S7: whether or not Marshmallow to Nougat - battery managment - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

I have Samsung Galaxy S7 SM-G930 W8 running Marshmallow.
Is there any reason NOT to update to Nougat?
As far device responsiveness, speed, stability and battery life.
I am not concerned much with security.
If I decide NOT to, what battery management app to install on Marshmallow to improve battery efficiency?

The problem you have as with all devices, apps are updated all the time and updated to run more efficiently on the latest firmware. There is no reason to update to Nougart or Oreo other than your phone will get slower and slower as a result of updated apps which require more resource to run correctly.

Performance boost in latest T-Mo Update

I haven't noticed any battery life problems with the latest OTA update as others have, but it feels like my S6 runs more smoothly than it used to. RAM usage still sits at around 90% though.
Anyone experiencing the same positive change?

Do custom kernels significantly increase battery life?

So I just picked up a pixel 3 and the battery life is fairly mixed but I guess I was spoiled with my previous device (Oneplus 5).
Will installing a custom kernel improve my battery life? I haven't really bothered since my Galaxy S2 which was a shambles.
If so, are there any specific kernels which aim to do this by default?
My opinion is that this is all imaginary.

A custom kernel typically gives you the option to customize the way it behaves. Increased battery life will come at the expense of performance. But even then you won't see a major difference. The biggest battery killer is poor cell service. Also, eliminate apps that run in the background, at least the ones you don't need running all the time. Screen brightness is another large battery user. Google does a pretty good job of optimizing the kernel out of the box.

They used to, quite a bit. But most of that went away with O. There just isn't that much left to optimize anymore. Now they are about extra features.

Galaxy s7 (Exynos Dual sim - 930fd) root and rom recommendation

I switched from a Lenovo z2 plus to a galaxy s7. The switch has been a mixed bag till now.. i enjoy the camera to the core and the amoled screen..wow.. the main thing that is bugging me is the battery life i does not even last a full day and im not even using it heavily. the z2 plus used to give me a 1.5 days life on medium usage(official lineageos 16).
Could someone point me to the best rom out there(i dont mind the version) in terms of battery life.. i dont mind taking a hit on the performance.
I'm happy with the battery life and the overall experience on unofficial LOS16, but you lose all the stock Samsung apps and camera. The thread seems to be a rather mixed bag of issues and bugs, but it's largely been flawless for me.

is there any rom that allows me to keep the camera performance intact but get battery ?
imo the GCam ports quality is on par with stock, but they're rather unstable and tend to freeze and crash.
Otherwise I haven't used any Samsung based ROMs since Nougat, so I can't say myself which are best for battery.
There are many other ROMs to choose from just check the development section of the Samsung S7 thread.

Could someone please point me to a custom kernel for exynos dual sim s7 running on stock oreo..
And also how to install that kernel..

Debloated & Fast & Good Battery Performance Rom

Welcome,
My S7 started being lazy recently. Everything is much slower and the battery performance is tragic. Accu Battery says it's 64% so I think I can still use the actual battery for some time.
But... I'm currently on stock 8.1 but I was wondering if I would install some custom ROM like Lightroom or Lineage OS - would it be a good idea?
The most important would be for me to make my S7 fast and improve the battery performance. Also, the banking app & google pay should work (I will fix this with Magisk I guess).
Any ideas? Is this worth changing?

Question Are you getting better battery life with GOS on or off/disabled?

So I know GOS has been throttling our devices and whatnot, but Samsung has stated it is to maintain the temperature of our device and preserve battery.
Now I personally have it disabled/uninstalled through ADB App Control, and have been getting 8hrs SOT. I disabled it because I play games frequently and like the performance boost. However, I wouldn't mind having it on for all other aspects. Has anyone experienced better battery life with having it ON?
I'm US Unlocked Snapdragon 512gb, did not receive the new GOS update yet, not sure if I would even update because the phone is perfect right now in terms of battery life and playing games at optimal level.
Rule #1 - If a OS load is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission... let it be.
I don't know if I have it enabled or not. How can you know?
I have disabled GOS on my A51 and no battery improvements. It's same as before.
when you enable the labs option in game booster settings then you unlease all the power in gaming(lgos-off)...You will not see any battery differemce in every day use, but better performance and worst battery life in Heavy gaming..
