HavocOS v2.7 22/07/2019
During my spare time doing some experiments with custom ROM building for MI9SE, so decided to share may be it'll be useful for those who like AOSP expirience instead of "polished" MIUI.
Compared to "general GSI" images it feels much better and almost everything works at first glance, but need to test more of course..
BUGS:
There are some for sure, waiting to be discovered..
TODO
Fix SELinux policy. Keep it as "permissive" as for now.
Installation & Requirements
Reqs:
1. Unlocked BL and TWRP installed
2. Running MIUI global or PE (yep, it's all about Treble so we're going to use vendor's blob and firmware)
Installation
1. Boot into twrp, format data, swipe to factory reset, reboot back into twrp
2. flash Havoc-OS-v2.7-20190722-grus-Unofficial.zip
3. Flash gapps & magisk (if needed)
4. Reboot and pray || enjoy !
5. In case of bootloop (for me everything works without this step): flash vbmeta.img with fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img (check GSI topics to obtain vbmeta file)

I have a few questions:
1) format data - do you really mean format data? Do I have to wipe internal storage completely or do you mean "wipe data, cache, dalvik cache"?
2) which ROMs work as base ROM? is Xiaomi.eu beta possible? Or only official global rom?
3) coming from MIUI - will encryption be a problem at any point during installation? I would like to try your rom but I don't really want to risk loosing my internal storage due to encryption problems...

1. Yes, Format the entire data, if you're come from anything besides this ROM itself.
3. Yup, for example; even if flashing back the Global Stable from Xiaomi.eu's ROM, you can't keep your encrypted data too. So, that's why you should format the data
Definitely going to try this as I'm using the GSI and it's working great.
Hope the ANX camera works in this one.
Can i use miui dev to flash this rom?
Btw, can you add dc dimming in this rom?
- Wlan, Mobile Data, NFC : works.
- Camera (normal, wide, front) : works pretty well (I'm using MGC_6.2.030_MI9SE_V4_plus2 right now).
- Fingerprint : works as expected like the GSI's version (not as fast as miui and don't expect for an FOD while screen off or in ambient display).
- Double tap to wake : perfect (yes it is).
Bugs that I know :
- Statusbar is untouchable. (I have to back to the launcher since it has swipe down gesture if I want to saw notification/qs)
- MTP is recognized but I can't open it on my system (Arch Linux x86_64, Thunar FM from xfce4 desktop)
- No Smart Lock or Face Unlock option yet
Status :
- Havoc v2.7 w/ the built-in kernel.
- OpenGapps arm64 9.0 nano (build 20190704)
- Magisk 19.3 stable

Only way to pull down the status bar is from the notch, or changing the "display cutout" to tall display cutout in the developer options.
MTP is working fine in macOS.

Thx for the report!
Trying to figure out wtf is wrong with notifications pulldown menu, currently it can be pulled from the notch area or landscape mode only.
Btw MTP works OK on MacOS as for me.
Please add face unlock. I'm so used to it that I don't use fingerprint anymore.

OMG it works indeed!
Seems I've messed up something while playing with touchscreen fresh firmware and drivers..
Flashing can be considered as a temporary fix at the moment.
Going to use upstream okita in the next build.

Flashing
nAOSProm can be dirty flashed over other AOSP-6.0 based roms (not from CM based). I recommend clean flash if you come from other roms.
Flashing Procedure
Clean flash
Backup everything
Reboot into recovery
Convert data / cache to F2FS
Backup /sdcard - adb pull /sdcard/ sdcard/
Change data to F2FS - in twrp go to Wipe, advanced wipe, select Data,
Repair or Change File System, Change File System, F2FS
Change cache to F2FS - same as for data
restore sdcard data - adb push sdcard /sdcard/
Wipe everything except sdcard
Unmount /system
Flash nAOSProm
Flash gapps - I recommend open gapps
Reboot
Dirty flash
Reboot into recovery
Flash nAOSProm
Flash gapps - I recommend open gapps - nano
Wipe cash & dalvik
Reboot
Upgrading from previous nAOSP versions
This ROM has OTA update feature - it periodically (once a week by default) checks for new versions and offers to download and install them. You can check for new version manually in Settings/About phone/Updates.
Before doing update you should set post update settings - other zip files (gapps, xposed) that should be flashed after rom update. Once you set post update you can use it for future updates, or you can set updated zips before every update. You can also add custom open recovery script commands. If you want to automatically reboot after upgrade you can enter reboot command into Post Update / Aditional script.
When flashing nAOSProm layers are preserved, so you don't need to worry about that upgrading.
You can also manually upgrade nAOSProm in twrp by dirty flashing.

