OOS11 Terrible battery although good on 10 - OnePlus 7 Questions & Answers

I used OOS 11.0.1.1 for 3 weeks now. Although my phone is 2 years old now, my battery was very good on OOS 10. I literally walked with 30% battery in the day and had no problems. Then i updated to OOS11 11.0.0.2 ~ Performence is good but i had to charge my phone something like 2-3 times a day ;(;(. Now i downgraded back to OOS 10 using the MSM tool.
[Update] I lost Widevine L1 after going from 11.0.1.1. to 10.3.8. It comes back when i upgrade again.
I've got a backup of my persitent partition back from 10 when 11 was not released yet. I thought bringing the phone to the same OS as from where it was extracted and lock it again could fix that. Probably someone knows something about it but i am not going to experiment with that ****.
Wtf is OnePlus doing... Have also a cheap One UI 3.1 tablet and it runs like butter on Android 11. Lol i can even disable fastcharge and limit the battery 85% in the settings and damm the UI is good. Think my next phone will be a Samsung... Sure i miss the root but Oxygen11 ... Wtf. Its not only the battery... I like the OneUI like effects OnePlus has put into it but they are terrible implemented... The animation are literally lagging and dont look near as good and the roms are not near as functional as the ones from Samsung ;(
Anyone had a similiar experience?

Did you tried to factory reset the phone after updating?
I know it is a painfull procedure to set up your device from scratch, but in many cases, this is the best way to solve any update issues.
If the problem persists, then yes it is better to downgrade.
I was in android 10 with my Oneplus 7,and had updated to the beta version of 11,but due to several issues,i downgraded to 10.
Even though my device is almost 2 years old,i never had any excessive battery drain issues, which ever was my android version.
After a few months, when android 11.0.1.1 came out,i tried again.
Its about more than 1 month now,and my phone is working without any issues,BUT,in case that something was about to go wrong, after the update,i tried a cache wipe, not data and cache.
In battery performance though,i must say that i lost about 1 hour SOT,for a full charge comparing to android 10,but it is better in idle times, where i lose about 1% every 3 hours.
Maybe you should give a try to that android version, and now that you know the way how to downgrade, you can do it again.

Anyone else experiencing poor battery?

I bought my Pixel in Nov 2016. Battery lasted on average about 1 day & 10-20 minutes based on my personal usage. In the last few weeks, it barely lasts 24 hours. I haven't added any new apps. My battery usage info doesn't show anything unusual or an app consuming a lot of battery. I downloaded GSam Battery Monitor but that doesn't give details on app usage unless you are rooted which I am not.
Have others also experienced poor battery although the phone is not even a year old?
Any ideas on what it can be? I haven't changed my usage either (I only monitor it on weekdays since that usage is basically the same each day).
Just an example here: took off charger 52 mins ago and it's already at 89%.
Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk
What software are you running? If you don't get the OTA for 8.0, I'd enroll in the Beta. This will prompt you to get the official release at this time. Once that's installed, I'd Factory Reset data and start from scratch.
Alternatively, you can uninstall apps one by one to see if there's an increase in performance/battery life. Also, maybe try wiping cache to see if that helps.
Yes mine went from 5-6 hours SOT to maybe 3 1/2 to 4. Horrible. I've flashed countless factory images. Never abkr to figure it out.
I wouldn't expect it's related to the age of the device necessarily. I only just got my Pixel a few weeks ago and it averages about 4 hours SOT over 24 hours with little left in the tank. It's got a small battery.
Mine is terrible on Oreo
You have to give the software about 2-3 days to learn your usage so that it can set everything for you, if you just installed Android Oreo, then, it's going to be at least a day or two before your battery corrects it self.
I have been on the Oreo dev preview, back to Nougat, now back on Oreo and the battery life just has gotten to be terrible. Factory wipes every time I load a new version on Android.
I get about 1.5 to 2 hrs SoT in a 12 hour period and it just about is dead. I have surrendered to the fact that I will just never had good battery life as long as I own an Android phone and I charge them any chance I get.

Personally I use Wakelock Detector on a rooted phone, but it may be possible to get information without root using ADB.

I am still on Android 7.1.2 running the latest update - NHG47Q (I think this is the latest). I have not tried the Oreo beta but would hope the battery life will improve since that is one of the new features.
I have heard that one should factory reset when going to a major update like 8.0. I just hate to reinstall everything (apps & settings) from scratch. (I am not rooted.)

