Tried a Skiva media flow HD-X4 MHL 3.0 to Hdmi cable(am104), with no success. I know the cable works with a Samsung Galaxy S5 just fine, but when I try my Z4, my TV displays a unsupported format. Any Thoughts? Or suggested products that are known tested good. THANKS!
I bought the following a few years ago. It works, although it's no longer available.

Using hdmi needs a power source (micro usb plugged into power source).
This one looks exactly like it.

There are two different MHL types lets say, a 5 pin that works with most devices and a 11 pint on that works with Samsung and a couple other ones.
You need to check on product description which one you got, for Sony should be 5pin.
i was search aswell product from the original sony for mirroring tablet to tv.
so which product do you suggest ?

Here's a link for a MHL cable that I have got and works well with the Z4:
(www).amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0153Y18FI?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00
(sorry I'm not allowed to post a working link yet as I'm new!)
The tablet does receive power when it's plugged into the micro usb plug but it doesn't provide sufficient power to charge the tablet, (the system usually shows a pop-up to tell you) but it does however provide some power which stops the battery running down and gives a bit of extra time running on battery power.
Hope that helps.
To my knowledge you need a 5 pin MHL not probably 11 as your device has. 11 is compatible with Samsung who use 11 pin MHL.
I am also looking for a tested MHL adaptor (HD) if anyone has successfully use one.
Guys as long I know there are following types of MHL cables:
MHL 1.x - 5 pin
MHL 2.x - 11 pin (in samsung S4 and S5)
MHL 3.x - 13 ? pin <--- in Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet
Super MHL - 32-pin (based on usb type C)
If you have MHL 3.x and its still doesn't works:
turn OFF tablet and display (TV or monitor), connect MHL to phone and power adapter, turn on display and select source, turn ON tablet.
If still doesn't works and no even charging icon in tablet probably your cable is not compatible.
Does the charging port also charge the tablet? Or does it only provide power for the hdmi?

Hi all,
I want to use my Note 4 as a PC with connected USB switch and a TV for a monitor.
What I know so far about the MHL cable:
1. It has to be active cable, with a power supply feeding from my 2A phone charger
2. Every article suggests that Note4 has 11 pin USB connector. So I can use it like a PC with such cable.
3. MHL 2.0 can transfer 1080p @ 60fps, Note 4 has MHL 2.0
What do you guys think, what cable you suggest that I should pick?
One would be the following, according to my research:
http://www.amazon.de/CSL-Adapterkab..._UL160_SR160,160_&refRID=1NB4JR4JTSNX4ANBM298
Cheers !
The Note 4 also supports MHL 3.0 which allows power to be drawn from the TV directly. I believe your TV must have a MHL port to utilize this to the fullest. Is this more power than coming from an power outlet? I don't know.

The cable you found should work. You may need a USB hub to use a keyboard and mouse simultaneously. I haven't tried a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse but you might be able to connect 2 devices at the same time?
Since you want to use your note 4 as a computer i recommend you to buy Samsung Smart Dock multimedia hub. I have it and my cracked screen S4 is connected to my TV and i use a wireless keyboard to browse and watch movies from showbox etc... better than any smart tv out there.
if you look on eBay you can get it cheaper, i think i bought mine for $50 almost 2yrs ago. it has 3 usb port for flash drive, keyboard mouse, hdd

My Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (N910H) can use MHL cable (11 pins) without external power on my old Samsung TV that doesn't support MHL natively (I have to use USB charger when I connect my old HTC Sensation on the same TV).
I also use Bluetooth Headset & Gamepad at the same time with no lag while on my Gear VR.
But I've never tried all Bluetooth Mouse, Keyboard, Headset & Gamepad...maybe I will try it tonight
Use you charger only to charge your phone when needed
NOTE:
I use 3 old MHL cable with micro USB 5 pins to 11 pins converter & all working well, without external power source.