Rom is pretty stable. There are occasional cpu hogs in chrome, but that is happening also in other aosp 6 based roms on nexus 7 and even in stock lolipop.
I didn't experience any random reboot, there are no Google Play Services and Setup Wizard FCs.
Xposed is working fine on it. Layers are working.
This is first release for Nexus 7.
It's unofficial.

Hi,
on my device encrypting the tablet doesn't work. The dialog opens and after confirming the tablet reboots but doesn't start to encrpyt.
I tried with F2FS and also EXT4 as file system.

I didn't test encryption, since this is an old tablet and not very fast, so I believe that encryption will add additional overhead.

Very Stable ROM!
I use the nAOSProm-6.0-tilapia-b03 and my single problem is that mobile internet doesn't work when it's in standby mode for a longer time. i can see the triangle on the top but it's empty so there is no internet. After restarting the Nexus 7 mobile internet works fine again. Is it possible to solve this bug?
EDIT: I forgot to say that when it's in standby mode for a longer time i always active flight mode before to save battery. after wake up the nexus 7 and deactivate flight mode there's the internet problem described above.
How to disable Double Tap to Sleep on the status bar?

I will check mobile internet problem.
There is no option to disable Double Tap to Sleep for now. I will maybe add it in the next build.
where can i get open gapps, please?

I become everytime "Insufficient storage space available in System partition." when trying to install open gapps with TWRP
So, i found that i forgot to mount "system", thats why i got "insufficient space" message
I downloaded OpenGapps arm 6.0 mini, but now i get something like "this gapps version is incompatible with your Android Rom"

I'm using OpenGapps micro 6.0 arm, never had problems with it. Mini is too big for N7, since it has small system partition.
System doesn't need to be mounted, open gapps installation does the mounting.

Are you doing clean flash, with micro open gapps?
Are you flashing anything else except rom and gapps?
Are you using TWRP 3.0.2 ?
You can also try nano or pico open gapps.
Nexus 7 system partition has only 640 MB. After flashing rom and gapps (micro) I have only 22 MB free. So supersu, exposed and layers can use additional space so that you cant install micro open gapps.

Quick question: I see that on the Cyanogen's discussion they propose some performance tricks (journaling off, auto trim everyday and something called ParrotMod): should we take those suggestion or ignore them?
Thanks, will report back in a few days!

Can you paste links with the discussion?
Using a GSI on your shiny new A2 Lite? How have your experiences been? Which GSIs have you been using? Have some GSIs work better than others for the A2 Lite? If so, which?
I want this to be a thread for talking about people's experiences with using Project Treble's Generic System Images in the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite.
Just to tide us over until there are proper, less "generic", ROMs being developed for this phone.
Tried the Pixel Experience 9.0 GSI, worked fine and all, but camera is not working, been wanting to try another one in the next few days.
Using latest PixelExperience P as daily driver, everything works fine (except Wifi-Hotspot). Got a semi-working Gcam port now, stock camera worked though it had few features. Mi a1 camera port magisk module works, too. All in all I have the feeling that our phone is well-suited for GSI flashing. So if you'd like too, go ahead and try some GSIs. Bricking should be rather hard, but in case of bootloop, just flash stock ROM through Xiaomi Flash tool (worked for me).