Shouldn't have to do that... I've never bothered and it's not caused me any issues. I think people who suggest you do that are probably the same ones who suggest you wipe cache and dalvik cache all the time (burn).
The screen takes an awful lot of battery on this device.
My battery life was getting worse, and a factory reset a few days all fixed it.

The only issue with that is reinstalling all apps and settings.
Standby time is immensely better but lost an hour or so in sot

My battery drains really fast after I upgraded to Oreo 8.1. 30 minutes of Youtube used up 20% of my battery. It used to be only 10%.
I am,went from 5.5 on nougat to 4 on Oreo to 5 again on 8.1 dp1 and back to 4 on final.....sot of course. No change in usage
try getting rid of Back up to Google Drive took my SOT from 2hrs to 5 very odd

Significant battery drain with Beta 3. Anyone else seeing this ?

My typical day used to get 35-40 hours of total time (not SOT) on Nougat and if I used airplane mode at night lasted 2 work days most of the time.
with Oreo Beta3, I am getting 15 hours give or take an hour. Anyone else seeing this ? Oreo Beta2 drained faster than 7.1, but by a relatively small amount.

35/40 hours? Not a heavy user I take it? I get a full day comfortably but no more.

no difference for me when switching from beta 2 to beta 3
I'm coming from 7.1.1 and yes, standby battery drain is much worse on OB3. I'm seeing a lot of bluetooth_timer wakelocks as one of the culprits.
It does say right on the download page that you will experience battery drain from Bluetooth
I think the battery drain issue was only with the first Oreo build. I haven't had any issues with mine.
I was on OB1 and after I went to OB2 some thing's didn't seem right so I did a factory reset and now on OB3 it's still great.
I've noticed no difference in battery performance at all. I went from 7.1.1 to OB2 to OB3 now. Device is an unlocked model (factory direct) running on Sprint, no root.

So my usage is pretty heavy, but SOT is low, mostly text/email and quick in/out.
Found the culprit. Had moved from Launcher3 to PixelLauncher, that was the hog .. and it showed up as a system consumption. Moved back to Launcher3 and I am back to OB2 levels of drain.
Forgot to mention that I run the Nova launcher with Google feed add-on and I'm a heavy user also
I'm having also a significant battery drain coming from OB2 to OB3. I haven't installed any new apps. What app would you recommend for looking for the culprit? I see everything normal in the Android settings battery monitor.
Yup, my battery life went to crap from ob2 to ob3. I noticed it immediately, i then did a factory reset which fixed the issue for me.
battery got better for me with each beta. now it's better than nougat for me.
Adb log tends to be pretty useful. I have also run top from the adb shell to get the first hint .. and then strategies vary.
Sometimes, it has happened 3 times already, I plug the phone to charge, the screen will say "charging rapidly", the message light will turn yellow. Come to check on the phone 30 minutes later and the phone will be at the same % that I left it before charging it.
Yes I made sure it was plugged and yes it said "charging rapidly". However once it's charged, the battery life in good.
No charging issues at all.
20 hours on and only down 25%.
Estimates 2 days left.
Not doing anything with the phone. Reading a little news and that's about it.
Waiting for unlock so I can dump Sprint.

Oreo Beta 3. But that shouldn't matter, cause that's a security thing plus essential should have said Sprint users don't sideload and test this for us cause your phone will be borked and we aren't going to do squat for you. Hahahaha.
I'm mad, can ya feel it? Seething in the air.
Yup for me nougat battery is way better than oreo b3..
Omg it's horrible. I am getting 15 hours but 8 of those are in airplane mode wifi only at night and the rest as my second device airplane mode still but wifi and Bluetooth partial times

Battery Drain on Android Pie?