Best solution I've found for being able to charge the phone, have USB OTG and MHL out to a TV at the same time is the Samsung Smart Media Dock:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Multimedia-Smart-Galaxy-Series-White/dp/B009KZ3XE6
...they're usually available for ~£20 on ebay. Keyboards/mice etc work fine with it. You have 3x USB ports, HDMI out and stereo headphone out (and I believe the audio over HDMI is capable of 5.1).
The one thing I can't get to work is an Xbox 360 controller (preferred over the PS3 controller I have because I'd rather wired than bluetooth). Works ok with my old S3, but the Note doesn't register it when connected. I don't know if that's a ROM/Kernel issue though, as the S3 ROM/Kernel I use has a module to enable XBox controllers.

As in topic, does asus zenfone 6 have ability to stream out video through usb to hdmi adapter?
After some time android q will come to this device and it will contain native desktop mode so i would like to use it.
I'd like to know the answer as well.
Is it USB 3+ that can do video over type C?
For example One+ 6 has only USB 2.0 over type C, and doesn't support video, while Samsung has USB 3.1 over type C as expected that supports video over type C.
Sure simple type C to HDMI adapter will be needed.
I wasn't able to find any specs for Zen6 type C at all.
any one knows?

According to GSMarena it's 2.0.
I looked at the USB diagrams and it appears that alternate modes over USB-C use the same pins as SuperSpeed meaning that you can't have alternate mode without the other (but not vice versa).
Unless I'm missing something, there shouldn't be any display mode. However I'm not sure if the GSMarena data sheet is accurate.
I currently have sony xperia z3 compact which has usb 2.0 (micro usb, but this doesn't make change IIRC) and also support mhl (see gsmarena https://m.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_z3_compact-6538.php). In my opinion it doesn't depend on version of usb which device is equiped with, at least it 's not the main reason for not supporting mhl. The question is, does mhl work on zenfone 6 with (potentially, because i couldn't find any information on asus website) usb 2.0 type c connector?

Display output via microusb worked differently as the regular port does not have the pins or bandwidth for it. I had an LG G2 which could also output a display signal. I think it's possible to do the same via USB-C but at the same time I think it's simpler to use alternate mode hence the conclusion I came up with. If I have the time I'll go digging around some more later.
I opened a ticket with ASUS support and they state none of the models they currently sell (including Zenfone 6) cand output HDMI over usb-C.
they might be stupid though, because ROG phone does.

I looked at a few things and I think I was correct in my first post. While I think it would be technically possible to implement MHL on USB-C like they did on MicroB (it would just piggyback off the necessary pins like it used to do), it doesn't seem like it would make sense to do that and I can't find an adapter/cable that would work in that scenario so you'd need 3.1 because they all require Alternate Mode support. However Alternate Mode is an optional spec so just because a device supports 3.1 doesn't mean it'll support display functionality.
I should also note that the ROG Phone has USB-C 3.1 according to GSMArena.
Another note is that it appears that MHL officially lists MHL as working on USB-C via Alternate Mode.
Meanwhile ASUS launching an external display that is advertised to support input from a mobile phone, but hey, no their latest flagship. they are so dumb they are launching devices that don't their other devices..
why would anyone cheap on using usb2.0 connector, when internally SD855 supports 3.1 and so does UFS2.1, is beyond me. It must save la 0.something to use 2.0 instead of 3.1

Have you connected it to tv using usb-c/hdmi adaprer or just by usb cable?
No native HDMI output for my device using usb-c to hdmi cable.
However I think the Asus portable monitor thingy they announced at computex actually supports data over usb to transfer the image.. but I am not sure at all.

The OnePlus 6 does support HDMI out with a DisplayLink adapter. It's not great though, as you can't charge it at the same time and it runs the battery down incredibly fast, less than two hours.
Thanks for confirming it, it's a real downer situation though, I was really expecting to have the possibility to output videos through HDMI and potentially do the same with emulators + bluetooth joysticks (since it can handle even gamecube/wii games thanks to the SD855)

IIRC video output via Displaylink adapter works on every device if it can install displaylink app. Displaylink support doesn't depend on mhl support on specific device. I'm just to clarifying for internet strangers.