Battery life is good, with normal usage (some browsing, some gaming and texting, few short calls and some videos) I get through the day with 50% battery left. I am using Googles AI battery optimization as well as Greenify Magisk module. Can't post screen shots from settings because those stats are wrong/not working correctly. I'm using BetterBatteryStats instead, which normally shows me average usage of ranging from 2.5 to 3 % per hour.
Edit: Wifi-hotspot not working seems to be a common bug for all GSIs based on phh's work (so, basically all). Probably, we'll have to wait for a custom ROM specifically made for A2 lite. I hope to see some soon!
My experience with gsi:
I tried the following roms. (now with links)
1) Pixel Experience Oreo: https://download.pixelexperience.org/treble_gsi/
- smooth
- everything works except hotspot
- nice rom but not enough customizations for me
- no rounded corners -> you will loose some info on both sides of statusbar
2) Beno-Rom: https://basketbuild.com/uploads/devs/yshalsager/GSI/Benzo/arm64-ab/benzorom-9-unofficial-20180920-ab-arm64.img.xz
- soo smooth
- everything works incl. hotspot except camera and flashlight -> it´s a pity becouse it´s a great rom!
- rounded corners and notch are recognized -> no lost info anywhere
- some other adjustments for gsi treble
- enough customizations especially for pie
3) Havoc 2.0 Pie: https://sourceforge.net/projects/havoc-os/files/arm64ab/
- booting only with twrp as boot kernel! Everything works except wifi (like on every rom, when booting from twrp)
- laggy (like every rom that boots with twrp as kernel)
-> we need a new twrp! Then we can enjoy havoc.
- tons of customizations, no problem with rounded corners.
4) AEX 5.5 - 5.8: https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=271118&sort_by=date&sort_dir=DESC
- fc ui -> interacting with phone nearly impossible. 2x pwr gesture opens camera and it works.
- Normally my favorite rom, especially becouse it offers rounded corners and the ajustment -> but there´s somthing wrong with that roms
-> it someone gets it running pleas pm me!
5) AEX 6 Pie: https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=271118&sort_by=date&sort_dir=DESC
- Everything works - even hotspot seems to work -> forgot to put in sim, but hotspot started...
- same sources and developer as AEX 5.x but this one works - strange....
- smooth and stable, but nearly no customizations right now
6) RR Oreo: https://sourceforge.net/projects/resurrectionremix-oreo/files/arm64ab/
- everything works
- smooth
- safetynet works after flashing universal safetynet fix
7) CrDroid Oreo: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=5862345805528041177
- smooth and stable
- everything works, but safetynet not fixable -> flashing universal safetynetfix fixes device not certified but but still basic integrity false...
- even though safetynet not working, playstore and everything works normal
- my daily driver right now!
8) Arrow OS Pie: https://sourceforge.net/projects/arrow-os/files/arrow-9.x/GSI/
- everything exact like on Havoc Pie (3) - only less customizations
-> boots only laggy with twrp as kernel

Can someone share the original build.prop? There are entries about the notch and rounded corners. Perhaps some roms will respond to these entries.

I did some testing with build.prop.
-> all data about notch and rounded corners are in the additional.prop
-> in original build.prop system.prop and additional.prop from /vendor are being importet. Importing them in Lineage´s build.prop leads to bootloop...
to roll back to stock is enough flash the stock system.img with fastboot?

Ok, let´s start:
Some words before starting:
RR treble runs perfectly. Good bb, everything works, incl. camera, wifi hotspot, etc.
But: becouse of the rounded corners of the display, some info of the statusbar gets lost - especially if you reduce ui-size -> I´m trying to find a solution!
Omni doen´t have this problems, but it has no gapps included and installing gapps without twrp is a pain in the ass!
-> finally I did it using twrp and after that reflashing stock recovery and format data with stock...
Treble Roms runs smoother and more stable with the july build. If you updated to august stock I would suggest to reflash 9.6.4.0 via miflash!
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/how-to/ota-v9-6-4-0-odlmiff-t3823913
Before starting, you shold root your kernel with this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/how-to/guide-install-magisk-proper-support-ota-t3836952
1.) Download latest AB arm 64 gsi build: https://sourceforge.net/projects/resurrectionremix-oreo/files/arm64ab/system-180818-arm64-ab-gapps-su.img/download I would always use the gappsed version - twrp still not running for daisy...
2.) If you don´t have fastboot and adb download it from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
3.) copy system-180818-arm64-ab-gapps-su.img to adb folder and rename it to system.img
4.a) Windows 7: right klick on white space in your adb-folder: open command prompt here
4.b) Windows 10: open command prompt and navigate to your adb folder
5.) Power off your Smartphone and press pwr and vol- together -> fastboot opens and connect your phone to your pc
6.) type in your command prompt fastboot oem unlock - Important: this will format your SD - All data will be lost If you perform that step! -> Backup before!
7.) Phone will reboot, erase data and boot up. Power off again after boot up. Power + vol- -> fastboot
8.) Type in your command prompt fastboot flash system system.img
Important: If you havn´t rooted your device via magisk before doing this, you have to follow the next steps too! if you are already rooted: fastboot reboot Violla
9.) Don´t reboot stay in fastboot and download a prerooted kernel from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/how-to/guide-install-magisk-proper-support-ota-t3836952, copy the patched kernel into fastboot folder and type: fastboot boot patched_boot.img
10.) Now it boots up and tells you that your data is encrypted and can´t be read. At this point you can put in whatever you want. Then you get the message reset phone! Say yes!
11.) Your phone will boot up and erase data! While it´s doing this, press vol-, then your phone will boot after that into fastboot
12.) fastboot boot patched_boot.img. Now it should boot up normal and after setting up google you should reinstall magisk via magisk manager!
Violla - Now you have RR on your Mi A2 Lite!