Hi All--
I've been on the Android P Beta for a while.
However, starting with the final beta that was released (and now on the final version of pie) I've been experiencing really quick battery drain.
Tried a total wipe and restore, and the same thing. My wife (also the pixel) isn't having those issues at all.
Thoughts?
(nothing shows up in the battery section)
Yes, I had great battery life. Then once Android Pie was released, jumped on the beta to get 9 sooner. Then got the upgrade from beta to final and battery life is horrible. I did not factory reset, I have battery saver on and it doesn'tseem to matter. If I leave on standby, no issues. If I use the phone, it can bleed as much as 10% per hour! Unacceptable. I may try factory resetting, but idk...
have you allocated sufficient time for app battery optimization?
I also have a pixel, Android 9.0/Pie (bought it brand new three days ago) and think battery is draining very (!) quick.
Yesterday I had roughly 2.5 SOT (with battery saver enabled) and this seems consistent with what I can expect typically. I did factory reset and have tried restricting "background activity" for my frequent apps - seems to make no difference. Obviously it had not time to do full battery optimization yet I guess, but I doubt it would mean a that big difference?
Saw a thread where someone mentioned it seems CPU-freq is high/inc. very rapidly when just tapping the screen (GPU-0%), and I can agree with that although I have not the prev. experience of what to expect.
My previous experience is with Xiaomi mi6/mi5 (lineage 15.1), similar usage would give 2x or 3x SOT (however with some other hw-issues.. ).

Flashed factory image without -w/"wipe". Will that do or should it be "full" factory reset to make sense?
Thank you for your information, I will stay on Oreo.

I don't think it would make a difference. The user data is on a different partition.
You could try flashing the image again, without Magisk or any other additions.
I had used up 50% with only 21 minutes screen on time.
I noticed the app Device Health Services, was constantly active in the background.
I had the same like the OP: everything was fine until the last beta came, and battery is draining faster, phone gets hot from even the smallest usage even in the prod release of android pie.
I was thinking it has something to do with being about 36 degrees (summer time....), but it is the same even in cooler temperature rooms. It's like if the phone is constantly doing something in the background, but only if I use it.
It has been a few days since I upgraded my Pixel 2. Battery life is noticably worse, maybe 20-30% more battery drain in a day than what I saw in Oreo.
I notice the issue as well. I did factory reset after update it's been a week. I was on beta and started noticing battery issues in the first beta and throughout. I decided to install Accubattery to track my battery usage and ended up with a result.
My phone states the battery is in good condition but this app says otherwise. I guess it's time to change the battery along with cracked screen!
i'm curious if my battery is shot as well... Seems like after I purchased my used Pixel.. the battery is not as lasting as I hoped for the smaller pixel phone... I may try one of those battery testing apps to see if it will tell me its current health..
I normally welcome up updates, but this update screwed up my battery life so bad. I mean everything was perfect until the update. Now the battery drains so fast I can watch the percentage count down like a timer and now when the battery gets anywhere from 15-40% the phone will just shut down.
I would like to go back to oreo, but it's such a pain in the ass having to back everything up and flash a ROM considering I haven't done that since before I bought the pixel
I have the same problem. I hope Google can fix it.
Wow, that is not normal. Stock android 9 with root and elemental kernel.... I go back to android 8.1.0 and wait for feature releases
I think I found an Draining App/Setting
I disable the RCS Service on my Phone. It can be found under Messages >> 3 dot Menu >> Settings >> broadcast News. Disable it.
And then Bluetooth and WiFi scan disable.
Same here, crazy idle drain after pie, only 50% deep sleep, tried factory reset and no luck
Try BetterBatteryStats. People in that thread spend their free time analyzing logs to tell you what's eating up all your battery life.

Same problem :crying::crying:

Why did the August update destroy my battery life?

I'm not even kidding. Everything was perfect and I had absolutely no problems until they sent out that update. Now I can watch my battery percentage dropping by the second and my phone will shut off around 30%.
Once again, I had no problems until the August update. I never even rooted this phone, so the last thing I want to do is to figure that out to downgrade to the last version. I will if I have to though
If your phone spontaneously shuts down with the battery at 30%, then I see 2 possibilities:
It's overheating, or
The battery has reached end-of-life
Use an app to determine the remaining capacity of your battery (usually displayed in mAh). The results of such apps should be taken with a grain of salt, but if it says your battery is only at 60 or 70% of original capacity, then it's definitely not normal.

You could try to go to recovery, wipe cache and reboot. Or, if possible, wait for the next security update and see if it gets fixed if you have a spare phone to use. These are the only two opportunities without messing around or loosing data.
A downgrade always needs a full data wipe AFAIK. If you aren't afraid of data loss, you could try a full factory reset and see if the battery drain is gone.
I noticed the same on my Pixel - i don't use it a great deal and was seeing 6 days before it'd drop to 30 to 35% battery level, now i'm seeing 2.5 to 3 days - my usage has not changed
I really don't think it's battery nearing end of life - the phone & battery are just now hitting the 2 yr mark

I don't think it's end of life either. Like I said, everything was great until the update. My GF got the same phone around the same time and I told her not to update. So she's still running the last version and her phone is still perfect.
Is the battery life still abysmal when running in safe mode? if so, it may be a rogue 3rd party app.
my battery life was crap with the kernel and android system after i updated to August as well. I assumed it was a Magisk update or module that was the issue. Once I moved to Android Pie my battery life has returned.

