Battery life sucks after update - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Is anybody else experiencing this?
I've recently updated to 10.3.12.0 on Global ROM and all I'm getting is 3 hours SOT. This wasn't the case before.
As the previous versions ran perfectly with over 7-9 hours SOT.
And moreover, mine's a Chinese device. And I had no issues on the Chinese ROM either.
So my question is, if I go back to 10.3.9.0 on the Chinese ROM(latest for Chinese ROM) will my phone brick?
And are there battery issues on the 10.3.9.0 Chinese ROM as well?

GPE 4.4.4 draining battery and with some random reboots

Hi,
I´ve been using GPE 4.4.2 for a while. It worked really good, but when 4.4.4 came out, I wanted to update it.
I did a full wipe and install of 4.4.2 afterwards upgraded to 4.4.4 and then I restores my apps.
I think I´m getting less battery life in 4.4.4 than in 4.4.2.
Also, I got a couple of random reboots during this week.
Nothing huge, but I wanted to know if I´m the only one or if somebody else is facing the same problems.
I´m on stock kernel. Does someone have another kernel and configuration to recommend for GPE? My priority is battery life.
Thanks

I'm satisfied with 4.4.4 but it's true, battery life is less than 4.4.2
Thanks, I returned to 4.4.2
When I tried aerokernel, my phone got stuck, so I decided to go back to 4.4.2
The battery drain is a problem on all 4.4.4 stock ROMs (GPe included). Motorola f'ed something up so the phone is virtually in a continuous wakelock, with the cpu stuck at full clock speed. My new phone came with the 4.4.4 update already installed, battery life is crap compared to my old one that I stubbornly kept on 4.3, which lasted 3 days in standby. The new one with 4.4.4 barely makes it to 6 hours with no use at all.
Might I suggest installing CM when the release M9 - I certainally will when (if) it gets released.
GPS issue draining battery?

I am back on 4.4.2 but I found a problem that I had in 4.4.4 also.
I normally have gps off and I just turn it on when I need to use it.
I´ve found in 4.4.2 with OSA maps and in 4.4.4 with TomTom that after I turn off the GPS, if I check the battery stats, these apps appear to consume a lot of my battery because they kept using the GPS for a lot of hours more.
Does it only happen to me?
Thanks

serious battery drain with screen on

Hi all!
i got a oneplus one since about a week but i'm facing a serious battery drain problem. I bought my phone used with 5 months of life and used only a few times so its conditions are like brand new. When i first got the phone i installed cm12.1 nightlies but two or three days ago i switched to the last version of cm12s. Anyway, in both cases i have the same problem:
When i use the phone with the screen on the battery level lowers so fast, about 1% per 1 minute and half. During sleep instead drain seems to be normal. I don't have so much app installed and i usually take blocked with servicely or greenify the ones with services that i don't use often. Also have auto brightness to medium levels and i do normal use (generally navigation on chrome since this morning, no games at all).
Anyway, plugged off this morning at 9:00, now at 14:00 i have 20% of charge with 1 hour and 35 minutes of SOT.
The old owner told me that he didn't use the phone for about 2 months before selling it, so i'm trying to recalibrate the battery (discharge until it turns off, then charge to 100% with phone turned off), but situation doesn't seems to get better. Do you know if it is a well known problem or it is an hardware fault? Can you help me?
Thank you in advance and sorry if my english is not perfect

Have you tried other custom rom? What about stock ROM? If all ROM gives you similar issues, how about your firmware? Is it up to date? If all this doesn't work, you might have a faulty battery :silly:
Hi Bobbi, thank you for your answer! I tried cm12.1 nightlies for one or two days before and I had similar problems. Isn't the cyanogen 12s actually the stock rom for this phone? And what you mean with updating the firmware? I have downloaded cm12s here in xda, wiped all and then flashed it, isn't in this way all up to date?

CM12s and OxygenOS are both considered the stock ROM of this device (I guess ) but some others (like mine) comes shipped with ColorOS as the stock rom
But nonetheless and that aside, flashing CM12s and updating the firmware is a bit different. Most ROM doesn't pack with firmware except for OxygenOS and CM12.1 nightlies

Screen on time

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Xiaomi Mi 5s before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
With LOS you can get 6-7 SOT, and I consider that very good.
On average I get 5 hour sot. I would give 3/5 for battery.
It's indeed about average for its class. But the quick-charging makes up a for a hell lot.
9 hours so far. Not bad I'd say. I'm using the official AICP ROM, battery set to efficiency, not rooted.