Oh sorry, I forgot something. I hope I didn´t brought you into trouble!
To boot into a gsi treble rom, you need a prerooted kernel! https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/how-to/guide-install-magisk-proper-support-ota-t3836952
You shold boot from a patched kernel and install root via magisk as discribed in the link above!
Sorry, I just forgot this point, idk why!
I edited the guide above! Please follow steps 9-12!

Thank U brother for ur kind help. GOD bless u.
Ok, I finally able to flash RR oreo on my A2 lite. Thanks to @Voodoojonny for his time and effort on me to achieve that. Here is my experience on this ROM.
Bootup fine. Everything works so far. Some annoyance though.
1. Rom can't recognise notch. So u will miss some information on status bar and can't customise that much. Because maximum items will coverup by notch.
2. In rom camera quality is very poor and almost no option there. I tried some other cameras from magisk but none is working. (Can anyone suggest me any good camera mod please?)
3. Notification light doesn't work while charging.
4. Can't remove the google widget from home screen which is kinda annoying. (Can anyone suggest me how to get rid off that please?)
5. Headphone not working. Can't recognise any headphone/earphone.
NB: 1. can anyone tell me how to update this rom since I don't have TWRP installed. Should I download the rom zip to pc and flash via fastboot or do I need to do anything more.
2. If I want to check any other GSI roms how is the procedure? Do I need to go back stock rom again and start from beginning or can I just flash via fastboot? Should I need to flash patched boot.img everytime? If that so then which version?
Thanks in advance. Peace.

1. So far no solution! I`ve put the time to the left side of the statusbar so I don´t miss too much!
2. Install magisk module mi a2 camera and give the permissions manually via apps section. You will have a fully working camera with all options - everything is working!
3. I guess that´s not that big problem
4. use another launcher - evie is great!
5. that seems to be the biggest problem!
If there is a newer version of rr you can flash it via fastboot using fastboot flash system [imagename].img Boot.img is always the same. No need to reflash it!
For round corners try:
adb shell settings put secure sysui_rounded_size 26.0
adb shell settings put secure sysui_rounded_content_padding 8.0

Thank you. Will give it a try now.
First attempts without gapps I was unable to boot, always Havoc Logo and back to twrp. Clean flash with your method and with my method.
Both fail (for me), raphael eea.
Then flashed in a row with gapps, booted up fine.
Flashed like always :
AOSP based Rom-Flash with OpenGapps;
1. USB-Debugging, OEM-Unlock and Powermenü in Developer Options.
2. Boot in Recovery and connect Phone with PC.
Safe datas; Systemthings like Sounds etc.., Pictures, Photos, Screenshots etc.
let the connection to PC till after Format Data.
3. Format Data and reboot to Recovery
4. Copy Rom, Gapps and if needed, Vendor-Firmware Paket to the Phone.
5. Disconnect the Phone from PC and wipe cache and dalvik but don't boot.
(6. If needed flash Vendor-Firmware Paket)
7. Flash Rom and Gapps in a row (add more zips) and reboot to OS.
8. Setup System. Set USB-Debugging, OEM-Unlock and Powermenü in Developer Options.
Let rest the Phone for 15 Minutes.
9. Reboot in Recovery, copy Magisk , and the backuped files to phone.
and make a backup z.B. boot.img
10. Flash Magisk and reboot to OS.
With this I wrote ( I'm a little bit older so it is safe) I always go good.
Just installed, seems good, FOD speed and accuracy as miui, awesome!