I haven't tried safe mode - my battery was surprising decent under Android 8. the day it updated to Android 9 it went south in a handbasket. And i noticed "battery saver" selection is no longer available
i'm trying to read up and re-learn installing a custom rom, and which rom to choose - i last did a custom rom in 2010 and haven't been near the forums since then, but this issue and the more i learn about google's surveillance collection, i want to go custom
Since you're willing to install a custom ROM, why not try to reinstall the full stock ROM first?
appreciate the suggestion - that's what i originally wanted to do and posted here a few weeks back asking how to revert to android 8 and was told it couldn't be done but i could do a custom rom
and now, with the privacy issues i've been reading about, i think i'd prefer to limit my services as googles' "product". It kind of alarmed me how sensitive the phone's microphone was - i actually wrapped the phone in a heavy towel and left it 5 feet away, and said "OK google" in a normal voice - and bam, it was opened when i unwrapped the phone. There's no reason for the microphone to be that sensitive, imho
but i'm an old fart, and the younger generations don't seem to relish their privacy like i do - that's fine for them, no judgment on my part, i just like my privacy

Pixel 5" Battery's life

I've been using my pixel with everything stock (not bootloader unlocked, android stock, no root) and i was able to get 3(heavy usage)-4 hours of screen, after the june patch im just getting around 2-3:30 hours, what can i do? Ive been reading about to try the Android Q beta 4, should i try to go there for better performance? Or downgrade to May patch? Or maybe should i start doing root, kernels and those things if yes, in your experience, how can i get the best perfomance?

I am getting poor battery after June 2019 update as well.
It's says that Outlook app (from Microsoft) is one of the apps taking up the most battery but I don't think it is.
The playstore app constantly crashes and I think this is the root of the issue.

For my everything was ok, but battery was draining too fast, im on Q4 and its way better
Something change recently and battery life back to normal(not greatest but ok). I think it could be play store/ play services. My playstore app was updated to 15.3.14. I remember it was 15.2.xxx a few days ago.
Yesterday I updated my OG pixel to Android Q (June patch QPP4.190502.019), thinking that the battery would improve, but it has not been like this
In A. Oreo 8.1 the battery had a useful life of approximately 13 - 14 hours
In A. Pie 9.0 it had a useful life of 8 - 9 hours
and Now in A. Q 1.0 it has 7 to 8 hours of useful life.
Does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem?

No way of checking. Usually after 250 cycles the battery will be 10 or 20 % less than when it was new. Just the normal course of daily use.

BY this logic, after 2 years of usage of this phone, its battery life would be terrible.
But mine is decent enough, giving consistently 3.5 hrs screen on time with heavy usage

Nice expectations for Q on this device!
Although I am on June patch, rooted with Magisk 19.3 and using ElementalX kernel and I have around 5h of SOT everyday, even with location and mobile data turned on...
On the other hand, I do use Bluetooth very little and I use PitchBlack substratum theme which certainly helps.
Gaming on this is a rare thing, I only do it at home, on WiFi, streaming from the PC using Parsec (burns 40% of battery in about 30 minutes straight...)

No way of checking. Usually after 250 cycles the battery will be 10 or 20 % less than when it was new. Just the normal course of daily use.

You are WRONG! Modern smartphone batteries start to degrade after 500-600 cycles. If you won't let them down to <25-30% It will last 500-600 cycles. Then it will start to degrade, but not by 10-20% LOL % by %, Slowly. It will last about 800-900 cycles before you will need to replace it to get back good SOT. I still have nexus 4 with battery that i put in it 4 years ago. Until then it had it's original battery. It still works great. Well great for being nexus 4 getting around 2.5-3 SOT every day. But i am not using mobile data and i am not playing heavy games. Light gaming, low brightness, good ROM + Kernel, WiFi ONLY.
Today i got the original Google pixel 5". I will get my hands on it tommorow when i'll take it from office. I hope it's battery will be in good condition. Seller said it's in Good condition overall.
