Fingerprint scanner in combination with flip case - Motorola One Vision Questions & Answers

I use a flip case with my One Vision. When in car holder and also holding in hand, the case is flipped open and the front part covers then the back of the phone. While doing that it seems to trigger the finger print scanner and gives a little haptic feedback. Any suggestions how to prevent or disable?

notepro sleeps intermittently and then buttons are disabled

hi guys,
not sure if you're facing this issue.
i recently bought a protective cover, and after fixing it, noticed that the device is behaving odly.
it sleeps intermittently during use (as if you pressed the on/off button) and when you press on/off to turn it back, the home button and capacitive buttons are not functional. Back, home, and the task buttons can't work... after a few minutes of on/off, then it's ok.
however, when i take it out of the protective cover, it doesn't happen.
any of you have that problem?
Thanks.
Regards,
Liang
Yeah, I've experienced this problem too. I have a case that can flip the orientation of the screen. It seems that if I flip the tablet around the capacitive buttons come back. Very strange problem. I hope they can fix it in an update.

Hopefully the sensitivity of the magnetic sensor that controls smart cover functionality can be reduced via a software update. Until then being cognizant of it and realizing what orientation we have to keep our cover flaps away from to keep from triggering the screen off feature is all we can do.
Some cases have weaker magnets than others.

hi,
the cover i have does not have magnets.
where exactly the sensor that tirggers the sleep?
thanks.
gnilow
The sensor is approximately 1.75 inches to the right of the G in the Samsung Logo and 1.5 inches from the top edge of the tablet.
Have you run a paper clip along all surfaces of the case/cover to determine for sure that there are no magnets embedded within either side of it? Magnets used for the on/off functionality in covers are thin and hidden inside the cardboard that is within the fabric/leather linings.

thanks... but what exactly am i looking at? or is it internal?
you reckon that it's the magnet that's causing this? funny, it was a cheap case, will run through a clip along the surface and check it out.
thanks
The sensor is internal. If you pass a magnet over that spot it will toggle the tablet screen on and off.

S5 Leather Case Auto Wake/Sleep Function Not Working with Wireless Charging System

I've just installed a third party Wireless Charging system into my S5. Works fine with both my usual cases. When I put the phone into my Samsung leather flip case, the auto wake/sleep function, where the screen goes black when the case is closed and wakes up when the case is opened, does not work. If I remove the thin charging receiver "card" from the battery and re-assemble the case, the auto sleep/wake function works perfectly.
Seems that something about the presence of the thin receiver coil card makes the function unusable. Magnetic interference between the coil and the small magnet in the case that helps the phone know when the case is closed, perhaps? Is this a known issue, any chance someone has a solution?
Thanks
AFAIK, you need to get receiver with 3 pins. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2778926
I woule like to know how the sleep function works when you close the case? Is there a magnet on the flip case or a connection pin on the back piece?

The magnet is on the flip side of the cover near the bottom, and rely on the chipset situated on the cover.
just run a magnet on the cover and you will find the magnet.
Thanks

Ok. Thanks. This means, I will not be able to modify a 3rd party flip case to acheive screen on/off function.

Case blocking fingerprint sensor solution

After I have read the complaint about fingerprint sensor problem with plastic case. I figured out the case blocks out the conduction between hand and the metal sides.
Solution: make a conductor on the case with the following method
a. Aluminum foil
b. Metal tape
c. Conductor wire from cable
d. PCB silver paint
The best location to apply is by the bottom-right of the screen.
Pictures?

You could also carve/cut out the bottom lower edges on either side, so you hand can make contact with the sides.
Spigen tweeted that LG in Korea already has a software fix, just depends on when it will be released in the US.....
I'm not getting any fingerprint sensor issue at all with my ringke fusion case on my device. I tap the sensor quickly after turning on the device and it unlocks every time. Where is this fingerprint sensor not reacting to a touch? I can't reproduce it.
I noticed that placing a finger on the screen before attempting to use the fingerprint scanner helps with detection. It's not the best solution but it's been working well for me so far.

