Is it possible to only root it without losing data? What I want to do is, root, use Titanium to take a backup of all of my apps, then unlock bootloader.

Hello, this is the forum for OP7, not T pro But yeah, when you flash a magisk-patched boot.img, there's no reset of data like the first time when you unlocked the bootloader. But please check the OP7T pro forums!

unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery. it might be possible to make a backup without root, and without unlocking the bootloader with adb(bit not sure).
What Simms said.
Just unlock, flash twrp or whatever...and nandroid.
Then you're covered. It takes 10 minutes to flash stock firmware if you're worried about ota's.
There's no better way to get a complete backup.
Wait, if you unlock the bootloader you'll wipe the device. Try helium backup before you unlock.

Lol. Great point!
I just assumed he wanted a fresh backup of stock. But yeah.....forgot to mention unlocking wipes the SD.

True, however OP wants a backup for warranty purposes which leads me to thinking he wants a system dump.
However, if that's the case it's pointless as it would be rooted. Also all the factory images are officially available from google so it isn't a concern.

You don't need to do that with a Nexus. Google puts out factory images if you ever need to go back to stock.
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#hammerhead
Link to the aforementioned factory images.

as mentioned before, you must flash a custom recovery for a "nandroid backup".
yes, you can backup apps and their data and sdcard with adb commands, no need for rooting or unlocking bootloader...
follow this.
Thank you guys your comments helped me much :good:
I want to root the Honor 8 for some apps such adaway etc.
For this, i need to unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP and then supersu2.X.zip. Thats clear and i understand.
But after rooting the phone, can we relock the phone to get rid of the warning message while booting up?
Anyone knows? Is there anyway?

Yes you can, with dload method, by flashing roolbavk and after the entire firmware
Just reflash the whole firmware and you're all set

i think i couldnt explain what i wanted to say.
I am now on EMUI 4.1 , model: frd-l19 and i want to ROOT it. For doing this, i need to unlock to bootloader and flash TWRP etc.
My question is, after ROOTING the phone, i want ROOT to stay in the phone but relock the bootloader via adb commands or another way, so i wont be seeing that first message in the boot. So basicly i want a rooted phone with locked bootloader. Is this possible? If i flash the whole firmare after root, wont the root be gone?
Thanks in advance

Hello, I have an OP6 and I unlocked the bootloader and installed Magisk to mess around but I really don't need those things and would much rather have Widevine L1.
I will uninstall Magisk and restore the original boot image, can I relock the bootloader then without a data wipe and continue using it?
Thanks.

If you relock the bootloader data & internal storage wil be wiped
Please give Feedback if you receive L1 again after going back full stock.

I have not done it yet but someone from the OnePlus team has already said you'll get WideVine L1 again if you relock.

You get it from the official OOS.zip. Use the payload dumper to extract it.

There is no working TWRP for OOS 11, so you can flash this via fastboot.
I was looking into porting TWRP for OOS 11, but when I dump a list of partitions on my device there is no recovery partition at all.
It looks like OnePlus A/B devices have recovery within the boot image, so that makes things a little more complicated than I can handle myself.

Not unless you have to unlock your bootloader first, then yes. It'll wipe your phone. If your bootloader is already unlock, no it won't wipe anything.

One plus switch only backup the apps not their data, permission etc. Not sure of contacts and sms.
I would suggest backing up all your data,on a pc and go from there. Once you are rooted , backing up data and restore is easy.

No. The only way you can relock your bootloader without bricking your device is to be completely stock before relocking.
