Weird Pixel 3a bootloop issue - Google Pixel 3a Questions & Answers

I've been experiencing a weird issue where my Pixel 3a would get stuck in a boot loop until I force reboot it once or twice, then it would boot up normally. Today, however, I had to force shut it down 5 times until it booted up normally. How would I go about fixing this? I would prefer not to wipe my phone but I'm willing to do so if there is no other solution. My phone is rooted with Magisk installed.

I encountered the same issue, fixed it by using twrp as a custom recovery.

Encountered the same problem again. I reflashed twrp (boot into twrp temporarily and then install twrp from this running instance of twrp) and right after that flashed the magisk26.1.zip from within twrp. Encountered same issue. After boot, I opened magisk as app and reinstalled with the "direct install (recommended)" rebotet, and did the "direct install (recommended)" again. -> This seemded to have fixed it.

Fix bootloop on dirty 8.1 -> 9.0 [Magisk][Stock]

I was stuck with a working(sort of) root after dirty install 8.1->9.0 sideloading official OTA file. I tried to remove the magisk using the official uninstaller. Reinstalled Magisk 16.7 + APK 5.8.3(129) and was slapped with a bootloop.
Used uninstaller again and was able to boot fine, but no root(as expected). Reinstalled magisk and was stuck in a bootloop again.
Fix that worked for me:
1. Sideload latest OTA(9.0). (again)
2. Boot into it.
3. Reboot into TWRP(I load my TWRP using fastboot, not installed to recovery partition)
4. Sideload Magisk 16.7
5. Should work now.
Hopefully it fixes your bootloop.
I've been having a different problem. I'm able to install magisk 16.7 by flashing the patched_boot.img. Everything seems to work fine for a while. But after rebooting the phone a few times it eventually gets into a bootloop. Anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it?

Magisk causes bootloop

Hi! I just updated to 9.5.11 and tried flashing magisk 19.3 however that just causes a bootloop. I was flashing it through TWRP and immidiately when the enter pin-screen shows it says powering off. I then get rebooted into TWRP, when I go in advanced settings and press fix recovery bootloop it starts working again (I can boot and use the phone normally) but still no magisk. Anyone have any idea what I might be doing wrong? Downloaded the magisk file from the app, and tried from the website. Also tried using the all in one tool. Same issue. Appreciate any help.

Try to flash Magisk unninstaller first and only after attempt to reflash Magisk.
Most likely you left some module installed/active before the update that is causing the bootloops

Stuck after TWRP installation

Hi guys,
so since a few days I have a really strange problem. No matter what I do, everytime I flash the TWRP installer after the rom I get stuck in a recovery loop.
I found out that if I do not install TWRP it will boot into the ROMs recovery. If I do a factory reset (erase everything) in there it will boot again just fine into the system.
If I install TWRP afterwards, for example through Magisk it will stay and work without any problem.
I've also tried a restore with the MSMDownloadTool multiple times (which worked without any problem) however after that, again, everytime I want to install a ROM and flash the TWRP installer afterwards
I'm stuck in the recovery.
I've never had this problem before and am at my wits end, because I just can't figure out what is causing this problem.
Did anyone of you also had this problem and found a way to resolve it? Any help would be much appreciated!
Note: I'm using this TWRP (3.3.1-71) -> https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...nt/recovery-unofficial-twrp-recovery-t3931322
Observed same behavior.
ROM: 10.0.1 GM21AA
TWRP: 3.3.1-71 q
Magisk: v20.1
EDIT: seems the problem is related to F2FS, after formatting data back to ext4 my phone booted.

Good to know, however in that case it seems that my problem is unrelated to this, as I have never used F2FS.

Sounds like your using bad command. fastboot boot whatever.img, it's better if after the word boot, drag and drop TWRP.img into command line. Oh, try 3.3.1-70, then upgrade TWRP to 71, I was having the same issue.

Random continuous reboots on Unstable OP6 - HELP!!!