The problem is of the latest versions of the immesity kernel (in some roms the dtw stops working). I flashed the last supermad kernel and dtw works perfect (If you flash supermad kernel, you need to flash magisk again).

Hi,
FOD is excellent with 11.0.1 indian vendor.
Hi, i've just installed HavocOS 3.5 GSI on my A7 2018 aka A750FN , EVERYTHING WORKS except for:
- Bluetooth in-call audio
(bluetooth works just for music and system audio but not for calls)
- Fingerprint Gestures
(fingerpring scanner works for unlocking but gestures don't)
- No face unlock
(absent in security section)
Steps i used to flash the GSI:
1) Flashing Samsung's Stock firmware(Pie - so i have aonly)
2) Flashing TWRP
3) Format data(so i can mount it)
4) Wipe Dalvik/Cache/Data/System
5) Flash Quantum Stock v4 through TWRP
6) Boot it for the first time
7) Execute a factory reset through TWRP
8) Flash Quantum_Kernel_GSI_v3 through TWRP
9) Flash GSI and Magisk
I've tried both LineageOS v17.1 and HavocOS v3.4(3.5
What can i do to fix these issues?
Thanks!
- Bluetooth in-call audio
(bluetooth works just for music and system audio but not for calls)

Yes, i will make an updated guide showing how to install this GSI with updated Kernel.
Then YES, it's perfect for daily usage, OBVIOUSLY it depends on which GSI you choose and on which kernel you're on!
ATM you can choose between Quantum_Kernel_GSI_v3 and Quantum_quack_v1
to me, the first one goes fine but the second one is mean to be better...

mtp (aka transferring files from phone to pc or vice versa with a cable) will not work with adb (it will freeze phone ) to use mtp disable usb debugging in developer options then once you disable usb debugging click usb settings and choose storage
headphone jack does not work (enable use alternative way to detect headsets in phh settings)
audio volume might be low on some devices install the dsp audio module and
DO NOT let the phone die of battery you will not be able to boot and it will be hard to get back into the system (workaround- in magisk install acca https://github.com/Magisk-Modules-Repo/acc and install this apk after installing https://github.com/MatteCarra/AccA then set profile to default (this will shut down the phone at 5% hence removing the risk of your phone not booting after hitting 0%

Install-
1.Use twrp 3.5.1 (others did not work for me good luck in testing)
2 Unpack the "xz" archive and put the .img file onto the sd card or internal (if you dont have a sd card do step 3 then transfer the img file to your phone)

4. Flash the img file (as system obviously)
5. flash eureka oneui kernel (DONT FLASH THE NON ONEUI ONE ONLY FLASH ONEUI EUREKA KERNEL)
6. flash magisk (it is optional but for best performance you should) (use 21.0 for android 12)

if there is any working gcam mod link it so i can test it
gcam go is way way better than the stock camera with hdr night mode portrait and soon filters

Increase performance without any battery impact or (by feravolt and gloeysik)
Step 1
- Install FDE AI Magisk Module to make it a system app, thus it will work better and removes all kernel locks from OEMs (I'm looking at you, Samsung) https://github.com/feravolt/FDE.AI-docs/releases/download/12.4.1m/FDE.AI-as-system-app.MAGISK.zip
- Update FDE AI to the latest version by downloading the latest APK here, since the fde ai magisk module will only install fde ai 12.4.1, not the latest version: https://github.com/feravolt/FDE.AI-docs/releases
- Move to the bottom of the screen and select AI Chat, then type /advancedai (no space, no uppercase letters). This will going to make the AI more effective, without you having to do anything.
- Go to the settings tab and use the AUTO settings for FDE AI.