I'm right there with you buddy. I was so used to MHL that I never questioned whether newer phones would support it or the type-c equivalent. Trying to find a SD855 phone that charges while outputting video is hard enough, let alone one that's rootable with a headphone jack and a non-curved screen (my preference). I'm beginning to think we're going to have to wait until the holiday season when the ROG Phone 2 comes out. In the meantime I'm half-satisfied by using my tablet (shield) hooked to a monitor and keeping my emulator folders synced with my phone with Dropbox/SyncThing.

Nubia red magic 3 is your best best. It doesn't support HDMI output yet but apparently they've said they may support it in a software update. It has USB c 3.1. Also 90hz screen, headphone jack, 5000ma battery, SD 855, it even has a CPU fan lol. It's newly out but I think you can install twrp and root it but customs ROMs might be few if any. It's the closest phone I've found to meeting my needs of 3.5mm, SD 855 and HDMI. Only thing it's missing is expandable really.

Hi, any news? Has anyone bought a displaylink product and used it working with the Zenphone 6?
I got a USB-C hub adapter that has USB 3, SD card readers and HDMI out, but it doesn't seem to work.
No video out.
Are there any settings I need to change to make it work? Any OTG settings or something?
This is the adapter I have.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000544358433.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.1cf54c4dwgapcH
The first one on the left.
Nope, it seems it was either disabled in the kernel or the pins weren't configured to enable DP Alt Mode.
I have usb c with my dell monitor and I can confirm it works fine. It screen mirrors it.
Even the hdr works from plex, emby etc.
My Samsung tab s6 has it disabled, so annoying.
2 conflicting answers, I guess your best bet @samusx is to buy it & try it yourself, good luck!
No issues here
It works for me as well. I connected my Oppo Find X2 with a USB-C hub and then with a regular hdmi cable to a cheap beamer and it worked fine.
Good luck!
[edit] I have a Hyperdrive USB-C connector [/edit]
Works fine here.
i have one. it's work on Android10. but no work on Android11.
I got a USB-c hub including an HDMI out, and it does work.
My X2 Pro is currently on Android 10.
When the update comes out eventually for my phone and I update, I hope it still works.
Hi everyone!
Please, Android 11 is it possible the HDMI output? Oppo find x2
Works on android 11, this is how I play cod mobile using xbox controller. Maybe not all USB standards are the same. Like not all USB-C to 3.5mm jack are the same. Make sure you try more adapters/dongles.

Not sure if it still helps you, but I just tested it after breaking my screen and plugging it into a usb hub with HDMI connected to a monitor. It mirrors the screen just fine.
I know that the one plus 8t has usb c 3.1 port but does it support video out ? And I’m not talking video out with those adapters that will make any phone have a display output , I’m talking about native display out from the phone using either a compliant usb c to usb c to a monitor that supports usb c or with hdmi like Samsung newer smartphones , thanks in advance

I have never owned a usb-c monitor, but my laptop is one of those thin ones that doesn't have many ports. and so a while ago I bought a cheap dongle off of amazon that is basically a usb-c hub with hdmi, usb-a and a charging usb-c passthrough, and this works perfectly with the oneplus 8t. The only issue I have is that the tall screen mirroring onto a 16:9 display means black bars on the top and bottom. My mate also has a direct usb-c to hdmi cable (basically has the dongle components built in to the cable ends), and this works fine too with my 8t, although a dongle is preferred so you can charge at the same time.
As I said, I don't have direct experience with a usb-c monitor, but logic follows that if the monitor supports usb-c video in, and the oneplus 8t supports video out over usb-c, then you should be away.
I believe there's an experimental desktop mode available too - go into developer options, scroll down to the apps subheading (nearly at the bottom) and there should be a Force Desktop Mode toggle. I tinkered once with it, and it reminded me a bit of Samsung's dex, but as I have a real laptop, I use that instead.

Thank you ! Is there a way to remove those black bars by creating a custom aspect ratio or resolution when the phone is rooted ? also what about the resolution , refresh rate and input lag , Does it support at least 1080p 60hz and low enough input lag for gaming ?
