I've written an app I currently call "Andramote" to remote control my MediaPortal Home Theatre PC from my Android smartphone. Here's how it works:
- Small, lightweight C# "webserver" sits on your HTPC, runs on startup
- Navigate to the ip/hostname/port of your HTPC with your Android/iPhone
- You are served with an HTML5 app with buttons that are attached to AJAX events that, when sent back to your HTPC, press buttons/etc on your HTPC.
I did this because my remote broke and I needed a solution.
I am considering open-sourcing this and just releasing it out to the community so others can expand on my humble beginning. It should be really easy to extend as it's all C# / JavaScript / HTML.
It is a bit messy and very minimal on functionality right now so I'm wondering how much interest there is as well. This could easily work with WinMo, too, just that WinMo does not have an HTML5 browser so separate markup/etc. would need to be added.
Edit: Apparently there's a very advanced and feature-filled project here on the MP forums:
http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/ipimp-518/
Although I notice it does require Apache as this is just a run-and-go solution (currently a console app). I've messages the creator and am considering abandoning this in favor of his app.
Here's a screenshot from the latest of what I have so far:
what about sitting a server on the HTPC like now, cept have an actual android app
I love XBMC on my home ubuntu pc, and i know it is tegra2 enabled, but anyone know if it will be installable onto the tablet?
If you can get Ubuntu running on it, sure. Otherwise, barring an Android port you can forget about it.
i hope they do get it to work - especially as its working well for ipads, iphone4, etc.
Why?
I guess i just don't really understand the use of xbmc on a tablet. On my htpc sure.
Use Plex.
Stupid character limit.
Xbmc is an awesome platform for video playback, plus cab link library's with a central unit. Would work well with my setup.
ok just read my post and it didnt make sense! (was typing using iphone!)
XBMC is an awesome program for video playback and library. I would want to use it on the tablet for viewing as I can link multiple xbmc librarys to the main central one i use on my htpc (which also acts as a home server using ubuntu). I know that it is running as a upnp server too, but its the library linking that would be great - i watch a lot of tv shows, etc.

I only got the XBMC Remote to work to control my pc and use the DLNA-functionality of XBMC on my PC to have him act as my media server and watch it with upnplayer. XBMC does make a navigationable library as media server where you can select on actor, year, director, title etc. but it is not as fancy with covers and banners as in XBMC.

XBMC should be capable of doing what you want through DLNA. Go into settings and enable UPnP video sharing, then browse to it on your TF, and it should show your entire library across all xbmc devices. And it lists the files in library mode, not file mode, so you get the pretty naming instead of viewing raw folders.
If you mean you want things like posters, metadata, etc then no this is not possible. XBMC is slowly being ported to ARM platforms but it is nowhere near usable except on the Apple TV 2. There is a ton of interest in getting it on ARM, but I haven't seen any work done for Tegra2, so chances are it will never run on our Transformers.

I am integrating an embedded system (atom board) with a Wifi Camera for a DIY security project. The camera is connected to the wifi router and I can verify its IP from within the android app. Camera functions well with an android phone through an android app. Now what I want to do is to be able to receive the video feed on the atom board.
I have tried many OS (Linux Distros, Android-x86). Áll android-x86 versions (version 4-9) hang at the "Android logo". This is most probably due to the onboard graphics card (i.e. Intel SCH controller US15W/US15X). Only Android 4.0 image works however, when I run the App it crashes right when I try to access the camera within the App. Youtube videos don't play smoothly either, they severely lag/stutter to the point of becoming almost frozen. It shows that the driver even in android 4.0 isn't working well.
So, I would like either to have a working version of android-x86 on the system or someway to hack the camera stream by hacking the android app. If I could get the url that the camera App uses to access the camera and the ports at which it connects, I might be able to access the camera from an application in a linux distro.
AirDroid can do remote control of the screen from another Android but doesn't mirror sound. scrcpy is open source so it should be possible to run it from within Android?
Before I start investigating this further, is it possible to remote control one Android device with sound from another?
It's hard to google for this info because I keep finding stuff about casting, screen mirroring and sound only and also for different devices. But I'm interested in Android to Android so I can use my non GApp capable eink only phone to access my GApp phone at home.
