Which app do you advise ? The Samsung integrated in the Social Hub or the official one from the market ?
I come from a TP where I really liked HTC's integration of facebook in Sense. Not too invasive and living quite well with my exchange account
Right now my contacts in my outlook (2011) on my PC are linked with their facebook profile, and so are they in Sense. With my Tab I worry a little bit about putting a mess in a system that has found its balance
Any risk to duplicate contacts if I use the Samsubg app ? Or the Android app ? Will they merge properly with my exchnage contacts ? Stay aside ?
I just dont wnat to make the step to find out after I messed up my contact list (More than 1200 people so clenaing that up would take me a few days....)
Hi I use Facebook from the market and also use one called boo

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
The built-in one is pretty much for synching only, any actual facebook viewing would need to be done via the browser.
I switched from the built-in SNS client to the official Facebook client and didn't experience any problems.

I haven't installed anything yet Not tryig to fix anything just trying to be sure what I'll do wont create troubles to my contact list
The built-in app is just meant to sync your existing contacts on the phone and match them with facebook friends ? Or it adds all the facebook friends ?
The official app doesnt do this ?
Don't get the account permissions confused if you install the market app. Its annoying to find you gave the stock app permissions that arent on the market app.

Both versions sync contact pictures etc. The official app gives you the option to sync pictures+status updates with all friends, just those with existing contact entries, or none at all.

Anyone ? Maybe I am making too much fuss about this but I dont wnat to mes up my exchange contact list...
Not 100% sure about this, but I don't think it will mess up any of your existing contacts.
When logging in using the official Facebook app, it will create a sort of 'profile' for all existing contacts -- it won't merge info with the actual contact. You'll see this when you edit a contact, there will be 2 (or more) tabs when editing the contact.
It's like a 'Metacontact' in Trillian wherein it's only a merged 'View' of a contact, but in reality the data is in separate 'profiles'. The Facebook tab is uneditable and will only display info.
The only problem I have so far is that when creating a new SMS, it will display -ALL- contact numbers and e-mail address of contacts, even if the number is exactly the same:
i.e. I have a contact named Bob Smith in my Google, Exchange and Facebook accounts, and they are merged as one account. In the Dialer, all the info is merged into one contact when displaying, but when editing, they are editable in 3 separate tabs.
However when I create an SMS and scroll to find Bob Smith, it displays all contact infos of Bob Smith, even duplicate ones, like if I have his number +123456789 on Google and Exchange and Facebook, it displays 3 same numbers when selecting a recipient.
Edit:
Also, when you sign out or remove the Facebook app, it will delete the Facebook 'profile' of the contact on your contacts list, maintaining the state of the previous contact before you logged in / installed Facebook.
Thanks a lot, that's good to know
I already saw the mess it was having google contacts and exchnage contacts (I usually maintain both... for 1200 contacts!) The worst is for contacts for which I entered only the first name... they happen to be all merged together (Well done samsung... They could have defined a merge key a bit larger than just the name........)
What about when you use the Samsung app ?? Someone knows ?
My technophobe, not-very-young parents just bought two HTC Desire S handsets as I drag them into the smartphone age.
I'm going to install CyanogenMod 7, firstly because it's what I run on my Desire HD, and secondly because I think it will be clearer and easier for them to get to grips with than Sense. If you feel I'm wrong, please speak now.
They currently have a single Google account which they use on their PC for mail, calendar, and Picasa. (They do most things together.)
Would it be an intrinsically bad idea to let them both use the existing shared account on their new phones? the only obvious downer I can see is that if one of them reads a new email, the other will see it as read in the list but they tell me they can live with that.
The alternative is to set up two new accounts and:
1) Set the old email account to forward new mails to the two new accounts.
2) Perhaps set the new accounts to Cc each other whenever mail is sent.
It feels clunky though. Any opinions on whether they shoul both use the single shared account for all, or just for some services e.g. calendar?
I'm in search of an app that will batch merge all of my duplicate contacts instead of one by one. I've changed roms a few times..on icecoldsandwich now, and every time I've resync'd fb and Google contacts along with reinstalling my vcard... so I'm stuck with 4 & 5 of the same contacts same name and number...its quite annoying. GoContacts has a merge feature I've found but not a batch operation..I'd have to click two buttons 530 times..not appealing. Any info on a solution/app would be awesome.

Your best bet would be to go to contact setting and choose who you want your contacts to be displayed from. By default on ice cold all contacts will be displayed whether from facebook or gmail. I dont display any from vcard and I use fsync from market to link gmail contacts to facebook contacts. Give that a shot its free from play store then just set to display gmail contacts go to customize and make sure all boxes are checked.
You can do that in gmail as well. I think it works better than any other commercial software out there.
Hey @ all,
hopefully someone can tell me how the default calender can be defined?
I got the last OTA update (TMO branded device (rooted) with Android 4.1.1 and Build 3.16.111) and i have still the problem to find the option to define the standard calendar for new appointments.
Each time I insert a new appointment the standard calendar is "MyPhonebook" which is an useless TMO app. Each time a have to change it to my Exchange or google account. The last setting is not saved.
Questions:
Where/how can the default account/calendar be defined?
Is there a possibility to remove the account MyPhonebook, which seams to be a system app?
many thanks
Herge
Can't answer your question directly but I have always used Jorte (free from the Play store) it can import data from google calendar and I like the interface.
Hi all,
I have a tricky question that i am trying to solve for a while...
I have 2 google accounts - one with Hebrew contacts and the other with English ones.
My primary account is with my English contacts - its the default account when I am signing to android. after a while I add my second google account to my android in order to sync my Driva\GMAIL etc...
when I add the second account, suddenly my duplicates contacts in both accounts show the names in Hebrew... why ? can I set primary display ?
I am using Nexus 5 with CM12.1
I think that in Android stock 6 it is working OK ... but I rolled-back to Android 5.1.1 because of some annoying unsolved bugs with Bluetooth...
anyone ?
