chinese version mix2s seems extremely yellow if I don't enable automatic contrast :crying:

Maybe with a third party app that changes the contrast? You would need root privileges for an app like this I think...

Thank you I could not figure out what was causing this on my phone. When watching Youtube on lowest brightness at night the screen would fluctuate and it drives me crazy. Did not know that had something to do with it but now I know.
This is an old thread, but it's high on Google rankings, so I'm adding to it.
I think my main annoyance with this is the position of the sensor. If I'm typing or scrolling with my thumb, it seems I'm covering the sensor with my hand, so it thinks it's gone dark, so decreases brightness.
Disabling the auto brightness fixed it for me
(Using Resurrection Remix)
Hey guys,
Is it just me or the minimum brightness level on OP6 its too bright for the eyes?
I use night mode ofcourse, but still... I would prefer to reduce the brightness a little more. I'm rooted, do I have any good options?
I use auto brightness, but also find it a little bit too bright. I don't have root access, so I just use a screen filter app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nu.lower.brightness) to reduce it to 60%. It also helps for the battery life
I have the opposite problem, I find the minimum brightness far too dark. There should be a setting to raise / lower minimum brightness to suit individual needs.
Use this app to set screen brightness below minimum: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.haxor&hl=en_US
Even if u use third party app the notification bar is still bright... Is there any way by command prompt

Are you all too bright people rocking 5.1.6? Cause the adaptive brightness is too dim on this phone with 5.1.5, and there doesn't appear to be an update.
Was 5.1.6 pulled because of bugs?

I've used that app for years. But with this phone it disables the filter after a couple of hours. Do you ever face this issue?
Use the app called darker.

Brightness control in Video applications (does not seem to work, 1 or 30 is the same).
I'm testing with nPlayer and MX Player (what I normally use), I'm finding I'm unable to control the brightness from within the video app, while it moves up and down the brightness never changes. One App I'd blame it two, I'm thinking something else is blocking them from adjusting the setting for brightness.
I thought maybe permissions, but that does not seem to be it.
Any idea?

Just tried this on Mx player and you're right ! Very weird. Annoying too . Will look into this.
Noticed on Mx player if you go into settings and have brightness set to minimum it dims to what you set it to but when you go out of settings it defaults to max brightness ! Very weird.
Very annoying, but also glade it is not only me.