The fingerprint scanner is working fine on aicp bro?
With Miui 9? I can't do better than 3h 30m.
I tried beta, stable, RR. Situation is always the same.
With GSam when i call, sot is increase, but in Miui settings sot are less, why?
(sorry, if you don't understand, i try to write better)
MIUI 9.3 by xiaomi.eu 8.2.1 I get usually 6-7 hours SoT (mixed LTE and WiFi, auto brightness), I think it's pretty good

I am using the same rom. Unfortunately, I only get like 2-3 hours of SoT. Do you do a system reset every time you flash? Cause I've been upgrading the phone for a while now. Seems battery life gets worse and worse.

I did a clean flash 3 weeks ago, first flashed China Dev Fastboot, flashed TWRP, then xiaomi eu, wipe everthing without wiping system partition. After this, every update i clean dalvik and cache, that's all. Maybe you need to do similar procedure in your phone or your battery needs replacement, I reccomend Losoncoer's one, my mum is using their battery in Mi5.
Hello to everyone and i'm sorry for necroposting,
I have a problem with my MI 5s, i took with my rom (MIUI Global 8.4.19) and stock kernel only 2 hours of SoT, do you have some suggest for me for have better performance(no problem to change ROM or Kernel)? (when i bought this phone i had 6/7 hours of SoT) , i have already changed my battery with an original one 2 weeks ago.
Thanks.
Install AEX with the latest China beta firmware, Magisk and the app ForceDoze.
Thanks for reply, but I can't install china stable because in that rom there isn't my language (Italian), any other suggest? Those apps work with global too?

Thanks for suggest, i have istalled all of this, i hope that the battery will last like the first months!
Hi,
After one year of usage my Mi5s gets around 3 hours of SoT. Doesn't matter which ROM I am using (RR, Atomic, Viper, LoS, XiaomiEu) plus latest firmware. I think the battery may be depleted. If this is the case this is kind of sad.
Those of you that are getting more than 5h of SoT: How old is your phone?
Does anyone have any recommendation for a new battery from aliexpress?
Thanks

You can test your battery and find out your real battery capacity with AccuBattery. (Get the free version from Google Play.)
I have 89% capacity (~2850Mah) and I have my phone since September 2017.
On AEX 5.5 rom, I get about 4.5 hours of screen on time.
1 year and a few months later. Now Replaced the Battery.
1 year and a few months later. Now I just replaced the Battery. I replaced it with a new one because battery is depleted Accubattery estimation is 1,880mah from 3,100mah. I get 2hrs-3hrs 30min of Screen on Time with the old battery. I will update this reply once I get what my battery SoT is with the new one. I am using LineageOS nightly(latest).

Battery Drain issue with MI A1

Hi All,
I have been using MI A1 for 4 months. Everything went fine till March Security Patch, once I updated it to April Patch the battery drain issue started. To resolve it I took it to Service centre and after detailed analysis, they came to a conclusion that there is a problem with Battery and they replaced it but it didn't resolve the issue. I requested them to install Nougat as the last measure. With Nougat the issue the battery drain issue was resolved but it created a new problem of charging.
With Oreo 8.0.0:
Charging time: Approx 90 Minutes.
Screen Usage time: 2 hours. "Battery Drains excessively when the phone is at standby.
With Nougat :
Charging time: 6 Hours.
Screen Usage time: 4 Hours.
Can anyone let me know how to resolve the issue?
I have a similar case. I will add my information, perhaps it can help you (or others) towards the solution:
Used the phone on nougat, never updated, for about 6-8 months. Never had a problem, Deep Sleep always worked. Few days ago decided to try other ROMs.
I started with LineageOS 15.1, flashed it cleanly, but noticed that deepsleep was not working. Didn't tried to solve it, just went back to stock, this time I flashed Official Oreo (April Patch) with MiFlashTool.
Still Deep Sleep didn't work. I had no apps installed, and DeepSleep was not working out of the box with a clean flashed Official build.
Using "Kernel Auditor" app or "CPU Spy", I could see that DeepSleep was almost never used.
Using "Wakelock Detector [root]" I noticed that something called "7000000.ssusb" is waking the kernel very frequently, like 3 times per second!
On google, there's a lot of people with this 7000000.ssusb problem keeping the device from deepsleeping, but I couldn't find anyone that fixed it.
Additionally, I've seen a few people complaining about deepsleep/battery issues on latest builds of LineageOS (not many) and on RR (quite a few!).}
Good luck with this problem. It's really annoying ^^
My A1 is working completly fine with latest stock firmware. I use apps like Messenger, Instagram and more and I get more than 6 hours of SoT. No modifications made, no root, no custom ROM - everything stock. Maybe your battery has to calibrate or something? Actually my phone was draining for the first time I got it but after few weeks battery got much better and sometimes I get 7,5 hrs of SoT (depends on usage).