Hi everyone,
I'd really like some help here.
I have an OP6, 8gb/256GB.
My OP6 suddenly started crashing and rebooting randomly after the update to 10.3.1. It seemed fine before. I did a full factory reset and the problem was not resolved.
It is especially bad when i turn on the lockscreen. So i turned it off and did not turn it on again.
The apps that would crash were random including oneplus launcher, google playstore, and other google apps. the issue remains when I do the factory reset and do not install apps. It is a bit more stable when I do not login to a google account. Even the basic set up leads to multiple crashes and reboots.
The problem continues after i have tried all the steps below.
1) msm downloader to downgrade to OOS9. Worked better, with less frequent reboots, but problem continued.
2) I did a remote session with Oneplus, they installed OOS9. After the install, it restarted, got to the start screen and then rebooted. I was able to complete basic set up. but Problem continued with other apps even though I installed them one after the other and did not enter my google account credentials.
3) did another factory reset and upgraded to 10.3.2. appeared stable but restart was also off as it would reboot every 2 steps in the process. Problem continued
4) I unlocked bootloader, rooted the phone and tried a few roms. With OOS 9 fFastboot, all roms failed to start and put the phone in crashdump mode. I installed the roms using instructions on each rom page. basically, flash the oos, twice, flash twrp, go to recovery, flash rom, flash twrp, go to recovery, flash gapps, flash twrp and then reboot system. When installation failed or rom did not work properly, i would reinstall the fastboot file and then start over.
5) I installed the fastboot 10.3.2 on both slots (tested by booting it from a and then from b). I used twrp 3...18. and flashed pixel rom, bliss rom, lineage os, illusion rom. Lineage and bliss were most stable with little rebooting but the problem still occurs.
6) As of now, I upgraded to the 10.3.2 OOS using the fastboot file. I flashed it twice for good measure. I was able to install my apps and stuff using google setup. But phone is flickering randomly and problem has not been resolved.
I'd appreciate any help to get this good looking phone back to work!
Ur problem is you don't want to format data when switching ROMs (at least not all ROMs) it's safer to just wipe data instead.
Flash OOS
Flash TWRP
Reboot recovery
Flash OOS
Flash TWRP
Reboot system
Complete initial setup
Reboot to recovery
Wipe (not format) data
Flash custom ROM (start here for dirty flashing ROM update)
Flash TWRP
Reboot recovery
Flash custom ROM
Flash TWRP
Reboot recovery
Flash Magisk
Reboot system

TWRP crashing, stuck in recovery bootloop

For the last couple years I've been following this process to retain root using the TWRP A/B Retention Script and installing Magisk to the inactive slot after OTA and everything been fine and dandy. However, after the last time I performed this process Magisk would immediately crash when I tried to launch its app. Upon investigating I noticed that the file it downloaded for flashing was suspiciously small, so I suspect it flashed a corrupted file. I had already successfully rebooted my phone several times after the OTA, so I figured it was just Magisk that got corrupted and TWRP must be fine. I recently tried to reboot into recovery and discovered that TWRP is broken too. My phone briefly flashes the TWRP logo before the screen goes black and it tries to reboot into recovery again.
I've been able to get into fastboot by simultaneously holding down the power button and both volume buttons. However, none of the options in fastboot actually get my anywhere. Choosing start, recovery mode, or power off just get me back into the TWRP bootloop, and restart bootloader obviously just keeps me in fastboot.
I assume I need to reflash TWRP and Magisk, but I'm not sure how to go about that. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks.
This is how I proceeded:
Downloaded the latest TWRP image (twrp-3.6.2_11-0-guacamole.img) from here: https://dl.twrp.me/guacamole/
Verified the md5sum to ensure the download wasn't corrupted.
fastboot boot twrp-3.6.2_11-0-guacamole.img
In TWRP, Advanced > Flash Current TWRP
Now I have a working recovery, but I still can't boot into my system. When I go to Reboot > System in TWRP it just boots back into recovery.
I enabled MTP in TWRP and copied off all the data I cared about, then used the "Flash Factory Images" option in the TOOL ALL IN ONE to flash 9.5.13-GM21AA-OnePlus7ProOxygen_21.O.16_OTA_016_all_1908281716_b2bb5-FASTBOOT.zip. I tried it without checking the box to erase everything, hoping I could keep my data, but that didn't work. With that box checked though I was able to boot again, but I cannot turn on WiFi for some reason. I'm hoping the OTA will fix that issue. Does anyone know how to get WiFi working again or why it may have stopped working?

Fortunately enough the first OTA did indeed solve the WiFi issue. Now I've applied all of the OTAs and finally have my phone in a proper working state again.