Holy carp, that worked 10 out of 10 times. Brilliant.

Wow, good find. Mine was in a Incipio case and now in a otterbox case. Both have the issue with the finger print sensor. Your trick on placing a finger on the screen first works every time for me.
I am on T-Mobile so hopefully we get the software fix soon.
Thanks

Nokia 5 flip case that works with hall sensor

The other thread seems be more about non-flip cases.
Has anybody succeeded in finding a flip case that uses the hall sensor. I am talking about cases that typically have a small round magnet somewhere that activate the hall sensor. This turns on and turns off the display automatically (on flip open/close).
I bought one off amazon: https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B074M9RHZV/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The case is OK. But, it does not trigger the hall sensor.
I tried taking a small magnet near the phone, around the bezel. No reaction from the phone. How is the hall sensor on this phone supposed to work ? Asus phones dont need any special activation for this. Samsung needed their special cover that has a chip (galaxy S5). Is something else needed to turn on the hall sensor ?
I emailed HMD global support and got the following link: https://www.nokia.com/en_in/phones/nokia-slim-flip-cover?selectedDevice=
A flip case is listed here for Nokia 5. Has anyone tried it/has any experience with this ?
Thanks.
Answering my own question. I could not find out an accessory that supports the hall sensor. But, did manage to find out where the hall sensor is!
The hall sensor is somewhere near the middle of the screen. On your lock screen, it is around the place that displaces the day of the week (Monday, etc). Strange place to have a hall sensor. But it works! Just try taking a magnet near this spot.
I guess, now I have to find a flat sticky magnet to stick on my flip cover
So, did you found some nice magnet? I have original Nokia slim flip case which doesnt have the magnet, i tried what you said and it works with normal magnet, but it it is too thick. It doesnt work with fridger stickers.
I also have slim neomdyum magnet, but i am affraid to try it.

I think the neomdymium magnet should be OK. I know that my previous asus's filp cover had a small (1/2 to 3/4 cm dia) neomdymium magnet. I would be more worried about the magnet hitting the screen when you close (not the power of the magnet itself). I also checked that a simple stick-on magnetic strip does _not_ work.
I made it work nicely! found a great thin magnet in notebook HDD, which o broke in half (about .2cm long and wide now) and then inserted it with ducktape in top of card pocket. Working flawlessly!
Edit: Just compass seems messed when magnet is near.
Ah, I was expecting it to be near the edge somewhere. I'll give this a go as I have a cheap flip case on mine. Does the magnet need to be quite strong? I have some sticky sheet magnets, so I'll maybe try one of them and see what happens.
Magnetic Tape - rather those which can be used to hang metallic tools on a wall than audiotape!! - works also perfectly: no worries about scratching the screen. Can easily be cut to proper size and maybe inserted seamlessly into any flip cover. Search for "magnetic tape roll"

Magnetic sensor for screen on/off - on the ‘wrong’ side?

Is it correct that the magnetic sensor (used for turning the screen on/off when closing a case lid) is on the left side of the U12+ - opposite to the side that every case you can buy closes on?
I have a couple of different cases for the U12+, both of which fold open to form a stand. However, I found that I can’t use them as a stand, because doing so puts the magnet in close proximity to the left side of the phone and turns my screen off every time. This also means that if I wanted to - no case I can find would be able able to turn the screen off when closing the lid.
Additionally, because both of the cases I have fold open from half way round the back, I tend to let the back portion of the case feed through my fingers when holding the phone in landscape mode (essentially, I use the case as a holding support). This method of holding a phone has never been a problem before, but with the U12+ - it means that the case lid is hanging down behind the left side of the phone and frequently turns the screen off when I don’t want it to.
Any feedback or thoughts would be welcomed.
Craig.
Can anybody confirm or refute my observations? I’d really like to figure out if I’m the only one who has experienced this. Thanks for your help.
This is correct. The magnetic sensor of the U12+ is situated on the bottom left corner, exactly where it was on the HTC 10 as well. You can also see its position on the HTC Diagnostics hidden menu, under the Hall Sensor test
Thank you