Do you use it in 4G (LTE) or WiFi, or which kind of connection?
suppose you have the mi a1 out of the box untouched and unmodified
and you update to oreo, and you want to go back.
can anyone tell me what are the steps that i need to follow?
download MiFlashTool
download nougot firmware
what settings i need to enter in miflashtool to flash correctly?
that 6hour to charge the battery is very bad
Maybe it's a charger related issue. 1 h 40 mins its normal.

Battery Drain issue with MI A1 | Xiaomi Mi A1
I was thinking of waiting for Official Oreo 8.1 and if still doesn't resolve the issue then I will downgrade to Nougat. If it works fine on Nougat then I will have to fight with Xiaomi to replace my mobile or to provide a permanent solution for it. The main reason to buy MI A1 was having stock Android experience.

I've read that 8.1 will fix some battery issues, so wait and try it out. Another question, what about your apps? Maybe you have a lot of apps running in the background and they might drain your battery.
Regarding the Apps there are no rogue apps. Because when I had Oreo reinstalled again without any apps the issue was still there. The beauty of Oreo is one time I see an app consuming more battery and then I uninstall it. The next time it's a different app. So apps have not made any difference.
My friend had a problem just like you, but after he changed the sim with another one from another network everything returnet to normal.
Try using brevent to standby or force close apps after they're closed using back button. Considerably improves battery life, at least for me.
O god 6hrs of charging time

OOS11 Terrible battery although good on 10

I used OOS 11.0.1.1 for 3 weeks now. Although my phone is 2 years old now, my battery was very good on OOS 10. I literally walked with 30% battery in the day and had no problems. Then i updated to OOS11 11.0.0.2 ~ Performence is good but i had to charge my phone something like 2-3 times a day ;(;(. Now i downgraded back to OOS 10 using the MSM tool.
[Update] I lost Widevine L1 after going from 11.0.1.1. to 10.3.8. It comes back when i upgrade again.
I've got a backup of my persitent partition back from 10 when 11 was not released yet. I thought bringing the phone to the same OS as from where it was extracted and lock it again could fix that. Probably someone knows something about it but i am not going to experiment with that ****.
Wtf is OnePlus doing... Have also a cheap One UI 3.1 tablet and it runs like butter on Android 11. Lol i can even disable fastcharge and limit the battery 85% in the settings and damm the UI is good. Think my next phone will be a Samsung... Sure i miss the root but Oxygen11 ... Wtf. Its not only the battery... I like the OneUI like effects OnePlus has put into it but they are terrible implemented... The animation are literally lagging and dont look near as good and the roms are not near as functional as the ones from Samsung ;(
Anyone had a similiar experience?

Did you tried to factory reset the phone after updating?
I know it is a painfull procedure to set up your device from scratch, but in many cases, this is the best way to solve any update issues.
If the problem persists, then yes it is better to downgrade.
I was in android 10 with my Oneplus 7,and had updated to the beta version of 11,but due to several issues,i downgraded to 10.
Even though my device is almost 2 years old,i never had any excessive battery drain issues, which ever was my android version.
After a few months, when android 11.0.1.1 came out,i tried again.
Its about more than 1 month now,and my phone is working without any issues,BUT,in case that something was about to go wrong, after the update,i tried a cache wipe, not data and cache.
In battery performance though,i must say that i lost about 1 hour SOT,for a full charge comparing to android 10,but it is better in idle times, where i lose about 1% every 3 hours.
Maybe you should give a try to that android version, and now that you know the way how to downgrade, you can do it again.
